Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
The small group made it to Nanami's home safely, there was a little bump in the road as the silver owl Charles created was damaged from a small bomb trap. But other then that the ride went smoothly, a weight off Valo's shoulders was released when they made it to her home. Valo took a deep breath in and let it out, he was honestly relieved when Nanami's mother came to the door. His worst fear would have been leaving Nanami somewhere else, or taking her with them to face these Daemons. Now at least he didn't have to worry, she was home and safe.
After embracing her daughter the mother quickly reached and hugged Valo tightly, the act caught him off guard he was surprised he didn't really expect it. Valo was used to being thrown in jail cells in Kikka, and people for the most part didn't like him. But there was a select few that had a left a certain impression on him, Nanami and her family was one of them. It was when he met Nanami that he just started to change up his act, and better himself. Valo returned the hug using his right arm, it was nice and warm hug, it was needed. But her words after that reminded him all this was far from over, if anything it was just beginning. "I'm sorry. We'll make them pay. I promise you." Valo replied to her, his cross shaped eyes full of focus and determination. He did not intend to fail her. From the look on her face he could tell she had been crying for hours and hours, he wished he could do more for her.
She stepped inside and returned with something in her hand, two crystal rings with a raging fire and wind inside them. Valo took one gently and studied it, he could already feel a boost in his overall power. He placed the ring on his finger in his right hand, he nodded at the women. "I'll hold you to that promise." he said about returning for dinner. And again him and Charles were off heading to the next well, he hopped on top of his silver made owl. "We should head to the Purple Orca's headquarters, its not to far from here if we keep going north." Valo said so they could head to their location, and start taking down these wells. Using his mana tether Valo controlled his fire bird golems to fly around in front of them. Hopefully they would be able to hit a trap, before it hit them on their way to the next well.
Valo heard Charles question about what he thought the rings were capable of doing, he took another look at his own ring staring at the fire inside of it. "Well for one I can already feel slightly more...powerful with it on. So they are giving us a boost of sorts...but I have been getting this strange tingle in my head. It's not painful or anything...but it's weird. Have you been getting the same feeling?" Valo asked Charles, genuinely interested in what he had to say about it.

Genesis Fantôme
La Poste
It seemed like the Blue Rose knight and the dark mage would be coming with her after all. She heard Hans’ returning quip, but by then, she was already up in the air, with the witch in tow, sitting behind her. It was surprising that she had accepted her handshake, disregarding the mess on her hand. Perhaps not all Magic Knights were like those pompous nobles who strutted around with their noses in their air. But why was she apologizing to her now? The redhead was completely lost, but still nodded to acknowledge her words. She did, however, understand the last part.
“Want to buy me a new set of clothes then? Anything black would do.” One could hear the jest in her tone. “I mean, if there’s any stores left standing by the end of this.” It seemed like being on the move had lifted her mood and demeanor considerably. At the witch’s suggestion, Genesis steered her broom in accordance to the said formation. She winced when the other female asked about the distance like the orbs’ explosion, but still nodded. It was a good thing that the latter was so talkative, since she had used up her word supply of the day already.
On the way to the first well, Genesis had kept her ki sensory out, attempting to sense out the ‘surprises’ the daemon had mentioned earlier. She had managed to dodge a few close ones, but two of the witch’s broom golems were not so lucky. It was a good idea that their caster had kept them far from the flying trio, otherwise the repercussions would have definitely hit them. Having the dark mage’s defense spells had also added on a layer of security. She had felt that his power seemed different, though he could have easily become stronger during the time they last met in the Deep Forests.
So apparently the first well was at a park. As she neared the area, everything seemed to fall silent. She looked around in confusion. Her ki was telling her that they were still flying, the witch’s mouth was still moving, and the dark mage was besides them...but where was the slight whooshing of wind? Where was the low hum of mana? Heck, she could not even hear her own breathing. It seemed like their hearing was completely gone...unless it was just her. The redhead shook her head, gathering her thoughts. No matter. The well needed to be dealt with first. She was about to land, but seeing how eerily quiet it was, decided not to, and flew back up to join where the dark mage was.
Hovering above the dark mana source, she looked down and used her ki to sense out what she could. It seemed unprotected, but she doubted the daemon would make it that easy for them. There seemed to be more than one trap, but she would venture to guess that they were next to the well, if not directly on it. She twisted back to face the witch and the male mage, trying to decipher their lip movements and hand motions. From the female, she had caught a few words: ‘trap’, ‘seventy’, ‘bombardment’, ‘wise’, ‘gut’, ‘hurry’... She blinked rapidly, trying to piece it all together.
“Up?” She mouthed and pointed up. Assuming that she got the affirmative nod, she started flying higher and higher, only stopping when the witch suddenly started shooting out her magic. Ah, so her plan seemed to be brute forcing their way past the traps and into the well, while keeping a safe distance from it, in case of some massive explosion. Since the shadow mage knew her spells would not last in this distance, she stayed on alert, ready to fly up higher and away if anything started shooting back at them. She also formed her Couteaux knives, ready to launch it at any incoming missiles that might come within her range...
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Assuming that they had somehow defeated the traps and the well, and were still bodily intact, Genesis would face her two companions and give a grateful nod to them both. Their fight and reactions had been impressive, and held tremendous power behind them. She really needed to hone up her own skills and powers, otherwise she would be nothing but dead weight in a crucial fight. The young woman would make sure the ethereal mage and dark mage were ready before flying off to the second destination.
Genesis kept her ki sensory out, attempting to sense out any other traps on the way to the second well. As they left the zone, hopefully their hearing would come back, but regardless, she would feel that her broom was heating up slightly. The witch, if she was still sitting behind her, would also feel it. There was a time limit of how long she could keep it afloat, but she would make sure they arrived at the second place.

Even though she felt the well the vice-captain of the green mantis decided that they would leave it for now, there would be plenty of time to take it out after she took care of the daemon after all if the others hadn't dealt with it before the end of the main threat of this entire chess game. As she landed she would see the church as tranquil as anyone would have expected, it hadn't seemed damage and if it hadn't been for the bodies of beaten men and women no one would have suspected anything would have been wrong. The door was wide open as if to welcome her as a guest. Upon entering the female magic knight would be met with blacks and reds along the wall in an elegant fashion the floor was wide open as if there had never been furniture there for people to pray and where the alter would have been sat Sven on an obsidian throne draped in ruby red silks "Welcome, welcome..." he said standing walking towards her as if greeting a friend "It took you long enough to stop babysitting the children, I am guessing you are here to attempt to make me meet my demise..." he stopped in the middle of the hall and smiled almost sinisterly "It will not be that easy my sweet, I assure you." he said his very tone sweet as honey but dripping with deadly poison at the same time.
~~~~~~~~~
Charles and Valo:
You both left the house with your rewards after boarding the silver eagle using Valo's golems as guards against the unseen traps that are in the area. Both magic knights strangely for around thirty seconds knew the exact location of every trap in the immediate vicinity but more than that they knew where there were civilians and how many were together and their locations within the buildings. Heading north from the house it wouldn't be too long before the two landed in the courtyard of the Purple Orca headquarters, due to the rings the traps would be easily avoided and so no damage would be taken by the golems or construct. When they landed the entire place seemed void of any movement, it would have been an eerie experience as both knew that when it came to the headquarters of a magic knight squad that there was always people moving around. Within the middle of the courtyard was the well which seemed completely unguarded that was until a woman with black hair looking as if they came from Hino walked around it her hands trailing the darkened well, the area turning to look more like a graveyard with a thick fog. "So, two more come to join my graveyard? I will take care of your shadows, they will not know despair." she said softly sitting on the edge of the well "I am Lilitu, I believe you have met my twin brother Ito already." She said her voice seemed saddened as she met them. "I suggest you leave for now and come back later, you are no match for me at our current strengths." she wouldn't attempt to stop them if they turned away to leave.
Getting to the park was the easy part in comparison to what they now found themselves facing, there was no enemy but it had been trapped and in such a way that it was clear that if they made a wrong move that there was a chance it would be a repeat of the graveyard without someone there protecting them. Quickly it would seem they came to a decision on how to handle it, flying above Seren and Hans set up a defensive perimeter that would absorb the worst of the blow that came as the bombardment went down towards the traps triggering all three even at the worst of it taken there was still a crater left in the ground to around an intermediate aoe distance, but it was clear it would have been two or three times that if they hadn't taken the actions they did. Some of the rubble came up towards the group but Genesis made quick work of it. When all the smoke and dust cleared the well would still be sat in one piece it was, however, releasing a darkened liquid, it had clearly been damaged all it would take was one or two good hits before it would be destroyed when it would be done there would be an almost implosion as the well would fall into itself leaving no trace that it had ever been there, the hearing of the group would return but not fully.
Story:
Artemis has met Sven in the church and he has made it clear that he is why she is there and that it will not be easy to take him down. Charles and Valo have found their way into the Purple Orca headquarters and came face to face with Lilitu who seemingly had turned the place into a graveyard and has calmly said that they should leave as they stood no chance right not against her, she has made no movements to attempt to stop them leaving. Genesis, Hans and Seren have worked together and made a crater in the middle of the park, due to their strategy there was no permanent damage, they weren't harmed and neither where anyone within buildings nearby. The well itself is damaged but still standing, it is clear with a few more hits it would be ready to crumble.
*** Shoom! Things exploded… but in a good way for once! It was hard to see, but with her sensory as well as her brooms’ she was thankfully able to tell that their plan had worked, though not without some collateral damage. Seren made careful note of the reaction… This well had been in the park, but Seren had something of a bad feeling that the other well locations might not be so convenient.
Before Genesis could have them head to the well, Seren poked her side and made a number of grand gestures with her arms and then pointed at the well. The witch was making letters with her brooms, them bending and glowing in a comical cartoon fashion. Her message roughly came out as:
Seren then fired at the well again for another intermediate damage.
***
After that, should the well have been properly dealt with, Seren had no objections about taking off. As Genesis was their principle navigator, Seren left that to her best judgment, as the witch arranged her broom golems for “safe” transit once again. Seren did not like getting predictable, but now wasn’t really the time for experimentation. If it wasn’t broken yet, why fix it (~niho~). That was essentially the witch’s reasoning.
“Ehhhh~ no magic knights~ huh~ niho~~~~ even though a witch can be one~ niho~~~~”
Seren pouted as they flew.
If they arrived at the next well, “The Ito Well” if you will, Seren would resummon her brooms refreshing them, and potentially returning her number to three. Sensing that Gen’s and Han’s own personal non-witchy brooms were reaching their limits, Seren would direct the two to hop on to her golem ones. She had just the right number for everyone to have their own.
“Hmmm niho~ I think it’s time you two traded our your clover brooms for my witchy ones~ niho~ you’ll find that they handle the same buuut~ maybe a little zippier~? ~Niho~? ~They wouldn’t be a witch’s brooms otherwise~~~”
Seren paused. Upon arrival, Seren’s expression had shifted. Though it was hard to see, one could hear it in her tone as she spoke.
“~As for your clothes Gen Gen~ niho~ I actually know a fun little shop that I’ve been wanting to visit over in the capital~ if we’re still alive after this~ I’d love to take you there~ but~~~”
Seren squinted against the darkness. Did she sense the demon? Or was it just a bad feeling in her gut that she couldn’t quite place.
“~~~based on our performance in the next 24 Cloverarian hours~ clothes in black may or may not be a littttle hard to find~ niho~ that’s what humans wear for mourning~ yes~? ~Nihmm~~~~? ~~~Be careful~ I'd like to try our same method as last time~ niho~ but demons are tricky tricky~ so each well might be annoyingly different~ niho~ for instance~ I think someone or something is waiting ahead~~~~”
Checking the status of her spells, Seren steeled herself for whatever lied ahead.
*** Combat Summery and Notes: 1) [maintained] Fairy Tender on Self, Genesis, Hans (+Int Healing) 2) Fired another Ether Spark barrage at damaged Well. (Int Damage?) 3) Rode on Gen's broom to next location. 4) If arrived at next well, resummoned Broom Golems and had Hans, Gen, and Seren board one each.
[attr="class","artemistext"] Artemis landed into the area. The church was pristine, at least as pristine as a building could look in a situation such as this. It looked untouched, however, and Artemis would have thought that this was so, besides the fact that all over the place were men and women beaten and unconscious. She had a moment where the urge to help almost overtook her prerogative for coming here. Artemis held herself strong, and continued on towards the church itself. [break][break]
The daemon greeted her.[break][break]
Artemis would keep a close watch, as she glanced around what used to be filled with lines and lines of benches. Everything was pushed aside, which left the church itself looking quite empty. Of course, as a show of power, the Daemon was sitting by the altar.[break][break]
“Child…” Undine would whisper to her young charge, but held herself as the Daemon made its way forward. She had her utmost trust placed upon the water mage. [break][break]
Artemis would listen to the Daemon’s short spiel, before raising her hand, the one with the bracelet dangling on it.[break][break]
“If you were true to your word, as you keep saying, and honourable, as you and your servants keep mentioning, then fighting a handicapped opponent is certainly beneath you.” Artemis stared into the Daemon with tenacity, “Take this bracelet off so that you might face an opponent that is worthy of your stature. Of course, if you don’t, then what does that say about your honour and integrity, hm?”[break][break]
It was a gamble, and she was unsure if it would work. Nevertheless, it was worth the shot. Artemis knew that by gaining her full sensory capability back, it might help with her fight against the Daemon. After all, it seemed to be a user of traps and illusions, something she had trained herself to combat against. [break][break]
She would wait now, hoping the Daemon would stick true to its seemingly awry code of honour.
This transformation allows Artemis flight, and the combination of both Physical Reinforcement to the Transformation allows her to move at a faster speed than normal. This makes the bow into a pseudo double-bladed short spear when needed for close quarter combat. The bow itself can shoot more than one arrow, following ammo rules. The arrows can either pierce through enemies, or be used as an AOE attack by letting it burst in a shower of sharp dagger like water droplets, causing Grand level damage. Genesis Fantôme
Clear grey-green eyes gleamed in satisfaction at the now-disarmed well down below. Through brute force, it seemed like they had gotten rid of whatever traps that were laying around the well. With the dark mage’s defense spells, they had somehow stayed bodily intact. The witch’s attacks had resulted in a massive explosion, and she was able to knock down some of the flying debris that flew up. Down there, the well had started to ooze dark liquid, much like the dark mana she had been feeling all along. But all in all, they were well and alive.
The witch had started signing some letters in the air, and Genesis nodded as the former launched one more attack at the well below them. Since her own attack range would not last from such a distance, and as she did not want to fly lower in case something else happened, she concentrated on keeping the broom steady and afloat. It was getting warmer, and she knew she would need to let it cool off for a bit before it can work again. Her ki was still actively at work, scanning their surroundings for any possible intruders. So far, so good.
Whether Hans decided to launch his own attack was up to him, but she would wait for him if he decided to do so. Since her hearing was still somehow muffled, she did not quite catch the implosion from the well. But as soon as it collapsed onto itself, some of her hearing returned. Not all, but it was better than nothing. And just like that, the dark mana source vanished, leaving no trace that it was ever there. Even the atmosphere seemed to lighten somehow, though it was probably just in her imagination.
The young woman would have pumped a fist in the air for their small victory, but she knew they were not done yet. There were still other wells out there that needed to be dealt with. She could only hope the other two knights on the other group had safely escorted the little girl home and was on their way to a well. Twenty-four hours—leave it to an inhuman being to give them an inhumane deadline.
With the first well properly dealt with, the redhead carefully navigated towards their second location, wary of any possible jump scares or hidden traps. But with the witch’s fresh new broom golems scouting out ahead in their flying formation, it had seemed pretty safe. Genesis spared a glance back at the mercenary, whom she assumed was close by. “Is it just me, or is your broom warm now?” It was probably just her broom or something, but it was getting warmer by the minute. She knew it had a time limit, but was not quite sure for how long. An info the broom maker somehow conveniently left out.
“Hmmm niho~ I think it’s time you two traded our your clover brooms for my witchy ones~ niho~ you’ll find that they handle the same buuut~ maybe a little zippier~? ~Niho~? ~They wouldn’t be a witch’s brooms otherwise~~~”
Seren was offering them her brooms? Genesis raised an eyebrow. She had been studying them in between their non-combat lapses, and they looked really cool. Of course, she would not admit it, nor show too much of her excitement, but nodded, accepting the offer without hesitation. “Merci. Thank you. And,” a sly wink, “I don’t mind being called that.” She would transfer onto her new ride, and put her broom away. She had a feeling she would need that later, when it was functional again.
Genesis pursed her lips at the knight’s words. She did have a point. Black clothes would be the color of the year for the town of Kikka...if there were anything left standing after this. She only knew how to shop for blades. For clothes? Functionality and comfort would be the top two primary reasons for her choice. As for style, what was that? This young woman had little sense for fashion, even less for decorum beyond common civility. Nonetheless, she supposed it would be fun to properly go shopping for clothes, for once.
“If black runs out, then I’m done for. Would I have to wear something...bright? Like...brown? Or green?” She gave a mock shudder, her tone clearly sarcastic. In truth, she just never really wore anything else besides black or anything dark-colored, really. She much preferred blending into the crowds and her shadows.
There was a shift in the air. She first noticed it in the Blue Rose knight’s body language before her ki picked it up. They were nearing the second well, and it seemed like they would not be alone. Ah, one of the daemon’s minions, the one who seemed to be responsible for the traps around the tomb. She kept a healthy distance from the daemon and the well, just enough for her darkened vision to confirm that he was indeed the one from before.
Slitted eyes flitted quickly between her two companions, taking note of their positions. Her lips were also pressed into a flat line, and the more relaxed behavior from a few seconds ago had disappeared completely. The shadow mage with the stone mask had returned, and this time, she would make sure her temper also stayed as still and cold as stone.
What was his name again? Ito? As much as she viewed him as the enemy, Genesis had to admire his cunning and devious mind. Friend or foe, she could learn from him. In addition, that shadowy aura he gave off was...alluring. Like called to like, after all. Her grimoire was already out and glowing, but she did not move to cast anything. Not yet. She also kept her mouth firmly clamped down, waiting for him to make the first move. She was ready to respond to whatever he threw at them, be it words or spells.
“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
Hans immediately went to work, utilizing his defensive spells. He positioned his barriers here and there, blocking any incoming debris while his black holes absorbed some others. He placed his spells in front of Gen and Seren at times when it appeared that something was heading their way. The dark mage remained focused throughout all of this, gesturing his hands here and there.
Finally the madness had stopped, and when the dust settled...the well was still there. Before Hans could grit his teeth in annoyance, he noticed that it actually suffered great damage. The witch's plan really did work! The man looked over to her, his face in near disbelief. Was she really as wise as she claimed to be?
The witch's broom golems then started to bend in ways one would not expect from a broom. At first, Hans was a bit distracted by the comical bending of these creations, but he quickly realized that they were being used to spell something out. Hans gave an understanding nod to the "Traps Gone" part, but squinted his eyes as she started to spell out Niho. "Was that...really necessary?" Hans questioned, but of course none of them would understand him unless they were really good at reading lips. She continued to use the brooms to give her message, and Hans was now looking back at the well.
A few more strikes should do it in. With another nod, Hans' grimoire flipped to another page. "Vulpes Corvum." A single raven made of darkness appeared by the man's shoulder. For the most part, the spell still looked the same, but it felt a tad bit more sinister than normal, or at least to Hans. Pointing at the well, the raven dove in right after Seren finished sending another barrage of spells! Once again, Hans' hands went to work, controlling his defensive spells to block anymore incoming objects that weren't taken down by the other two mages. He was almost like a composer, a really edgy one.
More dust formed, and once it settled....the well was finished. The malevolent mana that it had inside couldn't be felt anymore, and the trio's hearing returned to normal...or as normal as it could get currently. A sigh slipped out of the man's mouth. One well down. Hopefully the others were doing alright on their ends.
With that done, Hans followed the duo from behind on his broom with his defensive spells still out, one black hole and a barrier lingering around him as well as another set by the two women. "Hm?" He looked towards Gen before looking down at the broom he was standing on. "Now that you mention it, yeah." Not only that, but it felt like the broom was losing power too. Hans had never rid his for this long so he never took in consideration of this thing having a cooldown. "Guess we should've asked the old man more about these things." He claimed with a slight smirk. Joking aside, it looks like the group was going to have to start traveling on foot...Until Seren saved the day.
Hans traveled cautiously to one of the broom golems, and watched if for a few seconds. They look cool, but were also...weird. Then again they seem to suit Seren quite well. "Yeah, thanks." Hans said as he transferred to one of the golems and placed his broom on the holder on his back. Right now it felt no different, but Hans might have to keep on the lookout in case it starts getting all bendy again....
The two women appeared to be bonding a bit during the flight. Hans glanced over to them at times, but didn't want to intrude. He didn't really mind being the third wheel, mostly because he's not the best when it comes to socializing and usually never has anything interesting to add.
The trio were now approaching the next well, evident by that sinister mana again...but that wasn't all. There was another mana, a powerful one. Hans remembered feeling this back at the tomb...when Ito showed up. A light gasp escaped the man's lips as he placed a hand on the hilt of his sheathed sword, stopping around where the other two had stopped. Gritting his teeth, Hans glared over at the direction of that familiar mana, bracing himself.
Yeah... I felt something similar to what you just told me. It's a different feeling from the other ring that I'm wearing. All I can think about is that these rings increase our magical abilities, though to what extent is unknown." Charles replied to Valo seemingly having the same feeling that he just described. It was quite different and the only thing that came up to the young magic knight's head about what those rings able to do. What he imagined was that they were able to boost their magical abilities to have a chance against those Daemons. At least they made a good decision by bringing Nanami back to her mother if it wasn't thanks to her they wouldn't be where they are at the moment. [break][break] Eventually, the silver owl arrived at the Headquarters of the Purple Orcas and landed safely. They managed to avoid any traps on their way there which made things easier for them. For some odd reason, Charles felt like he knew the exact position of the traps and the location of the civilians in every building, it was something he had never felt before. He could only assume that Valo was having the same experience as he was. Once the owl landed Charles got off and looked around the place. The Headquarters seemed to have no moment and he didn't detect any people as he did with the building on their way to the base. Something definitely off. Taking a few steps forward to take a look at the area. The silver mage will then spot a dark-haired woman walked around something that appeared to be a well. [break][break] Charles looked closely at the woman who presented herself to Lilitu, Ito's sister. It was no surprise that she was here, they would've ended up encountering a Daemon sooner or later. "So you're Ito's sister, huh... He looked at her, she was certainly a Daemon by her looks and the magical energy she emitted was similar to Sven and Ito's so she was one without a doubt. Before the Black Bull said something he saw something strange, it felt like a dream. Which had how Lilitu defeated the two of them without any effort at all. For a moment he thought it was a dream, but it was the first time he ever felt something like that. Ever since he started wearing that ring he started to feel strange. Was it because of the ring and was he taking a look at a possible future where the two of them get defeated by her without achieving anything? The silver mage turned towards Valo, he assumed the Green Mantis saw the same thing. Trying to regain his composure after what he just saw he turned to Lilitu. "You're right, Lilitu..." The Black Bull had no option, but to agree with what she suggested. If they fought her right now they will fall achieving anything. Even though fighting her will mean they could get rid of two objectives. There was no point if it was in vain. Right now going to another well was the best option. He also found out that the wells were the source of energy of those two Daemons, which made sense. If they get rid of the rest of the wells they will much easier to deal with. "We don't have much of an option." He turned to Valo and hoped he will agree with what he just said. After what he just witnessed there was no way they could fight against her. [break][break] The silver mage walked back towards the transportation construct that was waiting for him and Valo. He expected Valo to come with him and head towards the other well. If those rings allowed them to see a glimpse of the future, they will be better off making good use of that ability to take down the wells. Charles didn't say anything, if the Daemon didn't know those rings gave them such abilities then it will be better off if it stays that way. The Black Bull hopped into the silver construct once again. "You saw it, right?" He questioned Valo as he got on top of the owl."Let's head somewhere else, we can't risk ourselves being defeated... At least not right now." If they were defeated at this moment all of their previous efforts would've been for nothing. Assuming Valo got into the construct. The silver owl will take off and head towards the direction of the next well. [break][break] Once they took down enough wells, assuming Hans, Seren and Genesis had already taken down one by now. Then it will mean that there will four wells remaining if they took down at least two more it should be enough to weaken the Daemons in order for them to match them in strength. "We should avoid fighting those servants and make good use of this ability for the time being. It should make it easier for us to destroy the wells. I believe they will be rigged with traps, so if we know how to exactly destroy the well and where the traps are located it should make the process easier for us than the rest. Buying us and the rest time. If everything goes as planned once they have been weakened we may a chance at fighting them." Charles said as they were making their way towards the next well. Right now those rings gave him and Valo a chance to win against them, they should not waste the opportunity they were given. Even if Valo was somewhat aggressive and didn't think about things like Charles did hopefully, the ability to see the future will allow him to be more reasonable about what he had in mind. Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Valo nodded when he heard Charle's response, it seemed the two wizard knights were having the same kind of feeling and response from the rings they just put on. Valo did feel somewhat stronger not by any leaps or bounds, but a decent amount and he figured it must come from these rings. An extra boost of strength wouldn't hurt at all with the situation they were in, Valo wouldn't mind it at all. Taking Nanami back home was the best call, and it seemed they got rewarded for it in the end.
Upon arrival Valo was focussed entirely on the front of the wizard knight base. What he sensed was vague, but he sensed something there something that they were going to have to face. Charles landed his creation, and Valo still had trouble making it out until he stood up, hopped off the silver owl and took a few steps forward. He saw it, a daemon taken the shape of a woman. She had long black hair and a deadpan look on her face, Valo's first instinct to attack started to kick in. If one was in front of them, they should take it down now with no hesitation. At least thats how Valo was brought up, if there was an enemy in front of him he would face it without question and without hesitation. And if he failed, he failed at least he failed giving it his all. But things were different now.
Valo couldn't approach situations like that anymore, being blindly aggressive would not only get oneself killed but also others. Valo took a few steps forward, and stopped himself staring at the Daemon. He wanted to strike first so badly, he clenched his fists hard. Knowing that what the daemon said was true, right now they stood no chance against her and it was best to move on. "Tch." the fire mage sucked his teeth and went back to the silver owl.
"Yeah I saw it." he replied to Charles question, assuming he was talking about the vision they both got of their immediate failure facing the daemon. Valo crossed his arms the look of pure anger all over his face, he took a deep breath to relax himself. "Ive never ran from a fight before... But if we would stayed and fought, we would have died and failed Kikka. That's...more important." Valo agreed with Charles on their decision. It may have hurt his pride a little, but it was a small price to pay for the success of the mission. "But we will beat them, we have to."
Valo sat calming himself down, and focused on the next goal. "We should go to the mayor's estate, its not a long ride going north." Valo said to head to their next well. But he did have another thought on his mind. "What makes it weird is, why tell us we would die and let us leave? That was a perfect opportunity to finish us right there, but she didn't? These Daemons...they are not easy to figure out." Valo said to Charles as they headed to the next well. Valo's golems still active doing the exact thing as before, flying ahead to hopefully let the duo know of any traps.
Sven watched as the vice-captain lifted her hand and spoke about him keeping his word and the honour he and his children had, that he should prove it. He put his right elbow into the palm of his left hand and tapped his bottom lip as if deep in thought contemplating her words. "Last I checked, I've kept my word. The children were taken to be treated, the hospital is a completely safe area until those children are healed and I have not harmed anyone that has remained inside their homes." he said looking to the left as if he was trying to figure out if there was anything he had missed "I also said one of the children wouldn't be harmed by us and we've also lived up to that, her harm is on your hands." he said smiling "Although, Ito was a bit mischievous on that trap..." she sighed shaking his head "but boys will be boys after all." he said with a small chuckle. It was then she spoke about how they had gone on about being honourable which they had been or the weaker of the group would have already been dead but he had to admit she was correct, defeating an enemy with a handicap would be beneath him and the two children he had brought with him. "You are correct on that." He looked at the bracelet and put his hand out making it fade from her wrist appearing on his own, Artemis, however, would notice a strange marking made of shadow on her wrist "Those who make a deal with a daemon are often marked by them until their soul is snuffed out." he said with a smile. "Lets up the ante, I win you serve me until the end of your life and if you win what do you want?" he asked wanting that thrill of the game, once she had given her terms he would agree and get ready for the fight to come.
~~~~~~~~~
Seren, Hans, Genesis:
The first strike had hit dead on its target and triggered all three spells leaving a crater around the size of an intermediate aoe spell and around ten feet deep it would have been far worse if the group hadn't put defensive measures into place but the well had still survived but it was leaking what looked like shadowed pure aura from its cracks. The deafening silence had been lifted but it would seem in the beginning no one realised as Seren had started signing what she wanted the others to know. After the next bombardment of spells from the group the well had seemingly folded in on itself and where it was sat collapsed into the hole. Both Genesis and Hans would notice that their brooms were getting warmer that meant that they would require time to cool down soon which was a bad thing given that time was ticking down steadily and it wasn't in their favours. Seren had offered them a broom golem to compensate and with a quick change between their brooms and the golems they were on their way towards the well in the centre of town. Within forty meters Seren would feel the familiar mana from the daemon they met within the graveyard, then within twenty-five meters, Genesis would feel it when they landed it was when they all saw him. Ito was sat cross-legged on the well with a cup of tea in one hand, a book in his other hand with some sort of cake sitting beside him, he was fully aware that they were there but paid them no mind to him they were below him.
"I see you're still remodelling Kikka." he finally commented before taking a sip of his tea while having his tail turn the page of the book he was reading. His eyes moved above the book a little to look at the group "For the good guys you have landscaped a lot more than we have. Are you sure you aren't the evils here?" he sighed shaking his head going back to his book "I'll never understand mortals need for destruction. I can understand ours... well... for the most part." he stopped putting his book down as he looked like he was pondering something "It is in our natures to do what we do, we are the big bad daemons after all and we actually get quite bored in our immortalities." he rolled his eyes as he spoke sarcastically but sounded somewhat saddened when it came to the last part "But we do like you all have different personality quirks, my lord has a sense of honour and raised my sister and myself the same way so we must wait before we can fight if that is what you are wishing to do." he said taking another sip of his tea "So, while we wait, I want you to help me learn." he said tilting his head "Why do fragile beings such as yourselves that have a limited amount of life within this existence fight amongst yourselves?" It was clear he genuinely wanted to know this "Oh and I wouldn't even think about fighting me right now because I would take out all three of you, we aren't on the same level... not yet anyway." he warned them
~~~~~~~~~
Valo and Charles:
It was clear to the daemonic woman sitting on the well that the thought of attacking her crossed the pair's mind, she hadn't made a single move to brace herself if that was what was about to happen. She watched them silently as they talked amongst themselves "Yes, I am aware I am right." she stated softly almost cooing at Charles as she replied to him. "You have both made a very wise choice in not attacking me at current." she praised them for their wisdom and intelligence however she did take note about how they had apparently both seen the same thing but said nothing about it. "I take little pleasure when it comes to killing bugs, they truly are unworthy of entering my graveyard but you both have greater potential than those lowly pests so I am willing to wait a little longer for our encounter." she said with a gentle smile, she waved as they moved onto the silver eagle "I will await my two princes return, I give my word I will not exit this base and will deactivate any of my traps along the way to your next destination. I can't say my brother will do the same." she said calmly her hand glowing a purple as she raised it, though still dripping in darkness it would almost feel warm to the pair. She waved a little as they left the base going towards the next well.
The journey was a little easier but there were a few close calls on triggering traps but all they had done was slowed the construct down with tendrils of shadow and blinded the pair for a short time making them almost fly into a building. When they did eventually make it back to the well they would see six purple seals but they all shattered with the same warmth that they had felt from Lilitu when she raised her hand in the Purple Orca base. Thought the traps were gone the danger wasn't as six of the enemies from within the mana zone encroached on their positions quickly each attempting to slash at the pair with their sharpened claws.
Story:
Artemis has managed to get the bracelet off and regained her entire sensory and ki back but on her wrist has been left a mark showing that an agreement had been created with him. He has agreed to the fight but is wanting to up the ante, he has stated that if he wins he wishes Artemis to serve him until the end of her life and has even allowed her to put her own stipulation into the ante after all fair is fair. The group of Hans, Genesis and Seren have destroyed their well and made it to the centre of town without much issue only to be met with what seems to be Ito having some quiet time sitting on the well having a cup of tea while reading a book of philosophy that he had gotten from the nearby library. He mocked the group a little before asking a question he would like them to answer as they wait for something to happen and has even warned that at current if they attacked him they wouldn't stand a chance. Lilitu watched as Charles and Valo made a decision to leave and swore she would remain within the base but more than that she said she would deactivate her traps along the way, surprisingly she did and even the traps she set on the well she deactivated however they weren't out of danger as six shadow mana beasts seem to run out of the shadows and towards the two men without warning.
Genesis Fantôme
La Poste
As they neared the center of town and the second well, the ki user picked up on the now-familiar mana signature, though she did not see the owner until they landed. Truth be told, Genesis had to admire his poised and nonchalant behavior. What kind of daemon would be so at ease in the middle of war, enjoying a book with tea and cake? Then again, they had the upper hand, which might explain why he was so chill about it all. Maybe this was all a show to throw them off. Seeing his devious antics from earlier, she would not doubt if that was the case.
At first, the daemon did not acknowledge their presence, and simply continued to read. Her eyes narrowed. He was taking it all so lightly, and that irked her. The daemons all seemed to find pleasure in others’ pain, at no expense to their own. But she held her tongue, and used this time to study their enemy. If he was not on the other side, she would have paid him a compliment or two on his devilishly good looks—after she kicked his butt. She also wondered if that tail of his gave him any advantage. Balance, perhaps? Like a squirrel? Or a cat? But with its pointy tip, it could also serve as a weapon. She would need to watch out for that as well.
Finally he was speaking, taunting them about their destructive landscaping. Well, she was not without blame, but it still galled at her. Calm down, Gen. Then he was talking about how they can get bored with their immortal lives. That explains a lot. Immortality could drive anyone insane. To her, living without age is more of a curse than a blessing, and honestly, she felt a pang of pity for him.
It was strange how Ito said they liked their personality quirks. Very strange. Like how she liked his cunning yet collective demeanor. Honor? A twisted sense of honor, but honor nonetheless. She had to wonder what kind of training daemons have to go through. Was taking over a city like a mission of sorts? So they could rank up and get a promotion, like with the Magic Knights system? She could only speculate.
"So, while we wait, I want you to help me learn."
Learn what? Didn’t daemons have centuries of time to read and learn whatever they want? Perhaps a better question was if there was anything they did not know? She glanced over at the book, angling her head in an odd position so she could see what the title was. Something about humans...and war...and philosophy. Not surprising. It fit the situation.
"Why do fragile beings such as yourselves that have a limited amount of life within this existence fight amongst yourselves?" Then he added a warning of how he could easily take the three of them out.
Gen almost snorted, but caught it just in time. She was not going to attack—yet. What was it that he had said before? "Shadow and darkness were not as fast as light is just as tricky as it if not more so. Don't always trust your senses, question everything and don't jump in blind if you want to survive." With that in mind, she bit down on her tongue. Despite everything she wanted to do, it would be more prudent if she humored him. Might as well, it was not like they had anything better to do, and he did seem sincere in his question.
“What’s life without fighting?” A shrug. She was being completely honest. “I fight to survive. That’s it. Not everyone gets to grow up with a sister and a master to teach you the daemon ways.” It was an almost bitter statement, but she had no qualms on showing that. Then she waved a hand at the book in his hands. “But what does that say?”
Assuming that her companions would also give their own answers to his question, she would wait and listen. Hopefully they had more honorable answers and ideals than her. It was almost pathetic that she had such a wretched background, yet if anyone ever asked about it, she never made a show of hiding the facts. She has learned that she could only rely on herself...and those whom she has fought alongside of and have earned her respect. Her perspective on the world was fairly close-minded, but she did not know that, nor had anyone to correct her.
After their exchange, Gen would speak up again. “So, if you would be so kind, mister Ito,” her tone was of the utmost degree of polite civility, yet bland and dispassionate, “how do we kill you?”
From what she had seen so far, she doubted he would be angered by her direct question. If anything, she would guess that he finds it extremely amusing and hilarious. He wanted answers, so did she. Whether he chose to answer was a different story, but here was the opportunity. Daemons who have lived for centuries must be weary of repetition. In a way, perhaps they could offer him a service, to end his life of boredom, as he had mentioned earlier. Nonetheless, in case she triggered a sensitive spot, her grimoire was out and ready, glowing but not yet in action.
There was something else as well that she wanted to know. Something dreadfully important. She had noticed it when she was studying him earlier. “Also, nice boots,” she commented, waving at hand at the general direction of his footwear. “Where can I get a pair like that?”
Notes & Stuff
Summary: Arrived at second well, starts conversation with Ito
“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
"Greed, and power." Is what Hans said right after the shadow mage finished talking. "That's usually the driving force behind fights...and wars." There wasn't much else Hans could add to this. He decided to stay quiet, and carefully watch the Daemon. His black hole spell remained by his shoulder while his other black hole and two barriers were around the other two mages' general direction.
[break][break] "If we got beat during that moment then all of our efforts would've been for nothing. Everyone's lives are at stake right now." Charles replied to Valo, feeling glad that the two at least were on the same page in what needed to be done. Valo seemed to have a lot of pride and someone who will rarely run away from a fight, but right now ensuring that they're still alive to destroy the rest of the wells was the important part. The two will eventually come back to see Lilitu and finish her off. "Yeah, makes sense. I remember Ito telling us that they wanted to fight us to the point that both sides had an equal opportunity. I assume to make the battle more interesting? Not sure, these Daemons are strange..." The Black Bull had a hard time trying to comprehend why will they give them a chance to defeat them which could cost them a lot? In his case, he wouldn't do that. The silver mage then nodded, the silver owl made its direction towards the place Valo mentioned. [break][break] Most of the place seemed to clear of traps, it was likely Lilitu had something to do with it. As they made their way to the next one of the traps gets triggered damage the construct and slowing it down. Charles then gets blinded by the trap which makes him lose control of the construct for a brief moment which almost resulted in the two Magic Knights crashing into a building. "Shit, that was close." The Black Bull said as he regained control of the construct, but this peace wouldn't last long as a pair of mana beasts attacked him. His right arm got slashed by one of the mana beasts, the silver mage had no room to dodge due to their limited space and unexpected attacks. It seemed like getting to the well was going to be harder than they thought. The two of them didn't have enough room to fight, so Charles landed the silver owl on a nearby roof to try and give themselves a better room to fight those mana beasts. They were at an extreme disadvantage especially with that many beasts attacking the two magic knights at once. "Get out, hopefully here we should have more space for the time being." He said as the silver construct landed on the roof and he got out of it. The clock was ticking, but they needed to be smart about defeating those enemies. [break][break] Charles's grimoire came alight and created a spear out of silver. Aiming at one of the mana beasts on the sky and throwing it at one of them. Hopefully, the AoE damage will be done in the case of not dealing with any significant damage to the buildings nearby. Though after he did the silver mage will feel something off, something unexpected, but he didn't know if that feeling came from the ring itself or from any nearby mana zone he and Valo may find themselves in.
Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
As the pair of magic knights flew to the next well, Valo was left pondering on the daemon's words. Not only did she let them leave to go destroy another well, but she deactivated her traps that were on the way there. Also promising to stay right where she was until they returned, it was obvious she was extremely confident. Valo was looking out in the distance to his left, mostly seeing blurs and shadows his vision still nearly cut in half. The odds were certainly against them, but giving up was not an option. Valo wasn't the type to sulk for long, if not at all but since this all started there are certain emotions one just cannot control. He has seen old friends running for their lives, trying to get to safety. Other friends under traps and placed in the center of danger, others now dead. Valo clenched his fist hard, he has been angry for a while now and it has yet to subdue. It was in his nature to use his anger to push forward, and that is exactly what he was going to do.
The fire mage kept his fire bird golem spell active though he didn't need them to scope out traps, they still had their uses. For a moment Charles lost control of his silver owl, things were going way to smoothly so it made sense they would hit a rut. They would crash into a building, Valo keeping his golems nearby would somersault and have one of his golems catch him in midair to glide down to a nearby roof safely. But they were given no time to recover as a group of shadow mana beast started attacking them, up on the roof of the building. Space was limited but they would have to make the most out of it, Valo grimoire would glow its red orange hue. "Fureaakuseru V 2." he stated the name of the spell that double his speed. The fire mage started to run on top of the roof giving him and Charles some space luckily it was a large roof, some of the shadow mana beasts giving him chase. But with his increased speed gaining some distance wasn't hard, avoiding a shadow mana beasts attack Valo flipped off the roof to ground level using his golems to catch him again and bring him down easy.
But as soon as he landed Valo kept on the move, dashing towards one of the weaker looking mana beast he swayed to his right avoiding an attack. Once close enough Valo would hit it with an uppercut like punch with his right hand, which led to a straight punch with his left. Hopefully doing enough damage to take it out, using his mana tether he called his golems to his side. It was harder to see than normal, so he wanted to use his golems to defend him if need be so they flew in a circle around him. But all attacks seemed to stop, it was odd they were in the middle of heated battle. Something definitely felt off in the air. "Tch. What the hell?"
It had happened, after a short but heated battle Artemis had fallen to Sven, he had taken a long time to gloat over the unconscious woman body, how easy it would be to kill her but then again there would be little glory or honour to kill a person that couldn't even defend themselves. "Pathetic..." he grumbled flicking his hands and binding her for the moment as he moved back to his current throne to think about how to proceed as this wasn't something he had expected if he was honest with himself. He rested back on his chair and tapped his cheek as he continued to think, he knew only one well was destroyed, neither of his children had been killed and the group as they were weren't any threat to the trio. This all but ended his fun and so he would need to change the game if he wished to continue it.
Hans, Seren, Genesis:
Ito continued to sit on the well and took another sip of his tea as he listened to the pair who had answered his question noticing that the witch had been uncharacteristically quiet not that he was complaining on the fact. "Life without fighting is serene and calm." he answered with a soft tone to the red-headed mage. He then covered his mouth with his book as he attempted to stifle a chuckle "Aww, you grew up alone, miserable and picked on for being different...." he said in a mocking tone rolling his eyes "Oh woest me." he continued "The pity party doesn't suit someone like you." he put the book down and stood up walking over to her, by his poise and mannerisms it was clear he wasn't going to attack the other "Yes, fighting does bring strength but it is knowing how and when to use that strength that matters and not all strength begins or ends in fighting." he growled lowly towards her before he moved to sit back down again. "Yes, I was raised alongside my twin sister by my father but as daemons, we fight if we want to survive because there is always someone there ready to kill you and that includes your own parents, siblings and friends if they believe they will get just a little further in their own goals. Only the strongest and most cunning survive to have long lives because from the moment you are born you are a target." he said clenching at the well just a little "So the pathetic excuse of "I fight to survive" isn't just a you thing and I guarantee you have never had it as bad as some people so get over yourself." his tone was as cold as the deepest darkness as he spoke those words. "Try being a daemon for a day then you will see just how hard they fight for survival and see how your own 'fight for survival' means little in comparison." he sighed shaking his head "Self-deluded mortals." he stated to what Hans had said.
It was then he turned his head towards the shadows as if listening to something and nodded as if being given instructions "It would seem as if your leader has been defeated, my suggestion would be to leave and come back with reinforcements as it stands you are in no way strong enough to defeat us sadly." he informed the group it was now the witch had chimed in "The situation has changed~ niho~" she went quiet as if she had confirmed something "~Where we are is not where we should be~ niho~ different board different rules~ let's go niho~ there isn't much time~~~~~~ find the others and get out~ as an acting magic knight~ I promise to try and ensure your safety~ niho~ go~ I'm right behind you~" Seren grimaced knowing that the words Ito had spoken were true. "~I've lost contact with Ar-Ar~niho~" her voice seemed slightly panicked "You are being given safe passage out of Kikka by my master I would take it while he is feeling benevolent." he said moving his hand forward allowing them to walk through it "As for my boots, you defeat me and I will give you a pair myself but I will not tell you how to defeat me." when they did they would find themselves outside Kikka safely.
~~~~~~~~~
Valo and Charles:
As quickly as they were attacked they had stopped and on the ground stood Lilitu "Your leader has been defeated by my lord, you are to be given safe passage from Kikka so that stronger more worthy opponents might come and fight us." she said her voice gentle and saddened. "I am sorry that it has ended like this and in time I hope to welcome you to my graveyard." she said raising her hand a purple like portal appearing in front of them "Until we meet again my sweet princes." she said allowing them to exit out of Kikka safely.
[Group has exited.]
Story:
With Artemis falling the group has no chance of winning and the three daemon know this and so have given the group a get out of Kikka free card so they might notify their superiors of the goings-on and come back with a stronger. The group has managed to blow up one well, done a bunch of property damage, save a child and overall protected the people of Kikka from the threat for now.
