Training to Obtain Trap Magic with (Attack Creation)
Will be getting Saboteur
Waylynn tapped her foot, she knew there was a trick to it but she just hadn’t quite made it there yet and as much as she wanted to test out using the ability on someone she also wanted to surprise people with her ability. Of course she hadn’t just started on her training to use trap magic, but she had a good feeling about today and so here she was just outside the Green mantis base but far enough away that the others would be unlikely to have followed her. She brushed a stray hair out of her face and started again, collecting her mana the salt started etching itself into the ground but once more as soon as it was completed it detonated just like a normal attack spell. She wasn’t sure what it was about the Trap that made it so difficult but regardless it was much more so than she had thought when she had started. Only a month ago had she stumbled on the idea for doing this but if she had thought it would take her this long she might not have committed to it, still she was already this far so she wasn’t about to quit. She was on the last step, and the one that seemed to be the hardest for her.
She started again, tracing slowly as she poured more mana into it the magic circle formed again and just as predictably imploded. So she started again, and it happened again; And she poured mana in and it imploded more spectacularly. She stopped, there was something about it that she felt it, getting frustrated was just making things worse and so she stopped. She closed her Grimoire taking a breath. She just had to think for a bit about what she was doing wrong, obviously the problem wasn’t that she was lacking the mana. She had made some fresh vegetables to eat while she was out and now was as good a time as any to try them. Peeled carrots, she waved her finger over them, her raw magic was enough to salt these things perfectly. She took a bite and then stopped for a second, chewing slowly as she realized something. ”No, that’s ridiculous but… it would make sense wouldn’t it?” Eating had reminded her of something that she had often gotten criticism for, her cooking tastes overly salty to most people. Of course that was patently ridiculous her cooking was by far superior to the type of bland dishes most people produced but what if that kind of logic could be applied to Trap magic. If flooding it with mana was causing it to explode, she just needed to cut down how much mana she was putting into a trickle until she wanted it to blow up.
She tapped her finger on her knee while she continued to eat, it was ridiculous to think it would be something so simple, on the other hand if she didn’t try it now that she thought of it. She opened her grimoire again and traced the circle with her finger, barely putting any mana at all into it, the construct fell apart before she was done. She snorted, there was no way it would have been that easy, but it didn’t blow up this time that meant she was at least on the right track. She brushed her bangs back one more time and stood up. This time she would do it, she just needed to balance how much mana she fed into the circle. She started again, focusing on the structure, feeding about half the mana it would usually take her to sustain a spell and found the salt solidifying into a proper circle and then fading away in front of her. She could still feel it, drawing her mana demanding a stream to continue existing. She stepped back fully away from the spell, reaching the range that the structure wouldn’t be able to reach on it’s own. The draw was still the same so now all she had to do was push more into it and… there it was, it drew more mana than she thought but the Salt Shot activated properly shooting a pillar of salt up directly from the spot and launching it directly into the air.
That was the first try that worked, but getting the spell barely functional wasn’t her goal, she wasn’t just here to be able to make crummy traps that would only be useful if nobody was paying attention she wanted to master it. So she did it again, and this time she made two, and waited for a while, she was gauging how much mana they would drain from her. It wasn’t even as bad as maintaining a hex but it wasn’t like she could keep it going all day if she had a lot of them, let alone activate them but she could keep it up for quite some time, probably even maintain a single trap all day if she wanted. She let the magic circles fade and wiped the sweat from her forehead, testing the limits of what she could do was tiring. She smiled to herself though, it was working, and now that it was she could focus on what she wanted to do with it.
Thinking logically she might have considered a few options but what she really wanted was to make the structure, secure the foundation of the circles so that she could make them even while she was in the middle of something else. The circles of salt, she practiced making them dozens of times now she knew how to make them but just remembering the structure wasn’t good enough. She made one and then cut it off right after, not fast enough, she did it again, and again shaping the magic and making it fade from view quickly, rapidly until she messed up. The circle broke because she had been going too fast, put the mana in too quickly and it destroyed itself. So she slowed down again, building up speed as she drew the circles and cut them off until she could do it near instantly.
She looked up at the sky when she was done, the sun was going down she had been practicing for hours and as soon as she realized it she collapsed she had been exhausting her mana too much but she had finally figured it out.
Will be getting Saboteur
Saboteur: Those with this perk can lay their traps at a quicker rate than normal. They can lay a trap 1 post faster than a normal person could. At grand rank this will be further lowered by 2 posts.
