"A bear?" Valo said to himself as he walked through the Royal Capital, his right hand on his chin obviously in heavy thought. He was on another job this time given out by the town itself so any civilian could take the task if they so wanted. But the way Valo thought about it why would anyone be so willing to just outright fight a bear. Now given he knew he and other magic knights could probably take a bear in a fair fight, and depending on the size of the creature it wouldn't be to difficult. But never the less it was a bear, when he was younger and heard a ball warnings of a bear the clear choice would be to run away. But now Valo lived a different life instead of running away from danger it was now his job to run towards it.
Valo walked through the town towards where the bear was seen to be making his home. Valo was wearing grey pants, and brown boots to match. He had two brown belts as well one holding his pants and the other holding his grimoire. This time he was absent of any jewelry or fancy accessories he would normally wear, when getting dressed he decided to leave them off since he was going to encounter a living bear today. And bears didn't care about ripping off your necklace or bracelet. Instead Valo put on more combat oriented gear, he had two black fingerless gloves that matched his black oversized sleeves shirt. He trying out a new green mantis cloak today, one that long enough to reach his knees. He fancied this one much more than his older one, which was short and Valo deemed it as completely hideous. Since Valo was close combat oriented fighter he would probably take off his new cloak to avoid messing it in his fight with the intruder bear.
He made his way to the bears known location a cave that was really close to the capital, Valo was far enough away to get a good look at the bear and the cave that the creature made his home. But the large bear was sleeping and wouldn't really notice Valo studying it from such a distance. But not only was Valo getting a good look at the animal but was awaiting his partner. Someone else had taken up this job and was to accompany him, Valo crouched low and awaited for his partner to join him.
Augustus had decided to take on a mission. It had been awhile since he actually decided on taking on one of the civilian type missives that sometimes came through to the Royal Capital. Certainly, he did not need to take them, since they were more so for the common people who had a knack for combat. They were meant to be jobs that the Magic Knights were wont to do, and therefore passed to the common people for a quick grab of cash. The man could not blame the Magic Knights. After all, his own sister was one of the Vice Captains, and was renowned to be one of the fastest mages within the Clover Kingdom. He knew that the Magic Knights had a lot on their plates, especially with the recent happenings around the Witches’ Forest. He had been informed fairly quickly when everything went south, and had been very concerned for his sister’s well-being. Luckily she did not seem to have been in harm’s way. But ever since then, there had been quite a ruckus within the Magic Knights. The loss of quite a number of them to forces yet unknown, as well as the death of Silas Vermillion had shocked the upper nobility. Since then, there has been quite a stir in the Royal Capital. Augustus Ravencrest knew that to be able to find some semblance of security, of peace, that the Royal Capital must first get their shit together. However, they cannot do that when there was a disturbance of peace, especially one as glaring as a large bear. It was the reason he was here, after all.[break][break]
He had been briefed earlier by the person handing out missions that he would be taking it with a Magic Knight. A curious thing, really. Augustus thought that the Magic Knights had better things to do than to take the missions meant for the common people. Though, most likely, the person who took it might have a reason. Maybe they lived close by and wanted to help their neighbours? That was a possibility. Augustus himself was here because he felt a sense of duty, and had wanted to see what he could do to help out the people of his city. He was still a bit more surprised that the guards around the Royal Capital had not taken on this job for themselves. It seemed right up their alley after all. The protection of the city was supposed to be their call, and a bear no less has endangered the city limits. Then again, when could he ever rely on the city guards for anything. The men in that specific order were fairly weak, and those in the upper echelon only cared about their power within the Royal Court. Their strong members were assigned to the palace, and left the city proper less than properly protected. It was the price to pay for being within the Capital, where every one and any one is out only for themselves and themselves alone. It left a distasteful taste on Augustus’ mouth, and he could only shake his head at the folly. One of these days he will actually make a difference, not within the Royal Court, but rather outside. [break][break]
For now, he would be taking on this bear problem.[break][break]
“What do we have here.” Augustus would whisper to himself. As he made his way towards the forest, outskirts of the town, he found himself looking at bear footprints. He could only recognize them because he had hunted them before with a party of nobles and Magic Knights. It was sometimes a sport, nothing more. But the footprints only confirmed the things and facts that Augustus already knew. They definitely had a problem, and one that needed to be solved before it becomes too out of hand. Fortunately, it seems that his partner was already here. Augustus would slowly make his way towards the man, who seemed to be wearing a green coloured mantle. The man himself was wearing some sort black outfit, complete with fingerless gloves of some sort. He nodded internally. At least the man had some sense dressing in a manner that would not impede his own speed and reaction.[break][break]
Augustus himself was wearing his fairly flexible outfit, silk in everything, and a cloak that could easily be shrugged of if need be. Instead of a Magic Knights squad logo, it was the House Ravencrest’s logo that was sown onto his cloak. A testament to his pride as being a part of his house.[break][break]
“A Green Mantis in the wild,” Augustus would whisper as he knelt down beside the man, who seemed to be watching a cave. “It has been quite a long time since I have seen any of you actually out and about.” There were rumours of a new and upcoming generation of Green Mantis, ready to take out the old and decrepit remains of the previous generation. “But, sir Magic Knight, I am glad none the less for your help in this matter.”[break][break]
Augustus would shift his weight, hand on his sheathed sword, a gift from his sister Lydia Ravencrest. It would prove useful today, he thought. [break][break]
“So, how do you think we should handle this then, sir Magic Knight?” Augustus asked in a low tone. He respected Magic Knights and what they did as a career. Low born, the man might be, he was still strong enough to be chosen as a Magic Knight by the Green Mantises, and deserved a modicum of respect from the general public.
As Valo knelt down awaiting his parter, he heard a whisper on his left side. Valo didn't act surprised while his sensory skills weren't much, he was still able to sense a presence assuming it was going to be the person joining him for this job. Valo turned to look at the young man, blonde hair blue eyes and there was no denying he was some kind of noble. Just looking at him Valo was already annoyed, he never really much cared for nobles, royal families or anything of those sorts. He always found them to be annoying, snobbish, and self centered.
But Artemis did come to mind while she was a noble, that was the first real interaction Valo had when becoming a magic knight. Plus he spent enough time with her to know she wasn't a typical noble like the rest.
Valo himself was technically of noble decent but he could truly care less for looking into it at all. He had no desire for it, the only thing he desired was to be the best if was he was a noble or commoner it didn't matter. Getting a better look at the young man, noticing his silk clothing and very different cloak logo. He figured the logo must have stood for some royal family, but Valo couldn't put his finger as to witch one. He never really took the time to learn all the different houses and their logos. He didn't recognize the logo from any magic knight squad, so he figured this guy was no magic knight.
But he did have to admit the man had a sense of style, Valo being a stylish man himself couldn't deny when he saw something that caught his eye. Valo didn't have anything silk in his closet yet. So upon seeing him with his silk clothing, he made a mental note to pick some up of his own.
Valo heard the young man's comments about Green Mantis. "Yeah? well get used to seeing the symbol more, we plan on changing that outlook." Valo responded taking a bit of pride in being a Green Mantis magic knight. It's been a few weeks now and the role has grown on him, so much so now that he didn't even mind on speaking on behalf of the squad when need be. He was told numerous times that the reputation of Green Mantis in the past was nothing worthy of note, but now that him and other driven members joined they were in a position to change the reputation of Green Mantis for good, and Valo took quite a bit of pride in that.
The blonde man continued mentioning he was glad Valo was here, the only thing Valo thought was he definitely was a noble. He even spoke like one, now he was being all polite cause they were going to working together. He even bothered asking him how he wanted to handle the situation. The whole thing made Valo roll his eyes.
"Look you don't have to call me sir magic knight all the time. Names Valo alright." Valo said a hint of annoyance in his tone of voice. "And I'm not sure." Valo started to answer his question.
He took a brief pause looking forward at the bear and the cave that it made it's home, noticing a small figure in the cave beside the large fearsome. "But I don't think we should kill it. We should try and scare it away at first." Valo said confidently.
From what he saw the bear could have new baby cub, and perhaps the best way to handle this whole situation was to get them back into the large woods.
Augustus was just a little surprised to hear the man speak with such pride. He had seen him before, he was sure of it. Had he been mistaken all this time? Was this man of noble descent? Maybe one of the lesser nobility, he would think. The lesser nobles had slowly been showing their pride and their skill. A lot of the heirs, and even members of the extended family of these lesser nobles have been rising up within the ranks of the Magic Knights. Even some of the common people had shown themselves to be very capable. It was a sight for sore eyes, and Augustus was happy to see the Clover Kingdom slowly rebuilding itself. From the ground up, if they must, the Clover Kingdom would see to its strength being rebuilt. [break][break]
The Green Mantises, however, were another matter. They had been the squad that everyone stayed away from. There was a stigma, after all, and stigmas carried for a very long time. Criminals had been welcomed, reformed of course, and those who have had a juvenile past. They were looking for a new life, for a better life, and Augustus cannot condemn the men and women who wanted something better for themselves. If Augustus was in their position, he would have taken any chances to start over fresh. To prove himself worthy of a better life than just being a punk on the street, or a criminal that had no future for himself. It was an admirable decision, and one that Augustus had supported.[break][break]
But to hear pride for his squad was something else. The Green Mantises that Augustus had seen were few and far between, and most of them kept their heads down. They did their job, did it well enough, and moved on. From what Augustus had gathered, it was because there had been a low morale within the squad itself after the Diamond Wars. Too many lives lost then, and the Captain of the Green Mantises, Barron “Hannibal” Castle, had been one of the few Captains that had come out alive from that fight. And from what he had heard through the rumour mill, the Captain had slowly been going just a little loopy, onto the deep end if the whispers could be believed. A great and very powerful man to have suffered so much, to have lost so many comrades and fellow Captains, it must have been too much of a shock to his system and his psyche. Trauma is what they called it, and Augustus would not have been surprised if the Captain of the Green Mantis was afflicted with it. Only an insane man would not have been jarred by the losses.[break][break]
“Valo, then.” Augustus acquiesced. It seems that his being respectful was grating on the man. Most likely he had interpreted it as Augustus mocking him? Or maybe it was the fact that he was being overly courteous. It had been awhile since he dealt with individuals outside of court and of his household, so he was still adjusting to the norm that was outside of the Royal Capital. The niceties did not seem to translate well, and the Royal Court was a place that was filled with people being too nice to each other. Most of them were just a facade, of course. “Augustus. Augustus Ravencrest.” He would bow slightly. Was that how people outside of court introduced themselves? No matter. “It seems that we are at an impasse then.”[break][break]
Augustus watched the bear. There were two options, of course. One was to kill it, and the other to drive it away. Killing it would have been his solution. After all, it was a beast. Yet, the man had a point. It was a beast, but it was a noble beast. Bears were strong creatures, protective of their own, and very much docile until angered or intimidated. [break][break]
“I suppose we can scare it.” Augustus would nod. He was unsure how they would do it, but he thought they could at least try. He might have hunted animals for sport, but when there was an alternative like this, he would be glad to take it. A life is a life, after all. Unlike mana beasts, who were manifestations of mana corrupted, this was just a bear. A regular bear that probably had come here searching for food.[break][break]
“Though, I am not sure how.” The man sighed, turning towards the Green Mantis mage as he tried to think of a way. “I have golems that I can use to scare the bear, maybe it would be enough to startle it and drive it away. Give it a big ol’ scare of its life.” Augustus shrugged, “But it could fight back. The risk is that when we do something, it could instead turn angry and see red. To be honest, I am not a huge of fan of fighting a bear, especially one that is blinded with rage.” He would shake his head. “I am not sure if you have any spells that could do something of the sort? Scare the bear enough to leave.”[break][break]
It could work, but it was a gamble. “My golems and your spell might be enough, though it will be a coin toss at the end of the day.” The options were laid bare now, and Augustus was unsure of their chances. But, deep down, he was going to try and make this work. Taking a life was something he was not wholly used to, but worst came to worst, he would have to be ready to act.[break][break]
“What do you think? I would say you have more experience than I do with matters like these.” He would have to trust the instinct of this Magic Knight. At the end of the day, Augustus knew he was a civilian, and these kinds of things were best dealt with by professionals. And no matter what anyone says, the Green Mantis were still a Magic Knights squad, and therefore were more than capable in these types of situations.

A confused look was on Valo's face when the young man bowed slightly introducing himself. Augustus Ravencrest, the last name did sound somewhat familiar and had basically confirmed Valo's thoughts thinking this guy had to be some kind of noble. "Why are you-nevermind." Valo said his annoyance on growing a little bit more, he decided to let it go guessing this was the way the nobles liked to greet others.
But Valo came at ease when Augusts sort of agreed to not having to kill the bear. That was something Valo wanted to avoid all together, Valo wasn't much of a fan of taking life especially innocent life. Now of course this bear wasn't the pinnacle of innocence but it didn't do anything out of its own nature. If it attacked it most likely did to protect it's home and child, they were reasons for it. Like a mother protecting her own child from invaders, one would fight back at all costs. Plus it didn't hurt to at least try and scare it away. Valo guessed with his flames that could scare the beast away back into the woods, or it just might make things worse. The only way to know was to try. Valo decided to open his ear to his partner and see if he had any thoughts on the matter.
He mentioned he could use his golems and that might be able to scare it away, his thoughts on the matter were just about the same as Valo's. If they try to scare it away it could just make the bear even more angry and If that happens there's no choice but to fight it. Which oddly Valo didn't mind much, he didn't want to kill it but he could go back home tell his mom he fought a bear and just watch her reaction. It could make for some good laughs with him and the boys back home. There wasn't much to fear in the young mages mind, he fought multiple banshees in an old haunted temple surely a bear should be much easier than that crazy job.
"Golems?..." Valo said with a sudden interest in Augustus's magic. He had heard of golem spells before, one being able to use the element of their magic to create non living creatures. That is what Valo had in his thoughts when hearing about those kind of spells, but he actually hasn't seen it in action yet. He knew Artemis had an arsenal of golem spells that other squadmates made sure to mention it over and over again. But on the missions he went with her, she never used them which sort of disappointed the young wizard. He was so interested in how these spells worked, cause he thought about adding them to his arsenal of spells.
"Well I have a few offensive fire spells, and reinforcement spells right now. We could probably use your golems and I could create a fire. Maybe that would be enough to scare the bear away. I mean if your golems are pretty scary looking, out some fire behind it any sensible animal just might run way for the hills. Hahaha." Valo said with a light laugh at the end. Valo thought about the current plan a little more, and finally just decided on it.
"Well there is only one way to find out, we use your golems and my fire. Hopefully that scares it away in a panic. If not we'll fight it head on. If that comes I know it might sound stupid. But I still don't want to kill it, try if you can to not use your sword for a killing blow. I'll punch the big guy a few times to make it run away. It may not be the perfect plan...but it's a plan that I'm willing to try." Valo said confidently, awaiting for Augustus's response. If he agreed Valo would begin to walk forward towards the cave the bear was in. He would await for Augustus to use his golem spell, before he would use fire spell of his own.
Augustus nodded. At least he was on the same wave length as the young Green Mantis Magic Knight. There was always the possibility of the bear actually turning around and going for their throats. It was a possibility that they needed to consider because Augustus himself was sure that he could not take the bear on his own without taking a few hits in. As for the moment, Augustus knew that his spell repertoire was too limited, and he was severely reliant on his swords for any sort of combat that involved close quarters. Though, truly, he could probably take it down with the help of the Green Mantis mage. His punch was worth quite a bit, and some people have told him that he definitely punched like a low powered spell, and he was proud of that fact. At the end of the day, he truly did not want to hurt the bear more than superficial if he could. It was an animal, not a mana beast, and was here innocently most likely trying to find food to eat or possibly a proper shelter. Maybe it had only accidentally wandered here, and was now unsure how to get back to its proper home. However the case, Augustus knew it needed to leave, and it needed to leave as soon as possible. As much as he loathed to kill the creature, he will do what he must for the protection of the people living in the Royal Capital, and the merchants whose livelihoods might be affected by it. [break][break] “You-” Augustus would start before giving a slight smirk, shaking his, “You are a good person, Valo. Not many would think of sparing the creature’s life, and most would think that killing it would be the best option.” People have said that the Green Mantis Magic Knights had the worst of the worst, yet, this man was turning his assumptions a full one hundred and eighty degrees. The rumours were of course, rumours. Augustus rarely believed anything until he saw it, at least when it comes from word of mouth, especially if it attacks a person or a group’s character. The Green Mantises were one of those, and he was glad that he did not approach the man nor his Magic Knights squad with prejudice. “And yes, I utilize golems in battle. The only spell I can do at the moment, since I am used to fighting with my fists and sword.” He would gesture to the large six foot long sword strapped on his back. It was a gift from his fraternal twin sister, a token for his new direction in life. “They are pretty nifty in certain situations, though to be able to fully utilize them, one must not rely on them solely. I suppose it is why I am used to physical combat. My golems fight beside me, instead of for me.” He would smile now. It was a technique he had started to hone for the past few weeks of training with his instructor. [break][break]
“Your skill set, however, will prove very useful for this.” He would nod, “With your fire, and my golems, we might be able to create a huge commotion that would startle the bear, and make it leave its hiding place, and force it towards a more suitable habitat.” Augustus would unclip the satchel that held his grimoire, before letting it float beside him. A dark aura surrounded his grimoire as it started to be fueled with his mana. “So, shall we?” [break][break]
Valo had started to make his way towards the bear’s lair. It seems that he would be taking the front, and will be using his fire in a more close range manner. Augustus was not sure how the man used his magic, but it certainly took a brave man to be always in the fore front of danger. [break][break]
“No sword it is then.” Augustus whispered to himself, before he started to channel even more mana into his grimoire, as it flipped pages towards his spell. [break][break]
“Minyades, come forth.” [break][break]
The element of Dark was something that was very rare, and something that was seen as akin to gothic in nature. Not evil, but certainly it had its aura of eeriness. Augustus did not put too much stock in other’s opinions on his magic, however, and created his golems as he saw fit. Funnily enough, it had only played into the gothic theme of his element. [break][break]
Three dark element bats came forth, no sound, as per instructed by Augustus through the mana tether that sustained the, The batts would flap their wings softly, and were ordered to float just above Valo. Augustus would wait for the man’s signal to start, and his bats would do it job, scaring the bear with its screeches. Hopefully it would be enough, or else Augustus is going to go home today with bruised knuckles once again. No sword, after all.

When Augustus called Valo a a good person, the young wizard paused for just a moment. It was only a few times when someone referred to Valo as a good person, he didn't hear it that much at all especially growing up. He was always the opposite of that, at least what he was told. He started to think about how his actions as a magic knight so far have been for the good of others. He never really thought much of it till now. He was going on job after job just because he wanted to be better, and prove himself. But he never once thought that his actual actions and decisions on a job had an effect on people. His mindset very much was get a mission, complete the mission get paid and get the stars to prove your reputation. But now it obvious his mindset has changed. "Thank you." was all Valo muttered in response to Augustus's comment.
Valo listened quite closely to Agusutus's slight explanation of his spells, making mental notes of his own. The more this guy spoke about his golems the more Valo was intrigued by it, he was as of now a pure offensive wizard, more or a pure brawler and fighter than an actual wizard. But hearing this golem explanation Valo started to think this was probably just what he was looking for in terms of adding some more versatility to his arsenal. Having another being of sorts not fight for you but fight along side you as Augustus mentioned. Using them to cover a certain weakness, add certain game plan and attack strategies, have another method of attack and perhaps defense as well. Valo even chuckled at the idea of having his own little gang again, this time being obedient golems that would listen to his immediate direction. Just the thought of it was getting the young magic knight excited.
Valo walked forward some more now getting the attention of the large animal. The bear got up on all fours, starting to make it's way out of the cave showing it's massive teeth and claws. As it got closer one could really start to notice the size the of the animal, it's size would intimidate any mere hunter looking for a kill. But Valo wouldn't be shaken, he was determined and he was not going to kill it. Valo took a deep breath, and let it out now focused on the task. He heard Augustus activate his spell and soon after that three bats that looked like they were made of pure darkness. Valo had never seen darkness magic in person before, but he was more shocked that the guy didn't bring some kind angels to his side given he regal like appearance. The blonde haired wizard using darkness magic was an odd combination but somehow it worked Valo guessed.
But now was no time to waste. Valo's grimoire started to glow a bright red and orange, and began to float by his side the pages flipping to spell he actually had not gotten to use yet at least outside of his own personal training. Valo took another deep breath filling his lungs with air, but this time when he breathed out a intense stream of fire would come out lighting the ground in front of him on fire. He made sure the flames would not come in direct contact with the bear, but merely serve as a wall of sorts to stop the bear from moving forward. But it would also be used to frighten the bear, surely any animal of the forrest would be massively afraid of intense fire. When Valo was done breathing out the fire, he shouted towards Augustus. "Now!" hoping the young man would use the bat golem to screech directly at the bear. More than likely this scare tactic would prove enough to scare the bear away.
With the intense flames and three massive bats made of pure darkness. The giant bear would back up back into it's cave, grab its young cub using its mouth. And run off towards the woods, not looking back. Just running and running deeper into the woods, looking to find a new home. Proving their scare tactic plan as a success. As the bear ran off, Valo waved both his arms to his side dispersing the fire on the ground that he created. The look on his face was pleased, not only did they scare the bear away but they didn't even have to come to blows with it and hurt the lost animal.
"And mission accomplished!" Valo said triumphantly.

Augustus would watch the man at work. It would seem that he definitely had underestimated the man and his bravery. Of course, it was always better to underestimate than overestimate. Augustus found himself in a better position when he was less disappointed if his predictions were wrong. After all, better to be prepared for the worst than for the best. Augustus was taught to think like that by one of his many tutors, and it has served him well thus far. [break][break]
He was a fire mage, of all things. Augustus only knew a few fire mages in his lifetime, and most of them had been very famous in their own right. One of the ones that is still very much in his height of fame was the fire mage of the Crimson Lions, Captain Ardere Kasai. Legendary in his own right, Ardere had pushed the limits of fire magic, which had not only shocked some of his peers, but had also made waves throughout the Clover Kingdom. It proved once and for all that element did not make a mage. No matter what element you wielded, you can be as good as the next Captain or Vice Captain of the Magic Knights squads. Augustus was sure that there were those still very prideful of their unique elements, mostly the nobility that seemed to feel like they need to be better than others. Pride was something else entirely, what these nobles had was sheer idiocy, and rampant bigotry. Augustus would have no part in that. He was a prideful man, but only because he had something truly to be proud of. Not his heritage or his bloodline, nor even his surname and family. No, what he was proud of was his ability to be able to get to people when he spoke. He was a rhetorical masterpiece, as one of his colleagues within the Royal Court had told him once before.
[break][break] But here he was now, as Church of Clover Deacon, and doing a simple job with this Green Mantis Magic Knight. [break][break]
Speaking of, Augustus shook his head as the Green Mantis Magic Knight surged forward. Augustus was not a sensory mage, so he could not sense at all what the man was doing, and all he really could see was that his grimoire was now alight with life, and the man seemed to be using a fire spell. From his angle, he could see properly what the spell did, and his golems really did not give him any information since it was just a bit too complex for them to do so. All he knew was that the man had cast a fire spell, and the bear seemed to have been both agitated by it, and had started to try and charge the man. He could not let that happen. After all, Valo had started to warm up to him, and truly, he was not going to have to explain to the Green Mantis Magic Knights squad why one of their members was injured because of his inaction. [break][break]
“Let’s go, Minyades! Scare the bear with your screech!” [break][break]
The bats made of Dark element flapped their wings very hard, throwing a small gust around the bear. Interestingly, the bear itself did not seem to be afraid of the bats, but the fire had started to scare the creature. All Augustus had to do was push the creature to the brink of fear, and it would surely run away. [break][break]
The bats then started to screech at the bear, circling on top of it just out of its reach. The noise, coupled with the slight gusts of wind, as well as the fire, seemed to have been enough. What they had predicted had almost come to pass, where by the bear would actually try to strike back. But, thanking the Four Spirits of their small mercies, Augustus’ bats seemed to have been the breaking point, and he watched as the bear, a mother it seems, go back into its cave. The mother bear grabbed its cub with its jaws, and sprinted away into the deep of the forest. Augustus could only sigh with relief as he slowly made his way to join the Green Mantis mage. “I thought we were going to be goners there.” Augustus smiled his best smile, combing his hair with his fingers, a sign of relief.

Valo took close watch as Augustus commanded to his golems to screech at their bear, it seemed they worked on mental and verbal commands only. Another mental note that Valo made for the future. Augustus started to make his way closer to Valo, since they had just accomplished a rather easy task one couldn't help but feel good about it. He had to admit their introduction was a little shaky, but the blonde haired guy was starting to grow on Valo. He was a little to formal for his liking, but it was obvious the guy wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty if needed be. And Valo could get along with someone like that. He saw Augustus run his fingers through his hair, in a sigh of relief.
"Mmmmmm nah Blondie. I think if we had to, we could have taken it." Valo said to Augustus with the utmost confidence in his voice. While this job was by no means a tough one at all, completing it felt really good. Perhaps because their was no need to kill or even hurt the mother bear and her cub. Most of Valo's jobs so far as a magic knight have been fight first, ask questions later. Valo knew that all to well, most of the time his fists did the talking. But he felt proud completing this task with no need for violence just using your own head, and working together.
His overall experience as a magic knight so far has been a really good one. He met some good people he would now consider partners, friends even mentors. These past few weeks he's been saving lives, beating up bad guys, taking down some goblins, rescuing kittens, fighting wolves, helping an old man gather some wood and so on. The young wizard was truly enjoying it as a magic knight, a lot more than what he would have thought first joining the squad. Now he had actual tangible goals he wanted to reach, of course seeking strength was still at the fore front. But now he wanted be one of the names pushing the Green Mantis fame forward into new heights.
Perhaps his mother would be proud too, he hadn't made the time to go see her since. If he was going to visit his mom he wanted to go back with something to show for it. But Valo had a good assumption that his promotion was coming up soon. Since he took the first job with Artemis, he had been grinding getting gold stars after gold stars for the himself and the squad. At this point he enough stars to ask for a higher title, the only left to do was to go and ask for it. And once he got it he would probably make a quick trip to Kikka and fill his mother in on everything. The old gang too, though they would probably just laugh at him for becoming a softie now.
Valo stretched his arms and legs, and let out a yawn he was just about done for the day. He turned towards Augustus to address him before taking off "Hey blondie those golems you got are pretty cool. You don't mind if take some inspiration from you and make some of my own do ya?" Valo asked placing his hands behind his head, he would wait for a response for a few seconds and then start to walk back into the town. "It won't matter though cause mine are gonna look twice as cool as yours." Valo said jokingly walking off.
“I am very sure that we could have,” Augustus would smirk, “though having been limited without the use of my sword would have been too much.” He shook his head. Of course, his strength would ultimately come from the fact that he used weapons. And of course his physical strength which was something that he would rather not use on a bear. Their claws and their bite were more than a deterrent for Augustus to have a fist fight with a bear. No, he would rather stay away if he could not use any sort of weapon. [break][break]
“To be honest, it seems like you could have taken the bear on your own!” He would smile and give the man a thumbs up, “It seems that the Green Mantis has some Magic Knights that are capable after all. The rumours are certainly very untrue when it comes to your squad.” Augustus was not one for rumours, but he could not help but hear them after all. It was whispered throughout the Royal Capital, and he had filed it away for a later date to check up on. It seems that it was untrue. The Green Mantis were quite capable, especially this new generation. “While the old guard is slowly passing us by, it is time for the next generation to step up, don’t you think?” He would pause, then continue with a small smile, “I’m sure you do the Green Mantis proud.”[break][break]
He would then start walking away, the words spoken to him by the young man would echo in his thoughts. He would then shout back towards the retreating Magic Knight, “Go for it! I’m sure it will definitely twice as cool, though never better than mine!” Augustus laughed out loud at his jest, before walking back to the Royal Capital. He was sure that he definitely made a new acquaintance that day, if not a friendship of sorts.
