Maria sat on the pier alone with her gauntlets on. She was supposed to be training, preparing for the Magic Knight's entrance exam but she found herself still dreading the event. What if nobody wants her? What if she is unable to show off? These questions were the reason she was at this pier but they were also the reason she was not moving. The girl took a deep breath. She could not be afraid forever. She had to train. She had to improve her magic. She had three ideas for spells she wanted to work on. The first of these ideas was a simple healing spell. It was the most important one if she thought about it. If she could sustain through the damage, then she could easily keep fighting and training harder. Also, maybe she would be more useful if she could help her siblings.
The first thing she did was close her eyes and envision creating a gem with her magic. She wanted a gem that would best transmute the healing properties of her magic. There were many different gems she could pick from. From rubies to sapphires to even emeralds but one gem suddenly came to mind. It was perfect and the girl held out her hand. Collecting mana she built up energy and slowly formed the representation of her benevolent will. It was going to be some combination of blue and white with a brilliant shine as light passed through it. She worked on smoothing the gem, spinning it around until it was glistening inside the blanket warmth of the sun. Finally it was formed. Hecatolite was the official name if you were some boring rock researcher but if you had any real class, you would call it a moonstone. It was such a cuter name and it also held with it a sort of mysteriousness about it. With that being said, she was ready to move on the next part of the spell, the actual healing.
She walked the pier looking for something that could be injured. Sure she could injure herself but why would she want to ruin her own skin with self made injuries. It was not pretty nor was it worth being asked questions if she failed to fully get rid of any scars. She had to keep up her cute appearance after all. As she walked along the pier, she found a bird lying on the ground barely squawking. It looked hurt enough. So she raised her hand and focused again on her magic. A moonstone appeared inside of her hand. Then she sent the stone out and it sort of pelted the bird in the head. The bird squawked in surprise and freaked out as the gem stone stuck to its head. At first nothing happened but then an aura of magic radiated out of the stone and started filling up the bird with energy. It was successful... well sort of. The bird stood up and then checked its feathers. It ran towards the ocean and jumped but immediately fell unable to fly. Maria moved to the edge of the pier and looked down. The bird was panicking in the water for a few seconds before a bubble blurb under it and a fist jumped and bit the bird's head and dragged it under. The girl covered her mouth and then backed away. Maybe she should practice it a little more before she writes it off as truly successful.
The next bird she found somehow had a broken leg. There was absolutely no way to figure out why the leg was snapped in half. It was so strange but that was not what was important. It was important that the girl used her magic. So she raised her hand, spawned her moonstone and then sent it at the bird. It stuck to the bird's body and then started to radiate healing energy. The leg unbroke itself and the bird was finally able to fly. As a thank you, the bird flew at Maria and pecked her in her head. Maria flailed her arms around in a panic while running away. She succeeded but at what cost.
She raised her hand and summoned the moonstone again. Then she attached it to herself to recover from the ungrateful bird's attack. She could feel the radiating energies envelope her. With her head not hurting she now had to make a spell that would allow her to better deal with attacks like that bird that was plaguing her. For this spell, she needed endurance and a gem that would help represent that. She closed her eyes and cycled through the many jewels but she decided to settle on Agate. It was not the prettiest gemstone but for how she wanted the spell to work it suited it quite well.
She held out her hand and began the process of creating a new gem stone. It was not one color nor was it made of a particular color. Instead it was layered with various colors and reminded her of something you get if you melted a bunch of crayons in a pot... not that she actually did such a thing. What loser would waste time melting crayons like a crazy person. Anyway, the stone was going to be just as colorful but also durable. It took a bit more time than it took to make the moonstone but the girl did it. A collection of Agates of different colors filled her hand. The girl then crushed them in her hand and then crossed her arms. The dust from the crushed gems surrounded her and collected on her skin and clothes. Small nodes of Agate speckled her body. She could feel her magic radiating through her body and her body becoming more durable. Now it was time to test the spell's effect.
Maria walked out into the open and the bird she healed returned. She laughed at it for she was smarter than it and only used its rage to further advance her own objectives. The bird and its small bird brain was too stupid to realize it was being manipulated and proceeded to start pecking her head. She expected it not to hurt but... well, she could see blood dripping down her face. Her spell failed. She let out a cry of pain and started running away. As she cursed the bird, she tried to use her spell again, crossing her arms and focusing harder on her mana. The nodes of gems formed on her skin. Then the girl held up her hand to summon the moonstone and close up her wounds. She then stopped and turned to the bird with tears in her eyes. It would take a bit for the wound to completely close up but she was sure her Endurance buff would work this time. Luckily the spell worked. The bird pecked her and it did not hurt. The girl then grabbed the bird, now that she did not have to flinch from the damage. She did not want it doing anything else to her that might hurt and she did not want to activate her mana skin either.
The girl pulled out a string of cloth and tied the bird's mouth and feet together and placed it on the ground. The bird squirmed on the ground while the girl dusted herself off. It was finally time to make her last spell and this one would allow her to get revenge on the bird. She planned to make a smell that would amplify her power. It was probably the most important one as without it, she would have no way to really beat up other mages and prove herself at the Magic Knights Entrance Exam. For this spell, she needed a gem that would represent power. She held out her hand and then started cycling through gems in her head. The first thing that came to mind was Amber. She was not sure if it was truly powerful but the idea of it trapping bugs and stuff meant that it was strong enough to defeat the insects that were her opponents. This bird was also an insect to her; no, it was less than an insect.
She pushed magic into her hand and slowly spawn a gemstone in her hand. This one was much simpler than any of the other two gems as it was just one color with no complicated effects. It had a pretty yellow color and was a bit translucent. It was not clear enough that you could see through it like glass but it was easy to see anything directly touching the back of the gem. The girl then crushed the gem in her hand then slammed her fist together. Amber swallowed her weapon and coated her feet. She could feel the power of the gems empowering her own strength. The girl inspected her hands and started cracking her knuckles. It could be improved as the magic was not fully spread out evenly through her body but it was acceptable enough to at least test. The girl walked up to the bird and then slammed her foot down next to it. There was noticeably more power behind her attack. One could argue that she was twice as strong as she was without the help of magic. This was acceptable. So now she had to test all three of her spells. Well, she only had to reactivate one more spell because she was still recovering her wounds. She had to note to herself that her healing needed a bit more work to be more effective.
Crossing her arms, she enhanced her endurance with the power of Agate and then she walked up to the bird. She untied the string freeing the bird and then proceeded to take a stance. The bird flew into the air and then dived at her like the dumb bird it was. Maria rolled out the way and then punched the air. The bird dodged and pecked her hand arm. It hurt but she was able to shrug it off. Her healing magic also started closing the wound slowly. Meanwhile Maria swung her fist at the bird in retaliation but the bird just dodged her again. It seemed speed was going to be a factor in this but as the girl was warming up in the battle. Her foot work was becoming more agile and she found her swings getting closer and closer to the bird. She was still getting wrecked by the persistent attacks of the bird. If only she had an actual defensive spell to protect her. This would hurt so much less. She took another swing at the bird. She missed but feathers dispersed from the location. She was getting closer. There was still hope.
Maira lunged at the bird and slapped it down onto the ground. The bird cawed in pain flapping its wings. Something was broken in it but it was not out of the fight. The bird took to the sky and started circling. Then it dived bomb down. Maria braced herself. She was done with this battle. So she was not going to move. She was going to make sure the bird knew she was no push over and whatever damage it did to her, she would dish out twice as hard. The bird slammed into her shoulder. Maria Took the hit. It hurt but she could bare it thanks to her spells. Then Maria held her hands out and clapped the bird, smashing it between her hands. She did not hit it too hard as she did not want to get bird blood on her clothes but the bird was clearly injured and disoriented. Then Maria dashed behind the bird and kicked it into the ocean. The bird struggled and at first jumped into the air and bit its head and dragged it under water. The girl smiled, satisfied with her work. Now she just has to make sure she keeps practicing so she can be perfect for the Exam.
