Echo would toss and turn in his bed trying to go back to sleep, however the sun peeping in through the windows had already gotten to his eyes and now he was doomed. As he finally began to accept defeat in this struggle he would simply lay there sitting still. After a few moments he would get up and head to the window and take in the landscape of his home.
After Echo had took a moment to think and breathe he would get dressed and then head downstairs to the main hall of his family’s estate. He would wear his normal attire which consisted of his green hunting shirt, along with his brown hunting pants, boots, and gloves. The final touch to his outfit everyday was the addition of his brown leather hunting vest, something he looked at as a prize possession.
Once in the main hall he would simply be greeted by a few of the many servants before grabbing a pice of toast from the breakfast buffet. After he had grabbed his slight breakfast pick me up he would make his way out the door so that he could make his way to the closest town. The town was only about 20 minutes away on a bad day so the trip wouldn’t take long in the slightest bit.
Once Echo had arrived in the town he would make his way to the tavern where he would find the job request board. The job request boards at taverns were useful for citizen’s with a little extra magic power to flex their stuff and to get a few extra dollars in their pocket. However for someone like Echo it was all just a part of the hunt, the hunt in this case was him honing his skills as an actual hunter.
Echo would walk into the tavern and would dart his eyes to the corner of the room, and it is there where he would see the request board. The board would be filled with a numerous number of general labor and purpose jobs. These were the types of jobs that would serve no harm to the taker, and were easy to complete. Echo would see a job listing that was to make a delivery for a glass maker. The item he would be delivering would be a pair of glasses, and he would be delivering it to some probably fat and lazy noble. *Oh the joy.* he thought to himself as he ripped the paper from off the board which it sat.
Echo would then make his way out of the tavern and would begin to walk the town making his way to the glasses maker who was located not too far from where Echo currently was. The problem would however come in when it would been time to take the glasses to their intended recipient, as the noble who needed the glasses was all the way in Airse Garse. Such a thing may have been hard on a normal adventurer, however being a part of the Jaegar family Echo already knew several fast and much more direct routes to get to the nobleman within the forsaken region.
After a short walk Echo would arrive at the shop of the glass maker. As he walked in the walls were lined with many, many shelves of glassware. Glassware of every shape, size, and even color could be found here in this man’s shop, its no wonder the nobles would want him to craft their eyewear. Looking around the shop he would see a man standing behind the counter, although he was currently bent over as if he was under his counter looking for something. “Hey, sir I’m looking for the owner. He put out a job request about needing a delivery made.” After Echo spoke the man would immediately pick himself up from his bent over position to look Echo in the eye and say “Ah so happy you could come to help me.”

Persephone's mother had always been a person who had taken kindly to any person that passed by her village. She was kind and pleasant, and sat the people who entered her home with a nice warm meal cooked in a broth made up of her restorative mineral water. Each person had the pleasure of having a nice conversation made up of her mother and Persephone herself. Its why people found it quite unusual when they met back up with the caregiver's daughter. To learn what happened, they tried their best to console Persephone on sight, only to be met when a consistent silence from Persephone. Some grew angry at Persephone for the coldness, while others couldn't find it fathomable. For such an open little girl to turn reclusive was a horrid sight. That was why she tried so hard to refuse her mother's request of helping the elderly glasses maker that enjoyed the company of Persephone's mother.
He had heard the stories and gabbed with Persephone's mother quite frequently. It wasn't unusual for her mother to go away from the village bimonthly to Aries Garse for a bit of tea with him, leaving Persephone to take over the caregiving duties while she was away. Ever since the events, the bimonthly trips had become biannual. Although Persephone wasn't sure why, she believed that it went along with her mother's loss of ambition. She never did like the idea of using people. She truly was a kind person that would do whatever she could to help others out. Yet, her relationship with the man had its benefits. He had quite the influence on others due to his outstanding charisma. It's what earned him a spot as one of the biggest influencers amongst the commoners. Through his own connections and hard work, he was able to gain recognition for his family's business. Her mother had hoped that her ambitions to become a magic knight would benefit from his help. So, she visited him as much as she could, gaining as much info as possible in order to understand the daily news on the magic knight exams, ways to charm the leaders of the squads, and etc. In the end...all that info had become useless.
Though, she was still able to help her daughter achieve her own dreams, and the man she once called her best friend would be able to give her a headstart on affecting her standing amongst the more sociable influencers. However, her issue with talking would be an issue towards that goal. She was nervous about it when she was meeting with people. They would usually try to force her to talk, goading her with the idea of not being such a weirdo. She couldn't, though, no matter how much she wanted to relieve that weight from her shoulders. That weight was the point of her vow, and to simply let it go because of minor inconveniences was not what she or her mother stood for. That was why she couldn't let herself break, especially in this scenario, no matter how much she wanted to.
As she walked down the streets of Aries Garse with an awkwardly closed off posture, she noticed the stagnant air surrounding her. The buildings that surrounded the area stopped cool breezes from drifting through, unlike her home. This was the perfect place for businesses that required delicate work. A place where the wind could cause humans to make detrimental mistake. Without the usual midday breeze, her hair drooped down more than usual. Her sunset kimono also seemed a lot less flowy. It was almost difficult to see that a man much taller than her walked inside with a ripped piece of paper in her hand. She assumed that he was here for the job, and she felt a bit anxious about his arrival. More social interactions was not her goal, but she had to bite the bullet. She had to do what her mother thought best, and if she refused, then she would be failing her own self. So, she clenched her fist as she opened the door to the two men talking.
Her face become a bright pink as she awkwardly waved to the two of them. The glassmaker looked over to her and said "It's nice to see you again Persephone. I understand that you aren't talking as of late, right?" She blinked twice, not realizing that her mother had told him of the news, and then nodded her head rapidly 5 times. "Well, its no matter. You'll still be able to do my job efficiently I presume." He then redirected his attention to the unknown man saying, "As long as you are ok with working with a mute girl, everything should be fine. People are fickle, and the more people I add in, the more likely things can go wrong, especially with turmoil. Can I trust the two of you to work well together?" Persephone nodded once more, and then looked over to her maybe partner.

As Echo was just beginning his conversation with the shopkeeper a girl would walk into the shop, seeming interrupting the conversation as the attention would shift to her. The shopkeeper would then begin to talk to the female as if he knew her personally, and as things went on it would seem like he very much did. From simply listening to the (one sided)conversation being held between the two, it would seem the girl was a mute or at least she didn’t talk. Either way that seemed like a lot to deal with for Echo as he had wanted to hurry up and make the delivery. He would look to the shopkeeper and begin to speak saying “Listen man I don’t got all day to be baby sitting so mute chick. Just let me make the delivery so I can hurry up and finish I still have to go hunting today.”
The shopkeeper would simply rob his chin before saying “Nonsense I insist you two go together. Here take the glasses and begone both of you!” Echo would fall to the floor in a comedic manner due to his request seemingly being ignore. Echo would quickly get back up as the shopkeeper would hand him the glasses in a small leather box, just small enough for Echo to put it in his waist sack. He would let off a sigh before he began to walk out the door and say “Fuck it whatever I guess. Aye come on Mutey before I changed my mind about this whole thing.” He would then walk out the shop with a gesture for the woman to follow him out.
Echo didn’t really work to well with others, but he could sometimes make an exception. Besides the fact that the woman was easy on the eyes made the situation slightly better. However one thing that stood out to the man is that she had the air of a commoner about her. The fact that she was mute also gave off the feeling that she was weak, almost as weak as the prey that Echo hunted on a regular basis. The young man would just push all these thoughts to the side for the time being and would just focus on getting the job done as fast as possible. Echo would think to himself about the silver lining of the situation *Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to have a pet for a day or so.*
As he was now outside he would begin to walk down the street hoping the mute girl was behind him. The job was simple and shouldn’t take more than a few hours tops, even if this girl chose to walk slow as a snail. He would then stop dead in his tracks looking rather stupid as he would yell out loud “Damn it, I forgot for the directions to the recipient!” He would then prepare to turn around and go get the directions to the location, not thinking a mute woman could be a good navigator.

Persephone winced at the man before her. He seemed to be a complete foil for the kind glasses maker. The glasses maker didn't question her integrity, nor her partner's. It was clear in his facial expressions that he understood the dynamic that would form between the two up and coming mages. Yet, that seemed to be his plan, because no matter what happened, it would be a beneficial experience for his friend's daughter. She had already understood his goal in all of this. The job was real, of course, but it was tailored towards her. Her mother's connection to him made it feel like this was all a test for her. Whether she succeeded or not would affect her mother's perception of her, as well as the respect she had towards Persephone's goals. The craftsman understood that Echo was going to be troublesome for her. He had perfectly created a scenario that Persephone would have to persevere through. Just like how he was with his art, he was delicate and meticulous with his plan.
Though, Persephone was questioning whether she even wanted to be apart of said experience. Echo was seemingly arrogant, especially when he decided to call her his "pet." She knew that the job would be unfavorable, but she also understood that it would be just as embarrassing for her to quit just because of an unbearable person. If the magic knights was truly going to be the way she honored her mother, then she needed to learn that people will look down upon her. She's both a commoner, and a mute. Those of the upper class who hadn't dealed with hardships filled the magic knights, and its those people that will constantly torment her. All she could do was shrug it off. She had a duty to fulfill, and it was never going to get easier for her. Every time she has gone out and done something in the same light, she always second guessed herself. Her brain could never stop going over the possibilities of quitting or failing.
These thoughts constantly plagued her mind, and it was happening again and again. She was feeling weaker and weaker as she started the process of going towards the location. That was why she had suddenly perked up from her regular posture to one that was a bit more lifted whenever she was given the opportunity to take the lead for once. Her shoulders weren't pulled down by gravity as much as it was before, and her gaze lifted up from the ground as she looked at Echo, revealing a pleasant face and resting smile. As revealed before, Persephone's mother had many connections. People from all the regions in the common and forsaken land had visited Briar at least once. Over time, she understood the importance of navigation as a magic knight, and intended to share it with Persephone. So, she used her knowledge of the people she knew to create a map of the outer regions of the country. Persephone always kept a copy of it with her.
She reached into the right sleeve of her kimono and pulled out a small map, smiling more brightly at Echo before opening it up and pointing towards a seemingly random spot on the map. Though, it wasn't random at all. It was actually an estimation of their current location. She tried to portray this by pointing to herself then down at the map 2 times exactly. She traced her finger along the point and slowly traced it up towards the yellow speck. The map was detailed with different strokes of color that represented pathways, rivers, etc. There weren't details of things like houses, trees, or whatever else, but it still held its complexities. Secret pathways layered the maps, some that couldn't be seen by the hidden eye, some that were underground, and others that required unique situations to use them such as low tides. Persephone's mother didn't explain most of the paths on the map, but she did reveal a collection of connected alleyways that should help them cut through the city without much notice. In order to try and get the message across, she then pointed over to the dark opening off to the side of them. Hopefully, he would understand that and agree to follow the path laid out by Persephone's mother...as long as he isn't prissy that is.

Just as Echo was about to turn around to get directions from the glass maker, the mute girl that Echo thought about claiming as his pet had came scurrying along. When she approached she would pull out a map, that appeared well made with many different routes and ways of transport. As a hunter Echo was impressed by the complexities of this map, but he was not impressed that he was now relying on a mute for directions. He would sigh to himself internally, as the girl would show their current location by pointing at the map and then herself. She would then trace her finger across the map up until it hit a yellow speck.
From what Echo could tell that yellow speck must have been where they had to go, and he now had a idea of where they were gonna go. Just as the male was about to try and take the lead of this adventure he was rudely cut off before he could even begin, as the woman would point towards a small alley opening off to the side of the duo. Echo didn’t intend on taking that route to get to the destination but, this way was probably more time effective. The only real problem Echo had was that he didn’t like being in dirty alleys too much, but he would make an exception for today.
Making his way towards the alley, once at the entrance Echo would make his way down into it. As he walked he would hope the mute young lady was either behind or beside him. The red haired hunter along with his ‘pet’ would probably walk for about 15 or so minutes before they would find themselves at a small house. The house had no remarkable exterior features or outstanding qualities so to speak. It seemed to be a small normal run of the mill home. Echo walked up to the property looking at it with confusion thinking to himself *This can’t be the place.* However his memory would speak to him and he would remember this was indeed the house, or rather the area that was marked on the map.
Echo would then give the case that contained the glasses to the girl, and look at her with a blank emotionless stare before saying “Go make yourself useful and take it on to the people in the house. Imma go ahead and go get my money from the old man.” The red head would then walk off leaving the girl to finish things up.
Persephone and Echo had awkwardly made their way to the destination. Neither of them talked to each other due to Persephone's vow of silence, and Echo's...well...unique personality. He seemed to have this ideal that she was beneath him, and although she wouldn't contest it, she definitely didn't like that idea. Being a commoner, Persephone was someone who had become looked down on by anyone who was anything more. It wasn't until her mother had showed kindness towards these looming figures, that Persephone realized the pure unimportance of reputation. Someone's outer persona doesn't affect who a person truly is. Some titles and words of mouth are true about many people within the kingdom, but for people like Persephone and her mother, those things don't apply. Both have had extraordinary prowess with their magic, being able to mend it to their will, where others have simply become stumped by their's. This is something that can't be taken away from her, and she refused to let Echo do that as well. So, she clenched her fists and walked down the alleyway that ended up leading to a minimalistic home for any type of lord.
She was nervous about what would come next. She was on her own, now that Echo left, and she didn't quite now how it would all work out in the end. It was extremely possible that Persephone could end up slipping on her kimono, or trip on a crack in the stone patio. All the possibilities filled her head as she took the glasses from Echo. If she messed up, then there was no doubt that he would truly visualize her as worthless. Nothing but the lowest of the low, and she needed to prove to him and people like him, that she was worth more than they ever could be. She rolled her shoulders back and leveled her gaze forwards as her whole stature fell into place. Her kimono transformed from a cloak of fabric meant to hide her to a well fitting garment that complimented her beauty. Her hair did the same as it turned into a stream of black fading into purple. She was truly faithful in herself, and she couldn't be any prouder. She wondered what her mother would think of this transformation...
She knocked on the door and was welcomed in by the servant of the lord. The only one apparently, as she would soon figure out from looking around the house. It seemed that the servant was the right hand man of the lord. He seemed kind and genuine, and she could feel the magic he possessed. It was powerful, almost as powerful as the nobles she'd seen enter and leave her home. She smiled seeing someone with that kind of bond to a noble, because it meant that her hope wasn't lost. The servant was able to make a name for himself through the lord, though, she didn't know what the servant used this leverage for. For all she knew, it could've just been a friendly bond rather than a transactive one. She did giggle at the thought of this, though. It wasn't likely that that was the case for either party, but it was pleasant to think about.
A noble and a commoner being friends just because...she wished that could've been the case for everyone. However, the only way a noble could ever show kindness to a commoner, is if they are able to be of use. That was why Persephone's mother was so popular amongst the nobles. She did something that no one else ever did, show hospitality to even the scummiest of people. As the years went by, Persephone pondered if this was because of genuine kindness, or her mother's ambition. She still didn't know the answer, but she hoped that both could be true. That her mother's kindness assisted her ambition, and not that her kindness was tainted because of her ambition. She thought about this up until the point where she entered the room of the lord.
He was stuck in his bed, staring at a framed photo in his hands. "I haven't been able to see this photo in days. You'd think I'd learn my lesson after trying to do the same thing each day. Though, it's one of my favorites. It's the day me and my friend first met. We were children back then, so we didn't know any better than to be friendly. It's one of the few photos of us together where we don't seem so stiff. Others are filled with the idea that he is just my servant and nothing more. Obviously that isn't true, but its still nice to see something that is completely obvious. That's why I love this picture." Persephone stood there and understood what he was saying. He thought in the same way that she did, and to visualize that was quite a remarkable thing. She smiled and bowed towards him, slowly walking over with his glasses. As he reached for them, she placed it in his hands.
The first thing he did when he put them on, was analyze Persephone's face. She didn't know what he was looking for, but she understood that he was just trying to observe the person before her. She wondered what he could possibly be thinking, and her only way to ask was blocked. So, she sat through the next minute awkwardly staring at the lord before he smiled at Persephone and looked back down at his photo. "You remind me of him. You seem to be all about duty. You're on a mission, and until you finish it, you won't be satisfied. Alexander gave up his ability to laugh with me because it wasn't apart of his goal to live satisfied with me. His goal was always having me laugh, smile, feel happy, and more. He's always been so good to me, and I wish for the day he could laugh with me again, like we were here." He then took in one deep breath before looking back at Persephone, "Now then, your job is finished. Thank you so much for providing me with the glasses." Persephone smiled back at him before bowing once more and exiting the Lord's room. As she began walking out of the home, she looked to the servant washing the dishes in the kitchen. She couldn't see his face, but she could tell that he was smiling.
