"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
After shoveling out a few houses from the harsh snow, Hans found himself being pulled straight into one of the said houses. The moment the door closed, Hans swiftly grabbed a hold of the hand that was holding him and twisted their wrist. "Agh!" A masculine groan could be heard coming from behind the merc. With eyes furrowed, the dark mage let go of this stranger's hand and thrust his elbow against his chest before immediately turning to face them with his hand now on the hilt of his sheathed greatsword at the ready! It's not a wise thing to sneak up on Hans, especially if he doesn't recognize the mana....
"Gah...Maybe I should've just...tapped you on the shoulder." The man said with a hand on his chest, appearing a bit winded. An older looking but pretty sturdy-looking man with brown spiky hair, someone that Hans didn't recognize...but it seems that the same couldn't be said the other way around. "Heh, I...I can't believe it. It really is you...Drusilla's boy." Hans gasped lightly upon hearing his mother's name, his grip on the sword loosening a little. "How do you...Wait..." The merc blinked a few times, finally donning on him who this was. "M-Mr. Matthew?" Hans' hand lowered back to his side as brief flashes of a young adult version of this man flashed through his mind. "Huh, all these years, and I still can't get you to call me Uncle Matty? Well, I guess Grandpa would be more accurate now." the man said as he started to chuckle.
It was him, the man who helped Hans and his mother settle here in Aries all those years ago after they escaped from the Diamond Kingdom. "But geez, son....I didn't know you could pack such a punch." The man said, wincing a bit as he moved. "I-I'm sorry. It's just...I-" The merc stopped, and finally noticed that they weren't the only ones in the room. Turning around, Hans noticed a young woman about his age with brown hair and a little girl hiding behind her leg. Hans looked at her for a bit, and the woman smiled softly in return. "Then...that means you're..." The woman nodded softly before opening her mouth. "It's nice to see you again, Hans." Elsa, another childhood friend...or rather, acquaintance since Hans mostly kept to himself during his youth. "Yup! My little girl, Elsa is all grown up as well." Matthew said as he started to laugh. Two familiar faces...yet the little girl was completely new to Hans.
The merc glanced down at the peeking girl, and she quickly hid behind the woman's leg again. "It is okay Ana. He's a friend." Elsa claimed as she crouched down and rubbed the girl's head. Hans tilted his head a bit and looked over at Matthew, and before he could ask, the old man answered, seeing the confused look on the dark mage's face. "The shy one there...is Elsa's daughter, Ana." Matthew said with a grin. "I see." Hans looked back down at the girl, still a bit surprised. The girl was just about to shy away from Hans again but worked up a bit of courage to give a little wave....before hiding behind her mother.
"I would ask ya to have a seat by the fire and offer you some hot cocoa, try to catch up and all that...but we are sort of in a pickle here." the elderly man claimed. "Hm?" Hans crossed his arms, with a questioning look on his face. "Do you mean the blizzard?" Matthew smiled softly before shaking his head. "Well yes...but it's more than just an ordinary blizzard." He then walked over to one of the windows and gestured for Hans to come over. As he did, the dark mage looked out of the window, and much to his surprise, the blizzard appeared to stop with only a few flurries. "It...stopped?" Hans asked, but Matthew shook his head again. "Do you feel it? That sinister mana in the air?" Just after he finished asking, the wind outside started to pick up, blowing some of the snow on the ground around....but it didn't end there.
The snow that was being blown around had started to take shape, forming into....large snowmen wielding shovels! They all looked like they came from right out of some fictional book...if said book was suddenly changed into some eldritch horror book! Hundreds of these beings took shape, and started to move about, targeting and destroying whatever yule themed decorations were up around the town! Some were on their way to the house Hans was at, but then a transparent dome of aura surrounded the home, keeping those creatures out! Hans turned to see Matthew with his grimoire out, erecting this defensive spell. "I may be getting up there in age, but I still got it!" Another hardy laughter erupted from the man. Hans couldn't help but smile a bit at how Matthew barely changed after these years. The merc then looked back outside at those snowmen. What the hell was the cause of all of this!? That question however was swiftly moved to the side as the merc remembered something...or rather someone.
"Suna!"
"Suna?"
Last, the merc remembered, Suna was out there shoveling snow with him....What if she got caught up in this sudden attack!? "I'm leaving." Hans' expression grew serious as he opened the door. "H-hold on. Are you...sure about this Hans?" Elsa said, looking a little worried. Her father then placed a hand on her shoulder and gave the woman a grin. "I'm confident that Hans can handle himself now." He said before looking over to the merc. "Just be sure to swing on by once this is all over. I would love to meet this Suna person." Matthew added, giving Hans a knowing wink. The merc's cheeks lit up a bit, but he gave a small smile and nodded before running out, the elderly man making a brief opening in his dome to let the dark mage out.
A nice little blast from the past...but now it was time for a fight!
"Can you tell me more?" Suna was sitting inside an elderly woman’s house, enjoying a fresh hot cookie paired with a glass of milk. It was nice and cozy inside, unlike the frightful cold weather outside in Aries Garse. "What do you mean, this snow is unnatural? Are there other strange things going on?"
"Indeed." The woman settled herself on the chair opposite of her. "Just listen."
Suna closed her eyes and concentrated, her elven ears twitching this way and that way. The snow had been falling fast and furious outside, but suddenly, all was silent, like the calm before the storm. Then, a booming voice.
"You…you think that these puny efforts can stop my snow?! I am supreme! A creature of extreme power! Winter is my domain and your poor efforts cannot stop me! Now deal with this! My army of snowmen!"
That voice in the air carried its message all across town, and she heard something like a rumble. Eyes flying open, the elf looked out the window and saw from the distance, little round shapes bouncing towards them. "What are those?!" Immediately she jumped up from her chair and ran to throw open the door. Those things were fast, and once they got closer, she saw that they were an army of snowmen. They were everywhere, and some had already begun to tear down and destroy some shops in the outer region of town. "Oh no, I have to go!"
"It’s too dangerous out there, sweetie! You can’t fight them alone!"
"Don’t worry. I won’t be fighting alone." She threw a smile back towards the older lady, trying to reassure her. Already, blue aura swirled around in her hand, forming Coda. With the magical sword grasped firmly in her right, her other hand grabbed the shovel she had left leaning on the side of the house, the shovel that the mysterious older man had given her earlier.
Seeing how she was already halfway out the house and ready to go fight, the older lady did not try to persuade her to stay again. "Be careful out there, dearie!"
"I will! Thanks for the cookie, grandma! Happy Yuletide!" She called out behind her before running out to the streets and to where all the action was happening. She reached out with her sensory, trying to sense out the mercenary’s mana signature. He had been shovelling down a different street, but he could not be too far off. She would guess he would be on his way towards those havoc wrecking snowmen...if he was not trying to find her first.
Well, he would be finding her where the snowmen were. The sound mage had started running towards the snow army, an aura sword in one hand and a shovel in the other hand. Those things were fast, just as fast as she was. A group of them, four in all, had caught sight of her, and were now bouncing towards her, waving their shovels menacingly. Suna ran straight for them, using her sword for attacking and the shovel for blocking.
"Leave..." Using the shovel, she blocked the first enemy’s shovel that was coming down on her head. WIth her other hand, she stabbed her sword through the snowman’s midsection, impaling it before quickly drawing it back out again.
"This..." She swung her sword at the second one, easily slicing its head right off. The head rolled down to the ground, now just a jumble of snow amidst a bunch of clothes.
"Town..." The third one had attempted to use its body to crash into her, but she sidestepped just in time. A slash. A solid block from the snowman’s shovel. Another swing. Another downed snowman. She was getting the hang of it.
"Alone!" The fourth snowman’s shovel had successfully hit her arm, making her drop her own shovel. She leapt to the side and slashed down on its stick arms, breaking them. Then she thrust the blade through its head, until it came out the other side. She broke through its snow head, and it crumbled down to the ground. The four snowmen were just piles of snow now, with a mix of coals, carrot sticks, top hats, and scarves. Where did they get all these clothes from? It must have looked almost comical, the way she was fighting against costumed snow.
It was about now when she would feel a familiar mana presence, and whirl around to face the dark mage, assuming he was somewhere nearby. "Took you long enough!" She laughed. But they were not out of danger yet. There were more snow creatures bouncing up towards them with their giant shovels. It was truly an army.
Suna grabbed one of the shovels from a fallen snowman, since the one she had before was smaller. The next group of them was more like a horde, too many for her to count. "I’ve got four already. And counting!" She charged forward into the group. It was unlike her to be so reckless, but perhaps it was because she was so full of energy...or perhaps the cookie from that elderly lady had some unknown effect on her...

"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
Hans stepped out of the house and the aura barrier surrounding it. He looked around at all of the snow creatures bouncing about and causing chaos. "What in the world is going on...?" Hans commented to himself before suddenly hearing a voice....come from the sky.
"You…you think that these puny efforts can stop my snow?! I am supreme! A creature of extreme power! Winter is my domain and your poor efforts cannot stop me! Now deal with this! My army of snowmen!"
The man looked up to the sky as he listened with his eyes furrowed. Who was this voice...? Whoever it is, there was no doubt that they were referring to him and Suna. The merc looked down and noticed the shovel he dropped earlier, deciding to pick it up. He was going to need to return this to that old man after all...if he could even find him. As the dark mage got back to his feet, he noticed something from the corner of his eyes. Turning towards the home, he saw Matthew's granddaughter, Ana peeking out the window again. This time, she gave the merc a shy little smile and waved at the guy before scurrying off from view. The merc smiled lightly and let out a soft chuckle. There was still a lot he needed to catch up on here in town...but that will have to wait.
Now it was time to slay some snowmen!
With his greatsword drawn, Hans placed the shovel into the sheathe for safekeeping before running off. His eyes darted around, looking at what all these snowmen were doing. Strangely they appeared to be mostly interested in destroying all the yule-themed decorations hung up around town. Why were they specifically targeting those? Either way, at least they weren't attacking other people...but that didn't last. Hearing the sound of glass shattering followed by a woman's scream, Hans stopped and looked over at a little shop that was decorated both inside and out with yule themed decorations. Two of those snowmen were responsible for the commotion, both just wrecking the building while a woman could be seen running from view of the now shattered window!
The dark mage wasted no time with running over and as they heard the merc's booted footsteps crunching in the snow, the two snowmen stopped what they were doing, immediately turning their attentions to the merc! One of the snowmen tried whacking Hans with their shovel but the merc ducked right in time for it to miss before slashing at the snowman's "stomach" with his sword, chopping it in half! The other one tried to bring its shovel down onto Hans' head but he was fast enough to retaliate with an upward slash, slicing right through the snowy creature's shovel! As half of that shovel fell to the ground, the snowman looked at its now broken stick in almost comical disbelief before getting impaled through its "chest" by the merc's weapon, leaving it to suffer the same fate as its fellow snowman. The merc looked at the two "bodies" before hearing some shuffling from behind him. "A-Are they gone?" Turning around, Hans saw the woman, most likely the shopkeeper peek up from her hiding spot curiously. Hans was about to open his mouth, but then the woman yelped and went back into hiding. With an eyebrow raised, Hans turned around to see what spooked her....
Dozens....dozens of snowmen were now bouncing their way towards Hans!
There was no way he could beat them all if they all ganged up on him like this, especially right here where it could put that shop owner in danger. He then looked at his sword and came up with something. "Raven's Bite." The merc tapped his dark sword onto the ground tip first and a dark coating started to surround the blade before sinking onto the snowy ground. The dark mass then formed into two big raven golems, one at each side of the merc. As he got on top of one of them, he pointed at the army, and commanded the second one to attack! The second golem kaw'd before spreading its wings and then took off of the ground to strike at the snowmen, diving into them like a bowling ball striking its pins. It got most of them, but some managed to break through with their attention on Hans. Now it was time for the merc to take to the skies, and with a command, the golem he was riding flew up...but not before one of the snowmen managed to climb up onto raven.
Feeling a stick arm grab against his coat, Hans quickly turned around and smacked the arm off of him. The snowman tried swinging its shovel at Hans, but he ducked to avoid it, and once he was in the clear, Hans sat back up and chopped the snowman's head off. Hans watched as the decapitated snow-head fell off followed by its body and shovel, before commanding his raven to continue flying, the second one following close behind. Looking back down, Hans saw that whatever was left of that army his golem attacked was now giving him chase from below, which was a good thing since now there were fewer of those snowmen attacking the buildings. Now, the man was starting to sense a familiar mana signature, and looked over to see Suna handling her own!
Hans commanded his golem to land by the woman before hopping off. "Had to redecorate a few snowmen." Hans replied with a little smirk. The merc's back was now against Suna's just like how it was out at sea, but instead of pirates...they were up against psychotic snowmen. There was now a horde coming from both sides and Hans braced himself. He commanded his two golems to take flight and go strike down any other snowmen in the area that were still attacking buildings since the battle couple had this all under control. Hearing how many that Suna already took down, Hans frowned a bit since he was below her by just one...not daring to answer. One of the snowmen on his side got a little too close then and the merc grabbed onto its shovel before it could attack, and used his free hand to bring his sword down onto the snowman, slicing it in half vertically!
A predator based Golem crafted from the darkness of the blade. Just like the previous spell, these golems take the form of a raven, but appear more menacing with their sinister red eyes and dark colored armor, standing up to six meters. They are mainly used for offensive purposes, striking with their sharp wings, talons or beak, but can be used for a bit of information relay and transportation purposes as well (reducing its speed to 20 m/s, and capable of holding up to three people) Additional golems can be summoned as per the ammo rules, capping at three.
There were just so many of them. Dozens of bouncing snowmen, if not hundreds...and she was currently in an unspoken competition against her fighting partner. Well, at least from her side. Suna felt the dark mage’s back against her, just like what they had done before on a certain cruise trip.
Blue eyes alight with energy, she turned her head to the side. "Why, I didn’t know you were also a designer." She remarked, responding back with just the barest hint of sass. She was learning new things about him everyday, and so far, he has continuously been impressing her, both in his confidence and abilities. That was not the reason why she liked him so much...well, maybe just a tiny little bit.
"And four, you say?" She nodded towards the horde coming towards them. One had reached her, and she knocked it over with the giant shovel she had picked up earlier. The blow did not kill it, but definitely left it stunned. "That’s four and a half!" She laughed, but then finished it off with a swing from her magical sword Coda. But they were all coming, so she braced herself. Sword on her right, shovel on her left. She got this. They got this. [+1]
As the first line advanced and closed in on the duo, the elf swung her sword out, slicing through the first wave and making three of them explode in a fury of snow and scarves and top hats. Whenever she leapt forward to attack, she also made sure to take a step back, so that her back was well protected. A particularly large pair of snowmen came bouncing up, and they were jumping so high, they were way above her head. Not a particularly hard thing to do, not when the elf was so short. [+3]
"Heads up!" She pointed her sword directly forward and up, so that one of them would fall and impale itself right on her blade. It went straight through, cutting through the snowman all the way up to its top hat. She yelped at the bunch of snow that fell right on top of her, and she had to wave the top hat off the tip of her blade. She just hoped the mercenary got the other one, since it had bounced and was also right above his head. [+1]
At the same time, she had kept her left hand busy, defending and swatting away any snowmen that got too close for comfort. If these enemies were some kind of mythical creatures or mana beasts, the elf would have felt a bit of pity and guilt for killing them. But these snowmen? They did not have any hearts nor souls, so she did not feel bad in ‘killing’ them. They were more like snow golems, mindless machines that obeyed the will of its caster. These she had no problems in killing.
She saw that the mercenary had set his raven golems to help the townsfolk, and though he would not be able to see it, she smiled and nodded in approval. He was always looking out for the innocents and helpless, just like a true protector and hero. That was definitely one of the qualities that drew her to him. She knew she could always trust him to have her back, and protect her as best as he could. But only if she was doing her part.
In her brief moment of distraction, a snowman had bounded up to her and brought his shovel down right on her head! Well, almost. The shovel she had been holding blocked most of the blow, but it did knock her back a step, and she dropped the shovel to rub her head. "Oww..." Her nose flared in slight annoyance at the pain, but her sword made quick work of that snowman, cutting it into smaller chunks of snow, even though that was probably not necessary. One slash would have been enough. But still, they needed a better and faster way to get rid of this mob of snowmen. [+1]
"We should fight from above. We can wipe out more of them at once." Since the mercenary’s ravens were still presumably helping keep the snowmen away from the shops and civilians, Suna pulled her broom out. "Want a ride?" If Hans had called his ravens back, then she would not have given the offer. Either way, the elf hopped on—she still needed to work on her balance so she could stand on top—and took off into the skies.
Now that she was flying safely above those bouncing snowballs with oversized shovels, Suna could see everything. Staccato. She positioned herself so she was in a slightly less populated area, and with her aura magic, formed little pebble-like rocks that covered an entire area. It was like a landmine, and all she had to do now was to bait them into it. She flew over a group of them, and she started shouting and waving her arms at them, attempting to capture their attention.
"Hey! Over there!" Once she has drawn in their focus, she would start flying back up and right over her spell. "Catch me if you can!" She called out, lacing some of her sound magic in an attempt to lure them over. The elf was careful to keep her broom flying high, though, in preparation of what her spell would do once something stepped on it.
As the first snowman bounced right onto those harmless looking blue rocks, her sound magic burst with a loud noise, like a balloon that has been overblown. As it burst, the poor snowman was launched straight up in the air, disintegrating into a fluttering rain of snow before it hit the ground again. However, these snowmen were not very smart, she had to say. The whole group of them had followed and bounced right into her spell, the loud popping creating a cacophony of noise. Any of the snowmen who stepped on those aura pebbles were launched into the air. It was almost like they were dancing, and in tempo to the loud pop music. [+group/6ish?]
And there was the sound mage, just sitting up there on her broom with a bemused look on her face. This was the first time she had gotten to use this particular spell, and it was working better than expected. She had used it during training, of course, but getting to implement it into a real fight was a different matter. All around her, chunks of snow were flying up and raining back down, leaving behind only a pile of snow and a jumbled heap of clothes. Speaking of which, the townspeople could probably use some of those scarves and hats. After this fight was over, of course.
She had cleared out this area, and now she turned her magical broom back down to the ground. As she landed near wherever the mercenary was currently, her cheeks were aglow and her smile was about ready to burst off her face. "That worked better than I expected!" From her view on top, she had also seen the mercenary clear out his area. "You looked really cool fighting over here, too. Doing this...and that..." Then she would mimic some of his action moves, though it looked more comical when she did it.
Assuming that they had taken care of most of the snowmen army, Suna would put her broom back and brush off some of the flying snow she had gotten from those dancing and disintegrating snowmen. "How many did you get?" She asked, then realized she had not counted how many she had lured into her spell. "I forgot to count mine, but judging from what I saw, I think you won." She shrugged, but did not mind the loss too much. "You win...this time." And she stuck her tongue out at him. What fun would it be if she was always winning? This kept things interesting as well.
It seemed like they had successfully taken care of the snowmen army, and Suna exhaled and waved her magical sword away. However, this snow problem was far from over, and there were even more enemies that the duo would have to face. Back in town, several bells were ringing, and these were the types that did not bring any glad tidings...
- fine - (for now)

"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
"I'm just full of surprises I guess." Hans responded in jest. Ever since he met Suna, the merc found himself opening up a little more and more through each interaction. Usually, when it comes to battles, Hans barely spoke a word if at all, but now he was sneaking in these little jokes....and to him it honestly felt good, making things feel less stressful. On top of that, the couple was now treating this battle like some sort of challenge with Suna declaring to have the upper hand by just a half! "Tch, I see..." The merc smirked as two more snowmen bounced his way. Like before, Hans sliced one of the incoming shovels in half before slashing the snowman's body in half, causing its upper body to slide off and onto the ground. The next snowman swung its shovel but Hans ducked from it and cut its stick arm off that it used to wield that hammer. Before it could react, the snowman found itself with a sword to the "stomach" before breaking apart and falling to the snowy ground. "Two." Is what the merc simply said, getting himself caught up in yet another challenge with her.
With the horde getting closer, Hans braced himself by summoning Corvi Armis. The dark armor surrounded the merc, and just in time too as one of those snowmen managed to swing their shovel at his armored head, doing nothing but making a "tink" sound. Hans then kicked that snowman away from him before slicing the head off of another one that was approaching him. From the dark "smoke" surrounding his armor, Hans pulled out a dark sword from it and was now dual-wielding these bladed weapons. The merc impaled one snowman in the chest with his magic sword before pulling it out and diagonally cutting another snowman with his greatsword. "Three!" The dark mage yelled out in case Suna couldn't hear him among these snowmen, his tone sounding a bit metallic from his armor.
The merc heard his lady yell a warning and he immediately looked up to see two snowmen trying to get the drop on them! Holding both swords up, Hans crossed them both together and performed an X shaped slash that struck one of the snowmen, turning it to piles of snow as a result. The pieces of snow landed on Hans' armor but he did not flinch....but what he didn't realize is that the snowman's hat had landed perfectly on the top of his armored head which looked...rather silly.
As the couple continued to battle this army, Hans' raven golems were still at work, striking down snowmen that were assaulting buildings while staying within range of their master. The golems dove down and sliced through snowmen with their sharp wings while one of them managed to impale a snowman with their beak. Some of the snowmen managed to climb up the golems, but the ravens quickly disposed of them by turning themselves over in midair, making those snowmen drop to the ground, the impact smashing them into a snowy mess!
Hans nodded at Suna's suggestion, and got on the woman's broom behind her before it took off into the sky! Now in the air, Hans had a better view of the snowmen...and there were still many. Hans pondered about what he could do to handle these snow creatures faster, but then he saw the sound mage summoning another spell...one he had not seen before. Pebble like constructs was formed, covering a wide area below them. She then tricked a lot of the snowmen to chase after her, and once they were in place.....
BOOM!
The pebble all set off, making a wide explosion that took all of them out! Hans smirked under his armor, very impressed with how far Suna has come...but it was Hans' turn.
The merc called one of his golems up to him, and once it was close enough, Hans jumped off of the broom and onto the raven. He then flew off to where he saw another big group of snowmen still huddled around. He scanned the area first and saw that there weren't any innocents around and that the buildings were just far enough apart to let him do what he has planned without any casualties. Hans placed his magic sword back into the darkness around his armor and summoned a small rotating dark sphere in his palm. Hans commanded his rave to fly down just low enough for him to toss the sphere within that army of monsters before flying back up. "Caedem..." As the merc flew up, he clenched his fist, and the sphere he threw...exploded into a larger sphere that covered a large area, not as much as Suna's but it was still effective. The sphere rotated violently, shredding apart all the snowmen that were caught in it while barely missing any buildings!
Once the spell finished, what was left behind was a large crater with a spiral-like pattern....
With both areas cleared, an end was put to this rampaging army of...killer snowmen. Hans landed back on the ground and called his ravens back to his sword before sheathing it. As his dark armor faded, the merc heard Suna's voice as she came into a landing beside him. He turned around and watched in amusement as she mimicked his techniques...in a silly way. "You were really good too." The merc claimed before looking over to where she just flew from. "That was an impressive spell." She was getting stronger....They both were, and it felt good that they were sharing this.
Honestly, Hans had lost count himself and shook his head. "Pretty sure your spell carried a wider range." Unfortunately, before a back and forth could start up over who the true victor is...bells could be heard, ringing back in town.....Just like Suna, Hans looked back quietly at where the ominous ringing was coming from and furrowed his brows.
Using their grimoire, the user forms an armor of darkness around themselves and/or others for defensive purposes. Through the dark feathery smoke surrounding the armor, the user can pull out a sword crafted from darkness for him or for others to use. The sword can be wielded like an ordinary weapon by anyone, but only the conjurer is capable of controlling them with their mana. The amount of armor and swords that can be summoned follows the ammo rules (Defense Buff will decrease to +6 Durability if more than one armor is summoned) (Spell gains +5 Durability)
