It felt like centuries have passed since Fuu set foot into this town. The last she was here was about a year ago to participate in the Magic Knights Exams. Although she was here for job related matters, the dwarf couldn't help but think about the exam while walking to her destination...of course while sneaking a few wallets from unsuspecting people along the way. Despite not getting into the squad she wanted to join, she still enjoyed herself dring the exams. Plus, overtime the teen had gotten use to the Green Mantises which was no surprise because she fit in more with them in comparison to the Crimson Lions, but it hasn't stopped her from being a fan of them! With a satisfied smirk on her face, Fuu was recalling how well she did in all of the segments...or almost all of them.
As the earth mage continued to walk, she stopped at the sight of a familiar building. It was where the exams were held. Fuu looked up at the structure with her arms crossed. A cocky smirk appeared on her face, but it slowly faded as she started to fully recollect what happened. It was when she had to battle that one guy. He had magic that could tear through space which now thinking about it, sorta reminded the girl of that sentient hat she and Titania had to destroy back in that haunted dungeon. Her mind went quickly back to that boy however. There was more to his magic then just void...then of course there was the number of leafs on his clover....
Thinking about that put Fuu in a fowl mood. Her cockiness turned to an annoyed expression as her arms fell to her side, hands clenched into fists. She was able to hold her own in that fight, tank some of his attacks, but in the end he was just too strong for her. Fuu still did pretty well in the exams, but losing a fight tends to sting when it comes to this Noble's pride. "Brooding bastard...Hope I don't see his ass again." the girl mumbled before continuing on.
Eventually, Fuu found herself on the outskirts of town. She approached an old looking house and knocked on the door. After a few seconds, the door opened an a polite looking elderly man was on the other side. "Why hello there dear-" Fuu then interrupted him by flashing her Green Mantis mantle towards his face. "Yeah yeah, I'm here for the job. Something about collecting magic wood or whatever?" Fuu added, not looking too thrilled. The broom maker didn't seem phased by her attitude however. "Why yes, but shouldn't there be two of you? I'm afraid this job requires extra hands." the broom maker added, much to Fuu's annoyance. "Wha-Seriously, geezer!? It's just a bunch of twigs..." the girl grumbled, facing away from the male with her arms crossed. Fuu was not looking forward to this.
Hopefully she wouldn't have to deal with anyone annoying....

Standing only a few meters away from the arena, recollections of his past began to flood in. He could remember standing on that very same spot, looking past the rooftops to witness the grand arena where the exams were held. Indeed, his memories were fresh. It had been a year ever since, the fated day on which he had the opportunity to become a full-fleged Magic Knight. It was never his decision to begin with, however, after a year or so of becoming one, he eventually grew fond of what he is without regrets.
He could remember things rather vividly, most especially due to the fact that a good portion of its attendees and spectators were fixated on him along with a couple others who, alongside him, either had a four leaf clover on their grimoire or simply possessed above average skills. In his case, the number of leaves on his grimoire alone signified that he was someone to avoid, while for others, it signified that he was a target to destroy. He had to fend off a handfull of opponents, most of which were simply trying to prove themselves. While he took care of it, it's not to say that it was done with any ease. He struggled for the mere fact that he was jumped so frequently, one fight after another, with introductions being his only breather.
But he wasn't there to reminisce. He was there to take care of something, gathering magical wood it seemed. While the task may seem trivial, the reward did appeal to him for quite a bit. With his goal in mind, he went onward with his walk, reaching the old broom maker who appears to have already met one potential helper. The request did specify for two, after all. He approached the shop and stood directly upfront of the Green Mantis knight, not to be rude however, simply to come closer towards the old man afraid that his sight and hearing might already be failing him at his age.
"At your service." He uttered formally as he flashed the Golden Dawn's insignia emblazoned on his cloak. "I'll be of aid to gather those materials you needed sir, as per your request." He stepped to his side and tilted his body to face more sidewards, angled more towards the Green Mantis knight that stood there. "My accompaniment, I assume." He added as he eyed the female mantis.
"Why yes, you two should be enough. Get me at least four pieces of blessed magical wood dears. I'll be waiting here."
The old man wearily smiled and waved at them both dismissively with his shaky arms. With all that said and done, he couldn't help but notice thay his partner for the task did seem quite familiar, yet he couldn't quite put his finger on it as to how and why. Though it was to be expected perhaps as they were both Magic Knights after all, it would have only been natural to catch sight of fellow Magic Knights on more than one occassion. He simply gave his parter a gaze to his side, hoping she'd initiate their conversation as he sure as hell wouldn't.

Fuu continued to pout and grumble at the fact of having to team up with someone for something so simple! The broom maker not completely aware why the girl was acting this way looked a bit concerned and was just about to say something, he had notice another person making his way over. Being too busy being grumpy, the earth mage hadn't noticed until said person walked past her and started speaking to the elderly man. "Huh?"
As the two talked to each other, Fuu stared at the back of the other Magic Knight's head. After blinking a few times, the dwarf furrowed her brows. There was something familiar about the guy. His voice...the way he looked. She couldn't put a finger on it, but it was pissing her off. It wasn't until the guy backed up and faced Fuu's direction that she'd begin to remember, her eyes widening in shock before lowering in anger. "Y-y-y-" The teen stuttered as if she were about to burst while pointing accusingly at her partner as she gritted her teeth, glaring at him with her pale green eyes. He may not remember, but to Fuu it was like yesterday.
"YOOOUUUUU!!!"
The teen finally let it out, startling the broom maker a bit. "You've gotta be kidding me! Why are you here!? Come to gloat with that special grimoire of yours and fancy ass Golden Dawn cloak huh!?" The girl raged while poking furiously at the guy's Golden Dawn insignia. "Listen pal, you may have caught me off guard back at the games, but it ain't happening again!" the angry dwarf claimed before backing up with her arms crossed. "No one bests Fuu Wilhelm...Twice." she added, annoyingly blowing a strand of her hair in front of her face to the side.
Once again, the broom maker appeared like he was about to say something until he was once again cut off by the girl. "Just you wait, geezer! I'll be coming back with all four pieces...by myself." she claimed, glaring back at the other knight as she said the last part. With that, she started to make her way to the forest nearby, marching angrily. The broom maker looked a bit lost, but then turned his attention to the golden dawn knight if he were still there. "Be careful now. There are many trees in that forest, but only a few produce the wood I seek." He added with a warm smile.

"Me...?"
Confused as to what the lady before him was rattling about, Faust craned his head to the left with show of evident befuddlement. Was there something about him? Did he do anything wrong? Perhaps it was rude of him to stand upfront of the other Knight without excusing himself, or perhaps it was something else entirely that he might have forgotten. Just then, he was reminded by her remarks—rather loudly, in fact.
It seemed as though she was one of the many participants he had to competed with from the Magic Knights exam held only a year ago, how coincidental, truly, considering his blissful recollection of this particular event mere moments ago. However, by the sound of it, her memory of it wasn't as blissful as his. She must have been bested by him in combat—a cause for her sudden and rather strong disdain towards the young man. While he's still not sure what it is that he did exactly to warrant such a potent reaction out of her, he simply hoped for things to be amended later on as time went by. Both him and the old broom maker blankly stared at her as she gave off her rant, with Faust being mostly unsure as to how he should feel nor react.
"I'm not here to flaunt my flair... I'm simply here for business much like you are." He uttered, monotonous as ever as he straightened his head. "I'm glad you came through and became a knight yourself, though." It was a genuine remark, though it might not sound like such as his monotonous tone and deadpan demeanor might give off the wrong impression as it often does. It didn't take long for her to finish her bickering, as she stormed off towards the forest shortly after. Faust gave the elderly a bow as a sign of respect before shortly following his company through the tall misty trees. He had his pace go from a measly stroll to that of a brisk, trying his best to catch up before she got in any father.
He trailed behind her, with a space of a few feet or so between them both. It sure was obvious that the Green Mantis knight won't ever even try to acknowledge his presence. By the looks of it, they just had to talk it out, most likely, just to make amends. Though the prospect of talking things out did present a problem for Faust as he never knew how to naturally win the heart of others. Though he did know one way of going about such things—forming formal relations with peace talks and negotiations.
"I- I think it would be of our best interest to form a mutual tie..." He uttered, hesitantly at first as they continued with their trek through the forest. "I propose a peaceful conclusion to our... feud? If you may call it that..." Quite unsure if he had to call it a feud, after all, he had nothing against her from the very start.
Despite the other Magic Knight's claim of not trying to showoff and congratulating, Fuu's thick skull wasn't buying any of that. The dwarf is usually quick to come to her own conclusions and when she's angry, she doesn't let up.
Instead, Fuu continued to march down to the forest, trying her best to ignore the guy behind her which was hard because she could hear his footsteps. She hadn't been this annoyed about someone since Charles, another Magic Knight she hates over petty reasons. At this point, she just wanted to hurry up and get that broom, and be done with this.
After a few moments of walking with the forest now in sight, Fuu stopped in her tracks the moment she heard her partner stutter. With her eyes closed, Fuu tilted her head up and exhaled through her nose before turning around to face the guy as he continued to talk, tapping her bare foot on the ground with arms crossed. She tilted her head up a bit to look at the void user's face, her expression saying that she isn't buying whatever he's saying. "Oh, so you think you can just kick my ass and think it'll end there?" Fuu questioned, her tone not as loud as before but still holding that same furious weight. She'd then step closer to the guy, invading his personal space with her arms still crossed, gritting her teeth. "Listen, you. I don't care about what squad you're in nor do I give a damn about how many leaves are on your grimoire..." She'd then get on her tip toes to try and reach a more even ground with the man. "Just know that if we come to blows again, I will break you..." With that, Fuu took a few steps back and turned around in a huff and headed into the forest. She really didn't take losses well...
Now in the forest, Fuu was once again grumbling to herself while searching around for the wood. She looked around any trees she's come across as well as the wood on the ground before realization hit her. "....How am I suppose to tell which one is magical!?" Could've been as simple as just sensing the mana on them...but Fuu was too angry to think straight.
As his company stopped with her tracks, so did Faust, allowing her to come closer as he gave his proposition. Thankfully, as this could have only meant that she had been listening to his words... right?
"Oh, so you think you can just kick my ass and think it'll end there?"
"Yes, quite frankly." He replied in all seriousness with a nod, having no solid grasp on sarcasm at all, not even one bit. However, having heard what she had said, it made it more evident for Faust that perhaps this answer of his wasn't the most correct one out of all his given choices.
"Very well then." He said in response with his eyes closed to signify his content, his expression just as deadpan and lax as it usually were. It didn't seem as though the mantis had any intention to reconcile, then so be it, it's not that he's bothered by her grudge and resentment after all. "Know that it was never my intention to kick someone's ass." He added. "It simply comes naturally, so to speak."
Again, while he might not have any ill intention with what he had said, it would have most likely sounded much like a snarky remark as it usually would. Her remarks truly had nothing on Faust, not even a smidge of intimidation, most likely due to the fact that he's used to such threats. Instead, he remained in silence and simply gave a sigh. In fact, she didn't seem all that bad, just a tad bit too energetic for his taste. And so, as his fellow knight turned to resume her stroll, so did Faust, following suit much like he did only moments before their confrontation.
"Either way, I suppose you should know my name." He uttered as they kept on with their walk. "You could address me as Faust, should you wish."
They walked for a bit more; leaves crunching, twigs snapping, birds chirping—it was actually a rather nice and peaceful stroll if not for the heavy atmosphere made by his furious companion. Hearing the other knight's question, Faust picked up with his pace. "You sense its mana." He answered abruptly despite his companion not asking him in particular. With that said, he picked up a few branches as he kept with his walk, one on each hand, and gave a swift glance at both before throwing them back down to his sides nonchalantly. "I can't sense much, very faint." He sighed, looking straight ahead. "A bit deeper in, I suppose."
He took a few more steps a bit faster than he previously did. "You can sense that, can you not?" He asked, in all serious, just as he caught up with the other knight, now walking with her side by side.

Fuu found how easily the other guy was taking her threats so fine to be annoying. This seemed to be a common occurrence lately, people not taking the teen seriously. Was it because she's tiny? There are a lot of strong dwarfs out there, plus she was part of one of the kingdom's most influential and powerful noble families. Maybe because she's still a junior Magic Knight? She has reached second class now, so blowing through the ranks didn't feel like an issue.
...Maybe she was just weak?
The thought of that made the girl wince a little. She hated being looked down on, seen as something lesser which is a big part of why the earth mage is the way she is, hoping that one day it'll all change and she'll be both feared and respected....as well as someone who people will actually go to for help. Those thoughts were quickly pushed to the back of her head as the void mage gave his name, causing Fuu to grunt annoyingly. Even though she already yelled her name out to the guy not too long ago, Fuu decided to introduce herself again "It's Fuu..." she said with a grumble, sticking an arm up to flip the Golden Dawn boy off while still walking.
The dwarf picked up and tossed every wood she came across, struggling to find some sign of whether it were the right one or not. After hearing Faust's response, Fuu had a slight look of realization, almost wanting to facepalm herself for not figuring that out sooner. "Yeah, yeah I knew that..." the girl claimed as she tossed a piece of wood to the side and walked deeper into the forest, clearly not wanting to give Faust any credit.
Diving deeper into the forest, Fuu continued to grumble, but slowly started to find herself captivated by the forest around her, causing the girl's face to loosen up some. Despite her rowdy nature, Fuu has always had a weak spot for nature, and birds especially. She eventually stopped in her tracks, forgetting what she was here for and looked up at the sky with a warm smile on her face as she gently rubbed the side of her arm. The sight of nature never ceases to amaze her. It was as if Fuu were a different person, connecting herself with the earth around her like this. She was in a state of bliss until the void mage spoke again, reminding her that she wasn't alone nor here for sightseeing.
"Hm?" with a somewhat soft tone, she looked towards him with that smile still on her face, but it was gone a split second later, replaced by flushed cheeks before looking away with a hint of embarrassment. "Oh...you're still here." She mumbled. "Of course I can sense that. Only a complete failure couldn't." she added, yet her sensory was weaker in comparison to Faust's.
She didn't sense that mana until she got closer to where Faust was going, and to her surprise there were four pieces of wood laying against a tree that appeared different from the others here. It had more color to it, and appeared majestic. The mana coming from this tree was amazing, enough to cause Fuu to walk up to it and place a hand on the bark with her face in awe. She then backed up and gave the tree one more look before turning her attention to the wood on the ground. It was...convenient that there was already four down there, but the girl wasn't going to question it. "Heh, looks like I found em first, loser!" she claimed before picking two of them up. The dwarf attempted to swipe the other two as well, but it was just too much to hold. After a few more failed attempts, she looked up at Faust before averting her eyes.
"Guess you can pick them up, or whatever. But only because I don't feel like carrying em." the girl said with a pout before walking off with her two pieces.
Fuu, said his female companion as she flipped him off. The rude gesture was simply met with a sigh as they continued with their stroll. After a few more moments of wandering through the forest, the two had finally met with their intention. The tree was much larger than the others, thicker, taller, and much more teeming with life. Just as his fellow knight did, Faust too had pressed his palm against its bark, allowing him to sense its nigh overwhelming mana. As he sighed in relief, he gave the tree a pat or two and turned his attention towards his company.
It seemed as though the Green Mantis were fortunate enough to find just enough wood to suffice the old broom maker's request. Whoever found their goal first was of no importance to him, in fact, he's very clueless of the female mantis' teasing and was instead glad to have found what they came for. He watched as Fuu struggled to pick up the remaining two pieces of wood off of the ground, giving her enough time to allow her to pick up and carry as much as she could. However, after a few more moments, his fellow knight seemed to have given up and had tasked him to pick them up instead. Without any qualms, Faust came to then pick up those that she had left for him.
"We should head back then." He said, wearily, as he bent down to pick both pieces of wood off of the ground.
Much like before, he allowed for his companion to lead the way. From there, it was only a matter of taking a straight path back to where they came from, a bit less of a hassle that when they had to find the ambiguous magic tree the old man had spoke of. Nevertheless, they were able to locate exactly that and bring exactly as they were tasked. Faust carried both pieces of wood across his arms, it wasn't as heavy as he had thought, perhaps a property it had to have considering it's a material supposedly used to make flying brooms.
"A job well done." He uttered as they continued their walk. "If you're still miffed, then I suppose we could do a rematch at a future date, should you accept." He offered, granting her the opportunity to face him yet again. While he might not necessarily need to prove himself in any way, a spar would have been a good opportunity to match against equally strong opponents. By the looks of her, she did seem like the strong type, a fearsome knight she must be—if not for her features that are more cute than they are intimidating.
He sighed with relief, followed by a yawn. "I await for that very day." He added. The path was familiar, it seemed as though they were taking the right path, thankfully. Eventually, they neared the exit. While it might still be far ahead, he could already see the clearing beyond the trees as well as the light that's past the shade of the towering trees they were shaded by.
Once Faust crouched down to pick up the other two pieces, Fuu had already started walking as the void mage spoke. "I know." She didn't need a reminder that their job was done. Fuu was kinda annoyed about needing the other knight's help after all. Though if he weren't here, all the girl would probably have to do is make two trips which seemed pretty tedious but not that bad. Plus now that she's seen this forest...and that beautiful tree, the earth mage wouldn't mind coming back on her own, mostly because she's embarrassed about her love for nature.
Now back on the path to the broom maker's shop, it was quiet for a little, but soon the silence would be broken surprisingly by Faust. Fuu simply furrowed her eyes to his first response, but the moment the guy suggested a rematch, Fuu's face loosened up a bit after the void mage claimed he'd be looking forward to it. At first, she thought he only brought this up because he wanted to make a fool out of the dwarf again, but was he just eager to fight again? No...he certainly must be looking forward to thrash her again. This thought caused Fuu to revert back to her cocky demeanor. Not realizing it herself, the girl slowed down some and was now next to Faust as they continued to walk.
"Look, buddy. I'm not 'miffed' about anything ya hear?" A lie she stood strongly behind...
"But if it's a rematch you want...I'll honor you with one. Just know that I'll be the one beating you into the ground this time around." she claimed, flashing a challenging grin to the boy.
After a bit of walking, the two eventually made it back to the broom maker who was sweeping the front porch of his place. Taking a moment to wipe the sweat off his forehead, the elderly man noticed the two Magic Knights approaching with the material in hand and gave them a friendly wave. "I see you both had no trouble finding them." He claimed before gesturing to a small area on the porch. "Just place them up here, thank you kindly." Fuu had placed her two on the porch and started to rub the dirt off her palms. "Of course it was easy, because I'm here." the girl claimed with a prideful smile which got a little chuckle out of the old man. "Well I'm out. Enjoy your wood, geezer." Fuu said as she turned around and was just about to leave until the man stopped her. "Hold on now deary. I've got something special for the both of you." the guy claimed as he picked up a broom that was leaning up against the wall by him and handed it to Faust before giving the one he was using to sweep to Fuu.
Puzzled at first, Fuu grabbed the broom, looking down at it before looking back up at the old man. "Eh, no thanks. I prefer to keep my room dirty anyway." she claimed, attempting to hand it back. The old man chuckled once more and shook his head. "Oh, no. Did you not read the rewards for the job? That is no ordinary broom." After hearing this, Fuu looked even more puzzled. It should've been simple, given what this guy is known for making...
After a few seconds of inspecting the broom and sensing the familiar mana within, it finally clicked. "Wha-This is...a flying broom!?" Fuu asked with glee in her tone, bouncing up and down in front of the old man. The guy simply nodded, causing Fuu to nearly scream in excitement but managed to hold it in. "Well I mean, of course you should give me this. I've earned it after all." Fuu added, trying to keep her tough exterior going. She then turned around, facing away from the two with a smile of delight on her face. With that, Fuu gave a wave to the old man. "Thanks, geezer." She'd then look over to the magic knight, her small smile turning to a smirk. "...Better not wuss out on our spar." With that the dwarf started to take her leave.
Despite how this day started...it wasn't all that bad...not that she'd admit it.

The Green Mantis knight agreed upon his offer. It would most likely be a good learning experience to spar with the vigorous dwarf, judging by her demeanor alone, it seemed as though she's the type to work hard for her gains—a stark contrast for Faust who's fortunate enough to have been gifted with his ability and prowess innately. The challenge was more than welcome and, as he always had, wouldn't dare underestimate his prospective opponent's capabilities in combat. Her grin was met with a nod as Faust kept on with their stroll through the forest.
After a few more minutes, the two had finally emerged out of the woods. The sudden burst of light was blinding at first, though his eyesight did manage to readjust its light levels swiftly after a few more seconds of being exposed in the sun's rays. It took a few more steps before eventually reaching the old broom maker's hut. They caught him sweeping up his front porch, just as serene as he seemed during their initial introductions earlier that day. Dried leaves were swept off of his wooden porch and down towards the grassy ground before he had taken sight of the two Knights, giving them both a wave with his shaky arms. As the old man gestured towards a portion of his porch where they could drop off the wood they were tasked with gathering, Faust allowed Fuu to deposit hers first before following right after to drop off his share of logs.
While Fuu seemed to be in a hurry, Faust on the other hand stood there in wait. He knew of the task's reward and it was something in particular that he had been meaning to get for quite some time already. Considering what it was, a little physical labor in exchange for such a thing seemed a whole lot like a major bargain deal, perhaps even better. Hence he took up the broom maker's request despite of being something as easy as picking up logs, something common citizens could've done with relative ease even when blindfolded. Just as the broom maker was done with addressing Fou to prevent her from leaving prematurely, the old man finally took out what it was that he came for. He was then handed with his share of their reward, one for each of them, with him having his first. Just as stated with the information he was given, it was indeed a flying broom, all for free.
He wouldn't utter a word as Fuu and the old broom maker exchanged words, instead, he occupied himself by inspecting the broom he was handed with. It was very much akin to the ordinary cleaning tool Fuu had mistaken it of being, a seemingly standard wooden broom shaft, varnished to perfection, giving it a smooth texture to prevent splinters from ever incurring. On one of its ends, a bundle of dark corn husks were tightly secured acting as its bristles to complete the traditional broomstick look. While it may be true that the two may use it to do cleaning much like what brooms usually did, but it was far more special and useful than that. It emanated similar mana to what the wood they were tasked on retrieving were giving off, evidently, those was the same type of wood used to make such famed flying brooms.
"Thank you, kindly." He said just as he had finished with his broom's inspection, in response, the old broom maker gave him a weary nod. For a brief moment, he could've sworn to see his fellow knight to have been smiling in delight, far more different than what she had looked like throughout their journey, but it must've not been the case—just imagining things perhaps, dismissing the thought and the mental image that accompanied it. Fuu then gave her wave towards the broom maker which gave a wave in return for her departure just as the mantis turned to address Faust. "That I look forward to." He replied curtly with a gentle nod.
He lifted his broom parallel against the ground before ever so slowly letting it go. As he had expected, the broom did levitate, hovering just where he had left it. It was such a wondrous thing indeed, and with the old broom maker being revered for his years of experience, he could only be assured of its quality. He picked it back up, and, with his face still as deadpan as it were before, gave a bow towards the old man out of respect and as a parting gesture. "Then I shall take my leave as well." He said.
"Very well now... But wouldn't you want to try it out, lad?" The old broom maker chuckled, suggesting that Faust should try riding his newfound broom off to where he's headed. He gave much thought to it and, as it seemed, it would have been a nice opportunity to both speed up his travel and get used to the broom's mechanics. The broom still levitated at the same height as he had left it, since it's already suspended in mid air, Faust simply had to bring it down a bit. He stepped over it and lifted it back up in between his legs. Truth be told, it wasn't the most comfortable thing to ride mostly considering his man parts being put in a rather unconventional position, however the broom maker did somehow made it feel much better than just straight up sitting on a horizontal pole—magic was a wondrous thing after all.
There were no trouble with stabilizing at all, it even made him seem like a natural broom rider with how refined the flying broom was. He lifted himself up and up and up before eventually reaching past the broom maker's hut. Then and there, he wave the old man goodbye as he slowly picked up forward speed, eventually, he was zooming across the town.
