"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
The town of Aires Garse was quiet. After suffering from a massive blizzard...followed by being under attack by an...army of snowmen, the town went silent saves for the blistering winds that blew some of the snow on the ground around. But then bells could be heard jingling out in the distance. They sound festive, fitting for this time of the year...yet ominous at the same time. With the fighting seemingly coming to an end, some curious citizens have started to peek out of their homes....but then a voice erupted from the skies...
"GRRRRR! I shall not have this! This is preposterous! Ridiculous! My Snow? My Army? Well, I shall take my revenge. This Holiday shall not be defiled! Let me teach you of the true hymns of Yule!"
The voice was loud and booming, being heard throughout the town. Almost all of those who were outside had their heads facing up to the sky, including Hans what was currently standing around dozens of carrots, sticks, hats, and other things you'd find on a snowman. "That voice again..." Hans muttered, the only person who could hear him being Suna if she is still around him. Whatever this voice was, it sounded like it wanted revenge on this town...relating to yule? That sort of explains why the snowmen were mostly going after yule themed stuff...but why was Aries Garse the target? Hans couldn't ponder on this for long as the ground beneath him...and around the town had started to shake! Some citizens started to scream and try to remain on their feet as the shaking continued. Hans nearly fell over as well but managed to keep up his balance before looking over to Suna to see if she was doing okay, ready to assist her if she's about to fall. Was this an earthquake!?
No...It's something else entirely...
In the market district, four towers erected from the ground, each taking a different end of the district. They could all be easily seen from any other part of town, towering over other buildings. The towers had yule-themed decorations of their own but it didn't make them look any less menacing. People were now talking among themselves, talking about that strange voice, the towers, and just wanting to know what the hell was going on in this town?
Then the jingles grew louder...
The bell sounds continued to ring, now being obvious that it was coming from those towers. But not just that...People around the area were starting to yell and scream, trying their best to cover their ears while some crouched to the ground as if they were in pain. Whatever odd noise odd effects were emanating from these bells, it started to mess with Hans a little as well. "Agh...!" The dark mage quickly covered his ears, and gritted his teeth. He looked over at Suna again to see how she was doing, but his attention quickly went elsewhere as he saw some of the citizens...transforming, their bodies shifting and becoming more...zombie-like. This transformation must've been coming from the bells, and no one who could currently hear it was safe...
"Th-the bells..." Through a combination of covering his ears, and his strong mana, Hans is able to resist this transformation...but it was clear that this won't help for long. "W-We need to find...something t-to cover our ears with!" Hans yelled out as he looked at the elf once again, both concerned for her safety due to her heightened hearing and the safety of the seemingly doomed citizens.

Suna was still thinking about what she should do with this jumbled array of scarves, top hats, and carrot sticks when a loud voice interrupted her thoughts.
"GRRRRR! I shall not have this! This is preposterous! Ridiculous! My snow? My army? Well, I shall take my revenge. This holiday shall not be defiled! Let me teach you of the true hymns of yule!"
The voice boomed across the town of Aries Garse, the same one they had heard earlier that had summoned the snowmen army. It sounded even more annoyed than the previous time, and the elf could only wonder what it would summon this time. The question remained: who was the voice? And why was it destroying all things related to yule? She would guess it was a miser who dislikes the happy season, but it was only a guess. After that snowman incident, what she was expecting was some giant creature to come stomping and destroying the houses in town.
A rumbling. An earthquake. She yelped and nearly fell down on her rump from the ground shaking. Balance was definitely not one of her fortes. Her eyes widened when she saw four mysterious towers coming out of the ground, and she could sense the panic in the air even though they were on the outskirts of town. But then, something else caught her attention.
Bell-like sounds were coming from those towers. Suna tilted her head, her elvish ears perking up in interest. However, something seemed off about them. Bells usually brought glad tidings...but not these ones. Somehow, the bells ringing did not bring any joy and life. Instead, each note seemed to fade away into dissonance, into something flat and...dead. The female winced. There was something wrong in it, but as for exactly what, she could not quite tell.
Palms outstretched, the sound mage let out some of her magic. Trails of wisping blue magic floated around her ears, silencing them from any outside sound. She would also err on the side of caution, as she knew one of her natural weaknesses was if her element was thrown back at her. She knew that Hans had heard those off-putting sounds as well, by the way he was covering his ears. If he allowed it, her magic would also hover around his ears and stop him from hearing those bells.
Now she saw his lips move, saying something. She had not yet seen those citizens transform zombie-like, as she was plugging their ears with her magic. However, as she turned back towards town, blue eyes widened in alarm when she beheld the unsettling situation. She could now see that some of the villagers closest to the mysterious towers were transforming into hideous shapes and auras. Their eyes were dead, yet they were walking around like they were alive. She shuddered. Such a crafty sort of poison.
"Let’s go!" She shouted. Both of them had their ears protected, but he could probably tell what she was saying. Hopefully. Just in case, she waved her hand in a beckoning fashion, then she started running back towards town. As she ran, Suna hummed and her harp materialized in front of her. Even without her hearing, she still knew the exact pitch by its vibration and placement. Her years of practice and training also meant she did not need to hear the notes in order to play, for her fingers were well attuned with its muscle memory.
A Tempo. Even before they neared one of the towers, the elf was already running slender fingers through the strings, coaxing a soothing melody in an attempt to combat the bells ringing from the towers. In addition, her spell was also attempting to heal any villagers within her range, attempting to cleanse and heal them of this strange and horrifying magic. However, at the base of one of the towers, two villagers had turned towards them, their tainted auras flickering around them. Their eyes looked so far gone, she did not know if she could save them from this poison they were hearing. But she must try.
She rushed forward, her healing spell whirling in a wide area around her. One of the possessed individuals started to throw snow at her, which she deftly dodged, while the other one was starting up some sort of water spell. But before he could cast it, Suna released her sound magic once, knocking both villagers back against the tower. Hopefully that was enough to knock them out, and temporarily stop their spells so she could attempt to cleanse them from whatever ills this was.
If Hans had been following her, the elf would point up to the top of the tower, and make a slashing motion at her throat. Hopefully he got her message to find out whatever or whoever was making that sound and to cut it off somehow. She pointed to herself and back to the villagers, indicating that she would stay down on the ground and keep the healing going on, hopefully preventing more villagers from changing into those dead-eyed puppets. As long as he kept within her line of sight, she would be able to keep her sound magic working as a ‘barrier’ around his ears, and keep him from turning into one of these zombie-eyed townsfolk himself...

"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
Who would've thought that the innocent jingling of bells could be so....evil. Certainly not Hans, but he was now experiencing just that, attempting to fight off the effects of those towers by covering his ears. The more he tried the more the merc would feel his body giving in, and it would be a matter of time until he ends up like most of the other citizens...zombified. But then the merc felt something surround his ears and without warning, everything went silent. "Wh-what?" he said, but even his own voice couldn't be heard. Whatever was covering his ears, the mana coming from them felt very familiar...and so he turned his attention to Suna, and took notice of the magic surrounding her ears. Putting it together, the merc got on his feet and nodded at his woman in thanks. They couldn't hear anything at all, but it also meant that they couldn't hear those bells...
Hans had his attention on those towers again. It was clear that those sounds were emanating from them, and the merc knows enough about this town to tell that they are located in the market district. The couple needed to take down those towers and that should hopefully end the bells and turn these unlucky citizens back. Looking back at the sound mage, Hans was able to read her lips and with a nod, he proceeded with her to the market area but stopped briefly to look back at a certain direction. He silently wondered if Matthew and his family were alright...and hopefully not turned into one of those creatures. Knowing Matthew, it's unlikely given how strong he is...but Hans was still a little worried. Instead of moping about wondering this, the merc was going to use this worry to push himself, and so he summoned his dark armor Corvi Armis around him once again and continued on to those towers.
Making it to the market district, Hans took a lot around his surroundings. The once festive looking market stands in this area were all torn apart or being thrown over by the zombie-like citizens here. At this point, it was clear that whoever that voice is has something against yule...or at least that's what Hans thinks, unaware of its true motives behind all this, and why it specifically chose this town...his town to torment.
Hans was now looking at the tower that was closest to him and Suna but before they could approach it any more, the merc felt something fast approaching them and turned to see two of those zombies. Suna was able to handle them before Hans could and luckily she did it in a way that would not kill them through the use of her healing and holding back. These zombies were just citizens being controlled, at the mercy of the sinister bells. They needed to bring those towers down without harming any of these people. Suna made a slicing gesture at her neck while pointing at the tower, and Hans was able to quickly put together what she meant. She wanted him to bring this tower down, which he nodded to before taking a step back. Using his greatsword, Hans cast Raven's Bite again and summoned one of his raven golems. Hans climbed onto the golem's back and looked down at the elf. 'Be careful.' is what he mouthed to her, assuming she was going to stay on the ground....but completely forgot that he was wearing a helmet so instead, he just gave the woman another nod before taking off.
In the sky, Hans flew up beside the tower until he made it to the top where a large bell could be seen swaying back and forth. Being this close would've probably been ear piercing if it weren't for the sound magic protecting his ears. The merc stood up on the back of his golem, commanding it to fly in place with the use of his mana tethers. He then slid his greatsword back into its sheathe, and pulled a dark sword from out of his armor's dark "smoke", intending to use this to cut this tower down. Hans looked back at the ground to see how Suna was fairing before putting a tighter grip on his sword. Hans was ready to cut it down...
Until....
A "zombie" came out of hiding and jumped at the golem, being close enough to barely land on its head! The force of that jump way enough to push the golem back a bit and Hans nearly lost his balance! The zombie got on his feet and rushed at Hans with an orb of water in each hand. Hans rose his sword up but stopped himself from going any further. "Right...Citizens." Hans muttered to himself just as the zombie threw both of its water orbs at Hans, both hits landing...but not effective due to his dark armor. Hans slid his dark sword back into the dark "smoke" just as the zombie powered itself with some water physical reinforcement. The zombie rushed at Hans and started punching the dark mage's armored chest before attempting more brutish strikes against his head...but not even that was strong enough to harm Hans. The "zombie" continued to try, however, but as it tried to land another punch, Hans grabbed onto its wrist and subdued the zombie which was now trying to struggle out of the merc's hold.
As he inched his face closer to this possessed citizen, Hans gasped as he recognized the face. "You're..."
It was....
...that guy who broke into Hans' old home months ago and stole his mother's necklace....the same guy who swindled the poor dark mage out of some flowers he wanted to give to Suna.
That greasy conman had found himself becoming one of these zombies, and Hans couldn't help but chuckle a little at this despite not being able to hear himself. "Serves you right..." the man claimed before holding the poor guy up...and now started to dangle him from over his raven. Hans...greatly considered just throwing him off...he really pondered it...but even this man didn't deserve death. So with a sigh, Hans just dove back down and gently...tossed the familiar "zombie" into an already destroyed market stand before flying back up. This time however when Hans flew up, he stretched his sword out and sliced along the side of the tower, working his way all the way to the bell and once he made it to the top, the tower came crumbling down! At first, the pieces appeared like they were all about to come crumbling down...on those who were at the bottom, and with a shocked realization on his hidden face, Hans was about to dive down, save whoever he could...but then the tower just vanished, the broken pieces turning into snow.
For a second, Hans took a look around, and once saw that everything was fine, he sighed in relief before turning his attention to the next tower. They may not look it now, but it seems that these towers are also made out of snow magic, their true forms taking shape once destroyed. With sword still in hand, Hans flew off to the next tower...but awaiting him on that one were two more of those zombies...ready to defend.
Using their grimoire, the user forms an armor of darkness around themselves and/or others for defensive purposes. Through the dark feathery smoke surrounding the armor, the user can pull out a sword crafted from darkness for him or for others to use. The sword can be wielded like an ordinary weapon by anyone, but only the conjurer is capable of controlling them with their mana. The amount of armor and swords that can be summoned follows the ammo rules (Defense Buff will decrease to +6 Durability if more than one armor is summoned) (Spell gains +5 Durability)
A predator based Golem crafted from the darkness of the blade. Just like the previous spell, these golems take the form of a raven, but appear more menacing with their sinister red eyes and dark colored armor, standing up to six meters. They are mainly used for offensive purposes, striking with their sharp wings, talons or beak, but can be used for a bit of information relay and transportation purposes as well (reducing its speed to 20 m/s, and capable of holding up to three people) Additional golems can be summoned as per the ammo rules, capping at three.
Her sound magic could work as both a boon and a bane in this situation, so Suna would have to be careful. Hans had nodded at her, indicating that he got her unspoken message and she nodded back. It was the only way they could communicate, after all, since her sound magic was cutting off both of their hearing. As the mercenary flew up to deal with whatever was up there in the tower, she kept an eye on him, maintaining that blessed silence. But at the same time, she would have to deal with these citizens-turned-zombies.
Her healing spell A Tempo was still ongoing, and the two citizens had been knocked out, so they did not give her any trouble. However, from behind her, she could hear an horde of people coming, and she nervously bit down on her lower lip, hoping that Hans could quickly stop the bells from ringing. She did not know if she could heal that many at once, nor if she could keep them all at bay if they transformed into zombies.
She sensed a falling mana signature, and she whipped her head around, alarmed and heart hammering fast. It...it was not Hans, was it? No, it was just a transformed civilian, and he had been lucky enough to land on a market stall’s clothed roof, giving him a cushion as he landed. Goodness, why was a man up there on top of the tower? Nonetheless, Suna let out a breath she did not know she had been holding. Thank goodness it was not someone she knew...or so she thought. But that aside, it meant that the mercenary must have reached the top by now.
Just then, she saw the tower sway and shake. She ran over to the two knocked out citizens, shaking their shoulders and shouting in their ears to wake up. Shadows loomed over her. The tower was falling down. Without thinking, the female grabbed the two citizens by their arms and tried to pull them away from the collapsing tower. Oh no oh no oh no... She thought it was going to fall on her, and that would be the end of all of them...
That is, until the tower suddenly dissipated into thin air, and some of its broken pieces turned into snow. Suna had not let go of the arms of the two civilians, who finally came back to consciousness. Then she looked down and saw how tightly she was grabbing onto them, and sputtering apologies, dropped their arms. One of the mage’s eyes grew wide, and he pointed at something behind her. Suna whirled around, and let out a cry when she came face to face with...
That guy who stole Hans’ mother’s necklace.
She met him only once in that instance, but remembered him well. Currently, he was still a zombie, and though his actions were crazed, his eyes were dead. Hands raised, he was about ready to attack with a barrage of water orbs at her, point blank. Without thinking, Suna grabbed onto his arm, and the one hand flew up to the necklace around her neck. Instantly, the necklace started to glow, and as aura puffs covered the man, the blank look in his eyes slowly changed from blank to something more human, more alive. The healing magic cleansed him of whatever sound poison he had been suffering under, and Suna sighed in relief when the man’s aggressive motions softened to a bewildered and somewhat embarrassed demeanor.
Hans! Her head snapped around, looking for him. Ah, there he was. He was already flying towards the next tower. She had best follow him quickly, before he flies out of her range and her sound magic fails to protect his hearing. With a quick wave, the elf hopped onto her magical broom and took to the skies, catching up to the mercenary on his raven golem.
This second tower was much like the first, and she spied two transformed townsfolk waiting for them at the tower. Suna flew down lower and immediately drew her fingers across her harp, catching both of them in her healing spell. Like before, these two were flung them back against the tower, knocked out and rendered powerless. Only then could she start her healing. The trick was to ‘attack’ them first before they got a chance to attack, and it worked off without a hitch this time.
She assumed that Hans would do something similar to whatever he did last time with the tower. After they dealt with this second tower, she would fly over to the third tower. This one did not seem to have any zombie villagers guarding it, so the elf flew up and summoning her aura sword Coda, launched it straight at the bell, slicing it off its hold and watching it fall down to the ground.
Though she could not hear it, she was sure the bell made an ugly clank! when it hit the ground, before it disappeared into thin air. Just like with the others, the tower started to crumble, until it was just a heap of snow. Assuming the mercenary was nearby, Suna would point to the final tower and take off flying towards it. Just one more...

"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
Hans was now on his way to the second tower with a firm grip on his dark sword. His eyes were fixated on the large bell at the top, watching it sway back and forth as it rang its ominous tune. He couldn't hear the bell, but the merc could tell that the ringing was of remaining towers were still loud and powerful, but with one of them taken down, it definitely weakened the power that it was emanating, perhaps even shifting some of the poor citizens back to normal...but not all of them.
The merc finally took notice of the two zombies waiting for him at the top of the second tower, both of them conjuring up fire spells. He pondered on what to do with these two until.... "Hm?" But then the merc noticed something. It was faint...but he can hear again...Which means he can hear the bell. "I'm getting too far..." The effects of the tower was happening slowly however as the ringing only sounded muffled, but Hans could feel that sinister curse, slowly working its way into his body. At this point, the armored mage may have to turn back...but then everything went mute again.
Hans perked his head up a bit at the sudden shift and turned to see that the sound mage has caught up to him on her broom. He smiled lightly under his armor, glad that she came through just in time. Not only that, but she got to work too, knocking both of those annoying zombies back with her healing magic so that they couldn't attack! Taking advantage of this, Hans lifted his dark sword up, and threw it blade first at the tower's bell, using his mana to up the speed of it and it pierced straight through the bell! One crack expanded out from the hole, then another, and another until the bell broke apart, crumbling to pieces with the tower beginning to fall apart shortly after. The merc would've just moved on to the next tower...but he noticed that those two zombie-like citizens were still on top! The tower may just form into snow, but he doubted that the snow would be enough to cushion their fall. So as the tower fell, Hans commanded his raven golem to dive down and fly right under the currently falling citizens.
They landed behind Hans on the raven's back and the merc quickly turned around to make sure they wouldn't try anything, but they both appeared to be out cold...and healed. The merc could feel that familiar healing magic surging around them, making him look up at Suna again. Recently, Hans has been thinking about how strong Suna has gotten offensively...but never has he thought about how far her healing has come. Strong yet gentle...fitting for someone like her...and one of the main reasons the merc fell for her.
Just like that, the sound mage was now displaying that strength of hers.
Like Hans, Suna launched a magic sword of her own at the bell of the third tower, but instead of piercing through it, she sliced it right of its holding and it fell off to the ground, no doubt making a very loud crashing noise before fading into snow. The rest of the tower was now falling apart as well before forming into snow. With that, a lot more citizens were now reverting back to normal. Only one tower remains now and the elf pointed to it. With a nod, Hans flew off towards the tower, this time unsheathing his greatsword. Like before, some of the remaining zombie citizens were waiting on top. There were three, one with earth magic, another with fire, and the final one with water magic. All three of them appeared to use some form of transformation magic to create wings made out of their respective elements. With that, they all took flight, and started to throw magic spells at the couple!
The merc held onto his golem tight as he commanded it to maneuver around all the incoming spells! Hans had to shift away from the tower to try and lose those three, but even with how slow they flew in comparison to the raven, those zombies were not letting up on their pursuit! Hans then looked back at them and his grimoire started to glow, one of his hands also lighting up in a similar color. He used his Vincula spell to fire two dark beams from his hand, both hitting two of the zombies and forming into dark chains around one of their legs. Those zombies were slow now, but this made them even slower, falling way behind the third zombie. This lightened up the amount of elemental projectiles coming Hans' way significantly, making it easier for him to head back to the tower!
With greatsword in hand, Hans flew straight at that final bell and...
SHLING!
The merc sliced right through that bell then repeated the action on the opposite side, leaving an X shaped mark on the bell that only lasted for a few seconds before the entire bell crumbled into snow, followed by the rest of the tower! The job was done, all four towers were taken down, and the people were saved....or at least most of them.
With the curse from these towers lifted, the three zombies that were in the air reverted back into citizens...and the magic they were using to fly had vanished. Now they were all heading straight towards the ground! "Shit..." Hans saw this and quickly looked over to Suna. He pointed at one of the falling citizens, wanting her to catch them as he went for the other two. The merc dove down, his golem's wings bending back to it could go faster as the armored mage held on tight. It was close but...Hans was able to make it just in time to have those two citizens land on the golem's back before safely landing to the ground. Hans looked back at his passengers, a child, and a man to see if they were okay. They were pretty rattled, but they'll survive. A sigh escaped the merc's lips, one he couldn't hear if the sound magic was still deafening his hearing. He got off the golem then helped the other two off before calling his golem back into the greatsword. He now looked over to wherever Suna was to see if she managed to get the other citizen and would start heading over to her while dropping his armor.
The other people around the market district appeared a bit out of it and confused, which made sense given what happened to them. All appeared safe now...but that secure feeling would only be brief as it started to snow again...quickly getting fierce as the wind picked up! People would start looking up at the sky, and noticed that the clouds were starting to rotate menacingly with an opening showing up right above the town square.
Name of Spell: Dark Magic: Vincula Elemental Type: Dark Rank & Spell Type: Senior - Restraining Range & Speed: 50 meters - 25 m/s Mana Cost: 30 (Initial) - 15 (Sustain) Stats Effected: Speed Applicable Perks: Quick Shot/Skilled Sniper/Weighted Chains Description: With a dark aura surrounding their body, the user fires off chains of darkness from said aura, aiming to tightly wrap them around one of the target’s legs. Once attached, the chains lower the target’s speed by -12 m/s so long as they remain bound to them. (Can conjure an additional set of chains for an additional target(s) if they have the required control, but will decrease the spell’s rank in power per people struck by this if the user does not have the required twenty control.)
With the first tower down, Suna had to follow the mercenary quickly before he got too far. But she caught up with him, thanks to her magical broom, and they destroyed the second tower without much hassle. Hans had also put up some flair using his raven golems, saving the falling citizens before they fell down to the ground. Fancy moves there. The two civilians had landed safely behind him on the raven, and she let out a sigh of relief when she saw that they seemed normal and all healed up now.
She was glad that her aim with her Coda sword was true to its mark, otherwise it would have been pretty embarrassing if it had missed at so close of a range. The female mage did a quick sweep of the area, making sure that there were no citizens that were hurt or still affected by the sound poison. With that assurance, they moved on to the fourth and final tower.
Hans had flown up ahead, and Suna followed closely behind, readying her harp and also her aura swords for whatever may happen. There seemed to be three ‘enemies’ waiting for them. These transformed civilians were able to fly, giving more of a challenge. But she did not have to worry, not when she had such a strong and dependable man by her side.
Suna ducked and dodged the first magical spell that the earth mage threw at her. It was a huge fist made of earth and rock and who knows what else. It reminded her of another earth mage she knew... Then all three seemed to catch on to the dark mage’s intent of destroying the tower, and they all made a beeline for him. She followed, and saw that the dark mage had thrown dark spells around two of the civilians in an attempt to slow them down. It was a good plan, so she followed suit with a restraining spell of her own.
Rallentando. Sound magic circled around one of the flying mage’s legs and wings, slowing it down. It turned around, now intent on firing his magic spells on her. She raised her aura sword, using it to deflect the incoming magic spells. From the corner of her eye, she saw Hans take care of the bell, slicing through it cleanly and quickly. Good. He took care of the root problem. With that, the tower started to crumble, and the poisonous effects on the civilians started to abate...but so did their magic.
The mage that had been attacking her was falling, and without a second of hesitation, she dove down to catch the falling citizen. She barely made it, but she caught the teenager. "Are you all right?" She asked him, but heard nothing. "Oh, right!" She waved away her sound magic so she and Hans could both hear again. She landed on the ground and let him off.
"Are you hurt anywhere?" She gave him a sweep, checking for any injuries. Then she did the same with the other two civilians that Hans had saved. They all seemed fine, so that was a good sign. Hopefully the poison did not have any other ill effects.
She heard the crunching of snow, and looked up to see her man walking towards her. Her feet instinctively drew her to him. "Fancy moves back there," she remarked, and once he was close enough, brushed away a piece of hair from his eyes. She would have said something more, if the wind had not suddenly started to pick up and the sky shifted to show a descending figure...
- fine - (for now)

Approved. Though I 100% get why you'd post it in this manner, please make sure to offer a link to the mission chain in the future so graders can confirm the information being copy/pasted. I had to look it up because I wasn't sure on what the rank of the mission was.
You'll both get no yul because I don't feel like checking1189 yul.
Looking forward to seeing how this all comes to an end. F in chat for the conman. except not really lmaooooooooo. I wonder how Suna feels having to counter sound magic by using her own sound magic to not hear it.
