We have taken over a stretch of road that a decent enough amount of merchants pass through though not enough to warrant the town to give any patrols through. It is your turn on the rotation to do the collections of the 'toll' from these customers of ours. Watch out for their own bodyguards though, they like to get fiesty from time to time.

Sure enough, there it was. The perilously notorious stretch of bridge, that many merchants chose to avoid lately. It had been waylaid by your average garden variety criminal; highway men and vagabonds, for a few months now. They were your common Tom, Dick and Harry crew; looking for a quick coin. Abundant in Aries Garse. The only peculiarity of any sort how ever, that Connor noticed, was that the operation was more like a rabble siege. Many shirtless men, not even bothering hiding themselves, lined the canyon's far side. Connor; clad in his dark armor, was approached by the group's envoy. A man who was neither particularly memorable; or pleasant for that matter, spoke to him rather civilly, "End of the road, for you friend. Road toll's five hundred yul."
Connor paused for a moment's consideration. It wasn't an overly exorbitant amount of money. Connor noticed the crossbows the bandit's friends were holding. At times like this, he felt vaguely despondent, as any man might. Very calmly assessing there to be some sort of leigh-way. Connor extended his hand rather slowly, with the solemn conviction one uses when being misconstrued. In his clenched hand, Connor could have had any number of things. He revealed with much disappointment what it was that he wanted to show the herald; flipping him the bird, a jovial gesture even amongst the purse-snatchers.
The gag seemed to not be entirely lost on the bandit, who regarded him; Connor, amicably, and with new found respect. It only took a few games of 'rock, paper scissors', and a sneer after all that, for the bandit to let Connor freely walk into their camp. After Connor had a bit of a snoop, he was reasonable sure that the magic knights were seriously shirking their duties for a bandit camp like this to spring up unchallenged.
