Having finished his religious studies after years of aspiring to become a member of the church, young Thaddeus had finally reached a point in life in which he could accomplish his goals. It wouldn't be easy but he had been intending on working his way through the ranks of the Church of Gnome and had planned to eventually take on the position of the elder of the Wilhelm family, Markus. Such a task was going to take time and energy but he was going to need to start somewhere. Thankfully he had been assigned to a parish in which he could act in his role as an assistant. The place assigned to him had been none other than Nairn, a nice town located within the Common Region that held a massive church. One could say that with how many deacons there actually were in Nairn, that his goal was going to be quite hard to reasonably reach. That was a challenge that Thaddeus had been willing to accept with no hesitation.
"I know that there isn't a ton that I can really do to help at the moment but.. I refuse to just sit by on the sidelines and allow for the world to pass me by. Even with how limited my responsibilities may be, and how little magic there is that I can actually use right now, I am going to give my first day as a Deacon my all. As a both a Vault-Keeper of the Hoard of Gnome and as a Wilhelm, I have a responsibility to help as many people as I can. Now how should I go about this..?"
Given that Thaddeus hadn't really known the town of Nairn all that well, he had figured that the best start would have been for him to inspect the setting. It would take days to investigate every available square inch of this town and to memorize as much as he could about it but that was just something that he was going to have to accept. This was the best way to ensure that he could think of the most appropriate alms to perform after all. With such a force of will driving him forward, those next few days had passed by quicker than he could have ever anticipated. Naturally there were a few locations that people hadn't really wanted him to enter and of course he had accepted as much and respected the wishes of the property owners. Every other nook and cranny hidden away from him had soon been discovered though and ultimately he had managed to come up with a few good alms to present to the Priest.
"I see... So with everything that has been happening over the past several years with the daemons and such, there is a surge of homeless and staving people, huh? I wish that there was more that I could do to really help here but.. how should I go about helping them? There is only so much room that we have available within the church. If only I had known Supplementary Magic... That would have allowed for me to solve so many of these issues. Is there really nothing that I can do to help these people?" It was as he was questioning himself that a few ideas had begun to dawn upon him. If he hadn't been able to provide housing for these people than perhaps he could offer a few other things, such as food and clothing. He may not have access to the funds that the Wilhelm estate could provide but that hadn't meant that he hadn't been saving up his own money as the years had been passing by. With what little resources he had at his disposal, it was always possible for him to go ahead and purchase a few things here and there for the unfortunate denizens of Nairn. If those are some of the only ways that he could really go about helping them than that was just was he was going to have to do.
The next day, after he had spoken with one of the priests about the idea that he had, Thaddeus would head to the marketplace of Nairn. He had managed to go from one stall to another as he had purchased as many blankets, outfits, and crates of food that he could afford. It had cost a small fortune to acquire as many things as he had but that had been quite alright with him. Currency held no true value to him aside from what it could provide for others. If that meant that he could find a way to protect others via purchasing a few things than he would happily agree to such a thing. And agree to it he had. By the time that he had completed gathering everything that he had been interested in purchasing, all that was left to do was to get the goods back to the church. The only question now was how he was going to go about it... Should he attempt to purchase a cart for all of these goods? There were far too many for such a thing and he honestly hadn't had much money left after all of that spending. So how exactly did he plan on getting these things back to the people? Well that had been quite simple really.
In an attempt to get the gathered goods back to the church to prepare for the next step of his almsgiving plans, Thaddeus was going to have to make use of his Ring of Everlasting Summons. This was an item of magical proportions that had been gifted to him by his family elder, Markus Wilhelm. "Well gramps... I suppose that now is as good a time as any to make use of this gift of yours. Thanks again for everything... This is all that I have ever wanted." It was in this moment that Thaddeus would clutch his hand whilst placing his thumb above his ring finger. Upon doing as such, the outer layer of carbon that the ring had consisted of had begun to crack and had allowed for his magic to take place. Suddenly, five four meter tall humanoid golems of living carbon matter had burst forth from the ground ahead of Thaddeus! It was truly a sight to behold and one that had caught the attention of just about everyone within the marketplace. "Heh.. D-damn gramps.. This is one gift!"
Now that the carbon golems had been formed, all that was left for Thaddeus to do was to command them. "Right, uh, let's do this than. C'mon golems, snatch up these crates and let's get headed out." After giving the golems a command, they would reach on over and pick up the crates, placing them on their shoulder as though this was something that they had done often. Perhaps this was something that Markus had used them for in the past? Well.. It is more likely that they had simply been following the commands to the best of their ability. Such a task was far beneath the kind of thing that they were usually used for so it shouldn't be too difficult for them to handle this one.
About half an hour would pass as Thaddeus had maneuvered his way throughout the town of Nairn, his carbon golems following closely behind. Every time that the Ring of Everlasting Summons had needed to be recharged or that the golems had begun to lose their mana, Thaddeus would simply fill them back up and keep them as they were intended to be. Everlasting. Eventually they would arrive at the front gates of the massive Church that Thaddeus had been assigned to. There had been dozens upon dozens of people waiting outside of the gates, curious as to what had been going on and why there had been golems carrying boxes. "No need to worry, everyone! I, Thaddeus Wilhelm, have managed to secure several goods for as many of you as I could provide. I know that it isn't much but... I did the best that I could, for your sakes. If you would please form a line off to the side of the gates with your friends and families, we can begin to distribute these goods to you all. If we run out today, after some time I shall attempt to gather said goods yet again. All that I ask in return is that you work together to build yourselves back up yet again. We the Church of Clover are here for you! And as a Vault-Keeper of the Hoard of Gnome, I promise to help you in whatever ways that I can!"
It came as no surprise to Thaddeus that most everyone had listened to his words and begun to line up outside of the church. The people of Nairn had seemed to appreciate his actions and had been happy to receive any assistance that he had been willing to offer. "Right, well I suppose that we should get to work. Come golems, please place the crates down on the ground. That is all that I request of you in the meantime." He would then command the golems to nod in response and for them to place the crates upon the ground. From there they would return to the earth in which they had stood and allowed for their carbon matter to seep back into its proper placement. Overall it had been a rather good day for the young Wilhelm. Working together with the deacons and priests of the church had allowed for him to not only build his rapport with the people of Nairn but to establish firm relations with his brothers and sisters of the gnome. Each family would come to receive a few outfits and pounds of food to take back with them until they could find a place to go and such an event would occur for as long as the supplies would last. This was the kind of thing that Thaddeus had been hoping to see happen all throughout the world. For each and every person that he were to come upon to have a smile on their face and to appreciate the goodness that the Hoard of the Gnome could provide. Although this had only been the start, things were already starting to look up.
Several weeks had passed after this event had occurred. It was something that had almost become a custom for the people of Nairn. Whenever young Thaddeus could pool together the funds, he would acquire goods for those that had been struggling and would provide them with what they had needed. Some had even gone as far as to write lists of things that the community would need, whenever they had found themselves within the makeshift soup kitchens, so to speak. Others from the community and from the church had begun to reach out as well and would find themselves volunteering assistance wherever they could. It had truly warmed Thaddeus' heart to see so many people working together towards a better end for all. This isn't the kind of thing that is achieved that easily. Perhaps with enough time he could manage to get this kind of thing to occur all throughout the Clover Kingdom? Or perhaps he would find himself fighting against the threats to the Clover Kingdom, such as the daemons and their ilk. Regardless of whatever the future holds for this young man, he plans to do all that he can in the name of the Gnome. He intends to prove himself to his family and the people of the Clover Kingdom. He will strive to become the Spring Cardinal and to prove his elder proud via his very actions. It won't be easy but nothing ever is. This is something that he is going to have to do if he wishes for things to change for the Clover Kingdom. And once he is done there? The entire world.
