Everything has been peaceful in Nairn, snow has come, and everyone is enjoying their time preparing for the Yule Festivities. Though some of the kids who wander into the nearby forest have come back to town scared, and sometimes even a little bruised up. Upon inspection when some of the adults have gone to see what lies beyond they have come back injured as well. According to all accounts it appears some of the nearby deer have been mutated by large amounts of mana, and become quite aggressive. It is up to you to fend them off, and prevent the townsfolk from being harassed further.

Suna hummed cheerfully underneath her breath as she made her way towards the town of Nairn. She had told Hans that she would wait for him there in town, where they could then go on to Aries Garse. Why the latter, he did not say, but she was not about to press and ask...especially if it had something to do with her. This was the season of yule, after all, and there would surely be gifting-giving as well. She had left her house in the Common Region a bit earlier, so she could peruse through some of the shops and see if she could find something for her dark mage. She had a few ideas in mind, but had not really decided on what to get just yet. Going window shopping would definitely help.
As she entered town, she saw a commotion, and like everyone else, naturally was drawn over to look. Squeezing her way through the crowd, she saw that there were several injured adults...and children. All around here were mutterings of "mana-infested deers" and "aggressive wildlife" and "what are the Azure Deers up to now?" There was even talk of how some should go and fend them off, but it was quickly quelled at the sight of those who had been hurt.
"Too dangerous," they were saying, and Suna could see why. However, if left by themselves, the problem would only get worse. Where were the Magic Knights to usually deal with situations like these? That was their job, right? She was sure that they knew about this, but it seemed like the yule festivities had called many of them away, perhaps on more dangerous missions and problems. But still, if things like these are not addressed, it could quickly become a bigger issue.
Her eyes furrowed in concern. The sound mage would have offered to heal the children and adults, but several medics were already busy at work, healing the injured. They did not need her help, so she quietly withdrew. She continued her walk to the meeting spot, deep in thought. Deers, was it? Not only have the usual wild mana beasts become more aggressive lately, but so were the tamer wildlife. It was strange, but at the same time, it made sense. It seemed like the foreign daemonic powers upon Clover Kingdom had not completely been completely wiped away yet, and unfortunately, nature was also suffering from its repercussions. The delicate balance of nature had been trifled and disturbed with, and everyone—creatures and humans alike—were affected.
With that in mind, she arrived at the spot. Assuming the mercenary was already there, she would run up to him and give him a quick hug. After giving a proper greeting, she burst out with the idea she had in mind. "Did you hear about the deers? We should drive them away for the townspeople, otherwise children can’t go outside without fear of getting hurt. What do you think? It’s just a few deers, what can they do to us? We’re pretty strong together, and I think we can do it." Her tone was confident, and she laid it on him as easily as if she was asking him to accompany her on shopping. "We’re both early, and still have some time. What do you say, hmm?"
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
Hans was waiting at the spot he planned to meet Suna at in town. The merc planned to go to Aries Garse to retrieve something today, and the elf wanted to accompany him. He wasn't too sure about this, since what he planned to grab was a secret, but in the end, he decided to let Suna come...even though she didn't give him much choice. He was just going to have to watch her and make sure she doesn't try to sneak any peeks.
The merc leaned up against a wooden fence, looking off into the distance until he felt a familiar mana, and the sound of footsteps coming his way. Turning his head, Hans saw Suna running up to him and she gave the man a quick hug which he returned. "Hey. You read-" Before Hans could finish, the elf started to...bombard him with words. Hans slowly closed his mouth and just stood there...listening. The last time Suna did something like this, it was because she wanted Hans to go shopping with her...just to have him hold all of her things. But this didn't seem to be the case...thankfully.
"Hold on a sec....Deer?" Is what Hans said after Suna finished laying this all down on the man. Hans needed to process this a bit, but it didn't take long. "Now that you mention it...I recall walking by a group earlier that was talking about some deer." Unlike Suna, Hans didn't decide to pry in on any of that and wanted to keep to himself, so he didn't know the full issue until now that is. "Are you sure that it was deer? They aren't exactly hat hostile." the merc claimed, but either way he dropped his arms to his sides and looked off in the direction of the forest. She was right about both of them being early, so a quick investigation of these deer shouldn't take too long. "The things you make me do..." Hans said under his breath as he crossed his arms again. To this day, a part of him still cannot believe all of the selfless things he's been doing now after meeting Suna...and for free.
With a little sigh, Hans smiled and looked back at his lady with a soft nod. "Sure, let's go." Hans said before walking off, making sure to keep at a pace that would be easy for Suna to follow.
Soon the couple, assuming that Suna was with him would enter into this forest, but not before gaining the attention of some concerned onlookers along the way. The forest appeared ordinary at first with the usual wildlife and plants around...but no sign of any deer yet. The merc looked around, focusing with his eyes, ears, and sensory. All was relatively calm...until they continued to dive deeper in, and eventually, Hans stopped. He started to sense a strange mana, making him furrow his eyes. Hans gave Suna a look before continuing his walk, now a bit more cautious while following this mana.
Eventually, the scent would lead him and presumably Suna to an opening where four deer were....but something was very off about them. Their fur was a lot messier, their antlers sharp, bloodshot eyes, and dangerously sharp teeth. It was clear that something happened to them, but what remained to be answered. The deer didn't seem to notice the couple, however, and were all distracted on a....poor little rabbit. The deer had the little animal cornered, and it was fearing for its life! Hans furrowed his eyes more and took another step forward. Slowly he slid his greatsword from the sheath on his back, and the sound it made caused the deer's ears to perk up and they all immediately turned their murderous sights on the mages, giving the rabbit enough time to scurry off.
The deer didn't seem interested in that rabbit anymore...since they now had new food to play with....
It was a wonder how patient and selfless the mercenary was with all her requests. Most of the time, Suna was the one leading the poor guy around on her whims. The other times...well, the man can be pretty dominant, depending on the situation. As she rambled on about the deers, she could see the questioning look in his eyes. She was not all that informed herself, but they had time, so they could check it out. Besides, being in the forest was always an enjoyable time. Usually.
She beamed when he nodded and smiled at her. Seeing that winning smile directed towards her was something she would never grow tired of. He was always so considerate, even to the way he made sure he walked slower so she would not be huffing and puffing by the time they reached the forest—not like she would, not when she was much more in shape then the old Suna from a year ago. This new Suna was stronger, both physically and mentally. There was another boon to the change: since she has found Hans and opened up to him, she has become a lot more talkative.
"It was just deers, but I hope it’s not as strong as the townspeople said it was, because I saw the injuries on the children. They had some bruises and cuts, but it didn’t look too bad. Probably from when they fell from running away. But then again, there were also some full-grown adults who were also injured, and their injuries were much more severe..." Her voice trailed off when they entered the forest.
Everything seemed normal so far, but she knew that looks could be deceiving. Like Hans, she reached out with her sensory, doing a wide sweep of the area before and around her. When he suddenly stopped, she knew he must have sensed something. Immediately, she hummed a certain pitch, and her sound magic swirled and formed into her portable harp. To whatever expression he may have, she would only smile at him and keep on walking, now that she had picked up on the strange mana signature as now. Her sound magic needed time to be cast, after all, and she was not going to be caught unaware.
Well, she was still caught unaware, though it was at the sight of those deers. Four of them. "Why do they look so...strange?" She whispered to Hans. They were bigger in size than the usual ones, they somehow looked messy and...bloated, somehow? Bloated with an extra surge of mana, but the elf did not know that. All she knew was that their strange auras were very wrong and abnormal.
At first, they were just standing there, their eyes fixed on their prey. A rabbit? Since when did deers hunt rabbits? There was definitely something wrong here. She could sense the malice and violence in their body language. As her companion slipped his sword out of its sheath, Suna also started a graceful melody on her harp. Rallentando It was slow and restrained, just like the spell she was weaving. Her sound magic shot up underneath two of the deers and held it fast with its thick cord-like binds.
The captive two deers struggled against her magical restraints, but the elf kept the music going, not letting them break free. She could feel the surge of power and mana that she was draining from them, and every nerve of her hummed. By extension, she was feeling some of that extra mana boost that the creatures had somehow gotten, though she did not know why or how.
One of the deers tried to get out, but only found its legs getting all tangled up and fell down to the ground instead. She did not need to check to see if it was dead or not—her restraints told her of the quiet loss of life. The other one was more wary upon seeing the first one go down, as it tried rocking itself back and forth, hoping to lose the bonds around its legs. Unfortunately, that would not work, and it soon tired itself out and also fell down to the ground.
During this time, the blue-haired elf was completely defenseless, as she had to concentrate on her sound and to keep it going. Otherwise, if one of the other two deers were to run and strike out at her, she would have to risk either giving up her restraints to deal with the new attackers, or keep going and take the damage. Thankfully, she was not alone, and she trusted her man to take care of the other two strangely mutated creatures...

"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
As they walked, Hans listened quietly once again as Suna spoke. His dark eyes glanced over to her as she mentioned injured children, however. "Children?" The man repeated with his tone low. Even before meeting Suna, Hans had a bit of a soft spot for children. He believes that children are the only ones that are truly innocent, and should be protected. Back when Hans took more brutal...and morally ambiguous jobs, he made sure not to take any that could potentially lead to the harming of a child. It was his own little code, something that set him apart from most other ruthless mercenaries.
Still, it sounded like the injuries that the children were receiving is minor, and possibly just results of them falling over while running. Fortunately, it wasn't anything serious...or fatal. The injured adults however did raise some red flags. "Hmm..." Hans looked forward, seeing as they were just about to enter this dangerous forest. "Whatever is going on in there...we'll be able to handle it." The merc said with a hint of confidence in his voice. The couple has come so far, and there is nothing the both of them can't handle together at this point.
And so in the forest, they went...
After a bit of traveling, and mana searching, the two were now face to face with the culprit...or rather, culprits of these attacks. Four bloodthirsty deer with strange mana coursing through them. Hearing the sounds of Hans' sword and Suna's harp, the deer had their menacing red eyes on them and were just about to go on the offensive, until the elf started to play a melody on her harp. The graceful tune may not have been able to quell these creature's rage...but the restraining spell that was conjured up from it was just as good! Two of the deer watched as their other two brethren were caught in these binds, and as they struggled...the restraints ended them, or put them out of commission at the least. Hans smiled a little and looked over to Suna. "Your restraining has gotten better." The merc commented, but the growls of the remaining two deer caught his attention....and they seemed to be fixated on the woman!
The deer were now on the run...and they were fast!
Until....
"Vincula..."
With his grimoire out and free palm facing the wild animals, two beams of darkness fired from the man's head, each wrapping itself around both of the deer's legs, morphing to appear more like chains shortly after! Their running speed had slowed drastically, and once the creatures noticed the restraints on their legs, they immediately stopped and tried their best to break free from their "shackles". One bounced around like a wild bull trying to throw someone off their back while the second tried ripping its restraints off with its sharp teeth, but the only thing it was successfully able to get off was some fur...and skin, not that it seemed to care. It was...actually sad to see these once pure and precious animals...warped into these angry beasts.
But now was no time for sympathy...
The deer gave up on trying to get these things off and were once again on the run! Furrowing his eyes a little, Hans gripped his greatsword with both hands and ran at one of the deer. As Hans got close, the deer snarled and attempted to impale the merc with its sharpened antlers...but the dark mage was faster now, and with one well-timed swing, Hans slashed through the deer's antlers like they were made of paper! "Sorry..." the man mumbled before bringing his sword down straight through the creature's neck, putting it out of its misery through a swift decapitation!
The merc wasn't done yet, knowing full well that he had one more to deal with. But as he turned around, Hans' eyes widened at how close the second deer managed to get to him! The deer growled and swung its antler at the merc, but Hans was able to jump out of the way in time, with only his coat getting a little scratched up from the close call. The dark mage then lunged forward and sliced the head off of this deer as well, its body following over onto the previous one as its head dropped down beside it!
Now, he was done, but the merc didn't exactly feel good about any of this. Hans looked at the blood on his dark blade and took a cloth out of his pocket to wipe it off. Finished, he inspected the blade before folding the cloth up and sliding it back into his pocket. His eyes fell back onto the four deer as he placed the sword back into its sheath. A slight frown appeared on the guy's face. There was a time where Hans could care less about killing creatures as long as he got paid well, but now...this was just sad. But then Hans' brows lowered. The deer...they still had that weird mana coursing through them, and at that moment, the merc remembered feeling a bit of that mana being sapped by some of them from Suna, and he turned to face her. "You doing okay, Suna?" He didn't know if this mana would have any negative impact on her...and that started to worry the man.
But then, the mana from the deer vanished...or more like, it left their bodies, destination unknown.
"What...?" Hans looked over at them, trying to figure out what was going on....but now another rush of mana was heading towards the two....but fortunately, it felt more regular...human.
"HYAAHHH, ATTAACCKKKK!!!!"
A battle cry erupted, and a small group of mages had come running in, ready for a fight...but it wasn't with the couple. "Wait a sec...." The stampeding mages came to a halt the moment their eyes fell upon the three corpses. "What happen to the...." One of the mages tapped on the shoulder of the one who was speaking, and then pointed over to the sound and dark mage. "Did you two...already slay those deer?" Seems that they were beaten to the punch, but they appeared more relieved than disappointed.
"HUZZAHHHH!!!"
Now the mages were cheering for their saviors, going from ready to throw down to bowing down....well not that far, but close enough.
The group of mages was now on their way back to tell the townsfolk the good news while still cheering. Hans just looked over at Suna, appearing a bit confused. "Uh....We should probably head to Aries now." Hans suggested. If the couple ends up going back the way they came, they might end up getting ambushed by some thankful folks.
The two may have saved this town today....but this was certainly not going to be the last time.

N O T E S
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe!
4/4 Deer ded (killed last two with my sword Raven's Grasp)
Name of Spell: Dark Magic: Vincula Elemental Type: Dark Rank & Spell Type: Senior - Restraining Range & Speed: 50 meters - 25 m/s Mana Cost: 30 (Initial) - 15 (Sustain) Stats Effected: Speed Applicable Perks: Quick Shot/Skilled Sniper/Weighted Chains Description: With a dark aura surrounding their body, the user fires off chains of darkness from said aura, aiming to tightly wrap them around one of the target’s legs. Once attached, the chains lower the target’s speed by -12 m/s so long as they remain bound to them. (Can conjure an additional set of chains for an additional target(s) if they have the required control, but will decrease the spell’s rank in power per people struck by this if the user does not have the required twenty control.)
Killing was never a pretty thing, but as life escaped from the deers, Suna could not help but let out a sigh of relief. Removing danger was something all people should be doing, not just Magic Knights. Of course, knights were specially called into service for such acts of protection, but when it came to defending themselves and others, groups and ranks did not matter. At the end of the day, all that mattered was the people’s safety, and Suna and Hans had accomplished that today.
She lowered her harp and made it disappear back into her grimoire. "Hopefully those were the only ones infected." The elf hummed softly, still feeling a bit of that unfamiliar mana she had siphoned from those mutated deers. The dismembered creatures on the ground had quickly faded away, back into whatever realm they came from. "Their mana tasted...strange..."
Though it was highly unlikely, she hoped that there were no side effects from her coming in contact with this wild strain of mana. That was one of the disadvantages of her restraining magic—she could sap their mana and fuel her own, but in doing so, could also potentially invite whatever infection into her mana system.
Speaking of which, she had noticed that the mercenary had cast a similar restraining spell, though his had looked like chains, and he still physically went in to chop those deers down. "Since when have you started copying me?" Her voice was full of jest and was about to say more, if not for a group of mages who burst into the scene. Apparently, they were here to slay those deers, but looked relieved when they realized that they did not have to. The mages from Nairn burst out in a victory shout, and Suna only shrugged and turned to Hans with a smile on her face. All in all, they made a pretty good team, if she did say so herself.
"Uh....We should probably head to Aries now."
She nodded in agreement. They would have to hurry if they were to make it to Aries Garse before the day grew too late...
- fine - (for now)

Approved! As a heads up, since I can't speak for every grader, since I'm not sure how the others grade, but I think the way you two bounced off one another and set another up for posts was really neat and just really solid roleplaying period. However, you're supposed to both allow the npcs to try to attack you before you can really defeat them, with an emphasis on try. At least one for both of you. However, Suna's post was set up so the deer in Hans' post would do that instead, so it evens out, in my opinion.
I feel this was creative enough while also technically meeting the standards. However, I may not grade it in the future, so it might be best to err on the side of caution in the future even if I feel this meets the standards.
