Just another day in the wonderful and exciting life of the young man Chisana Shengxiao, he was making his way back to the Black Bulls squad base from his family’s household. The family had a meeting earlier just to go over branch duties and simple stuff that was being passed to the other members of the family and to keep everyone within the loop of information. It was a necessity for the family that was trying to regain it’s former glory that it had in the past and if Chisana was to every become the Star of his Branch he needed to take it seriously, but with how much training and learning he was doing with his Captain he was beginning to tune out the family to focus on the more imminent goals he had set for himself. The most important one currently was to learn everything he could about the Captain and from the Captain, he had become Chisana’s latest and most intense interest and obsession since he had joined the haphazard Magic Knight squad.
To Chisana, Malcolm was the Mountain that Chisana needed to climb to be able to put his plans for the future into action so Malcolm was now the main focus of Chisana’s life. He trained with him as much as possible, he listened to every story he could from the captain and about the captain, he slowly learned his mannerisms, he could almost put on a pretty convincing impression of the captain, slowly he was building his foundation, Chisana was very much a person who like the expression, “Eat the Chicken, Spit out the Bones.”
As he entered the Base he made his way to the training area since it was a bit before the normal time that the Captain begun his training regime for the squad and himself, though Chisana knew that the Captain liked to train about 3 different times before he even threw the squad into their portion of training that he made sure they did regardless of any of their statuses or complaints. He tended to tell them if they had an issue they could voice it to him in the ring and if they won he would listen but if he won they shut the hell up and get back to the training he had told them to do in the first place. The Captain had yet to lose yet in those cases though he rarely had challengers besides the new nobles or stuck up brats that were use to doing things their way and only their way.
It was still a funny sight to see the captain show mild annoyance when Chisana still volunteered for Sparring practice with the Captain, he was one of the very few squad members that actively went against him whenever he could. Many called Chisana a masochist and an idiot for constantly challenging the archmage Beast Aura user, They were also the same people who laid around the base all day or hid in their rooms to avoid missions and challenges that the Captain loved to issue to his members. After all if it wasn’t for the Captain, Chisana himself wouldn’t have went and completed the dungeons he had been tasked with doing so early in his “career”.
Now he approached the training area and he could see Malcolm already working up a sweat as he continued to train himself before he trained the rest of the squad. “Sir,” Chisana would call out, “Mind if I join you in your warm-up?” He would begin to follow along with Malcolm’s workout it wasn’t the first time he had joined him and had gotten quite use to what his warm-up routine was which for most people and at first Chisana also was basically a full workout in itself.

Malcolm woke up a little before dawn that morning, getting to his training in earnest today as he had felt the need to make his body even better for when the time came for a Vice Captain challenge inevitably happened in the Black Bulls magic knight squad. He had just finished a brisk 15km run and was drinking from a small canteen that almost looked comical in the man’s hand. When Chisana approached and asked if he could join in, the captain of the Black Bulls just nodded. He had grown used to the constant pestering from the mage...some would even tease and say that the kid was a little version of him, to which he would laugh it off and agree with the people that say it. Having a protege was something that any successful mage could think of, but Chisana was always so...eager. Malcolm did hate that about him sometimes…
”Alright then kid...the training is gonna be different this time then. We are going to start off with some strength training, using the lifting stones, we are going to hold them and carry them as far as we possibly can.” The captain would say as he pointed to the stones. ”Next...we are going to take turns throwing the stones to each other...that way our legs and arms receive the proper beating...and our core tightens up and allows us to accept more brutal training...We have three hours to do this, hope you are ready.”

“Oh joy, my best pals the stone bros.” Chisana would mutter to himself as he gazed at the stones the Captain pointed at. When he had first joined the Black Bulls upon being told the man he had sparred with to get into the squad was in fact his captain and being pretty much hazed by the man, he was then “requested” to transport said stones to the other side of the base due to them “needed” a vacation and to get some new light. It took him the better part of the day for that task and while he had been in decent physical condition back then due to his own training and the fights he had gotten in with local thugs nothing truly prepares you for carrying a giant rock. Now a days it was common to lift those stones with the Captain in his workouts, so was running till you threw up at least four different times but no matter what Chisana could already feel the benefits of the spartan like training there weren’t many mages in his group that could face him physically and every day he grew in his magical prowess.
“I’ll beat you this time Captain.” Chisana would say with a smile on his face, he always needed to make it a challenge. It was how his mind worked, if he didn’t make it a challenge he felt that the captain wouldn’t respond appropriately, after all Chisana wanted to be seen as a real challenger not just some pup who only knew how to bark at bigger dogs. Picking out his new partner which was a stone that weighed close to what his own weight he rolled up his sleeves and took the appropriate stance to pick up the big bitch of stone, the process was important to follow for him or he could injure himself. Once he had the stone picked up and put on his shoulder he begun the long trek of just one foot in front of the other. The Captain tended to be one that loved a quicker workout with people but he never seemed to fault those who went slow as long as they didn’t slack or goof off during it, but Chisana had set himself a hard pace that was something he could manage quite while now and kept going hoping that the little bit of a headstart he had gotten would give him the space needed to possibly win.
Chisana highly doubted he would win in endurance against the Captain but he had long pushed that knowledge from his mind and continued till he had to put the stone down. “Now how far will the Captain go today?” Chisana mumbled to himself as he watched his Captain, there was a chance he would have to continue his trip to match his captain more out of a sense of pride and not wanting to be a burden. Chisana tended to make sure that if he didn’t reach where the captain stopped he would reach said spot with however many trips needed till he did. WC:516 TWC:1149

This kid...had grown on the Black Bull captain, that was for sure. He knew that the more that he trained the kid, the more he would respond in kind. It would not be long before the kid got strong enough to challenge for the Vice Captain spot, but he still had much to learn, and more hurdles to climb over before he got there. He would stretch before hearing Chisana challenge him again and he just looked over at the kid before scratching the back of his head. ”If you lose this time, no spars for a week and you have to carry both stones up to the top of the base and then back down...before sunset or no food today.” Malcolm would say with a cheeky grin, the damn kid always had to issue a challenge, otherwise he feared the kid was sick...not like some of the other Black Bulls.
Lifting the stone with relative ease he would look back to see Chisana having already hefted the stone up to his shoulder. “You are gonna hurt yourself doing it that way, but I cannot stop you from doing it your way...even if it is wrong, Well if you are ready let’s begin.” He would say before holding the stone in front of him like he was carrying a bag of garden soil the entire way. It was normal to just load up buckets of stone, but it was also risky doing that, as it requires good balance or disaster was bound to happen.
Malcolm kept a brisk pace as he began to breath audibly about halfway into the run, it seemed as though the captain was not going to make it easy for the young bull that studied his every moment.

Chisana watched as the Captain got into his carrying stance and noted how he held the stone. Chisana would keep the shoulder hold for quite awhile into the challenge and then when it got to uncomfortable he slowly swapped into the same stance as the Captain keeping the majority of the weight on his chest like he was trying to crush the rock to his body. It wasn't the most fun exercise or challenge that Chisana had been given by the Captain but like all the rest the young Shengxiao would push himself to the fullest of his ability.
By how the Captain was sounding even this far into the challenge Chisana could tell he was going to lose this one unless the Captain decided to let him off the hook but that didn't make the Shengxiao stutter or falter in his movements if anything it made him shape up his form and focus purely on taking just another step after the last. He had stopped watching the Captain and paying attention to him during this time and dived into his own mind where the only thoughts going through it was "Just another step."

Just about halfway through their run he heard something...the sound of someone screaming for help not too far away. He looked back at Chisana and then towards the noise as he stopped and dropped the stone, and scanned the direction the noise was coming from, by the time his junior had caught up, Malcolm had already taken off in that direction, moving faster than Chisana had probably ever seen him move before. There was something wrong and the captain of the Black Bulls was not about to stand by when it was near his base.
As he ran he heard the scream again, it was to his left and inside the woods...whoever was doing something terrible to cause the scream did not obviously know that the base was this close. Upon his arrival, he saw that there was a group of men huddled around a small group of women and they looked to not be in the best of conditions. He sighed before picking up a pebble and then throwing that fucker as hard as he could he pelted one of the men in the back of the head to announce his arrival. The sound of the pebble hitting that man in the head was like taking the first bite from a tree with an ax.
"Hey fuckers...you really can't be so fucking dumb to think that you would get away with this shit this close to a Magic Knight base...Come on and get your asses over here so I can fuckin beat your asses and get these girls home...you are wasting valuable training time." He said this as the men looked at him wide eyed and some scared, some with annoyance...what would be their next move.

"Why is this rock so damn heavy?" The young Shengxiao said to himself as he continued to carry his self implaced burden well not really placed there by himself it was a typical training occurence with the Captain but still he knew that if he didn't seek him out so much that his days would be less filled with carrying heavy stuff and just being bored and lethargic. There was some noise off in the distance but for Chisana he wasn't paying much attention besides making sure to get as far as Malcolm with his rock or at least close enough to see his improvement so he was busy watching his steps and his Captain. When he saw Malcolm glance back at him and drop his boulder and dash off into the woods Chisana knew something was going on. He quickly used his strength to get his rock to where his Captain's was and drop it there, He looked to the woods and took of as fast as he was able to move trying to follow the captain to where ever he had gone off too.
Luckily he was guided by the more noticeable sound of screaming and when he arrived at the clearing he heard the sound of what could only be described as someone smacking an ax into a tree but he scanned the surrounding and only noticed some not so nice looking thugs and a woman, though he did notice one of the group laying on the ground not moving to much. The scene reminded the young Shengxiao about the times he had been ganged up on as a child and the understanding of what could have happened to the woman clicked into his head, Chisana wasn't the type to typically "see red" as people called it but things got dark for the young man. He somehow kept his mind about him and focused solely on getting the woman out of the area and away from the thugs.
Chisana let out a breath and quicker then he had moved ever before dashed to the woman who was still in a state of shock and dashed back out of the area far gone from the reaches of the thugs even if they had been in their right mind they were still in shock by the sudden appearance of the duo and the sudden dispatch of one of their comrades by the bigger man who had arrived.
"Stay back here miss and close your eyes. The Bulls are here to deal with the pests." Chisana said with a friendly smile that didn't reach his eyes. He was ready to fight and now he had taken care of the woman nothing would stop the Captain and him from running wild.

Seeing Chisana dash in and grab just one of the women he knew he had immediately lost all intimidating factors as he just sighed. He lit up a cigarette and sucked in a breath as the smooth tasting smoke rolled into his mouth and then into his lungs before being pressed back out in an exhale.
"Next time Chisana...grab more than one woman...you left two." He said as the thugs all looked back at Malcolm, some snickering. "No matter though, time to show you why I am the de facto...Black Bull." He said as he used his beast aura mana to transform his torso into that of something like a bull. Effectively the captain became a minotaur as he rushed into the fray. The thugs swarmed him and began to punch at him. Malcolm had already left the rest to Chisana without saying a word as he delivered an uppercut to a thug, and grabbing another with his right arm and pulling him into a headlock before wrenching his arm until the man actually passed out. One of the thugs grabbed a large branch and smashed it across the captain's back which only resulted in the captain of the Black Bulls turning his head and huff with amusement. "TRY HARDER!" He said as he delivered a back kick that sent the man flying back into a tree.
Meanwhile, the women that were left in the group all looked to be scared, except for the one that Chisana saved. She looked worried for the men that Malcolm was beating up. She instinctively pulled a knife out and pressed it to the back of the young Black Bull before calling out. "STOP BEATING THEM UP NOW! OR I WILL KILL THIS LITTLE SHITTY BULL! She said as she looked to Malcolm, who had begun to see red. The group of girls left alone looked frightened...what was wrong with their friend...also why did she stick up for her attackers...unless it was all a clever ruse.

Chisana had a moment of shock a swift as a lightning strike pulse through his body, the woman he had just saved was threatening to kill him. It was a moment that he had only dealt with on a lesser scale back with one so called “friend” back in his home village, though in that memory he had simply had to deal with a bunch of kids looking to jump the weirdly big kid who talked to snakes. Now he was older, stronger, faster and a Magic Knight here to help save these people. It was one of those moments that truly molded a person going forward, the bit of naivety that had been in Chisana that he hadn’t even realized he still had melted away as the anger inside him built to the breaking point. It felt like a chain had broken inside the young Shengxiao, his mind raced a thousand miles per hour taking in the situation and dumping information into his mind at a rate he was unsure how he kept up with it. The other girls moved in slow motion, looks of disbelief and fear plastered there faces with some confusion dipped in, they were “innocent” at the moment and this scum of the earth that held the knife to him was obviously with this band of thugs.
Chisana moved quickly, though not quick enough to avoid some injury from the woman. A hot flash tore down the back of the young man, but he hardly felt it as he quickly spun around the inside of the woman’s arm, looping his arm over hers and stepping close to her. He quickly reared back and slammed his head into the woman’s with enough force to knock her out and possibly fracture the front of her skull, though at this point Chisana didn’t care he was already moving as the woman dropped to the ground. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the anger and adrenaline flowing through his body but he felt light and fast, maybe the training he had dealt with by Lydia was paying off or it was just probably a surge of mana and chemicals his brain was pushing through him that allowed him to move at the speeds he did.
Like a flash he was gone, grabbing the rest of the women and moving them also to safety he moved away from them unlike last time just in case they were also apart of the group at least they were separate from the rest now. In the back of his mind Chisana was starting to feel a slight pang of pain seeping into his body but he pushed it down deep, the fight wasn’t over and he wouldn’t allow himself to stop moving till it was.

Malcolm laughed as he saw Chisana buck up and make his move...the little bastard had done it...he had broken the wall that was holding him back. Good that will help the young man when it was time for the Black Bull to eventually step down and let the youngsters have their time. The thugs were just small fry...not even with some sort of syndicate, but to Malcolm they were just as bad for the sin of human trafficking made his sick. They were even using the forest between Sosshi and the base as a way to cover their tracks...Fuckin’ bastards. Malcolm sighed as only two were left and they pulled out small knives. They looked angry and Malcolm just gave a shrug. He was going to give the fucks in the village that acted as the watchdogs a piece of his fist after this for sure.
A few moments later Malcolm had actually used his transformation magic to fashion pseudo cuffs to keep them all restrained for the time being. He hollered out for Chisana as he scratched the back of his head, reaching into his pocket and noticed his cigarettes were broken in the scuffle. ”Son of a…” He went over to one of the men and found a pack of cigs and some matches that he used right then and there. ”CHISANA! GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE AND BRING THE WOMEN! I NEED TO HAVE A CHAT!” The Black Bull, Malcolm Watanabe said before taking a long drag from the cigarette and blowing the smoke into the man’s face he just yelled near the man’s ear a moment ago...he was sure the thug was about to piss himself.

Chisana’s body was still tense and alert though the effects of the rush of adrenaline and mana was slowly wearing off and the dull pain he was feeling in his back was starting to get a lot more intense the more he moved, but he walked over to the still knocked out woman who had betrayed his trust so easily and not to gracefully grabbed her arm and simply dragged her limp body over to his captain. His vision was starting to get blurry as he made his way over and he shook his head thinking it must be the sweat from the amount of effort he had just put out but no matter how much he tried to wipe his face there was no clearing his eyesight. “Sir, here is the woman just like you asked. I think something is wrong.” Chisana said with what he thought was perfect annotation but his mouth was feeling numb and his body was getting cold. The sun was bright and burning, and with the amount of exercise they had done prior to this incident had definitely been enough to warm them up so there wasn’t any logical reason that the young Shengxiao could think of.
His body felt heavy, hands clammy and sweaty, his breathing was coming in harder and harder. What was wrong with him he hadn’t taken any injury so what could be happening to him? Chisana’s thoughts raced not connecting the dots as his body was trying to tell him that the slash the woman had gotten him with earlier was worse then he had imagined. The sweat he thought was running down his back was a slow but steady trickle of blood and it had been made worse from the extreme amount of motion he had just done to move the rest of the woman to safety. The young man had never suffered an injury like this before and had nothing to base it off of. “Cap..tain..” Chisana dropped to his knees.

He looked at Chisana as he came back with the women, the kid was fucking resourceful for sure...that much could always be said about the young Black Bull. He then could smell it before he saw the looks on the women's faces, Chisana had been gravely injured. He raced forward just as his junior was dropping to his knees.
"Always trying to be like me...you big dumbass." He sighed as he saw a few other Black Bulls coming to their aid. He gave the orders to return the women home and to take the men and female accomplice to the authorities. He carried Chisana back to the base and had him laid out in his own bed, he quickly went to his room and returned with a jar of medicinal salve that he had made.
"Little shit, Once you make it through this...I am going to make sure to train you twice as much." He sighed as he personally saw to the Shengxaio's treatment, and after a few hours, he had sewn the wound shut, put the salve on, and finally bandaged the man he began to push his mana into the salve to make it activate...the salve began to work, a new scar being transferred to his own back...the leader of the Black Bulls was unorthodox...but he cared for his squadmates. When Chisana awoke he would feel 50% better, and his healing rate would increase as well. All in all, he would take three days to heal and Malcolm would gain a new scar across his back.

Chisana awoke to the sight of both an unfamiliar ceiling but also very familiar. It took a moment for him to realize that he was back at the Black Bull Base. His mouth felt as dry as sand and his body ached like he had decided to carry a boulder up a mountain then proceed to fight said mountain. After a few moments he felt a bit better like his body was slowly realizing it was time to get up and move, though he was still trying to figure out what had happened and why he was here. His mind flashing back to the interaction with the thugs, women and Captain malcolm. It seemed that something had caused him to pass out and most likely he had been brought back by Malcolm. It was the most logical outcome he could think of, though he hadn't quite understood why he had passed out. Chisana had trained daily with the captain and with Lydia, his body was as tough as steel and his mind was well use to the struggle of keeping up in those sessions. It wasn't till he tried to stand up that a shock of pain ran down his back, it almost put him on his knees. He reached back to see if there was something there but he couldn't feel a thing at least not at first he felt a very slight rise of the skin on his back and he quickly moved to find a mirror.
He stripped the shirt he had on and on his back was a long scar that was so faint that you wouldn't notice it unless you payed attention to the young Shengxiao's back. If it wasn't for the slight feel as he touched it Chisana would think it was his mind playing tricks on him or possibly a crack in the mirror but there it was. Like a strand of spider silk it lined from his right shoulder blade crossing his spine to the middle of his back. "It seems I have gained a reminder of my mistakes." Chisana mumbled to himself. The pain that sparked as he moved lessened once he limber up but it was still there like a dull reminder of his naivety. "I'll have to thank the Captain for him saving me, I'm sure he is gonna run me ragged because of this." Chisana had a slight smile on his face and made his way to thank Malcolm and continue forth with his journey of being a Magic Knight. He would use this incident to grow and become the person he needed to be.
