Rumors of an old haunted elven temple have emerged and reached the ears of the magic knights. Most recently a family went over to camp by the ruins, but only the youngest daughter returned, crying about horrifying female visages dressed in white…

Artemis had been here before. She remembered this place very well as she took stock of everything around her. The forest around the town was dense, and she was sure that most people traversing through here would have had a hard time if they did not have some sort of semblance for the place. Truly, it was something that made these woods even more concerning to a weary traveller than just its dense nature. The mana, even for a forest, was too thick in this area. She had been here before, but the last time had been just a little different, maybe it was because it had been the first time she had been here, and so was unable to discern the concentration of mana. Now, however, she could make out the fact that the mana beasts that she had dispatched previously were back, and it seems that they had not changed. [break][break]
“And they are back, hm.” She whispered to herself. Artemis had been tasked to deal with these creatures once again. The last time had not been enough, apparently, and truly, Artemis was not one to leave a job unfinished. “Banshees…” After completing the dungeon where her and Lydia had had to dispatch a woman murdered before her marriage day, Artemis found herself more sympathetic to mana beasts that had anything to do with a woman scorned. Banshees, as was described in one of the mission briefs, is a female spirit that is a supposed herald of death. There were some stories that point that banshees were spirits of women who had lost their lives in a violent manner. There was also a story of them being women who had a very strong connection with mana when they had lived, and died not fulfilling something very important in their lives. A manifestation of sorts, one that is aided by the latent mana in the air. However corrupted the mana was, it still was mana, a giver of life. [break][break]
Artemis shook her head. She had come here early, at least, earlier than expected. AShe knew that she had been assigned with a partner to get through this mission once again. The last time had been with her fellow Green Mantis member, Valo Stark. This time, however, she had been assigned someone else. There was no name given, other than the fact that it was a mage from the Black Bulls. She had no qualms with that. The last time that she had been paired up with a mage from the Black Bulls was with Rosalia Boreas, and she was more than a capable mage to work with. If her other squad mates were like her, then Artemis knew that she would not have any problems at all. [break][break]
It was then that Artemis heard someone approaching. The temple itself was directly in front of her. She made sure to keep an eye on the place, especially since the banshees were very unpredictable. However, just like last time, they seemed to be trapped within the temple itself. She had been glad for that. [break][break]
Artemis would turn then to greet her partner. She was ready to get things going, after all.
Rosalia’s eyebrows crinkled together as she stared at a very specific mission request on the Black Bull’s board in the general lounge area. It was a Saturday, thus most of her fellow members were still fast asleep at 11 am. Tavern brawls, getting black-out drunk or having a food coma was not out of the norm for pretty much everyone, Rosalia included, but she had abstained yesterday evening because of the new book she’d been excited to read. Now she was the first one awake, and she had the undying itch, that only any other true workaholic would actually understand, of having to do something that wasn’t really needed of her yet. And yet the beauty knew how close she was. She needed to get Vice-Captain soon, before the busy Clover Summers hit, so she could legally help Malcolm with the workload he tended to suffer through alone. That…and she’d probably be able to actually manage the other goofballs in the squad. [break][break]
With a sigh, she picked the mission up from the board and went to delivering to Malcolm, fully expecting him to be snoring and not wide awake with a mug of tea in hand and raising an eyebrow at her. [break][break]
“Oh, you’re up…I’m uh gonna go on a mission.” The beauty informed her Captain, her eyes darting away from his frame as he picked up her mission request and sighed. She knew he was going to be giving her that worried look again, but the woman was sure she could manage. In fact, when he informed her that there was someone else already on it from the Mantises, she found her ruby eyes darting between the options. She just hoped that it wasn’t Alex. The two women would murder each other before getting anything done at all. They hated each other’s guts with a passion since the Diamond war. If it was, Artemis, however…Rosalia found that the gentle woman was an amazing Magic Knight, and someone to whom she’d have no problem showing her back in combat. She trusted Artemis, without a doubt. [break][break]
“Good, well, I’ll be off.” The woman scratched the back of her head and gave the man a little smile before turning on her heel and walking out of his office. She was already in her preferred black one-piece combat outfit, and headed down to the Black Bulls’ assigned teleportation mage, Joey. The man was very much snoring on the large couch in the common area, and she made sure to note that they owed him at least a room at this point. They weren’t monsters. [break][break]
“Joey…sorry to wake you…but I need a portal…” Rosalia whispered as she kneeled down in front of the male, a large smile on her face when he opened one eye to look at her, then groaned and sat up. His short blond hair was a mess, as he yawned and stretched, before properly looking over at the ex-model with his baby blue eyes. “Hi…sorry, I was up late.” The man apologized and got up with a groan. Rosalia followed him, a laugh leaving her rosy lips. “I know.” She informed him playfully, recalling the way he was dancing with Chisana when she came down to fetch herself some food. She watched his eyes widen and a blush cover his cheeks before he cleared his throat. “Right, of course, well, where is it you need to go?” [break][break]
“Kiten…” Rosalia trailed off as she explained the mission circumstances. She watched Joey nod the moment she explained about a haunted elven temple. He knew exactly which one she was on about. After grabbing a drink of water for his dry throat, he quickly opened a portal for the ice-user, and she was off, arriving a few meters off of a familiar white-haired Somerset which made her exhale with relief. No murder of allies today then. [break][break]
“Well this is probably the best way to start my day. Pleasure to see you again, Lady Somerset. You're a sight for sore eyes.” The red-head bowed, giving her fellow Magic Knight a wolfish grin. Once she lifted her head she’d glance over at the temple. “While I’d invite you for tea and a chat, I imagine sorting this out should be our priority.” Rosalia laughed gently as she took out her grimoire. [break][break]
“Ice Creation Magic: Frostbite” the woman spoke as she poured her cold mana into her spell, lowering the temperatures around her almost down to zero. Her breath was visible when she exhaled and met Artemis ’gaze again. A large whip of ice graced one of her hands and she stretched it out with the other as she motioned for the noblewoman to go first. It was only polite, after all. [break][break]

“Likewise, Lady Rosalia,” Artemis would respond as she finally caught a glimpse and was greeted by the Black Bulls mage. “We should get this started then.” She continued, her eyes peeled for any signs of movement. Deep down, she was glad it was Rosalia who had been sent to do this missions with her. There were few others whom she knew from the Black Bulls, after all. There was also the fact that Rosalia seemed to always be ready, which was accentuated by her already summoning her ice made weapon. She appreciated a strong woman; a capable Magic Knight. Artemis nodded, before turning towards the temple once more.[break][break]
There was a silence that was eerie even to a trained mage. Artemis felt the air thrum with their movements as they went their way towards the place. It was as she remembered, old, decrepit, and a tourist trap. The last time she had been here, however, there had been a family that had been trapped in the place with the banshees. Food. Artemis knew they were supposed to be sustenance for the mana beasts, delights that they savoured that kept them sustained. It was deplorable, and Artemis herself felt the need to cleanse the whole place after seeing why was about to happen. The last time she was here, she had flooded the place to make sure that no other mana beast would be lurking in between corners of the temple. One can never be truly too careful, especially when mana beasts are involved. Even more so when the mana beasts are spirit like in their form and nature. The water she had used had been to destroy any and all other remnants of the mana beasts, though it seems to not have worked as she had hoped it would. No, the mana beasts seemed to have persisted through it all, and after a short while, had actually come back to haunt the place once more. It was a phenomenon that happened sometimes, when the mana beasts grew attached to a specific place. Attachment breeds a sense of belonging, and it also became a beacon for the mana beasts in the future. [break][break]
Going into the place itself, she felt something she had not before: the sense of wanting to know more about her elven ancestry. There was no denying it, after all. She had elven blood flowing through her veins. It was undeniable, and something she knew she just had to accept. Stepping into the temple gave her the push to actually want to learn more. While books had been a good source when she had been growing up, having strange markings on her body made for a great research topic when one had little friends; she knew she had barely scratched the surface. Artemis knew that the Somerset Family library was vast in and of itself, yet, she also knew just how limited that library was in terms of knowledge of the arcane and the archaic. Books, even rare and expensive ones, paled in comparison with the scrolls and biblical times hidden in the Great Library within the Royal Capital. Even more vast was the collection of the Great Magic Archives. Both places will be where she planned on hitting up when Rosalia and her finished with this mission. There were things that she needed to know, especially now that she had gained such a torrential power boost. Mana coursed through her without strain, and she felt even more in tune with the mana around her. Artemis was sure that it had something to do with her elvish roots, a part of her ancestry that has been forgotten through the ages. She would like to discover it once more, if only to satiate her curiosity. [break][break]
“There they are,” she would noted, “they have regathered since the last time I had been here to dispatch them.” There were four of the spirits for her to deal with, while the other four had been drawn towards Rosalia. “It seems that symmetry demands we each take four.” Artemis shrugged, “shall we?” [break][break]
She would turn her attention towards her quarry, the rush of adrenaline already affecting her actions. She felt her blood pressure go high, and her eyes sharpened. This was her during combat, a fearless Valkyrie ready to charge into the fray. However, even as a Magic Knight, Artemis knew to be careful. She was cautious when she knew that the opponent was stronger than her, and her caution manifested in the likes of her illusory spells, both aggressive in their nature, and very much defensive when she needed to make a cover and run. For this fight, however, Artemis knew that she needed neither cover nor to be cautious. She had fought these spirits before, and knew how they worked. Artemis was not one to easily forget her prey.[break][break]
Without hesitation, Artemis’ grimoire glowed in a blue hue. Mana radiated from her as her spell started to form through the grimoire as a conduit.[break][break]
“Moonsong.”[break][break]
Artemis had used Aphrodite beforehand. The weapon was strong, and very useful in any combat situation. However, it had started to be outpaced by Artemis’ growth as a mage. Instead, Artemis found herself wanting for a stronger weapon, a bow that will be able to equal her own growth in terms of power. This was where Moonsong came into okay; a manifestation of her growth. [break][break]
One.[break][break]
The first arrow was shot towards the first mana beast, the banshee that had led the charge towards her. It flew too fast for the mana beast to even dodge, and it was immediately shredded by the impact of the water made arrow. Artemis would poise for the second shot, and without fail, it would hit its mark. [break][break]
“Not too bad,” Artemis would comment to herself, before realizing that there were two more banshees that had been gunning towards her earlier. [break][break]
Name of Spell: Moonsong[break] Elemental Type: Water[break] Rank & Spell Type: Grand | Attack Creation & Physical Reinforcement[break] Range & Speed: 150 meters | 85 m/s | 115 m AOE[break] Mana Cost: 50 | 25[break] Stats Effected: +30 m/s, Blinds[break] Applicable Perks: Area of Triumph, Quick Shot, Full Blitz, Apex Predator[break] Description: A manifestation of a stronger mana, the bow is made to be the successor in power and speed of Aphrodite. The bow itself is made with water, though its wings are as sharp as a sword's blade. The bow is used in long ranged combat, the wings of the bow, however, can be used as pseudo blades. A manifestation of Artemis' mana, the string only shows when she makes a "pull-back" motion of drawing and aiming. This makes the bow into a pseudo double-bladed short spear when needed for close quarter combat. The bow itself can shoot more than one arrow, following ammo rules. The arrows can either pierce through enemies, or be used as an AOE attack by letting it burst in a shower of sharp dagger like water droplets, causing Grand level damage. At first hit, opponents are blinded by the water that hits their eyes. The blind effect only happens once per opponent. The bow also increases the speed of the user.[break]
“How many times do I have to tell you, Lady Somerset, that there isn’t a ladylike bone in my entire body…” The red-haired witch said with a loud laugh. She even moved to clutch her stomach because of how ridiculous the noble title sounded in front of her name. She was a Bull, a commoner and a witch. The noblest thing about her was probably the metal chinks on her one-piece armor. Once she was back on her two feet, still chuckling she’d turn to Artemis briefly and tell her to just call her “Rosalia.” [break][break]
After this brief conversation she watched her ally turn towards her temple, and immediately noticed the way her posture shifted. Artemis was like a cat. One could see when she was tense with ease. And the way her mana flared up like peacock feathers…yes, the Green Mantis was 100% ready for anything that came at them, and perhaps Rosalia should’ve concentrated more as well. She had her whip out and followed Artemis to the old haunted temple. [break][break] It’s structure was magnificent. Ancient marble curved into spires that perhaps extended tall and glowed in the sunlight. The rays went through colorful murals and painted the floor in their colors, creating a magical feeling in those who saw them. Now the place was a ruin, marble painted black with age and dust, windows shattered, their colors lost as they turned to sand. It was an archeological disaster, which made the inner closet nerd inside of Rosalia want to cry. [break][break] But her gorgeous pale-haired ally snapped her attention back to reality when she spoke about being here before, and finally spotting their enemies. Spirit-like women, floating around, heading for them. They had split between them, four each it seemed. They were visages that she hated. Ladies with glowing eyes and tears imprinted on their faces like tattoos. “Well, if that’s what symmetry demands…needs must!” The Black Bull mage said with a grin as she tore away from her friend and unraveled her whip, scanning the way the columns were places around the room, so she knew if she had any freedom to maneuver her weapon around. [break][break] She could count two from where she was standing, and those would have to be enough for the moment. Cracking her Frostbite whip, the magically-enhanced whip of ice whirred and extended with a wave towards the very first banshee that dared to screech at her. The sound made Rosalia shake her head before watching the whip strike her between the eyes and turn her to dust. She could feel Artemis’ Mana flare up as she fought near her, but she could trust the woman with her back, and knew she didn’t have to worry about her for the most part unless the situation got extremely dicey. [break][break] As the whip’s end was still in the air, Rosalia would grab onto one of the loose sections near her and use the momentum to swing it at the nearby column, maneuvering it around in order to strike another one of the banshees away just as it’s mana flared up for a spell. Unfortunately for her, her whip was long, so she wouldn’t be able to retract it in time, having to physically move away from the sound magic projectiles that the banshees released in her direction. [break][break] “Ice creation Magic: Winter’s Kiss.” The woman called out, her grimoire flaring up with a dark light as Rosalia leaned back before breathing out a cone of spiky black ice shards, disintegrating the other two banshees who had moved almost in front of her. She wiped her lips and glanced over at Artemis’ direction. “Fucking hell. I don’t like these ladies.” She’d hiss before taking notice of her noble friend’s beautiful water bow and her skill in dispatching her enemies. Clearly this wasn’t her first time dealing with whatever these things were. Her ruby hues glared over at Artemis as she cracked her whip and easily maneuvered its length over to slam into one of the remaining floating ghost women that were targeting the Mantis. “The fuck are these things?” She’d cuss out, a bit annoyed but also genuinely curious. It seemed that Malcolm was affecting her speech habits as well, but she was too busy to actually spend time wondering how much time she’d been spending recently with her Captain, considering she even spoke like him on occasion. The witch could mull over that later. [break][break]

Description: Rosalia opens her pretty red lips and breathes a cone of miniature black ice spikes, so small that they appear a painful black blizzard to her enemies who take senior damage upon impact. Allies found within the range of the Winter's Kiss (Including the caster) instead receive a senior rank shield of black glacial mana that will protect them.[break][break]
“Rosalia it is,” Artemis would comment as she finished off the two mana beasts that had tried their hand against her. “Though, please give me the honour of calling me Artemis.” She continued, her eyes now searching for any sign of danger. Her voice was loud enough to carry it through the temple itself, with it being almost devoid of any type of sound dampener. This meant that anybody shouting would hear their voices bounced around; echoes would be the term for it. “Calling me a Lady might be proper decorum, but between comrades, it is not required nor expected.” Artemis shrugged, “I would rather have you as a friend than anything else, after all.” Decorum only created barriers during a team mission, and Artemis would rather have anything unnecessary set aside while on official Magic Knights business.[break][break]
Artemis looked around, realizing that there should be two more spirits that had been gunning for her. Moonsong was held at the ready, as she surveyed around her. The temple was filled with the sounds of combat. As expected, Artemis found herself drawn to the image of Rosalia fighting. The woman’s ice magic was something to behold, strong in its execution, and very dazzling in its visage. Her water magic felt like a step down from such an element, though technically speaking, ice itself was water made solid. She would shake her head, getting herself back into the fight.[break][break] “Where are you…” Artemis would whisper to herself, having lost sight of the two banshees. They were not left. Nor were they right. She can sense that they were not behind her, nor they were in front of her. That meant only one thing.[break][break]
“Up.”[break][break]
Artemis shot an arrow upward, and was rewarded with a screech as the arrow pierced one of the banshees straight through its head. Artemis looked only, only to find the banshees falling down straight towards her. She quickly dodged, leaping back twice as she made distance between her and the last banshee, who had tried to swipe at her while its companion was suffering from its wound. Artemis would watch in silence as the banshee tried to pry off the arrow lodged in its head, before slowly succumbing to the damage. She was sure that her spell should have killed it in one shot, though she was not surprised that the banshee lived a few seconds longer than it should. Moonsong was a new spell, after all, and therefore was not as mastered as she had liked for the spell to be.[break][break]
“One last.” The banshee charged, but instead of shooting her last arrow, Artemis met the banshee head on. With her bow, she slid and swiped at it from the bottom, using the bow’s wings as a pseudo short spear. The damage was clean, and the banshee could only wail as it was severed in two. [break][break]
“Rosalia, it seems we’re done here.” She would call out, as she watched the Black Bulls mage finish up her own banshees. “I fear that this might not be the last we see them.” Artemis shook her head. “These banshees, they like this temple too much. There must be something here that draws them…” She trailed off, before heading out. “Let’s report this then.” Another job done, and another day over with.

Rosalia smiled at the sudden first name basis. My my my, this was a pleasant surprise. Every fiber of the witch’s being wanted to refer to Artemis by her title. It was what her brothers had imprinted into her for so many years with a heavy hand. Zaven had been the first to break through that, by consistently reminding her to forget his title. She still struggled with it, in all honesty, but she would do her best to try, especially since the Green Mantis asked her to consider her a friend. “Thank you for the honors, I’ll do my best…you’ll find it’s usually a habit that I have a hard time getting rid of.” The woman explained to her ally with a smile. Practice made perfect, after all. Maybe not Nobles were all that bad. Zaven and Artemis were different enough from her expectations to give her a shot at seeing that. [break][break] The Black Bull would watch Artemis survey the battlefield for the other mana beasts that scowered the area for them. And she was quick in her instincts. She could find her enemies without a problem, quickly moving her intricate water bow up and landing a shot on the enemy. One of spirit-women moved fast and almost managed to land a hit on the Green Mantis, making Rosalia tug on her whip, ready to help if Artemis needed. The white-haired noble, however, displayed some serious close-combat prowess as she sliced the last banshee in half with a weird contraption on her bow. It looked neat. Having a long-range bow that was useful at short-range was a neat trick. The ice witch’s whip was different completely, as she considered it best optimized at medium-range, somewhere between 30 and 70 feet. When an enemy got too close she tended to use it as a way to propel herself away from them. It was her own little nifty trick. Sometimes, she felt like Tarzan when she swung around columns or tree-branches. It was a pain to learn physics-wise though. [break][break] Artemis would call out to her as she was done, earning a smile from Rosalia, she totally hadn’t been enjoying the gorgeous woman’s fight. It was then that she learned that they were done with their job. The Magic Knight could not sense anymore mana signatures other than their own in this place. So those were Banshees huh? She’d read about these things before in horror stories. She hated that genre with a passion. Something about prideful elves not wanting to help humans and getting cursed to be ugly forever, including the afterlife. [break][break] “Sounds like a plan, it was a pleasure to work with you, Lady Somerset.” The woman said with a bow. Her words were truthful; the Green Mantis always made whatever job they ended up having to do together easier, and was pleasant company. [break][break] But now that this was done successfully, perhaps she could go explore Kiten a bit, buy herself a book or two and wonder how she would even let her Captain know she could now legally challenge him for the Vice Captain title.
