"Another day in this accursed place" thought Roman while walking down the halls of the gothic manor that formed the Blake estate, the centre of the province his family controls, and the manor Roman called home. Putting on his usual soft smile, he greets the staff working on the grounds of the manor who informs him that his half brother, Zaven, will be entertaining a guest at some point within the next few hours. Not wanting to interact with anyone, any believing that his brother would want to be bothered, Roman made his way out of the estate and went to the training ground.
Stepping up to face the training dummy, Roman takes in a deep breathe and opens up his grimoire, a black leather bound book with shiny polished decals resembling shards of obsidian. As he exhales, he focuses his mind and speaks up "Shadow Creation Magic: Dark Shard". As he casts his spell, shards of obsidian sprouts from the ground around him as well as a hilt-like piece of obsidian. As Roman's hands grasps the hilt, his shadow as well as the shadows of the shards connect to each piece then form into a sword.
Once the sword finishes to form, Roman squares up against the dummy before willing the shadows to elongate the sword, forming it into a whip and lashes out at the dummy, not causing damage to the wooden target. After a few lashes and a series of close range strikes, with sweat dripping down his brow, he straightens himself up and dismissing his spell. Wiping his forehead, he turns to see a young woman with brown hair tied twin tails. "Oh. Good day to you." he says giving a small bow as a greeting. "I'm Roman Vesuvius Blake. Am i to assume that you are a guest of my brother's?".
Roman summons forth numerous sharp obsidian shards of various sizes from the earth. A small portion of the shards are wrapped in shadows to form a hilt, pommel and guard. As soon as Roman's fingers wrap around the hilt, shadows spring worth from the grip and consumes the remaining obsidian shard and connect that shards into a formation that looks like a blade. If needed, Roman can extend the distance between each shard, turning the blade into a bladed whip. Roman does not have control over the individual shards and can not fire them towards a target

What Roman thought of as accursed, Verena believed to be fascinating. While she was no stranger to living out in Grand Mana Zones, having called Aristaeus' Basin home of a sort, the idea that an entire family would have moved out here. This Grand Mana Zone was a recent construction; by no means had it always been here. She remembered first hearing about it after the death of Sven, Lilitu, and Ito -- the daemons who were involved Kikka. The daemons whom she had been present for their demise as part of the collective group responsible for driving them out.[break][break]
Verena had contacted her captain in hopes to visit the estate, as well as learn more about the man's late distant relative, Vanilla Blake. The sister of Vaile Blake. It wasn't a secret that Verena harbored very real concern for the son of Vincent. She constantly worried about him and wanted to do something for him. She knew she couldn't bring back his sister, but the Reinsberg heiress hoped to learn more about his beloved sister.[break][break]
However, her tour had come to a pause. A matter Zaven needed to attend to had arisen, and so she was permitted to wander the grounds as a guest if she so chose to do so. Doing so allowed her to further appreciate the architecture that went into building out here. It was far in a far more hostile environment than the Basin was comparatively. The pressure from the mana was openly hostile, so it was surprising that anyone would want to live out here.[break][break]
As strong as the heiress had become, however, it was barely enough to phase her. Something more like an itch. Irritating at best, but with enough focus, it simply went away. What did catch her attention, however, was the sight of another Blake who seemed to be training. Verena left the interior to get a better look at things.[break][break]
The Reinsberg's hair was neatly braided into a ponytail. The mantle of the Golden Dawn proudly rested over her shoulders. Though it might not have been the best compliment to her wear over her dark blue jumpsuit and black dress, it was something she was proud to wear and represent. Trodding through the area, the brunette decided to watch the Blake's training.[break][break]
This relative of Zaven's seemed to be aware of her presence, greeting her and introducing himself. Verena nodded to his question. "That's correct," she said, taking notice of the strange glass-like material that was conjured up as a result of his spell. "My name is Verena Reinsberg. I recently was accepted into the Golden Dawn," she explained.[break][break]
"I asked Zaven if I may visit to learn more about Vanilla Blake, but he's currently engaged in matters of the house. At any rate," Verena began, shifting the topic. "You seem proficient in swordsmanship. That spell -- it was cast with a dual element, wasn't it? Shadow, of course, befitting the Blake family. And what else, if you don't mind me asking?"[break][break]
With her introduction as well as her interest in magic, it was possible that Roman might have heard of her. Verena was known as the Elemental Heiress for a reason, possessing multiple elements, and was a skilled golem practitioner. While Zaven was a superior mage compared to her, Verena was something of a prodigy in the craft of golem creation and manipulation who was devoted to her craft, similar to the likes of Cyrus Elwood.

As the young lady, now identifying herself as a member of his brother's Magic Knight squad, seemed to compliment his his swordsmanship, Roman looked away slightly with a flash of embarrassment at the knowledge that he was seen by a Magic Knight, though it lasted by a moment. As he caressed the smooth flat side of one of the pieces of obsidian that formed the hilt of his weapon, Roman's focused back on the red-eyed brunette as the question of his elements was asked. He approach Verena and showed the shard that he held in his hand. "Its obsidian." he spoke, his voice a little somber as he recalls his late parent. "It's the element i got from my mother." As he ended the sentence, he looked back at the young woman, centering himself as he returns to the conversation. "I thank you for praising my skills with a sword but you needn't. They are the skills of an amateur that just got his grimoire." he says with a tone of voice that seemed to indicate that it was an attempt at humour, to which he lets out an awkward little chuckle. After taking a second to focus, Roman drops the shard of obsidian on the floor of the training grounds. "But now that you know what i can use, Wouldn't it be fair that you tell me what kind of magic you use?" Roman asks, keeping his usual soft smile as the thought that the mantle of the Golden Dawn does not suit Verena's overall style of fashion.

Verena wasn't exactly what one would call a master swordsman nor had she studied swordsmanship. It wasn't particularly a field she cared for, as weapons to her were a means to hurt others more than magic was. That wasn't to say she devalued the craft, especially given her best friend's fiancee's love of it. If anything, she appreciated his dedication and love for swords. However, for her personally, weapons were not something that she saw much utility in beyond their ability to hurt others. In that sense, Verena wasn't the most knowledgeable on what constituted for good swordplay or not.[break][break]
However, what did matter to her was the mention of the magic. Obsidian. That was another magic she hadn't yet learned. In her studies, Verena knew that obsidian was a brittle substance; in laymen's terms, it was something like volcanic glass. She recalled hearing that it was sometimes used as a scalpel for difficult surgeries by those who weren't blessed by mana or didn't possess an aptitude for healing magic. Magically, however, she was curious to see how it worked.[break][break]
"Amateur or not, everyone starts somewhere when developing a skill. Even prodigies aren't overnight masters at a craft," Verena responded with a reassuring tone. "I use Summoner magic though. It's a magic that allows the user to learn a variety of magics and use them to build various golems."[break][break]
"For example," she said as a small bird made of shadow manifested in the palm of her hand. With a single thought, its wings began to flap as it rose up just a little way, before dispersing into shadow. "Though I also do possess carbon magic, I'm afraid I'm not as skilled in its usage as I am with my golem creation."[break][break]
Verena suddenly leaned in close, staring at the young man. She placed a hand under her chin, thinking about something before returning to her spot a comfortable distance away. "Might you have any other examples of your obsidian magic?" she inquired.[break][break]
Verena was confident that she could pick up the information about his magic by observation in its utility, though she wanted to see more of it in use. CLoser, if possible to better understand the flow of mana.
