[break] A redhead cautiously made her way down the busy streets of Silva. Though her chin was up and her posture was upright, her every motion spoke of her wariness and stiff discomfort. It was her first time in the Noble Region, and her first time in this majestic town. The very atmosphere of this town was vastly different from what she was used to, and it bothered her more than she would care to admit. [break][break] The young woman looked like a tense cat that was about to spring on the slightest disturbance. She was a nobody, just another commoner who was raised as such and thought as such. The extravagant displays of wealth and power were everywhere, from the storefronts to the townsfolk's outfits. On multiple instances, she was tempted to wrinkle her nose at the outrageousness of it all, and barely managed to smooth her outward countenance to a poker face. Indeed, she would not be here if it were not for her looking at new weapons. Namely, knives. [break][break] Bright eyes glittered as they searched down the street for a certain weaponry shop. Today, her grey eyes looked almost emerald in the glowing sunlight. She had heard that there were many top-notch traders in this area, and the prospect of finding a new blade to add to her collection was enough to convince her to step into this territory. The thought quickened her steps, and she was about to brush past some people in her way when a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm. Immediately, Genesis yanked herself free from the grip, and her hand flew to her dagger. She would have pulled it out and slashed out if it were not for the old woman’s hands, which were held up in surrender. [break][break] “Calm down, calm down, dearie. I just wanted to get a good look at your face.” [break][break] Her eyebrows furrowed. The old lady did not look threatening, although the bold way she had grabbed her was pushing the young femme’s personal boundaries. From the corner of her eye, she could sense other pairs of eyes staring. Genesis bit her tongue, then relaxed her stance. It would not do to cause a scene here, especially in such a major street of town. [break][break] “What do you want?” Her right hand had left the handle of her dagger, but her senses were still fully alert. [break][break] The elderly matron standing in front of her was dressed in fine clothes, a stark contrast to the commoner’s plain and dark outfit. The former was critically analyzing her face, and was staring intently on her scar. Genesis wanted to roll her eyes. Yes, she was born with that ‘cursed’ scar. That was nothing new, yet everyone she met kept looking at it like it was a novelty. [break][break] The lady hmm’d. “You’d do perfectly. Come on in, sweetie.” [break][break] She balked. “Why?” What was going on? Who was this woman? And what did she want with her? [break][break] “We’re the Cloversationist, Clover’s most elite fashion magazine!” The matron waved upwards at the shop sign that hung above them. “Our regular models have fallen sick, and we desperately need someone to fill their place. You have great features, and that scar would be perfect for our shoot topic this week!” [break][break] “Model?” The very thought of it was completely foreign to her. [break][break] Seeing how the younger woman was hesitating, the old lady sighed. “If it means anything, yes, you will be paid handsomely.” [break][break] Genesis’ eyes lit up at the word ‘paid.’ She was just a wandering citizen, and earning a little yul was always a welcomed thing. Especially if she was going to go shop for a new blade. “All right.” She allowed herself to be led inside the building, and almost missed the recruiter’s mutterings. [break][break] “Drat. We’re still missing a male model for this shoot...”

[attr="class","vaileshadowsscroll"] It wasn’t the first time he was in the namesake town of Silva. He did have some Silva blood running in his veins after all. Father was a half, that made him a quarter. The rest? It didn’t matter much afterward. [break][break] Silver hair looked out across the harbor, looking to blue waves that crashed onto the wooden pilings of the pier. He had no particular reason for being there… did he? Just another wandering thought, lost to the wind. [break][break] It was better to be out, to let the wind take him wherever it happened to do so. Crimson eyes looked longingly for something and yet nothing at all. [break][break]
“Behind you."
[break] Her words ghosted in his ears, the voice of someone who was nothing but an illusion that still haunted his every step. [break][break] “Sir?!” He turned just in time to see a young woman with a blushed face tapping him on the shoulder. She breathed heavily, her hands shaking a bit with her frantic look. Plain auburn hair was tousled into a messy bun and emerald green eyes looked up to him in earnest. [break][break] “Um, yes miss? Is there something I can do for you-?” But he was cut off by that same verdant green stare. She scanned him, up and down, left and right, even getting a bit too much into his personal space. He sensed her presence, feeling nothing particularly predatory about it. He supposed he could simply go along with it… [break][break] “Sir, you are remarkably handsome.” [break][break] Vaile blinked once, then twice again. The faint hint of pink was hard to hide as the heat rushed to his cheeks. What a remarkably blunt comment. He supposed it was a comment, his looks weren’t spectacular, at least he believed so. But it was easy to call him handsome, perhaps turning to pretty with angular, fine features that had found themselves on both the receiving end and otherwise of flirtatious comments. “Thank you, Miss. That’s uh, certainly something, some people have said about m-me...” [break][break] “Would you please help me, Sir? You’re the only one who can!” [break][break] Her cry for help was something he couldn't ignore, even if the lead up to it was still rather strange. He lowered his shoulders, trying to even comprehend what possible circumstance the young woman had gotten herself into that she needed a ‘remarkably handsome’ individual for. [break][break] “I suppose I… can’t say no.” He didn’t quite say yes either. [break][break] “Oh thank you! Thank you! You’ll be paid for it as well!” And before he knew it, he was already being dragged off to who knew where to do God knew what. [break][break] But at least, he was getting paid for it.

TL;DR Vaile is also picked up off the street! You can go ahead and have them meet up at the studio if you wish.
[break] Genesis stood inside the building, eyes darting from side to side and her entire posture stiff. She was no nobility, and she was not acquainted with this term ‘modeling.’ If anything, she was scorned in the past for the scar on her face. Who were these people, who thought it was worthy to be captured in a picture? Heck, if it were not for the money, she would not have thought twice of turning the recruiter down. The people working inside of the building were all busy, and her entrance had caused only a couple heads to turn. She was immensely relieved, as she hated attention. For the first few seconds, she was unsure as to what she should be doing or where she should go, but she was quickly saved by the appearance of a young man. [break][break] The man—an apprentice, it seems—ran up to her and gestured at her to follow him. “Name’s Adrian. Follow me, please!” The redhead slowly followed him to the back of the building. He opened a door, and she was greeted with the sight of dozens and dozens of outfits hanging from the walls. It was like a rainbow of color. Not only were there clothes in every color imaginable, the variety of styles were astounding. “This is the women’s closet.” He explained quickly. “We have another one for the men.” [break][break] “Wow...” She breathed. Although she was not a girly girl, there were a few outfits that caught her eye. She ran a hand through the fabrics, admiring the quality of it. However, she knew that she would never, ever be caught wearing these types of dresses. Never. [break][break] “This week’s theme is somewhat strange, but I think you will have no problems with that...” The young man was critically appraising her outfit. It seemed that he liked what he saw. “Wait here. I have to make sure Mel found a male model so we can coordinate your outfits.” [break][break] Once again, Genesis was left alone to herself, but now she had a whole closet to admire and study. Some were obviously for the wealthy or upper class, with elaborate designs and lace all over the place. She wrinkled her nose at those. The ones that caught her interest were the darker-hued outfits. Some were modest and plain, and some were incredibly revealing. She had no busty figure to boast of, but she had the striking grey-green eyes and bright crimson hair to make up for it. [break][break] Thankfully, it was only a matter of minutes that the young man—Adrian, was it?—reappeared. “We got him!” The young woman furrowed her eyebrows, but before she could question who it was, someone entered the scene…

[attr="class","vaileshadowsscroll"] He learned a few things as he was dragged through the streets of Silva. The girl, aptly called “Mel,” was quite the talker, so much so that Vaile himself didn’t get many chances to ask many questions. [break][break] Models were suddenly of short supply? Models? As in the pretty people found in magazines and posters? And Vaile only had to think of why such a studio would instead be picking people off the street. [break][break] Only moments later he would be dragged through the door of the aforementioned studio. He was immediately barraged by another man, who simply so much adored giving him compliments like ‘Mel.’ [break][break] “Oh look at you too, absolutely perfect together! I can already see it now! The dash of crimson red, silver-white like an angel sent down from the gods above!” [break][break] ‘Adrian’ was truly invading his personal space as much so, if not more so, than Mel before him. The amount of time spent looking at his eyes and the careful smoothing of his hair and the scrutinizing of every other part of his body made the shadow mage truly wonder what he had gotten himself into. [break][break] After the immediate fussing, the man went away for a moment discussing something about subject set-up and the layering of lighting that still seemed to go over Vaile’s still confused head. [break][break] It was only then he was able to realize that there indeed was, a second person there. [break][break] He sighed, running a hand through his hair. He wore gloves, black, dark leather. Overall, his attire was casual enough, a loose dark collared shirt, plain slacks and boots, and of course, by his side a grimoire with the matching black leather bindings. Indeed, despite his rather pale complexion, he tended to wear black clothing, making his lighter tone stick out a bit more, almost as if he was a ghost. His clothing was fine in appearance, but the neatness of it and the quality of it did relay a sense of class, the high class. [break][break]
He looked over to his apparent partner in unfortunate circumstances, it was easy to tell by her similar looks of bewildered puzzlement she’d been unlucky enough to be dragged off the street like he was. At least, he didn’t have any particular plans that day. Red hair, emerald green eyes. She was a fair bit younger he was as well and there was a noticeable scar that marred her eye. But she was beautiful, almost exotic in her striking features. [break][break] Of course, he noticed that she did not carry herself with an air of nobility. Immediately, he read her mana, finding that shadows graced her presence. Crimson eyes narrowed slightly in jaded curiosity. [break][break]
“Interesting.”
[break]His ghost always had something to say. [break][break] “Heh,” He gave a low chuckle. “Well Miss, it seems as if you’re just as new to this modeling career as I am.” Crossing his arms, his shoulders hunched in a slight shrug. [break][break] Indeed.
[break] A tall figure had stepped into the space, and immediately Genesis bristled. He had the looks and airs of nobility, and her consciousness at her low status made her balk at the intrusion. Though she was not against nobles persay, it was the general impression that most of them had among the commoners. She was against the lazy and the passive, and especially those who used their natural talents and their comfortable cradles to suppress those under them. That was something she held against those in power, and was always uptight when she was in the presence of one. Such as now. [break][break] She eyed him warily. There was no denying that he was a fine specimen, and the grace which he carried himself only added to his handsome features. He was taller than most people she has met, and she would guess that many have fallen under his magnetic charms before. However, that was not why she felt so drawn to him. Why did he feel so familiar? She had never met him before. She casually felt out his mana, and was taken aback to discover that he had traces of what seemed to be a similar element, if not the same. Well, what a surprise. [break][break] It also seemed that he had reached the same conclusion. “Indeed.” She was actually really intrigued, but was not about to show her curiosity so easily. “I could say the same about you.” She was about to add in a snarky comment, but Adrian butted in. [break][break] “You two will look perfect together!” The assistant clapped his hands together, eyes beaming at whatever possibility he was thinking of. “Our photographer would be very pleased!” [break][break] This time the redhead really did roll her eyes, not caring if the male model saw it or not. “My time is money,” she said shortly. “What are we doing?” Short, concise, and terribly blunt. That was her style, and she could care less if others were offended by it. After all, they were the ones who were hiring her, not the other way around. [break][break] “Of course!” Adrian did not seem a bit ruffled at this; he must be used to dealing with impatient models all the time. She had to give him that. “Our theme this week is the beach! And you two—” A beaming smile appeared on the young man’s face. “—have the bodies for it!” [break][break] Mel had appeared again, this time with two outfits, and Genesis was appalled to see what she would be wearing. They had picked out a black bikini set for her, designed to fit her curves—if any—and show off her fit form. At least there was a white and red striped mini-skirt that she was wearing, so it would not just be her flashing her butt in her barely-there thong. There was also this ridiculous headpiece and a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses she had to wear. Ugh, they better be paying me a lot for this. [break][break] Before she could comment on anything, she felt herself being pushed into some sort of changing room. Mel had given Adrian the male model’s clothes, and she assumed that the other shadow mage would be subjected to the same thing. She had only seen what she was going to wear, and did not really notice what the man’s outfit would be, but she had a suspicion that he would look good in anything. [break][break] Genesis changed quickly. The sooner this could be over, the sooner she could be out there with money in her pocket and hopefully a new blade in her hand. She looked at herself in the mirror inside the changing room, and could barely recognize herself. Who was this mature yet fierce-looking girl staring back at her? [break][break] When she stepped out, Mel squealed and started to gush over how perfect she looked, how fit her body was, how her red hair looked so fierce. “Let’s just get this over with.” Just like Adrian, the female assistant did not even seem to notice her abrupt attitude, and led her over to the photoshoot scene. Or, what she assumed was the scene. At the moment, it was just an empty blank canvas on the side of a wall, and she turned questioningly towards the other girl. [break][break] “If you’re wondering about the backdrop, that’s what Adrian and I are here for!” Mel pointed to herself proudly. “I have paint magic, and he has transformation! I usually paint out the scene, like this...” here the girl used her magic to create a beach scene on the canvas, “And Adrian will use his transformation magic to do some touch-ups on the models as needed. Your skin is pretty good, although we’ll see what our photographer says about those tattoos of yours.” [break][break] Genesis was tempted to cover her side at the mention of her tattoos, but heck, what was the use in that? It was not like she could hide anything. It’s for the money, she reminded herself. Mel was squealing again, and she turned to see the commotion. It seemed like the male model had gotten into his attire as well, and Genesis lifted an eyebrow. [break][break] “Nice.”
[break][break]

[attr="class","vaileshadowsscroll"] “I could say the same about you.” [break][break] He paused, allowing another chuckle to escape his lips. “I’d hoped I didn’t look that rough around the edges.” He raised an eyebrow, matching her wit. Of course, it was only then that Adrian returned, making more comments on how well they would look together. [break][break] So a shoot with a pair of models then, both amateurs at the practice. It almost seemed as if too coincidental. [break][break] The redhaired stranger was quick to the business side of things. Time was money, Vaile silently agreed. Though, he had to keep an amazingly neutral face when the stated theme for their shoot was to be. [break][break] Well, the beach. [break][break] And there was another comment regarding the physicality of the pair of mages they had brought in. Vaile wasn’t one to enjoy the subjective looks of attractiveness or otherwise that prying eyes sometimes like to spy on him. Regardless, he supposed he should have been flattered even if it still felt awkward. Wait, what was he? Some teenager who was suddenly uncomfortable with the idea? [break][break] He was a full-grown adult! [break][break] “I see.” He commented, a bit too ruefully. And suddenly he was whisked away by Adrian himself off to a changing room presumably… [break][break] And once he was done, the man stepped out in said affair. It was the usual beach shirt, white but the buttons left open, revealing the majority of his chest and bare stomach. Of course, Vaile had a physically fit body, with a decent among of defined muscle, he was lean and muscular and that was likely what both of the stylists had so scene in him. The shorts were… a different affair than what he would have normally picked out himself. There were black with some red decals and lining, but they were bit tight and maybe a bit shorter than what he would have deemed comfortable. And suddenly, it seemed a very fortunate thing that Vaile himself was indeed a physically fit individual. Adrian placed a pair of gaudy looking sunglasses on his head, fussing over his hair a bit more and his bangs so they were not getting too much into his eyes. Vaile felt more akin to a turkey being dressed for dinner than a model preparing for a shoot. [break][break] There were some other accessories, like a shark tooth necklace and sandals with an amazing amount of straps that went up halfway up his calves. Why anyone would where such sandals he had little inkling of why. Honestly, he hardly ever went to the beach himself, despite the summer season and all. [break][break] How odd. He never normally showed this amount of skin either. His complexion was quite pale but left almost entirely unblemished, no inherent imperfections were marked on his body. One could almost say he looked delicate even with his masculine features. [break][break] The squealing that came afterward nearly made him jump out of his skin. It was Mel again, and the girl was fawning over her latest and greatest find. [break][break] “Sir! Have you ever thought about a modeling career?!” [break][break] With a straight smile, Vaile shook his head. “No Miss, I certainly have not.” And with that, he finally was able to catch a glimpse of his female counterpart. [break][break] “Nice.” [break][break] It was all she said as she turned toward him. To which he turned his head slightly away. He couldn’t explain his sudden self-consciousness, he was too accustomed to being in control of his emotions and more specifically his appearance. But thrust into whatever this was, he suddenly had next to nothing to help him out. [break][break] His half-smile teased out the same words she had said to him. [break][break]
[break] “Nice.” [break][break] That singular word had left her lips before she had a chance to process it. Oh well, what was said is said. She may not be the typical bashful girl who gushes over handsome guys, but she knew how to appreciate good looks when her eyes beheld it. However, she was again reminded of the rank difference between them, and her disdain came flowing back. She bit down on her bottom lip. A bit too harshly, as it drew a little blood, which did not go unnoticed. [break][break] “Oh no! Are you okay?” Mel had leapt into view, and a handkerchief appeared out of nowhere. She was frantically dabbing at the miniscule bit of blood on the redhead’s lip. The latter sighed, but allowed the physical contact. A little blood was nothing, but then again, she was supposed to be a model. A freaking model. In her mind, this career path was falling lower and lower on the list. [break][break] Just then, an individual waltzed into the studio room, brightly attired and with a personality to match. She noticed that this new flamboyant character on scene held a bulky instrument in his hands. The cameraman, she assumed. “Hello, hello, you two! It’s so great to find replacements in such short notice! Great work, Adrian and Mel!” The two mentioned assistants had puffed up with pride at the compliment, and rushed over to help him set up the camera. [break][break] “I’m Zeljko, or just call me Zel! I’m Cloversationist’s best photographer! Oooo, nice physique, long legs...good good! How may I address you, young lady?” [break][break] Genesis’ lips had curled at the word ‘replacements.’ It was not like she had a choice, did she? Well, she technically did. “Gen.” The young woman crossed her arms. She felt extremely exposed and transparent in her incredibly revealing outfit, and did not like the way the photographer was appraising her, like she was some sort of cattle for sale. Perhaps she looked like that when she was shopping for new knives? [break][break] “Gen! I rather like your scar and those tattoos on your side. Gives you more of a fierce look, hmm? You’ll have to introduce me to your makeup artist later. And your name, sir?” The redhead was left almost sputtering when the photographer turned to get the male model’s name. So he thought her tattoos and scar were drawn on? She was about to protest when she caught sight of Adrian frantically making motions akin to ‘don’t say anything.’ [break][break] Just think of the yul, Gen. Just think of the yul. She reminded herself. She was completely out of her element here, and she was just itching to be done with the whole affair. She sneaked a look over at the male. He seemed to be much more comfortable at this type of stuff. Just who was he? Was his element really the same as hers? And how does he use his shadows? Those were the type of questions that were running through her mind, but the photographer was directing them now. [break][break] “All right! Let’s have you both step over here…” Zel motioned towards the center of the wall. “...and Adrian! Grab that chair over there, will you? And Mel, can you make those waves a bit more realistic? Yes, yes...” He rubbed his hands together. “This will be my best work yet!”
[break][break]

[attr="class","vaileshadowsscroll"]Of course, he noticed her misgivings about the situation. Perhaps the first time she had shown an inkling of uncertainty. Though he didn’t expect her to start biting her lip till it bled. [break][break] “Hey, relax. Just a few pictures.” He shrugged it off, at once masking his own oddly-placed insecurities. There weren’t many times that Vaile allowed himself to lose his composure, and if he did, it wasn’t very long. His words to relax were perhaps directed half as much to himself as it was to her. [break][break] He was back to a rather neutral expression, finally getting used to this borderline ridiculous request. Adjusting his shirt, he kept reminding himself that despite such revealing attire, it was just regular attire that one would find at the beach. Even if he wasn’t actually at the beach at the moment… [break][break] And then another flamboyant presence graced the scene. Crossing his arms casually, Vaile and the stranger were introduced to the photographer of the session. Zeljko, rather a mouthful of a name, but he gratefully allowed them to use a shortened version of simply ‘Zel.’ [break][break] Soon enough, the young redhaired stranger did give a name for herself. Gen. Short and simple, no surname to be revealed, or wanted to be. Then there was the subject of her tattoos, to which Zel seemed all the more fascinated by. Fierce? Well, that was certainly one word for it. [break][break] “And your name, sir?” [break][break] “Vincent.” The man answered back, the alias all too familiar on his tongue. Short and simple, and as with ‘Gen,’ no family name to be found. [break][break]
“Liar.”
[break] That he already knew, he didn’t need a ghost telling him.
[break][break]He smiled a friendly grin, one that seemed so genuine it could have been fake. Nonetheless, it was time for the shoot to began and thus ‘Vincent’ had to go to work. [break][break] “First a few solo shots, here. Mr. Vincent, please go ahead!” [break][break] Vaile walked up to the area, the scene a picturesque shoreline. With the water moving, it was truly like the scene was coming to life before him. [break][break] “Now I want you to act Natural! You’re taking a walk down the beach, you’re having a great time showing off that rockin’ body you have! And you know it! Now give me smiles, but not too big. Tilt your head a bit downward, hold your hands lower, perfect! Beautiful! Fantastique! Hold it right there! That’s good, laugh at me! Laugh!” [break][break] The barrage of orders and situational one-liners were being thrown at him without rest, he simply had to try his best, though Vaile wondered if he was getting everything as exactly as the photographer stated they wanted. He was getting a good dose of thumbs up by Adrian and Mel, so he assumed he was doing something right. Incidentally, the laughter came from some chuckles that for one reason or another, he couldn’t hold in. The flashes came one after another as he went from a casual side pose to running fingers through his hair. There was even some fake wind to make his open shirt flutter a bit in a pseudo breeze. [break][break] “You’re a natural at this!” Mel shouted out. [break][break] His few minutes went by rather quickly, and once he was done, Adrian was already ushering Gen to the scene. [break][break] “Hey! You’ll do great, all it takes is looking good.” Vaile tilted his head in a half-smirk. “And you’ve already got that part down.”
[break] Gen heard his comment of ‘just a few pictures,’ and was reluctant to admit that he had a point there. No use trying to fight what she herself had submitted to. It’s for the yul was fast becoming her mantra. Heck, if this kept up, she might as well join some sort of organization. Maybe the rogues? On second thought, maybe not, as she still had her standards of morality. Perhaps a Magic Knight squad instead? That seemed more probable, but she did not know which one would best suit her, or which one would want her. Her quiet yet irritable personality might not mesh well with certain people. It certainly did not in this situation. [break][break] But at least, she has not broken or cut through anything yet. Yet. [break][break] The male model had given his name, and she raised an eyebrow at his short answer. Vincent, hmm? Sounded like a noble’s name, and it seemed to fit his physical appearance as well. He was being ushered up to be photographed first, and Gen was relieved. It was a good thing; it gave her time to get a feel of what she would be doing when it was her turn. [break][break] Zel was shouting directions at him, and the redhead paid attention, trying to figure out what the photographer was looking for. At least the latter knew what he was doing, as the poses he made Vincent do all showed his physical assets. It was not until now that she noticed how striking the crimson eyes and shock of silver hair were on the angular face. Against the picturesque background, he really could give those professional male models a run for their money. It also helped that he had a figure that would make women swoon and men covet. Although, he did say earlier to Mel that he was not interested in modeling as a career. Well, she could not blame him. [break][break] All too soon, the solo pictures for the male model were done and it was her turn. She felt stiff as a board, and rolled her shoulders back, trying to loosen up some of the tension in her neck. As she was being ushered up, the young woman cocked her head to catch what Vincent was saying, then immediately wished she did not. [break][break] “Shut up.” She muttered underneath her breath. “At least you get to wear clothes.” Nonetheless, a faint pink had shaded her face at the compliment. She could not help it. She was still susceptible to charms, though only if it were thrown directly at her. [break][break] “Step right here, sweetie! A little more to the right...yes, there, stop! Angle your body towards me a little...now tilt your head back...just a little, not that much! Yes, better!” [break][break] Clicks and flares were going around, and for one who was accustomed to darkness and shadows, the lights were truly blinding. [break][break] “Soften your eyes, honey! You look like you’re ready to kill someone, ha! Pretend like you’re thinking of a past lover!” [break][break] Genesis could not relate, but tried to give what the photographer wanted. She thought back to her adopted mother, and all the warm memories the old woman had given her. Thankfully, it seemed to be what Zel wanted. [break][break] “There we go! Lovely! Now let’s have you lie down on your side and do a few sexy poses!” [break][break] More clicks and more flashes. At least this part was easy; as all she had to do was to look bored. Apparently, it comes off as looking ‘mature’ and ‘seductive.’ Whatever that meant. [break][break] “Now let’s do a few smiles!” [break][break] If smiling came naturally to Vincent, it was the opposite for Genesis. She had almost forgotten what an authentic smile was like, and struggled to do it. [break][break] “Let your mouth open a little bit...relax, relax, my girl! Think happy thoughts!” [break][break] Happy thoughts? Well, she did not have many. However, all the ones she has had were related to either her adoptive mother...or to her knives. That instantly brought up the light to her face, and the edges of her lips naturally curved upwards. [break][break] “There we go! Just a few more...” [break][break] A couple more poses and facial expression changes, and Genesis let out a sigh of relief. She was done. [break][break] Or so she thought. [break][break] Zel threw his arms out wide. “Now, the couple poses!” [break][break] She shot an apprehensive look at her male counterpart. [break][break] Merde.

[attr="class","vaileshadowsscroll"]“Shut up.” [break][break] She truly was just as fierce as her looks suggested she was. Or perhaps, a bundle of nerves came out in a rather crude manner. Hardly something he would be concerned over, but another part of him did find it entertaining. [break][break] Vaile leaned back during his break, shifting his weight to the side, earning some other swoons by Mel and even Adrian… The silver-haired mage returned some casual smiles, but his attention was more focused on his female model counterpart. She seemed to struggle, if that was the word, with the idea of smiling, or posing, or really, whatever Zel happened to be saying to her. Vaile supposed that not everyone was as natural as he was, in truth, he simply knew how to find a mask and wear it well. Smiles and posing was just another one. But it was a good skill to have, being able to wear a different face despite having inclinations otherwise. [break][break] A liar, truly. [break][break] She was still so young. Vaile was hardly old, but compared to her, he felt as if he’d already lived a lifetime or two. Truly, he felt that way about most people he met. He had enough memories, some he didn’t even want, to fill several over. At least, the stress didn’t show itself on his dear pretty face. What a tragedy that would have been because then he wouldn’t have had such an impromptu modeling career. [break][break] Of course, then, it was time for their paired photos. [break][break] Vaile held up his hands, mocking surrender. “I promise I don’t bite.” He winked as he made his way next to her as Gen was already at the scene. [break][break] “Mind if I scoot in?” He already was, his presence blissfully free of anything like awkwardness or gauche manner. It had taken him a moment, but he’d been able to get rid of his initial shyness about walking around half to three-quarters naked. (As noted earlier, the shorts were a bit shorter than what he would have picked for himself.) He put a finger to his mouth, making the universal sign of ‘keep it a secret.’ There was something a bit silly about the whole situation, and thus he simply had to play along with it. [break][break] He stood next to her, his stature of six feet noticeably taller than her own five and a half or so. Zel kept shouting things in regards to smiles and how good they looked together. [break][break] It was then that Vaile angled his shoulders slightly, reaching to the collar of his shirt, and then, said shirt was able to fall easily off his shoulder, exposing a bit of his back and more of his upper half. [break][break] Even if they were rather close and about to sharing a lot of skin, Vaile managed to keep a good space between the two. Movements matched like shadows on a figure, as they got close, they never quite touched. And if they did, it was a simple brush of the shoulder or other limb, always with a swift correction, done so gracefully it almost seemed to be done on purpose. He still had to respect his fellow partner in crime, after all. [break][break] “So Miss Gen.” Words were said behind a smile. “Curiosity asks what you’ll be spending some good money on for suffering through this photogenic hell.” [break][break] He flashed a pair of crimson eyes to her for only a moment. It went back to her initial impressions, obviously not of nobility, not with such a rough attitude, scars, and well, even tattoos. Her given name of Gen was said without the pride of a noble surname. She was truly doing this for the money. She was unknown whose shadows followed her closely. [break][break] It did spark his curiosity.
[break] Unfortunately for her, the photoshoot was not over yet. Fortunately for her, her male partner did not seem to mind her presence...too much. But then again, it was difficult to tell. Though Gen was fairly adept at suppressing and hiding her emotions, it did not mean that she could act as an entirely different character. At least she could walk away knowing that modelling was not the ideal job for her, even if she did have the body and looks for it. [break][break] She raised an eyebrow at his comment about not biting. On others, it might have been a comforting word. Arousing, even. But to her, it fell in the category of sarcasm.Well, that was fine. Sarcasm was something she could play with, fire for fire. “Wow, lucky me.” She said underneath her breath, quiet enough so that the assistants and photographer could not hear, but still loud enough for her companion to hear if he happened to be listening. [break][break] Zel was now motioning them to stand closer together, and it took Gen a few seconds to relax herself. The closest she has ever been to a guy was...when was the last time she had gotten close to any human being? It has been too long, she has ceased to keep track. It would be safe to say that it had been a hot minute. As the photographer directed them in a series of poses, the redhead got the chance to stand very close to her companion. He was strikingly tall, but it was not the height that intimidated her. She had attempted to read his mana signature and the amount of power he has, though she could not gain any insights on the latter. Nonetheless, she would guess that he was far, far above her in terms of sheer magical power. [break][break] There was one thing she had to confirm, though. “So you’re also a shadow mage?” Her curiosity would not be sated until she asked. Her own shadows had been dancing around freely, and the female had to get a grip on them, lest they started interfering with the picture’s lighting. For one who did not pursue modeling, the male certainly had a knack for it. He at least seemed comfortable in his own skin. She was not sure if the heat she felt was from her own body or from the other model’s body. Needless to say, she always pulled back between poses, putting a safe distance between them whenever possible. [break][break] On one such pose, she was supposed to be looking up and smiling up at the man. His shirt was half on him, and she would be staring at a lot of skin. The best way to deal with an uncomfortable situation? Half-veiled insults. She turned her head up to face him, her tone mockingly sweet. “Are you a noble?” Blinding flashes and camera clicks. “Because I hate them.” This time, a true grin flashed across her face as she watched his expression. Whatever his reaction was, she was sure to be amused. It was not completely true that she hated the upper class—she only hated those who use their high status as a reason to be lazy. Laziness was the one vice she had no patience for. [break][break] He was asking her something now. “Blades, of course.” She answered promptly, not bothering to hide the pleased gleam in her eyes. “And you? You don’t look like the type who needs money.” She was intrigued by what his answer would be. After all, he could be rolling in gold for all she knew. What made him stay and suffer through these flashing lights and paparazzi? [break][break] Heck, was he actually some famous person she should know?

[attr="class","vaileshadowsscroll"]“Shut up.” [break][break] “Wow, lucky me.” [break][break] “Indeed.” Vaile smiled back, his words also quiet, said under his breath. He admittedly was perhaps having a bit too much fun with the idea of messing around, after all, when would he ever do something as ridiculous as this again? Probably never. Actually, definitely never. He’d hate to think of what his father would have said if he pictures of his son half-naked on display on every other shop window. [break][break] Thankfully, the elder shadow mage didn’t live in the cities anymore. [break][break] Quite honestly, Vaile didn’t mind the closeness of proximity between the two. He was comfortable enough in his own skin, once he well, got used to putting it on display. It wasn’t that different from unsaid nights spent in stranger’s beds when one got too drunk, except this time he was entirely sober. [break][break] It was because of their closeness to each other that whispered words could be a sort of conversation. How odd to be having one now, Vaile would have never guessed he would be clandestinely interviewed under the flashing lights of a paparazzi one day. [break][break] “So you’re also a shadow mage?” [break][break] “Popular magic these days, hm?” He countered her question with another, moving his body in time for another pose in which he had his back slightly to her. He allowed the presence of his mana to be felt, if only for a moment. Cold, dark, and rather foreboding, a grim presence that seemed to suddenly counter his teasings and his easy smiles. He sealed it away in the next. [break][break] Her next question came with a rather perfect kind of look. Words of vice were said with a mockingly sweet smile. Hate. Such a strong word for someone to use over an entire class of other people. He kept himself calm, lowering his head down almost too close to her lips. But then, he pulled to the side, whispering slightly into her ear. [break][break]
“You’ll only half hate me then. I’m only half noble.” Words tickled the skin, his amusement seemed far too genuine to be faked. “Sorry to disappoint.” He winked, crimson red eyes catching another glimpse of a flashing camera. Said pose had been all the rage among their small audience, who swooned over how the pair appeared to have such chemistry with each other. [break][break] Weapons? Ah, the scars and tattoos meant as much as a warrior or a mercenary, maybe something fierce as their photographer has said. [break][break] “No I don’t.” He answered freely, finally peeling off the rest of his shirt so he could toss his over his shoulder. “I just like helping people out when I can.”
[break] “Popular? You’re the first I’ve met with the same element as mine.” She was intrigued, nonetheless. Besides this male model, were there other mages out there with a similar magic as hers? How do they use their shadows? Suddenly, it seemed like there was still much for the young woman to learn, much for her to experiment and expand on her magic. [break][break] During the brief moment that the other shadow mage let his mana be felt, Genesis got a taste of its coldness and darkness. The slightest hint of a smile played about her ruby lips, to the delight of those noisy onlookers and the flamboyant photographer. However, she was currently blocking their existences out, and had focused only on the quick exposure of his true self. Instead of the menacing presence turning her away, she found herself rather drawn to it. Perhaps they were not so much different. They thrived within their own cold and lonesome selves, and their shadows were only a reflection of it. At least, that was the impression she received. [break][break] However, that quick second had passed all too quickly, and her posing partner had slipped back into the former easy-going personality. Even as she had made the brash insult to the noble class, he had not seemed ruffled by it. In fact, he seemed almost amused, at least in her perspective. For those who could handle her sarcasm and half-veiled insults, it was a notable feat indeed. She was not without her vices, her sharp tongue being one of them. Thus, she had been more than pleased when he responded in kind, effectively reflecting her biting comments back at her. [break][break] She could get along with this guy. [break][break] “Pity.” She let out a dramatic sigh. “I was looking forward to that.” [break][break] That Mel. She was near hysterics at her companion’s action of ridding his shirt entirely, and her eyes looked like they were about to pop out. The redhead was half-tempted to hurl a knife at her to get that noisy girl to shut up, but something told her that it would not end well if she did. Besides, they needed the background beach scene, so getting rid of the paint mage was out of the question. [break][break] Ah, so he was not in it for the money. But for helping people out? Genesis had to raise a disbelieving eyebrow at that. “Never would have guessed.” She muttered underneath her breath. Whether he was telling the truth or not was another matter, as she could not tell anyways. But the fact that he even responded that way showed that he is either a genuinely kind-hearted person who is often misunderstood, or is extremely adept at disillusioning others with his charming facade. [break][break] She opted to believe in the latter. After all, shadow mages rarely come out as all clean and innocent, and she was no exception. Took one to know one. They all had their own secrets, their own demons, and their own twisted pasts. She would not have expected anything differently. [break][break] “Hmm, so what are your plans then?” Another pose, more clicks and flashes. “Kill everyone with kindness until you’re the only one left? Take the throne and rule Clover Kingdom? Or just drift around until our shadows kill us one day?” The red-haired femme honestly had no idea what was going through the other’s mind, and was only trying to figure out this complex puzzle in front of her.

[attr="class","vaileshadowsscroll"]“Popular? You’re the first I’ve met with the same element as mine.” [break][break]
An outsider by all accounts. Vaile’s ever-present smile remained, he nodded his head to her, as well as striking another intimate pose. [break][break]
“With a family like mine, it gets old rather quickly.” Whispered words reached only her ears. She must have suspected as much anyway, a noble he was, if half meant anything. But of course, that very noble half dominated most of his life. “It gets tiring, living in the shadows.” And while words could have been interpreted as somewhat melancholic, there was no hint of such emotion in Vaile’s voice. [break][break]
“You could have stopped, if you wanted.”
[break]
But ghosts always said things too late and held on regrets that stayed after death. ‘Family’ certainly meant something the silver-haired shadow mage, but it wasn’t wholly good. Even after his world Shattered, he still lived in the past. Crimson eyes betrayed nothing, sparkling only with varied amusement. [break][break]
This wasn’t about him. Not quite. His chuckles returned as she countered with more wit. Perhaps he should have been more sorry, though it looked like such playful hate still existed somewhere. “Sorry to disappoint.” He commented back. There was a joke somewhere, about letting a girl down when she was expecting something. But, it was still fun anyway. What was life without a few surprises? [break][break]
And speaking of such, she still seemed skeptical of his honest-to-goodness policy of helping people in need when they so needed his help. In this case, that of a ‘remarkably handsome’ individual. Who else fit the bill? Though, they could have picked any other pretty looking noble from off the street. Clover was quite honestly filled with them. And it was even home to some pretty-looking commoners as well.[break][break]
“Hmm, so what are your plans then?” [break][break]
Did he have plans? He playfully shrugged, incorporating his body movements into another striking pose. She offered several bombastic situations, but Vaile simply shook his head to them all. [break][break]
“Tried the dying thing once, didn’t exactly work out.” He said, his voice just mysterious as he meant it to be. “My face is pretty, though never fit for the throne. And if you really think I’m kind, that’s good. I put up a good act, don’t I?” [break][break]
Kindness. Once upon a time, he knew what that meant. [break][break]
Or maybe, he’d never known at all. [break][break]
“Yes! Oh yes! I think that’s good darlings!” Zel’s voice sounded from behind his device. “We can call that a wrap!” Cheers applauded from their small audience and their painted scenery erupted into a spring of confetti. Vaile held up his hands in celebration as well. [break][break]
“Thank you, the both of you!” Mel shouted, reaching to give both of their impromptu models great big handshakes of thanks that were enough to jerk one’s whole body. “We never could have made the summer line if not for the both of you!” [break][break]
From beside her, Adrian gave a thumbs up. “We’ll get you your yul in full! And how about it, why don’t the pair of you keep those outfits? No one else in this kingdom can pull them off as well as you!” [break][break]
Vaile nodded, slowly, though the look of resigned shock on his face didn’t quite leave. He supposed such shorts did look flattering on him if that was the word he wanted to use. Nonetheless, he would be happy enough to get changed back into his normal and fully-clothed attire. [break][break]
And in the next few moments, he would do exactly that. He pulled his gloves back on, the black leather familiar to his skin. Yes, he was glad to be back into his regular clothes, even if for a moment, he was starting to enjoy showing off a little more than he intended. [break][break]
He would take the time to meet with ‘Gen’ once more before they parted ways fully. [break][break]
Holding out his share of yul, he offered it to her. “It is as you think, Lady Gen. I do not need money.” He wouldn’t take no for an answer, and in fact, he would have simply dropped it if she said no and then the yul would have gone to waste. [break][break]
He paused again, a lopsided grin graced his face. [break][break]
“My name’s not Vincent by the way. I wasn’t intending to fool you, but I have a reputation I’d like to keep and I’d rather not have my name and face be known to everyone. Especially if they see it in a magazine...” He shrugged, as if this was a casual thing he often revealed to others. It was already so late in the day, and the shadows grew blanketing from on a red-orange sky. [break][break]
“There’s a good inn down by the marketplace if you’re searching for somewhere to stay the night.” He added, knowing that she likely would need lodging in the city. As to where he would go, she would only have to guess. [break][break] “I wish you the best of luck, Lady Gen.” From a stranger to another, it was best to keep things that way. Getting attached and making friends led no one anywhere. He wasn’t the kind person that people wanted to make friends with. He had decided that for himself. Even if she was a mage of shadows, such familiarity could only last for so long.
