It has been several months since the blue-haired elf first crossed the threshold of the Crimson Lions headquarters. Much has changed since then. The shy and timid girl who did not know what she was doing had turned into a more determined young woman. Her skills did not improve overnight, nor would that ever happen, but there was progress. Small steps of progress, but they were there. Not only has her magic been strengthened, but something else had also shifted—the sound mage had become more confident, more forward, more in tune with her surroundings.
The said mage was now in the fortress’ courtyard, running laps. She had quickly learned that if her physical condition was not in good form or health, she would become dead weight once she burns out. That would be extremely deadly in a fight, and was not something she wanted. Also, she was set for a training session with the vice captain today, and wanted to make sure she was properly warmed up for it. This training session was slightly different this time. She had expressed interest in learning the sword, and the vice captain had been kind enough to oblige her request.
Truthfully, the elf had another motive for learning how to wield the sword, and that particular inspiration had been a certain dark mercenary. He was the primary reason why she had recently been working on a spell for a sword. She had succeeded, but was completely unskilled at wielding it. Of course, she could hold it and wave it around, but there was so much more to it then that. What better person to ask than someone she knows well and has been learning from?
She had also figured it would be a good idea for her to learn something she can use in melee fights. So far, she had been pretty lucky with her comrades in battle, with her supporting them from the back while they fought in the frontlines. However, it would not always be the case, and she wanted to be prepared for it. There was no knowing when she might be caught in a situation when she cannot use her musical instruments. Best to be prepared, regardless.
Suna slowed to a stop, for she had caught sight of a pink-haired figure on the other side of the courtyard. She jogged over, her eyes alight with excitement at the day’s prospective training. "Good morning, vice captain!" Using the back of her hand, she brushed away the slight sheen of sweat from her forehead, and tucked a strand of her long blue hair behind an ear.
"Did the captain give you more paperwork to do yesterday?" She knew how hard the female mage worked, running around on missions and errands while still going through the paperwork like the responsible leader she was. Honestly, the blue-haired elf had yet to meet the actual squad captain, but it did not matter. All she knew was that Lydia was a busy woman who still made time for her, and she was grateful for that.
[attr="class","florencetext"] It had been a few days since Lydia had gotten back from her trip to Atlantis. The first day back was mainly spent resting from the exhaustion as she while she was able to heal her wonds her magic wasn't able to give her back all the energy she used up. If one was to look at the glass mage it would be hard to tell she had just got back from perhaps the most dangerous few days of her life as her magic healed all the injuries she got. Well almost all of them she still had a scar on her left hip not that anyone was able to see it thanks to the clothing she wore. After recovering most of her time was spent on catching up on paperwork as it seemed Ardere still hadn't fixed the habit of doing his own while she was gone. Honestly she didn't expect the man to ever break it but it would have been nice. Claire had done her best to help out with the paperwork while Lydia was gone but the women could only do so much by herself which the vice captain understood. [break][break] Today however wasn't going to be another boring day of paperwork for the pink haired mage. Lydia's pupil Suna had shown interest in learning how to use a blade and the glass mage had offered to teach her how to use one after all Lydia would have been a horrible teacher not to. The blue haired elf's growth both in magically and as a person hadn't gone unnoticed by the older women. Sure it had been slow but not everyone was a gifted golden dawn mage. It seemed the sound mage hadn't noticed Lydia just yet as she was still running so Lydia would sit down for a moment looking over her new sword that once belonged to the king of Atlantis. The blade itself was surprisingly light and easy to hold however unlike most great swords Lydia couldn't wear it on her back. As she was a good foot and half shorter than the massive seven foot long sword. She figured her training with Suna would he a good time to use the sword. While she knew how deadly it was in the kings hands she still had a lot of bonding with the blade until it was at that point. [break][break] Lydia would look up as the blue haired elf made her way over to Lydia asking a question after saying good morning to her. Lydia would quickly stand up resting Tyrflng on her shoulder. Good morning Suna and yes it seems like the captain always has more paperwork for me to do. However Claire is taking care of it for me so we can focus on yout training. Lydia would take a few steps back. now let's see what you can do with that blade of your.

The blue-haired citizen nodded when the vice captain acknowledged her morning greeting, and pursed her lips in sympathy when her guesses on the paperwork was confirmed. She doubted that the other woman wanted to talk about paperwork, though. Neither did she. They had more important things to talk about. And do.
"Now let's see what you can do with that blade of yours."
"Not much, really," she said honestly. She was not even sure if she was holding it correctly. All she knew was from watching others and attempting to mimic their positions and sword holds. She had watched some of the other Crimson Lion trainees work on their swords, and tried to commit those actions to memory. Then she would practice by herself in the forest, starting with just getting comfortable holding it.
At first, her wrists and arms were not used to it, and grew tired quickly. However, she grew more familiar with it after a week of carrying and twirling it around. It certainly made a strange sight, an elf walking through the woods and casually holding and swinging it around. After that, she had tried replicating some of the fighting stances she has seen in the Magic Knight training grounds. But that was pretty much the extent of her rudimentary skills.
Walking towards the middle of the courtyard, she made sure they had plenty of space around them. They would need it, seeing how long and big Lydia’s greatsword was. Speaking of which, it was an unusual but fascinating work of art. She was not sure how the glass mage received it, but it was a terrible beauty. Long, sharp, and beautiful. It was intriguing, but she could feel a stormy presence from the sword. But other than that, she could not sense what else it could do besides its usual physical damage. Since the last time they trained, she had worked more on her senses, and could tell that the weapon Lydia held was no ordinary sword. But then again, there was nothing ordinary about the pink-haired elf.
Suna rolled her shoulders. After these training sessions with the Crimson Lion knight, she knew the woman liked to get straight to business. With that, the younger elf formed Cadenza from her pure aura, and her rapier appeared in her right hand. Now as she held it out in comparison to the other’s weapon, it looked terribly small and fragile—it was like a toothpick against a metal rod. She dropped to a fighter’s stance, left foot forward and her knees slightly bent. Both hands were holding onto the hilt, held down near her waist and with the blade pointing forward and up.
Suna was not really sure what to do, so she waited. If Lydia made a move on the offensive, she would attempt to parry and block it. If the greatsword swung too close for comfort, she would jump back out of the way. If Lydia also dropped into a defensive position, she would strike forward in a small arc and jump back. She could not beat against the other’s blade length, nor in terms of sheer power, but she wanted to see if she could figure out what kind of swordplay pattern the other mage did.

[attr="class","florencetext"]Lydia would nod at the younger mages statement. Lydia wasn't surprise Suna didn't have that much skill with a sword. The pink haired mage was actually surprised when the sound mage asked Lydia to help her learn how to use one. She was also confused on where the other mages sword was. Well until Suna cast her spell that formed a rapier before taking a battle stance. The stance itself wasn't bad the blue haired elf was just using the wrong type of blade for that stance one that she more than likely learned from watching another lion train with a blade. Lydia wouldn't make a move to take a stance or anything but she would take her own sword off her shoulder. [break][break] Oh so it's a magic sword well in the case you won't mind if I use a spell of my own. Lydia wouldn't wait for a response instead she would take the greatsword into both her hands. Sky Splitter Lydia would then slash the sword towards the blue haired elf sending a wave of Water, Lightning, and wind towards Suna. If the spell managed to hit it would deal junior damage as well as knock Suna back twenty five meters. You're stance is wrong you don't take that stance unless using a longsword or greatsword. Here try this one instead. Lydia would then hold the greatsword out in front of her pointed towards Suna while her free hand stayed close to the blade. Lydia would then place her left foot slightly behind her right foot. This stance with let you defend by parrying with the blade or your hand however only use your hand if the other person is using a thrusting weapon like you own. If you try using your hand against my blade you'll lose it. Lydia would then take her own stance in fact it was the one Suna was using before Lydia taught her a new one.

[attr="class","ardereescroll"]Smoke swirled through the hot air, escaping the maw of the Crimson Lion Captain and being unleashed into the world. As the flame of the cigarette he wielded between his fingers reached an ultimate end, the remaining part was henceforth tossed to the wind. Ardere sat on the roof of the Squad Base as he often did, staring out into the Capital and forward unto the sky. It was a beautiful day after all--why not enjoy the scenery? Things had been different since the Shatter, but never the endless blue above their heads. No matter how dark the world became, filled with despair and havoc, the sky still managed to prove its beauty. This could be said about the Kingdom of Clover itself. Years of war and casualties, yet they still stood strong. Ardere wished this was something he could always say about himself, but the truth was he had been broken before. Now the fear of breaking again forever stained his heart and his mind. [break][break] His father once said "Scars may never fully heal, but that doesn't mean we can't continue to live with them. Scars are a reminder that you have grown." Even so as the words of his late father rang throughout his ears like a church bell, Ardere felt a slight ping inside. The warmth of Salamander in his body helped keep him strong, striving to stay on a righteous path if at all possible. But even now he would often dwell on his own destiny. If asked many years ago he would've said that one makes their own fate, but now he believed the truth was somewhere between his current feeling and that older belief. Things were so rarely black and white, but often dealing in shades of grey. [break][break] Lost in thought, the fire mage found solace in the peace of the Crimson Lion base. Standing up with a smile plastered across his face, there was strength and joy in his heart. This was perhaps the one place that brought forth such warm feelings inside--his home. This was where he had truly grown and found love after such a loss, and there was hope here. Hope inside of his squad members, even if some of them had a long way to go. That being said, he went to check on how the squad members were doing. A familiar ki caused a tingle to crawl across his spine. Lydia was nearby. A smirk crossed the Kasai's lips as he leaped back down into the base and onto the railings of the upstairs hall, peering down into the courtyard. Sure enough Lydia stood there alongside another squad member he believed was named...Suna? She had joined during a time in which he was slacking on getting to know all the new members, but since the Captain's return from the Mirage Desert, he had been closer to his former self. Things had changed. Amber eyes fixed on the two training, he found himself unable to retreat. [break][break] Calling out from the floor above them, the Captain was leaning across the railing. Doing some sword training are we? Ripping an junior ranked sword out from his grimoire, the flames sparked and scattered across the stone of the base. Leaping down from the second floor into the courtyard, he twirled the sword between his fingers before catching it. I hope you don't mind if I join you? The tall, titanic man stood about a dozen meters away from them on the other side of the courtyard with an eager look about him. Even at such a low rank, the flames shone brightly from his sword. The presence and mana exuding from the fire mage was unsurprisingly powerful. He was excited.
Azure eyes widened when the vice captain brought her sword down and unleashed a sudden storm. Suna barely managed to lift her sword up, tip up towards the sky and slightly angled, to block the spell from hitting her in the face. In that one move, there was the flood of water, the strike of lightning, and the rush of wind. Being the sound mage she was, her ears picked up on those three different sounds. It had come all at once, and it threw her off. Literally. She may have blocked the spell, but the force of it threw her back twenty five meters.
She jogged back to the vice captain, eyes alight with curiosity. "Wa, was that three elements all at once?" The observant nerd in her was brought to life. "Can I study it later?" Water, lightning, wind. The perfect storm. Now, if there was also thunder in that mix, it would have completed the ultimate monsoon package.
Then the vice captain was showing her how to properly hold the defensive position. So Suna had been copying and practicing the wrong things, at least on her current type of sword. At least she could be corrected now. The blue-haired femme nodded and copied her movements—right foot forward, her blade held straight in front of her, and her left hand hovering close to the handle. But then Lydia adopted the stance that she was just holding before.
Use the hand, Lydia had said. As opposed to using her whole body? Perhaps she should have asked the vice captain what kind of sword was best suited for her before she made this spell. At least she now knew her rapier-like sword is better suited for thrusting than actual hacking. She had also said that if she went against her blade she would lose her hand. "And avoid the blade." She murmured to herself. "Got it."
With that in mind, Suna jumped forward and flicked her wrist down and up around, aiming to slash horizontally from the top right to bottom left, before bringing it back up and cutting across from left to right. It was in one fluid movement, almost like a triangle before she jumped back. This would bring her back to her original position, with the tip again pointing at the other mage. With that attack, she had attempted to avoid coming in contact with the greatsword, going around it instead of against it. However, her slim blade could probably be broken with a single blow from Lydia’s sheer power.
Then Suna felt a powerful mana presence join their fray. She turned to look, and saw a tall man jump down from the second floor onto the other side of the courtyard. He radiated confidence, and she saw the flash of fire in his hand. Ah, so he was a fire mage, just like a certain Green Mantis knight she met before. She may not have seen the Crimson Lion captain before, but she knew enough to know who he was. The elf should not have been too surprised, but she still was.
"Captain Ardere Kasai." She immediately relaxed her stance and lowered her sword, dipping her head in respectful courtesy. However, her eyebrows shot off her forehead when he said he wanted to join them. "J-Join us?" She echoed. Suna had barely started getting used to being in the presence of the vice captain, and now the captain himself had showed up? At this moment, if Lydia chose to come in for her during her momentary diversion, the sound mage would no doubt receive the full brunt of an attack or incoming spell...

[attr="class","florencetext"]Lydia watched as Suna's eyes widened at the spell the vice captain used. She was able to understand why after all it wasn't everyday someone saw three elements at once. Storm magic was rare perhaps even more so than Lydia's own light magic. The sound mage managed to block Lydia's spell with her own but it seemed that the force of the spell was strong enough to knock the other elf back twenty five meters. Suna would quickly jog back to Lydia letting down her guard to ask a question about the spell. If Lydia wanted to she could have used this moment to get a free attack on the mage. The vice captain however would let it slide this time however she wouldn't be so lucky next time after all it was a bad habit. [break][break] Lydia watched as Suna took the new stance Lydia taught her while speaking to herself before trying to attack Lydia once again trying to slash instead of stab. The pink haired mage would easily dodge the three slash with her own speed. Lydia would then slash at the sound mages side with her own sword. While this was going on Lydia was able to sense the mana of someone familiar. After it was her captain she had served under him for ten years now so she'd recognize his mana anyway. She knew he would be arriving soon. That's when Suna made her first big mistake of the day. At least the first one Lydia was going to use against her. [break][break] As the blue haired elves guard dropped Lydia would rush forward lighting crackling around her body from her relics perk berserkers rage activating increase her damage by a junior tier. She would then try and kick Suna's legs out from underneath her launching the smaller mage into the air a bit. Lydia would then follow up by taking her sword into both hands and slamming the blade of the blade into the other rooms side sending her crashing back to the ground. Never let your guard down when fighting another person. If this was a real fight I could have just killed you right then. Lydia of course hadn't let her guard down incase the captain chose to launch his own attack. Assuming he was still in the same spot Lydia would turn to face him while keeping an eye on Suna's mana. [break][break] I had a feeling you were going to ask that. I don't see why not. Without warning Lydia would slash the air using skysplitter once again. Lydia knew the spell more than likely wouldn't hit the captain it was more so to show the vice captain was actually serious.

[attr="class","ardereescroll"]A smirk crossed the pale lips of the Crimson King as he was allowed entry into their sparring match. It was not often he was able to practice with his members, so perhaps it had been long overdue. Lydia however was holding back no cards as she immediately went for an attack towards her Captain and friend. Ardere had to admit he was not surprised, but he had no doubt Suna would find it somewhat shocking. The animosity between the two was founded in a fully formed friendship and mutual respect between one another. To put it simply; Ard knew Lydia was strong and she knew he was strong, thus there was no reason to hold back. Pivoting a foot, the fire mage entered a battle stance. The sparring would soon begin, but first he wanted to have a bit of fun. [break][break] Not many mages dwelled in the halls today, most out on missions or taking some time to relax. But those that did stick around would bear witness to a very quick yet effective maneuver from their Captain. As he pivoted, he sliced through the attack sent his way. The sheer power from both the spell sent his way and his own sword were too evenly matched, so they shattered. Two equally powerful spells canceling one another out was not unheard of, but it was quite the common occurrence between two mages of such high standing. As such, the fire mage used the cover of his opponent's attack to duck low just as the cancelation happened. Ripping two swords from his grimoire, Ardere struck low at the knight's legs. Keeping his eyes on her, he was ready to kick off of the ground and parry if she went in for a counter strike. While fisticuffs may be his specialty, he never missed a sword lesson growing up. [break][break] Lydia had a few options, but he wondered which she would choose. If she went for his head, which was the obvious opening he had left her, he'd simply leap into the air and perform and spiral slash to parry. But if she leaped into the air and maneuvered over him, things would be far more interesting. There's the thing about combat Suna. You can track your enemies movements and prepare for every possible move, right up until they make said move. Until then, you're never truly prepared for what comes next. Anticipation is the game, but reaction is the true strategy. He had spent years honing his skills and his body to react perfectly to whatever attack came his way. Ardere was a man of instincts. Even after all the years of training and studying, he still relied on that simple factor--it had never really let him down. Instincts were his guide, but he still had a lot to learn even at his age. So how are you going to counter attack, Lydia? He wondered, an almost devilish smile aimed at perhaps his closest friend. This was the heat in their training.
Suna barely dodged the slash that Lydia served, and that was only because she was expecting a counter attack. A split second late and her side would be sliced right through. The glass mage was faster, and her weapon had a further reach. She would have to figure out another strategy if she was even to get close enough to attempt a poke at her opponent.
Then the blue-haired elf let her guard down when the newcomer arrived at the scene. Of course her natural instinct was to acknowledge the captain and give him proper respect, but that was apparently a mistake. Lydia did not waste that opening, and came in immediately by kicking her legs from beneath her, then crashed her blade down on Suna’s side, slicing her straight through.
The sudden attack knocked the breath from her lungs, and left the sound mage gasping on her back on the ground. Not only that, her side stung and burned like a million needles had gone through them, and she glanced down to see blood spilling out from her side to the sandy ground. At least the sand had kind of cushioned her fall, but it had happened so fast, in the blink of an eye.
"Never let your guard down when fighting another person. If this was a real fight I could have just killed you right then."
Suna only nodded, wincing in pain as she sat up. Bad idea. Her hands flew to cover the deep slash, but the blood was not stopping. She took a shaky breath and activated Sapphire Heart. She rarely used her healing magic on herself...if ever. But if she was to continue, she would have to heal herself enough to stand up without dripping blood everywhere.
As she started the healing process on herself, she watched as Lydia went after the captain. She should not have been surprised, but she still was a little shocked. They must be very close if they could openly spar like that, in front of all their squad members. By now, the other trainees who were in the courtyard had gathered around to form a ring around the two fighters. They were cheering the two powerful mages on, and Suna was on the edge of the human ring. It was quite a sight to behind, a captain sparring with the vice captain. Certainly not something one got to witness every day.
The captain had effectively blocked the spell aimed towards him, and the two spells collided and cancelled each other out. Then he went with his own moves, and Suna saw two more swords appear and slash out at the other female elf. Goodness, they were both so fast. She could play at a sacrilegious tempo in music, but that small muscles speed does not translate to big muscle speed.
"There's the thing about combat Suna. You can track your enemies movements and prepare for every possible move, right up until they make said move. Until then, you're never truly prepared for what comes next. Anticipation is the game, but reaction is the true strategy."
Suna nodded in acknowledgement, but it was likely missed due to the captain focusing on his opponent. Reaction, was it? How was Lydia going to react to those attacks? She glanced down quickly at her side. Almost there. But even if she was healed up, she would not jump right in, not when the duo was fighting and training. This had turned into more of a squad morale scene, and the civilian would stay out of the way and observe from the side. After all, getting caught in the crossfire would be a terribly unwise thing to do.

[attr="class","florencetext"]Lydia's attack went off as well as she expected as the blue haired elf was caught of guard. The damage to Suna was pretty bad after all the she was currently bleeding out on the sand. The vice captain would have healed Suna herself but thanks to the last dungeon she ran with the sound mage Lydia knew she was able to heal herself. In Lydia's eyes if she healed the minor wound it would be disrespectful to Suna as it would have been the same as saying she didn't trust the other mages ability's to heal. The vice captain wasn't shocked that Ard was able to counter the spell and cancel it both out. After all there power was about the same at the current moment. The pink haired mage wasn't a fool she knew if it came down to it her captain would be able to take out one of her spells without a problem if they got truly serious. [break][break] After all Lydia focused on her speed over the ability to boost the raw power of her spell. As the dust and sand settled Lydia would watch as Ard pulled out two more fire swords dropping to a lower stance. As the captain spoke to Suna Lydia wouldn't strike after all she knew he was still very on guard. The advice the fire mage was good advice after all he wouldn't be much of a captain if he didn't understand matters as simply as this. As the captain asked Lydia how she was going to strike the glass mage would try. His head was an easy target of course the captain had to of known that. Lydia instead would run forward getting before jumping into the air. Lydia would then try and land on the captains back using it as a springboard to push off of before doing flip. [break][break] As her body as facing the captain she would send two more skyspittlers at the captain one after the other to cancel out Ard's two swords. She would then land on the ground being him. She was currently unable to use her swords skyspillter spell. So instead she would rush forward and try to slash the fire mage twice with her sword of junior damage each if they managed to hit.

[attr="class","ardereescroll"]Yes. That's how you do it. Ardere laughed as he was flung forward towards the ground. Pivoting his body forward, his form was thrust into a roll across the wood of the base floor. Pulling his swords back in a swiping motion to protect himself, it was far from over. Swiftly turning to face his opponent, he had to admit they were off to a wondrous start. Excitement filled the veins of the Captain as adrenaline coursed through his body. Very few people were able to keep up with him in melee combat, but Lydia was certainly one of those people. She was his Vice Captain after all. God willing, she would lead the squad some day, or at the very least another squad if he stayed a stubborn un-killable bastard. Her intellect and strategy was probably even better than his own. That was the difference between them though, intellect and instinct. Both possessed each quality, but they heavily leaned in one direction over the other. Perhaps that was what made them such a powerful duo after all. [break][break] Slashing through the attacks coming at him, he was forced to spin along the ground before retaking his stance. She was quick. He was unable to even stand before having to face her attacks. If he had not been holding his swords up, they surely would have struck him. Reaction--that was all he had to rely on now. His swords cracking and falling to the ground like shattered glass, Ardere simply smiled. You might be quicker than me, but I'm banking on that. What did you think, Suna? Pretty good counter attack from Lydia right? I've got scorch marks on the sides of my arms to prove it. Chuckling to himself, his muscles began to pulsate as he infused his body with Physical Reinforcement magic. Boosting his strength to match her swords; he blocked with his forearms. His sheer strength was enough to rebound the blades and leave small marks on his forearms. Smirking devilishly, he pushed his foot forward and attempt to trip her while he slashed at him. His eyes focused on her shoulders to throw her anticipation off, he leaned down to thrust forward a palm in an attempt to smack right into her solar plexus. If either attempt would be successful, he did not know. What he did know was that it was enough to throw her off a bit, and excite him. A good warrior knows how to counter when they've lost their weapon. Lydia knows this, but I think it's prudent for you to learn too, Suna. Blazing eyes, he smiled--this was fun.
It was a good thing Suna had healing in her reserve, otherwise the flow of the fight would have been interrupted, and that was the last thing she wanted. The necklace around her neck radiated in a calming blue glow, illuminating the elf in its soft light. Light blue puffs of aura had gathered around her side, healing the wound from Lydia’s greatsword. Magic knitted her side up, as well as stopped the flow of blood. There was no hiding the side tear on her clothes, however, nor the small blotches of tell-tale red on the ground. At least the sand broke her fall, otherwise her ribs or arm would have surely cracked from the impact.
As this was happening, the blue-haired mage watched as the spar progressed from exciting to intense. Dust and sand were flying, and the action was all centered in the middle of the courtyard. Bystanding trainees were also giving their vocal encouragements and shouts, adding to the flair of the occasion. The vice captain’s spell had been met with its counterpart, effectively cancelling it out, but she still went in for her own set of attacks, aiming the storm spells at the two fire swords the captain had formed.
And hit they did, shattering them out within a blink’s time. It was all so fast, the sound mage only saw a blur of a figure and felt the presence of colliding mana and magic before that move was over. The results definitely earned some applause from the other Crimson Lions, who must be delighted that they even caught this in action at all. But it also seemed like Lydia’s sword had a limit to its stormy powers, and the wielder now slashed out with the blade itself. Now it was a true metal to metal fight.
Well, not really.
Suna watched as the captain used his bare forearms to block the swings. Unlike her earlier gushing wound, those only left small marks on his skin. W-What? Of course she knew it was possible, but she just never saw it happen live. But yes, he really did just block those slashes with his reinforcement magic and sheer strength, right before her very eyes.
She nodded at the fire mage’s comments to her about Lydia’s counter attack. There was more to just that though, as she could see. There was also a matter of picking right back up and not leaving an opening for your opponent to do the same. A quick recovery was also crucial, requiring both instinct and intellect in its process. For every two steps that the glass mage progressed, the captain matched in stride, even throwing in his own advancement.
"A good warrior knows how to counter when they've lost their weapon. Lydia knows this, but I think it's prudent for you to learn too, Suna."
"Yes, sir." On that, she would definitely lose. Or be killed. Probably both. Without her weapons or harp to channel her spells, the elf would basically be useless. Maybe she needed to reconsider her combat approach. The more she trained with the Crimson Lions, the more the civilian realized that her fighting style was vastly different from theirs. Where she excelled in ranged attacks, they preferred melee. Where she provided support and reinforcement from the back, they would rather fight in the frontlines and go in for the kill. Very different indeed, especially in mentality.
Even though Suna was not sure whether she would actually be able to use any hand to hand combat techniques, there was no harm in learning about it. She glanced down at her side. Sapphire Heart had done its job in healing her wound up nicely. Its owner now stood up and picked Cadenza up again, righting it in a ready position so she could flick it up at a moment's notice.
However, she stood on the side, quietly watching and observing. This was a fight meant for the top two, and learning from their movements would be a greater lesson at the moment. That is, unless one of them launches an attack her way. In that case, she would be ready to defend. But until then, the bright-eyed femme would take notes on this flashy and enlightening Magic Knight exchange.

[attr="class","florencetext"]Lydia would watch as her two slashes rebounded off of Ards arms thanks to the captain using some Reinforcement magic to more or less stop her attacks. He would then speak to Lydia before switching over to asking Suna a question while giving her some advice. The other lions were watching the fight on the edge of there seats. Others were wishing it was them getting the chance to train with Ardere and Lydia instead of the blue haired elf who didn't belong to the sqaud. They'd of course never say this out loud. Well captain I'd sure hope you know I'm faster than you. Just like I know in a physical strength fight I can't keep up with you. However we are just getting warmed up I wonder how long it will take before your instincts aren't able to keep up with my speed. [break][break] Lydia of course knew it would have to be long and drawl out for that to happen as the captain had more than likely one of the sharpest instincts in the kingdom where as Lydia used her mind both magss of course used both intelligence and instinct each on just leaded a different way than the other. As the captain went for his attack it was Lydia's turn to play defense. Even without the fire mage looking at Lydia's legs to try and throw her off she knew he'd aim an attack at her legs after the best way to deal with her speed was to take her to the ground. Lydia would avoid getting knocked to the ground while coating her greatsword in her light magic. As the captain went for his next attack Lydia would throw her sword into the air allowing herself to take the punch which her mana skin blocked. Before the captain could pull his arm back Lydia would try and grab his. She of course knew her physical power didn't match his so she would instead use her momentum to flip the captain over her shoulder. The vice captain would then catch her sword aiming another slash at her captain which would most likely get dodged or blocked. [break][break] The pink haired mage would then back up making a triangle between herself Ardere and Suna before speaking. Hey captain you and Suna should fight me together. It will be good for her teamwork skills. The glass mage wouldn't give Suna a chance to answer moving to attack the sound mage who has hopefully still on guard. Once Lydia got close she would would bring an overhead slash down on the blue haired elf. She would then follow it up with a kick to Suna's legs.

[attr="class","ardereescroll"]Ardere chuckled as he allowed himself to get grabbed. He truly had no other choice as Lydia's speed outclassed his own even before reinforcement magic came into play. Being thrown across her shoulder like a ragdoll, the fire mage took the opportunity to twist his body in mid air. Turning to face the light mage, a smile was plastered across his eager face. It had been far too long since he enjoyed quality training with a squad mate, let alone Lydia. Swiftly blocking the strike as a blazing sword was summoned forth into his hand, he quickly parried the blade and slid back. That's actually not a bad idea. Could be fun, if you're up for it Suna. Admittedly the idea of a group attack on his Vice Captain did appeal to him, but it was also the ideal training exercise for the blue haired mage. [break][break] Unfortunately Lydia cut him off mid sentence as she dove in for an attack on the young woman. The Crimson King was not quick enough to run over there and stop it, but he could help his temporary partner out a bit. Immediately behind the overhead slash Lydia sent forth was a fiery blade firing right at her, during which time Ardere dove towards his vice. She would be sufficiently distracted by her own attacks and the sword coming right for her, but he only had a moment. Her reaction time was far more efficient than his was, being a speed based mage and such. He could only hope that his attack landed. The Captain went in for a dual strike while wielding two swords. The slash itself was formed in an X shape, coming from her right and left. Dodging all of the attacks would be nigh impossible for a normal mage, but his opponent was no normal mage. Suna, recover and attack! Don't let her have a moment to breathe. It was the best advice he could give. The less room they gave Lydia to breathe, the better. [break][break] There was not much the two mages could do yet. Ardere's goal was to allow Suna some time to gather herself, then they could coordinate an attack together. Their combined power would be more than enough to make this an entertaining fight at the least. Ardere needed to stay focused. He had more experience than Lydia but she had more raw power. They were the perfect duo to fight together, but against one another it was much more challenging.
In any type of fight, friendly or ill-meant, banterings between the two parties were common. Here Suna watched and heard the two exchange their jests at each other, comparing the individuals’ speed and physical strength against each other. If it was up to those two sole attributes, which would win? Looks like they were about to find out.
Suna stared wide-eyed when the captain went for his vice’s legs. The latter dodged, and her sword seemed to shimmer in light magic. The next second, it seemed like the captain landed his punch...which it did. But the vice captain had thrown her sword up in the air, and after receiving the full brunt of the physical attack, caught the sword again and slashed out at the fire mage.
Interesting move. The blue-eyed spectator did not know what to make of it. Was the sword a hindrance that needed to be temporarily cast aside so Lydia could follow up with her next move? Or was it so she could reset her positioning? Or was it just a flashy move? Either way, she found herself getting drawn back into the fight, and the trainees that were around her had moved aside when the pink-haired mage invited her back into the fray.
"Hey captain you and Suna should fight me together. It will be good for her teamwork skills."
"That's actually not a bad idea. Could be fun, if you're up for it Suna."
Her eyes widened, and she instinctively gripped onto Cadenza. But before she could even respond to any of it, the vice captain was coming at her, greatsword upraised and ready to chop her in half if she did not move.
So move she did. As the elf dodged to the side, she could hear the shing! of the blade passing by. She was sure a few of her blue strands were cut off in that one swift motion. Then an attack at her legs, which she made her instinctively jump up. Jumping back would not have taken her out of Lydia’s kick range, so up it was.
Suna had observed before that her attacker's weakness was her legs, because if they were affected, her speed would also weaken. It also made sense that Lydia would attack others' legs as a reflex. As a result, she would just have to be more careful and watchful on whether her own legs were open for an attack or not.
From the corner of her eye, she would see the captain coming down from behind Lydia, and the fiery blades he had summoned. Then she heard his shout. He was right. She would have to do something on the offense if she was to make any progress. Always playing defense would not get her anywhere.
Her lips had thinned out into a determined line. With a forward lunge, she raised her sword and brought it down from top to bottom—exactly like what Lydia had just done to her a few seconds ago. Imitation is the best form of flattery, after all. With the captain closing in from behind her on the sides and Suna herself attacking from the front, it would surely box her in. Of course, if the sound mage did not know that Lydia had powerful healing power, she probably would not so readily attack her own mentor. How would Lydia recover from this front and back attack?
Suna had angled her downwards slash towards the vice captain’s right shoulder, and in a slight arc so the tip of her blade would not get caught in the ground from her downwards force. Just in case the glass mage tried to barrel her way through her with sheer force alone—which she was more than capable of—she also bent her knees slightly, ready to receive the blow, if it came.
She kept an eye on the greatsword, watching for the slightest movement and trying to see where the blade would swing next. However, it was not the weapon that was dangerous—it was the hand that wielded the blade and the eye that gave away its next movements that she needed to watch out for. That would possibly be the novice’s next mistake, though she did not know it yet.
