“Yummy!” Qiao was squealing in glee as if he was a young school girl. No one would think that the man stuffing his face with cotton candy would be one of the strongest mages in the Coral Peacock squad. This was one of the rare occasions that Qiao was acting younger than his age as he sampled the various products, his cheeks swelling as if he was a chipmunk. He was trying to enjoy himself as much as possible till his assigned assistant showed up. [break][break] The reason why Qiao was present was not to stuff his face. He was here actually to work but wanted to enjoy himself. As a prominent researcher into mana and all the functionalities, he was called when the mana beasts started showing strange behavior. The circus owners could not find any abnormalities and decided to call in for help. Qiao got over to Kikka as soon as he could to accept the mission. Being a noble and a figure to the public he had to be careful of what he ate often. Trips were the few exceptions in which he allowed himself to eat and enjoy himself. As long as no one was around to watch him he knew he would get away with it. [break][break] “Fufufufu” Qiao was not paying attention to his surroundings as he was busy enjoying himself too much. The normally observant guy was acting like a newcomer to the magic knights, if he was being watched he would be unsure of how to face the public. Recently, Qiao has been called bossy and mean by multiple sources. It made him have an air of mystery and adoration. While Qiao may not have been a fan of the rumors it was useful in getting the juniors of his squad to listen to him. Imagine how hard it would be for him to feel respected if the juniors only called him cute. [break][break] After Qiao shoved a chocolate banana down his throat he began to clean himself up. Getting rid of the evidence was important. Qiao viewed his squad as the smartest in Clover, it would not be far fetched for his mates to be able to piece things together if he left chocolate on his face.

“Excuse me! Pardon me!” Ashens says as he’s trying to make his way through the town of Kikka. It was unexpected for him to see this many people in town but considering that the circus was in town it attracted a lot of attention. Only being a newcomer to the Coral Peacock he wanted to see what missions there were but the only thing that came up was assisting on research with a higher rank magic knight in Kikka for the circus. Researching didn’t seem too bad and it peak his interest so volunteered to take it. Being able to see how a higher rank magic knight handles things would be a good experience to learn from and considering the person he’s assisting it with. He heard that he would be assisting a magic knight by the name of Qiáo Shēngxiào which was a difficult name for him to remember but he had to make sure he got it right because of what he heard about him. After volunteering some of the magic knights told him that Qiáo is a bossy and mean Nobel magic knight which made Ashens think that the person arrogant considering his personal past with nobility. Overall he pulled back his dislike of nobels for a bit to be respectful since Qiáo a higher rank than him and is more experienced.
Looking around the circus crowd Ashens tries to look for Qiáo but it’s been almost 2 hours since he arrived and he has no idea how he looks like other than a description that one of the knights told him.
“Find a person with long pink hair... How hard can that be? It would’ve been easier if there was something more to go on with other than the colour of his hair.” Ashens says under his breath as he attracted some attention from his annoyed demeanor. Frustrated as he is, he walks out of the crowd to a booth take a breath.
“Where can he be? He left right away and I never got to meet the guy…” After saying that Ashens calls over a person who’s been working at the front of the booth he stopped at and asked if he saw a magic knight with long pink hair. “Oh, you mean that person?” pointing his finger to a person almost tall as he is with Long Pink hair and a Coral Peacock on his uniform who is wiping his face off from whatever he ate. “Is that him?” Ashens says to himself as he didn’t realize that Qiáo was nearly the same ages as him and that his look is different than he thought but overall that symbol he has on is the Coral Peacocks and that confirms that it’s him.
Looking back at the person at the counter excitedly Ashens shakes the person’s hand and says “Oh my that’s him, thank you so much!” Then he starts walking towards Qiáo. As he’s walking he tried to fix his hair and uniform, with a sigh of relief and nervousness Ashens says “Hello there, I’m assuming you’re Qiáo Shēngxiào. My name is Ashens Gillph and I volunteered to assist you. Sorry I took so long, you left without notice and I had to find you in this huge crowd.” As he puts his hand out to greet him.

Qiao barely managed to get rid of all the evidence of his snacking endeavors when someone spoke to him. He turned around with his innocent business smile in place. As if he was waiting for the person the entire time. [break][break] “Yes it is a pleasure to meet you! I was expecting you the entire time. I am glad that a promising young mage would get assigned to help me with this investigation. It is an inter....” [break][break] An explosion sounded out behind Qiao as the sounds of screaming erupted all around, silencing his speech. Everything inside Qiao was telling himself to check out the disturbance. His curiosity for something new and his duty as a knight practically compelled him to. “Let’s go check it out!” [break][break] In a certain range from the Big Top a fat man with a curly mustache and a giant hat could be seen. “You are the man hired to check out or beasts. You cannot do that now! Someone sabotaged us and the mana beasts are running out of control and trying to attack people. If it is not too much to ask can you take care of the beasts before Kikka becomes their home. I do not want the people to despise our circus.” The man was practically begging with tears in his eyes. [break][break] Qiao understood how the man was feeling. The guy was working hard to make a single Yule. If the situation was too bad the town and even knights would charge him a hefty fine, even if he was not responsible. As a knight already hired it would not be too much to change the monetary reward and service of the mission. Qiao could not bring himself to turn the man down. If he did, sneaking out for snacks would be even harder. [break][break] “We will handle it.” He spoke to the circus owner in a comforting voice. “I hope you don’t mind rookie. Looks like this will not be an easy mission. I hope you are battle ready!” Qiao made his way over to the big top as a large beast was about to swipe at a civilian. A burst of pink wind appeared from his finger tips before hitting the beast to rend it to shreds. “If you cannot fight, try to get any citizens to safety.” Qiao devoted the rest of his attention to the task at hand. He did not bother to hide his mana signature and allowed it to ripple out. It was a desperate ploy but it allowed him to grab the attention of the beasts. Direct combat was not his forte but he could not use his standard style when trying to save lives. Attention away from himself was attention towards the civilians. If any of the mana beasts made a move to start taking out people he would wipe them out first. If he could calm them he would allow for their safe capture. It was a shame that he was not able to use restraint type magic. It would have made the job a lot easier.

Finally being greeted by Qiáo Shēngxiào, Ashens felt satisfied with relief that he didn’t have to run after him but that all changed while Qiáo was explaining what they were going to do. A large explosion suddenly erupted with people looking in all directions for what just happened and as everyone was curious about the noise Qiáo told Ashens “Let’s go check it out!”
“Right!” Ashens quick reply as they dashed off to the direction he thinks that the explosion came from.
As they came to a stop a fat man with a big top hat and a curly mustache as he explains that someone sabotaged the circus in which they made the mana beast go out of control and start attacking anyone who’s in their way. Seeing the man tearing up from the disaster that he never intended to happen Qiáo calmly talked to the man and then looked back at Ashens saying
“I hope you don’t mind rookie. Looks like this will not be an easy mission. I hope you are battle ready!”
“This mission just got a lot more intense than I thought but I am a Magic Knight now so I’ll do my best to protect.” Ashens said confidently, trying to hide his slight insecurity about the situation but as he knew that sooner or later this type of job would be expected… just a tad too soon than he thought. Soon after Qiáo made his way over to a large beast that was about to attack people and with a fick of his finger a burst of pink wind appeared which deflected the large beast. Ashens was astonished from the amount of force that Qiáo had.
Qiáo calls out “If you cannot fight, try to get any citizens to safety.” Hearing the order Ashens sprung to action by taking his grimoire with his quill and called out “Everyone leave this way, It’s the safer way out!” As he announced that people started to make their way to his direction but after a short while 2 of the Shadow Scorpions started to head the same direction. The moment that Ashens saw them from afar he took his quill and swiped with one movement the pages moved on their own “Oh no, you’re not allowed to leave!” While the pages were turned Ink started to pour out onto the ground into a symbol of a wolf, as the pages stopped he called out “Condemned by the Wolf! Take down the Shadow Scorpions!” Instantly multiple wolf heads pop out and with a point of Ashens’s quill towards the Shadow Scorpions they raced and rammed onto the Shadow Scorpions while also biting them as they drain some of their mana. Coming farther behind them are some more mana beasts and as they’re being shocked by the ink wolves on the other 2 Shadow Scorpions Ashens was able to lead the rest of the civilians out of the area while placing a large symbol on the ground then saying the spell “Ancient Ruin Curse!” Which glowed and faded meaning that it was completed but as soon as he finished he saw Qiáo attracting some of the attention and so he ran to him. When he got there he said “I got everyone around the area out and placed a trap at the exit for any mana beasts that try to make it that way. What else should I take down or restrain?”

“That’s an interesting magic you are using. Ink is not an element I see often. At least I think My memory is a bit wonky at times. Last person I really remember using it was a nice guy.”
Qiao was considered to be multitasking. Fighting monsters of this caliber was not the hardest thing he had to do. His magic standards could have him kill everything inside the tent if he felt like it. The hardest part was actually holding back so as to not injure the civilians. It helps that he was focusing on the young peacock mage. It was making the fight easier as he started to figure out the beast's actions as well. Qiao’s speed was increasing as he started to plan further and further ahead into the battle. [break][break] His breath attack that he channeled gathered the other bit as he shot it at the last thorny death beast that was trying to stab him. “Based on how they are moving this should have been the last of the stronger ones. I think the scorpions should be next.” Qiao spoke to himself as he worked. Speaking audibly often gave him the chance to sort out his thoughts and plan of action. Qiao knocked an arrow as he ran up to a fire lizard. The lizard tried to whack Qiao with his tail. He jumped and started walking up on the lizard before shooting the arrow at a shadow scorpion aimed to take out Ashens. While a fair amount of the monsters focused on Qiao it did not mean they would avoid trying to eat the civilians. Qiao did not want Ashens to end up dead as they would be a terrible spot on his record. How could Qiao ever be expected to lead the squad if he allowed his squad mates to end up dead. [break][break] Qiao looked down at his feet as a wave of heat hit his skin. “Luckily I have my mana skin. While the damage was negligible the heat of this thing would burn me to a crisp if I was not careful.” He loaded and fired another arrow into the fire breathing lizard he used as a springboard. The body cooling down and turning into ashes after its abrupt demise. [break][break] “Ashens when you are finishing getting the civilians out then you can fight. In fact I can use it as a decent time to train you. The scorpions should not be that much stronger than you. As long as you can beat them you should grow stronger. I think. At least I can examine how you use your magic after the fight and give you some pointers. Since a lot of the battle really just involves utilizing your strength to it’s maximum value. Then using your enemies weaknesses to your advantage as well.” [break][break] As a member of the brainy squad Qiao would always look for the chance to teach. Just thinking about magic oftentimes was able to make him go from silent to long winded. It was a trait he did not even know he had till he noticed when people's eyes started to glaze over. When he worked at the brothel with his mom he never spoke as much. The clients would only freeze away from a brainy worker, as they were never there for the conversation anyway.

Like a breeze the spells move swiftly it avoids direct confrontation by flowing around it. Allowing it to dodge other sources of mana in the way to reach the target. Getting a compliment from Qiáo in this insane moment was enlightening, making Ashens feel like the choice of being a Magic Knight was the way to go. “Yes my ink is unique and related to myths as are my entire family’s magic.” After seeing Qiáo multi-task his abilities while still trying to talk with Ashens he realized how much he had to learn since he needed to focus on his ink more than Qiáo’s magic. Taking out a Fire Lizard while still having his mana skin on Qiáo told Ashens to get the rest of the civilians out then start fighting and considering the situations he said it would be a decent time to train. Realizing what Qiáo said Ashens had a mix of emotions, he was both excited to learn something new and scared because he never faced anything like this before especially with terrified people all over the place. Considering Qiáo's confidence that this would be a good training session then Ashens will give it his all to show Qiáo his skills so he can improve but first he had to get the rest of the civilians out of the area.
Thinking at first that he got everyone out he looked around a bit more while trying to avoid the mana beasts. Soon after he discovers more people on the other side of the tent hidden in a tarped wagon from the mana beasts he says. “Hey there, don’t panic and just come with me. We’ll find an exit together.” Once getting everyone out of the wagon they all start running over with Ashens as he leads them out through another exit nearby, an alleyway not that far from the wagon and leading towards the main part of the city. “Hey go through here! HURRY!” Ashens called out to the rest of the group as they all rushed through the alleyway. While bringing them in he noticed that 2 of the Fire Lizards that were going towards Qiáo redirect their focus onto Ashens and the evacuating civilians.
Protecting the civilians Ashens runs to the back of them with his grimoire and calls out. “Condemned by the Wolf! Hunt down the Fire Lizards” Instantly ink pours out and multiple wolf heads pop out once again but this time ramming down the Fire Lizards on their way to Ashens. Seeing that the rest of the civilians run out Ashens uses his quill to write a symbol to activates Ancient Ruin Curse on the wall and in which the alleyway’s entrance became zig zagged with ink chains to prevent the Fire Lizards or any other beasts to exit that way too. Turning his attention back to the Fire Lizards struggling against the wolf heads holding them down and draining their mana he sees more of them coming towards the same direction. Knowing that he can’t take them by himself Ashens runs back to Qiáo. “Qiáo! I got the last of the hidden civilians out of the area but I saw more mana beasts heading towards us from the West side I came from. I was able to hold 2 of them down and their mana being eaten by my wolves but I don’t know if that’ll do it.”
