Valo's first official mission as a magic knight, his cool demeanor on the outside was doing it's best to hide his actual excitement. But he knew had to take this seriously, not only was it his first mission it was one that was considered a higher rank than he currently was. A mission that was probably by all accounts a little to difficult for him at his current level, but all that meant was he had to push himself in order to complete it. Of course he had Artemis on this mission, and because of her current rank and standing in the guild he was able to go on this mission with her. But he didn't want to just rely on her for this mission, or even just be at her side for the occasional help from time to time. Like she would need it, he was pretty sure a mission like this wouldn't be that difficult for her. Valo had all intention to do his very best, and put his absolute best foot forward on this mission not just play the sidekick.
[break][break]The mission details were fairly simple, some goblins have been causing quite a few disturbances in the town of Hapshass. Hapshass was known for it's healers and apothecaries all throughout Clover surely a very viable asset to the Clover Kingdom in general. So any disturbances whatsoever including ones such as goblins had to be dealt with accordingly and swiftly. This was Valo's first time in Haphass though, so while he did some research this was still an entirely new land to him. Growing up he never left Kikka never had a reason to, Valo did always want to explore new lands though perhaps learn something new, see something interesting that he hadn't seen back home. Back at the Green Mantis base in Hage he was still getting used to as well.
[break][break]Valo arrived in town prepared and ready, his arms steady at his side at a comfortable walking pace. He wore his black combat pants, and boots with a white t-shirt under a medium weight black jaket, his green mantis cloak came down to his waist something that he still getting accustomed to fashion wise. He wasn't quite fond of it particularly but it was a requirement that he was doing his best to follow.
[break][break]Since this was Valo's first mission he didn't know exactly how to move forward once arrived. Well more or less didn't know if their was proper ruling or systems in place to follow. But he didn't want to look to foolish, so despite his blood pumping him to do so, like he would have in the past. He put himself at ease and awaited for Artemis. Upon her arrival he would ask her a few questions, just to see how missions of this rank are handled and the best way to go about them.
[break][break]"Artemis would the first thing we do is to ask the commoners questions of where they have seen the goblins? Perhaps gain more intel of their location? Then we find them and crush them?" Valo asked cracking his knuckles ready to go.

Artemis had offered to take the young man, Valo Stark, on a mission. But the thing was, she also made sure to choose a harder mission to start off with. Why not? To gain strength, one must always try their best to exceed expectations. But there was something more to this than just pushing Valo to newer heights. Artemis herself also wanted to know just how much Valo knew about himself. This was more in the combat sense. Strength came not only in the ability to beat people, or even monsters and mana beasts into submission, but also in the ability to understand one’s own limits. If a mage decided to go all out, uncaring and unwavering, they might die a senseless and useless death. Yes, they broke their boundaries, but they also lost their life in the process. Valo Stark was a new Magic Knight, and Artemis wanted to instill these lessons early on. At the end of the day, she was going to make sure that Valo Stark was not going to put his neck on the line for something as meaningless as a mission. And to do that, she needed to place him in a situation where he was outside of his comfort zone. Hence, the mission that was tagged as Intermediate.[break][break]
Hapshass, however, was a home town to her. This might also have been another reason why she chose this specific mission. Not only was Hapshass the center of apothecaries and other types of herbalism and trade, it was also the home of several noble families. One of these noble families is the Somerset clan, Artemis’ own blood. So, taking this mission was two fold. One, she wanted to push the young man, and hopefully teach him life lessons that he needed to know to survive his lifetime as a Magic Knight. And two, she wanted to make sure her own town was safe from these goblins that had dared disrupt her beloved home.[break][break]
Walking around, Artemis could not help but smile as some of the commoners were able to recognize her. The current Head of the Somerset Family was well-known in these parts, particularly because she had made sure to keep everything as fair as possible for the commoners. It was not as if she loved commoners. No, far from it. She saw them as people. Something that some of the nobility still struggle to accept. Commoners are the same as the Nobility save their heritage and birth right. As a nobility, she knew she had a job in providing for the people who looked up to her. Benevolent, understanding, and fair, the traits she tried to embody as the Head of the Somerset Family, though her mother was in charge of the family business. Even while she was absent, however, she made sure to give some time to answer letters from her mother about familial decisions. She was, at the very least, a responsible yet absent Head. Though, at the end of the day, the citizens still like her, and by extension, her family.[break][break]
It was then that she saw Valo. He looked just a little off, though it seems it might have something to do with the Green Mantis Magic Knight mantle he was wearing. Artemis knew he would grow into it eventually, as most people do. As he approached her, he asked her a valid question, to which she responded in kind.[break][break]
“The best way to deal with missions like these is to talk to the locals. Find out anything you might need to know.” Artemis started, before she held her hand up. "However, I am a sensory mage. Before arriving into town, I was able to sense the goblins just north of the town itself. They seem to have set up their camp just by the tree line. Most likely, they will be looking to attack with the cover of the night. This means that we need to do something about it before the moon rises from her slumber.”[break][break]
If this were a proper mission, she would let the young man handle it throughout. However, she was invested in Hapshass. And it was already mid morning, which meant that they had about six hours left before the goblins decide to attack. It would be better to deal with them outside the town than inside, preventing any unnecessary injuries and damages. [break][break]
“I trust you know where north it. At this point, you will lead and I will follow.” Artemis announced as she gestured towards the north entrance of the town. “You are now the team leader, Valo Stark of the Green Mantis.”

When Artemis arrived the locals and scenery seemed to adjust, they paid no mind to him why would they. But Artemis was receiving head nods and smiles, as if they knew her Valo put it together rather quickly that this was probably her home town. But there was something else, they were just head nods and smiles of hello but more of a admiration and respect for her. She must have been really important to them, perhaps a noble which wouldn't surprise him at all given her demeanor and aura. Seeing Artemis smile and give back the same respect, she was receiving made her seem much more humble you could tell she didn't just bask in all the admiration to feed her ego. But simply received it and returned it with proper formality. Valo was learning more and more about Artemis, she was very different compared to his friends back home something he was going to have to get used to and perhaps learn from.
After hearing that Artemis had already sensed where the goblins were before they even reached town, it baffled him a bit. He knew how sensory worked but he didn't know it could be used to work at such a distance and to make things so convenient. There essentially was no need to ask any of the locals any questions, Valo made a mental note to work on his sensory skills back at base next time he was training. "You were able to sense them from such a distance?? So that's what top wizards are capable of huh?" he said to Artemis while looking north and making his way towards the tree line that she had mentioned. He didn't want to waste to much time, while it was still mid morning he wanted to at least get a good idea of their numbers and camp plus like Artemis mentioned it was ideal they attack before the moon rises.
Valo was also surprised when Artemis made him the team leader, his first mission that was above his rank and he was appointed leader this was a test indeed. A test that he was determined to pass at any cost. "So you're making me leader to, that fine by me. I'll try to not disappoint." he said to her going into a jog towards Hapshass's north entrance. Now when it came to leading Valo was quite used to it, being the leader of his gang back home in Kikka, he was comfortable with it. But this wasn't a simple scheme or job he would try back home. This was a mission for the Magic Knights, and failure could lead to innocents getting hurt, injured and maybe worse. Failure was not a option here in Valo's mind. Plus this being Artemis's home town made it even more dire she wasn't going to allow any of her people back home get hurt. Making his way north just past the trees, a small camp of goblins started to come into view. He started to move forward slowly lowering his body real low and hiding behind a tree, a safe enough distance for them to keep a good eye on them.
"From the looks of it there is only two in the camp right now, the mission briefing stated at least six of them. We should probably initiate an attack on the two now, and pick them off before the other's arrive." he said to Artemis, wanting her feedback and to see if she had any other ideas in mind. Given her sensory skills she could probably track the others as well.
Artemis followed Valo out the north entrance of the town. It seems that the young man was at least comfortable with taking charge of the mission. That was a first good sign that this might just go well. At least we’ll enough for a junior ranked mage taking on a higher ranked mission. Though, to be fair, Artemis chose a mission that was only a single rank higher than what the young man’s current rank within the Green Mantises. As with any beginner, Junior Rank Fifth class was where you started off. And for the most part, a Magic Knight only takes a mission within their tier. [break][break]
“There are Magic Knights who can do better than what I can.” Artemis shrugged, answering the young man’s question about the caliber of higher ranked mages. “Though I am no push over myself, my specialties lie in combat, instead of just sensory magic. I am what most would call a glass cannon.” There were of course, other terms for her. Most other mages would call her a coward, really. While Artemis had the capability to actually do quite a lot of damage, she was by far the more careful type of mage. Artemis never went into battle unless she knew she can actually take on the person. If she knew she couldn’t, then Artemis was the first to leave. A proponent of fighting another day, and probably one of the few who are that serve within the upper echelons of the Magic Knights. From what Artemis had seen so far, there seems to be a sentiment of: my life for the Clover Kingdom. Artemis definitely was against that. [break][break]
Her saying goes like this: Life is the most precious thing one is gifted, never squander it.[break][break]
“I am quite sure you will do just fine.” Artemis acknowledged Valo as they neared the goblin’s camp.[break][break]
The young mage stopped low. Creeping, and keeping a close eye on the goblin camp. That was a good tactic. Never run in even though technically they had the advantage. It is always good to consolidate a plan first before heading in, even though Artemis herself could possibly just take every single one of the goblins out for the count. However, this was supposed to be an exercise, and from what she can see, the young man was doing well enough. [break][break]
“Two.” Artemis took a moment to think. Technically speaking, his plan was sound. Take two out now, while their friends were away. The rest of the group will be crippled later on if they engaged them, and most importantly, killing the two might also just their companions later on, making them more prone to mistakes. It was a solid plan. However. “I suppose this is as good as we can get at the moment. The others are nowhere nearby, which means that these two will not be able to call in reinforcements even if they yelled.” Artemis expanded her senses, pin pointing the other four goblins. They were further into the forest itself. Most likely foraging. [break][break]
“Take then both out.” Artemis nodded towards the two goblins. This would be the best opportunity for the young man to show his strength, better now than when he was faced with the other four. “Show me the magic that you plan on using to be one of the best Magic Knights in history.” She supposed that might be good enough to motivate the young man. “Don’t worry about the other four, they are a bit ways away. Busy, from what I can sense. Foraging berries and possibly flint for their weapons.” Artemis turned her attention away now and waited for Valo to do his own thing. [break][break]
“I will warn you, goblins are very crafty creatures. With two of them present, they will most likely try to surround you on both sides.” Goblins were interesting little creatures that Artemis had often had to deal with when she had first started doing missions. “They are nifty little beings, so take caution.” She would continue before shrugging, “that’s all you will get from me. The rest is up to you.” The tidbit of information should be enough at least to help the man with dealing with the two goblins. Strong they might be for a beginner mage, they are still very much kill-able. Goblins are less known for brute strength, and more on the fact that they worked in groups. In large quantity, they are notoriously deadly. Two should just be enough to challenge Valo Stark and test his mettle.

Valo listened closely when Artemis said there were Magic Knights that can do what she can but better, which would make sense given how strong Artemis was that there was probably even more powerful magic knights. Furthering widening the scope in Valo's mind in just how vast the world of magic and it's knights was. But now was the time to focus on the task at hand Artemis gave him the essential go ahead, to take out the two goblins. She assured him that the other's were not near, and now was indeed the best time to take out the two. Once she gave him the little bit of info, Valo still in a low position started to move in closer going unnoticed. Once he was satisfied with his distance between them he took off towards them with a grin on his face.
Don't let them trap you, they can be crafty but perhaps not to crafty with a speedy surprise attack. Valo thought to himself, with his second step pushing him forward towards the goblins he activated his spell Flare Accel. A spell that would increase his speed, so he can further take advantage of the surprise attack. Small embers would be left in a trail as he dashed towards one of the goblins. Now before Valo took off he didn't do so without at least a little bit of a plan, while he was fine going in and just having a free for all fight. He noticed their height, their clothing, armor, tools, weapons, environment, and what they were doing at the time. The campfire was lit to probably start cooking food, a fire that he could most likely use to his advantage of course he could use his own direct fire spells but he wanted to preserve mana if he could. They had armors on, but currently no weapons in hand something he could also take advantage off. He had one of the goblins to left and the other to his right on the other side of the campfire he would aim to take out the one on his left first.
His dash caught them both off guard completely as he planned, so his first initial strike had to really count. He aimed for the goblin on his left, because while it didn't have it's shield in hand it had a round metal shield at it's feet. Getting closer he slanted his right arm in, aiming to land a right hook on the goblin his fist met the goblins rather large nose causing it immense pain stunned him but not for long. Using that time Valo quickly picked up the metal shield he spotted down on the ground, he picked it up right on time using it to block a wooden club thrown at him from the goblin on the other side of the campfire. That was dumb on the goblins part, perhaps his surprise attack caused a panic attack that led to not making the right judgements. But before the club hit the ground, Valo was quick enough to grab it mid air and use it to with a left spin striking the goblin that was just recovering from it's nose being smashed effectively knocking it out. That gave Valo a nice boost of confidence, the gobin still on the other side of the fire was surprised it's comrade had been knocked out already. Being alone and effectively outmatched it tried to run, Valo acted quickly throwing the club the right to it's back hard causing the goblin to fall into the ground. That time was all Valo needed to run in and close the distance, once satisfied with the distance he went into a high jump into the air and with a slight spin brought his right foot down performing a dive kick striking the last goblin hard on it's back before he could get back up. Knocking out the second goblin as well.
Valo had a nice grin on his face, he was able to take them both out using his fighting skills alone. Leading a gang and learning how to fight properly back home Kikka had it's benefits even here he thought. While of course his very beginning he was getting a good idea or grasp of what direction he was going to go for how he fought. He was trained in martial arts and direct hand to hand combat back home by his local blackmsith, that probably had an effect on his strength and effectiveness that he hadn't realized till now. Also with Valo's up keep of training, strengthening, conditioning his physical abilities alone were already pretty impressive. While Valo had reason to feel confident, he knew better than to be stupid about it and not think to much of himself yet. But he couldn't deny he was feeling pretty good about himself.
"Well that was nice warm up." He said stretching out his arm. He looked over to Artemis. "I think we can go take out the other, what do you think?" he asked her.
Name of Spell: フレアアクセル (Fureaakuseru / Flare Accel) Elemental Type: Fire Rank & Spell Type: Junior | Physical Reinforcement Range & Speed: Self / 2m/s Mana Cost: 10 | 5 Stats Effected: Speed Applicable Perks: Full Blitz - SPOILER: Click to hide Full Blitz: By taking this perk, your magic is able to push past the normal limits of your bodies speed. When using a Physical Reinforcement spell that buffs your speed, you can increase it by an additional 5 m/s. At Grand Rank you can increase said spells by 10 m/s. (Note these bonuses do not stack.)
Description: This spell allows Valo to increase his speed significantly, because of the nature being fire red embers tend to rise from his body when is use. This boost in speed allows Valo to maneuver around the battlefield at a much more rapid and swift pace.
Herculean Strength: Those with this naturally deal junior physical damage, Intermediate level at grand tier.
Artemis watched the young man in front of her dispatch the two goblins with his martial prowess. The Water mage was a bit surprised at just how efficient Valo Stark was able to take down his opponents, even though he was technically outclassed in terms of raw power. However, the ingenuity was that he never tried to take them on by using his power against theirs. No, instead he used a single spell, but mostly did his damage through the use of the goblin’s own weapons. Artemis watched the young man’s every move, and while it was a little bit sloppy in the eyes of a veteran like Artemis, it was definitely very well done for a mage in his first ever mission. While he has not seen any of the other new recruits by the Green Mantis Captain during the last Magic Knights Exam, Valo Stark has definitely made his impact on Artemis as one of the best in his group. Of course there might be better, and even stronger Green Mantis recruit, which only lifted Artemis’ spirit. It seems that the Green Mantises might just be on a rise, albeit a bit late, but still better than the nothingness that they had before. Talent was hard to find, after all, and even more so, talent was something that always got recruited to the other Magic Knights squad. The Green Mantises were often left with the remains of the other squads, and truly, Artemis would just not have it anymore. Someday soon, her time will come, though for now, she will need to keep an eye out for the new crop of recruits, making sure they’re improving and are in fighting condition. A squad is only as good as its members after all.[break][break]
“Very good.” Artemis finally nodded at the young man. “While the goblins are a class above you in terms of strength, you were at least able to use their items to your advantage.” While it was a good show, Artemis knew that she should also give her constructive criticism as well. “However, you always have to make sure that you have vision of the battlefield. The second goblin, if it had been just a little smarter, could have crept up on you while you were busy picking up that shield, and clubbed you to death without you even noticing.” It was a simple mistake, something that Artemis was very sure Valo Stark would never make ever again. “But, as I said earlier, it was a good show. The goblins were surprised by your attack, and you capitalized on it. You used their weapons as well, which is good. Be resourceful, and it will keep you alive longer than you think. Also, you were able to react accordingly, not letting the goblin escape.” Artemis shrugged, “As new Magic Knights, you are expected to make mistakes. But, I will say that you have exceeded expectations, and for that, I will treat you by showing you a portion of my power.” [break][break]
Artemis Somerset was a woman who was known to not know how to hold back. Her spells were devastating to her enemies, and her allies were only protected by her graces. A devastating mage was not something uncommon, however, Artemis’ fighting style differed a lot from the other mages around her. Instead of a powerhouse, in your face type of attack mage, Artemis was the more subtle kind. The mage that can kill you without even setting foot near you. Or even more so, she was the type of mage that you do not want to get near to when you are fighting her. Her techniques are far from normal, and her opponents never leave the battlefield in one piece.[break][break]
“My title within the Clover Kingdom is the Ki Master, someone who has been able to achieve the power of sensing natural energies. This is a technique known to few, and its mastery is not something to take lightly.” Artemis started, now walking towards the forests’ tree line. “However, what I am truly known for is my ability to kill my opponents without them laying a finger on me, and myself never even getting close to them.” Artemis slightly grinned at this. It had been awhile since she had been able to stretch her magic. She had been waiting for this opportunity for a bit now, and her magic was currently singing, waiting to be unleashed.[break][break]
“Stand back.”[break][break]
That was the only warning Artemis gave the young man as she flared her mana. Instantly, she knew that the goblins would be alerted, and would come for her as soon as they can. She also knew that they would be attacking in a group. It was at this point that Artemis’ grimoire came to life. The satchel that held it opened, and the book flew to her right side, it’s pages glowing as Artemis prepared her spell. It would be easy enough, she supposed, to kill them while they were running towards her, but why ruin half the fun? Plus, she wanted to show Valo just how much he would have to be working to catch up to her. [break][break]
“Don’t blink. But most importantly, don’t move.”[break][break]
With that, the group of goblins broke through the forest. They were, as expected, a group of ten. All of them were wearing some form of armor, and carried some sort of weapon. Some of them even had their spoils still with them: fish and some firewood. Artemis, however, held their gaze, before she spoke one word: “Black Dawn.”[break][break]
Water droplets immediately formed around the group of goblins. There was no escape from it, especially since right as the spell was cast, they were immediately caught in its illusion. However, what made the spell really vicious was the fact that as the goblins were caught, the water droplets expanded and started to drown the goblins by encasing their heads in water. Their death was slow, and very ruthless. Their lifeless bodies, all drench in water, would collapse in a heap.[break][break]
This was the power of a Grand tier mage, and Artemis hoped it would encourage Valo to actually train to reach this tier of magical prowess.
Name of Spell: Black Dawn[break] Elemental Type: Water[break] Rank & Spell Type: Grand | Attack Creation & Sensory (Illusion)[break] Range & Speed: 150 meters | 110 m AOE[break] Mana Cost: 50 | 25[break] Stats Effected: +12 Power[break] Applicable Perks: Master Illusionist, Area of Triumph, Battle Knight[break] Description: Artemis utilizes her control over water causing water droplets to form around her opponent/s. She imbues an both illusion and attack creation on the water droplets that she conjures. The illusion targets sight, hearing, taste and smell, tricking her opponents and making them see nothing but black all around them, while the other three senses are also dulled. As they are caught within the illusion, the water droplets around them will wrap around the heads of Artemis' opponents, drowning them as they are trapped within the illusion. Through sensory, Artemis is able to pinpoint opponents and target them specifically. She is also able to utilize ammo rule to conjure more than one Black Dawn, following ammo rules on damage. The spell also follows ammo rule for avoiding allies.

Usually when it came to criticism Valo was never one to take it that well. Back home in Kikka he had little reason to not feel confident in his abilities, but Valo while many things was not an idiot. He knew when he first decided to be a magic knight that he was stepping into a very different world entirely. So that's why when Artemis looked overall pleased with what he was capable of, he didn't shake off the advice and critiques she shared with him as well. In fact listened very closely to her opinions and the wisdom she had to share, while he didn't know her long he has grown in a short amount of time to admire Artemis. She was pretty smart, and strong as well but on top of all that she wasn't mad with power or tried to bully anyone with it. She seemed genuine, someone that Valo had to admit he wouldn't mind looking up to and going to for advice.
He did think about what his old gang in Kikka would think about him now, they would probably make of him and trash him for the way he was acting. The rude and smart ass Valo now turned into a respectable Magic Knight with manners. He chuckled to himself just a little bit thinking about it, Rohas his second in command would probably give him an ear full. But then again maybe they wouldn't to disappointed. They would make fun of him of course, but when he remembered when he announced that he was leaving home to become a magic knight he got some much love and support that they in fact wanted him to go and follow his dreams. He missed those guys already, and it's only been a few weeks. He missed his mom too, and she would probably be just a little proud of him now. How he was starting to apply himself, and how he starting to hold himself just a little bit better than he was in Kikka
After hearing her critique about having better vision on the battle field, Valo began to ponder just for a second on how he could remedy this and thought perhaps he should focus on sensing his sourrondings more thoroughly. Being to able to essentially 'see' the entire battlefield would make it so you would probably never be caught off guard. No surprise attacks, sneak attacks, hidden attacks would work something that could be extremely valuable in battle. Valo put that small thought in his memory bank for later though. For right now at this moment he was finally going to get a look at what Artemis was capable of in battle, to at least a sample of it. He doubt the goblins would prove to be a challenge for Artemis at all, but maybe he could see just a little something.
He heard say she was titled as the Ki master, Ki was something he had heard in passing before but could never get any actual information on it at all. So not only was she well versed in it, she was considered a master in it the surprises never ceased to amaze young Valo. He did was she suggested and took a few steps back, but as soon as she gave her warning her mana just seemingly flared up and just the out put of it had Valo shocked his eyes widened. She planned on flaring her mana to let the other goblins know of their location, and soon after that her plan had worked. Ten more goblins started show up gnarling at Artemis alone, they didn't really pay him any mind they Artemis was the more dangerous one of the two. Her grimoire floated at her side as she casually prepared a spell. How can she remain so calm he thought, ten goblins would be enough to worry him if he could get out of this situation alive. Maybe he could but probably just barely, with maybe some part of him left. Valo stood like stone in place when he heard her warning to move and more importantly don't blink. But no warning was needed he had no intentions to move, and whatever was going on had his complete focus and just like that almost as fast as it began it was over with a simple word.
Valo's eye darted from one goblin to the next as he watched each one drop like flies from her water spell. He was in full analysis mode, trying to figure out what he just saw. But it wasn't that hard to figure out not only did she fell them all in one attack, she also caught them in a illusion that in turn suspended their movement completely. Once that's done an attack deadly enough with that much range was their instant demise. Valo still looking amazed, walked over to one of their lifeless bodies drenched in water.
"You blinded them...and deafened them. Perhaps robbed them of all major senses and then put them out of their misery with one fell swoop of an attack. Right?" Valo asked her just to confirm what he thought had happened perhaps he was entirely wrong, but he had a good feeling he was on the mark. But Valo's eyes still looked shocked like he still couldn't believe what happened. Once he got his answer he continued. "I didn't kno- The fact that spells of this caliber are possible is just...wow. Spells with multiple effects, with this much range and control... are there no limits? You truly are on a whole other tier huh?" he said to himself but loud enough for Artemis to hear. But then he turned to her his eyes full of determination almost as if his natural element of fire was in his eyes. "Train me." he said suddenly. Just like when he was back home, he never ceased the opportunity to learn especially from others. It's how he learned to fight so well with his fists, but that wasn't good enough for this world he stepped into. But no matter what her response was he still had to ask the next question regardless. "Is Ki something that others can learn?" he asked genuinely curious on how Ki worked and how it could be utilized.

Artemis would try to clear the air of her mana. In a battlefield, especially in dungeons or even during conflicts against other Kingdoms, Artemis would not even think of clearing her mana signature. The immense power it had, though dwarfed by others of a higher caliber, was something to behold when faced with civilians or those of a lower rank. For Valo Stark, it must have been titanic in terms of what he was used to. While Magic Knights were technically ona higher caliber than the common folk, those who just joined, like Valo, were still very green. Artemis supposed this would have been the best time to motivate the young man to actually get stronger. There were countless of Magic Knights who would never make it past the Junior Rank within the organization. Those were the burn outs. Each squad will have them, and truth be told, from what Artemis has seen and heard, the Green Mantis has quite a bit of them compared to the others. It saddened Artemis just how low the Green Mantis have fallen in recent years, and she was determined to change it. [break][break]
She would listen to the observation of the young man. The spell itself was illusion based, which meant that for low level mana beasts, it was almost inescapable. Even more so since Artemis chose one of her more devastating spells. Black Dawn was not just a high ranking spell, it was Grand in terms of power rank. While the Magic Knights had a ranking system, spells were generally tiered the same way. It was usually measured with the highest amount of power a mage can out into their spell, and it showed with the amount of devastation that one can cause with their spells. This one did not do anything to the environment itself, but it caused untold pain to those trapped within it. Artemis’ spells were never meant to be devastating to the land itself. The effects of it never bled through the natural damage that it can cause. Instead, she chose to tailor her specialties to damages around an opponent. Black Dawn, after all, was an illusion that specifically targeted almost every single sense of the opponent, singular and plural, except for their taste. It went as far as dulling the mana sensing ability of Artemis’ opponents, which only worked well for her since they could neither find their allies while trapped within the illusion, nor can they sense Artemis if she were to go in for the kill. Even then, the water would attack her opponents, drowning them as they saw nothing but darkness around them. A fitting end for those who crossed Artemis.[break][break]
“Very astute.” She would nod, as Artemis motioned for him to follow her lead back into town. The proper authorities will deal with the bodies. “The illusion is only one part. The water drowns them immediately when the spell takes hold, suffocating them as they see nothing but darkness.” She would shrug, “I can hold it for a long time. Stronger mages can survive for longer, but in the end, they all fall down.”[break][break]
He then brought up the topic of training. And of Ki. “Training.” She would think for a moment. “I can. And Ki is something you can learn. However, it takes dedication.” The woman would gesture to the town guards for them to pick up the bodies of the goblins. “I will be leaving soon for a specific mission that might take me a bit to complete.” She would then turn to the young man, “Once I get back, we can train. Be ready, it won’t be easy.”[break][break]
With that, she led them both to the mayor’s to collect their reward, before heading back to the base.
