Not too long ago, there has been a rise of strange tales around Kiten of a hooded individual wandering about in the middle of the night, of women and children disappearing from their homes or plucked from the streets. Since the guards themselves have not been able to find any clues as to what might cause all of this, the townsfolk have set up an organization of their own as they believe the cause of it all might be a “Vampire”. While many of the people in town, including the guards, do not pay them much heed, recently, one of their own has been attacked by the one they believe to be a vampire, resulting in her falling into a death-like sleep. Having two puncture marks on her neck, there is no doubt among the members of the group that she was attacked by a vampire, and now they require outside assistance due to their dwindling numbers.

The last mission Maria did with the church, she got actually hurt for once in her life. She stood in the mirror looking at her back. Her magic was able to heal most the injuries and she still had bandages and on her back but to her, the wound was wide open and bleeding, the wound to her pride. The girl did not have time to dwell on this. Throwing own her her white cloak with a loose white shirt and skirt and a pair of golden colored sandals, she readied herself to head out. Her and the deacon were asked to deal with some really weird problems. They were not very clear what the issue was when talking to Maria herself but the girl was not really thinking about as she kept finding her mind drift off to her back.
Upon arriving at the meeting spot, her and the deacon would meet up. The girl kept behind her hood trying to hide her wandering eyes. She had not spoken to the man since their last mission together because of said mission so she was not sure what he might say or do. Would he be happy to see her well? Would he remind her of her failure? Would he be ashamed of her weakness? Maybe that last one was way less possible to happen but it still sat in her mind. Also, there was one more thing... sort of bothering her.
When she originally arrived here, a couple people walked up to her asking her about a vampire. Normally the girl would give some snarky remark since the idea was all but silly but today, she just politely and quietly denied knowing anything about it. Everyone in the town seemed off, as if they were scared or looking for something. The word vampire came up among many whispers. Thus if the deacon would mention it, she would believe in it a bit more. At least, something might be trying to pretend to be one to hide their true motives.
The Duo would head off to a member of the order which made the request for this mission and it was here that everything was all but confirmed. Apparently the two would now be considered vampire hunters. What joy... It was at this point the girl began to lose focus, unable to really take this so seriously. Like seriously, vampires? She did fight a magical hat but like, she was not sure she was ready for this in her life. So the next question was what were they going to do. She looked up at Thaddeus hoping for him to understand her silent projection of a request for instruction. The only reason she did not want to talk was because she did not want anyone to believe she was anymore interested in this whole thing than was could be perceived. Though if the man would not get the hint, she would eventually speak up. "So... does the church have anything on blood sucking terrors of the night?"

Even with everything that had happened between the two during the last mission that he had requested that she come along with, Thaddeus had no intention of ever blaming her for it. Granted, she had very often been quite reckless and found ways of almost getting hurt every time, but this hadn't been one of those situations. For once, she had decided to listen to him. It was that listening to him that had gotten her injured in the first place. If he hadn't been so focused on only protecting people with his golems than he would have been able to do more for her. This was his biggest downfall and he honestly hadn't been sure how to go about rectifying things. He wasn't even sure if rectifying things was the kind of thing that he could do here. It had almost been as though Klara was avoiding him ever since that day. He clearly had done something to upset her throughout the course of that mission... Once he would find out what it is, than he can try and fix it.
The Spring Deacon honestly hadn't even been sure as to whether or not Klara would show up for this mission. With how much she had been avoiding him as of late, it was entirely likely that he was going to have to go it alone in this case. Part of him had begun to fully accept that as he had made his way to the meet up point. Surprisingly, Klara had actually been there. Not just here in person but even on time? The whole thing had felt off... He needed to figure out what it was that he had done and fix it soon. It's the only way that his mind will rest at peace. Of course seeing her was one thing but maintaining eye contact with her? That just wasn't something that he could do at the moment. Instead, as her gaze would turn to meet his own, Thaddeus would avert his gaze and look solely at the people around them. His focus would direct itself towards the people that had seemed quite worried that something dangerous was going on. The ones that would whisper silently back and forth about the possibility of a vampire... Something that, if real, he was going to have to eliminate for the sake of the Church.
No real dialogue would be had between the two as they had begun to make their way off towards the member of the order that had chosen to request their presence for this mission. All that was really offered at first was a simple offer of direction via the craning of the Spring Deacons neck. Eventually the duo would arrive in front of a female member of the order though. This woman would go on to discuss everything that had occurred previously with one of her own getting attacked by a creature that could only truly be a vampire. At least in their own eyes anyways. What was needing to be discussed now was a plan of action. What were they going to do in regards to the hunter that had found herself in a death-like sleep? Or in regards to the creature that everyone had believed to be a vampire? Truthfully, Thaddeus hadn't been quite sure on how to act here. There was only so much information that he had access to as a Deacon of the Church of Gnome. If he were a higher rank, such as a Priest or even the Bishop, he would have for sure had access to that kind of information. All the way out here though? This far away from Nairn, the location in which he is actually stationed? He didn't hold too much sway here.
"Honestly, Klara?" This had been the first time that he had chosen to speak up since they had come all the way out here. Or at least to her anyways. "Even with how dwindling the members of the Church are, I still don't have access to that kind of information. Not anything that high ranking anyways. It's possible that I could ask Markus, our elder, for some advice on the situation but to do so would take too long. This seems like the kind of thing that we should probably focus on taking care of now." Not really having the best advice at the moment, the Spring Deacon would uncomfortably begin to scratch at the back of his head. "That isn't to say that the Church doesn't have this kind of information. It just isn't the kind of thing that I personally am privy to at the moment. Still, I have a bit of an idea of how we can go about things while we are here."
The Spring Deacon would than begin to gesture towards the member of the order that had been standing by and listening to everything that they were saying. "I would recommend that you go along with her for the time being and try to see if your magic can do anything for their companion. Any attempt to soothe the possible pain that they might be going through is our obligation. While you go off and assist them with this master, I can go ahead and read up on any information that the order might have on the vampires over all, although I'm not quite sure how much information I'll really be able to glean from their archives. Be sure to ask them questions and see what they can tell you as well. We'll knock out three birds with one stone."

It was disappointing that Thaddeus could not use his connections to uncover anything about vampires. It was something she was really hoping he would be an expert in, assuming vampires were actually real and this was not someone pretending to be one. She would not respond though, only turning her head away to look down at the ground. There seemed to be something else under his tone though she could not place a figure at what it was. Ultimately that just meant she could not disproved the man was not a little upset at her. His next comment would not make it better either.
See Thaddeus wanted her to go to the reported victim and see if she could heal them with her magic. It was surprising for two reason. One, her healing magic was was her weakest spec because she was so offensive focus. Her whole plan was to run in and take as little damage as possible. Anything that seep through would me negated by her healing. However, never in her right mind did she try to do things like remove poison or wake up a cursed person. Plus again, she was not well practiced. So that meant one of two things. Thaddeus had extremely high expectations for her, or he had no faith in her ability to help collect information and pretending to help the crowd was the best someone of her caliber could do.
Sure reading and collection information was not her strongest suit but at the same time, it hurt knowing you were not helpful. The best she could do was get lucky and pray that one of the villagers were more knowledgeable than they let on. At the moment though she would go to the sleeping person and then use both her healing spells, Jade's Blessing and Moonstone's Blessing. No matter how much mana she put into it, the girl would not wake up. At the very least, she hoped she was at least keeping the victim alive.

Trusting that his cousin was capable of performing the task that he had asked of her, Thaddeus had decided to follow after another member of the order. This was so that he could make his way on over towards the small archives section that the order had been steadily growing as each day would pass since the incident. The Spring Deacon hadn't really expected them to have much information on the matter, given the fact that the Church of Clover and the Magic Knights likely held most records of the existence of said creatures, but he was at least holding out hope that these commoners would be able to assist him in some degree.
After arriving within the small archives section of the library, Thaddeus would be led to a wooden table and be asked to sit. The members of the order had been gathering a small research team for this very thing and had decided that it would be best to bring him along with them so that he could go over each of the tomes that they had managed to locate on the subject. Much to his surprise, the amount of tomes that the group had managed to collect hadn't been all that dwindling but instead a rather hefty pile. Of course most of the tomes that they had were simply fables and the likes. Still, the Spring Deacon had figured that any information would have been better than no information.
Several hours would pass by as the Spring Deacon had read through each of the collected tomes. From what he had managed to gather, there had really only been two ways to deal with a vampire. One could always attempt to off the vampire of course but that wasn't something that the Spring Deacon had felt all that comfortable with. The other way of dealing with a vamp though had been to attempt to try and cure them. It had taken extensive studying through each of these books but eventually Thaddeus would manage to land upon a solid lead. There was supposedly a potion that could allow for one to cure vampirism as long as it is administered before the conversion from human into vampire is completed with the subject dying as a result of the disease. Truthfully Thaddeus hadn't been able to find any detailed information on the ingredients that were required. At least not on his own. After speaking with the members of the research team though, a nobleman within the group going by the name Stanard would come forward with the information that he himself had gathered. Supposedly he had held the information on what ingredients were going to be needed and the location of said ingredients. The only downside here..? The ingredients were to be held within the Witches Forest.
Thaddeus hadn't been all that comfortable at the thought of having to traverse to the Witches Forest, for several reasons, but he knew what it was that he was going to have to do. After giving his thanks to Stanard, the Spring Deacon would rise from his seat and head on out to locate his cousin. Once he had managed to locate Klara, Thaddeus would place a hand on her shoulder and would be sure to give her a simple nod. "I trust that you managed to do all that you could for the woman? How did everything go on your end?" Once he had received her response, Thaddeus would turn his head to look off into the distance. "I hope that you are prepared for some travel, cousin, because we are headed off to the Witches Forest."

Maria continued to babysit the sleeping body with her Moonstone's blessing still active. If it was keeping her alive then great, if it was doing nothing, then it would be upsetting but at least she was trying. Though at this time a old woman would enter the room. The woman greeted the girl and inquiry on the girl's presence here. There was some more small talk before the woman told her a little story. The story was that a young creature curse to only walk in the night unlike everyone else who was free to explore the world of color in the day. One day, he saved a medicine man who told him of way to break his curse. First he would have to find a glowing Twilight Foxglove. Then he would have to overcome a greedy invisible monster to obtain the Devil's Helmet. Finally he would have to sail and discover the umbrella Hemlock. After collection these various flowers and returning them to him, the medicine man could break the creature free from his dark prison and the creature would beable rejoice in the freedom under the light with his friends. Maria tried to ask one more question but the woman just walked off saying, her efforts would be best spent helping her friend.
So after packing herself up, she ventured off to find Thaddeus and explain everything that happened and the cryptic story that the elder person told her. Lucky for her, the deacon was able to make some advances on his own. In fact, he had their next destination in mind, Witches Forest. Lucky for Maria, her father had told her he was going to give her something that could really help her on her quest a few days ago and it should be arriving soon. So if they really had to fight a vampire, then she would be more than ready. [exit] [25% WC reduction (Int Rank)] [wc 319 (1160)]
