It was a cold morning, Rivi woke up seeing her breath. She needed to get the heater fixed in her humble little home, though most people would not even consider it that much just by looking at it. It was barely a step up from living out on the streets and even then, sometimes she would have preferred to do the former. Even though she was complaining mentally about her living situation her body was following the normal routine she had engrained into herself at a young age, she checked the locks, windows, door every possible entry and exit to make sure there had not been any tampering while she was sleeping. While she certainly didn’t have much of anything worth stealing it wouldn’t stop someone from breaking in and making sure, that was the way of life around here. You fought to survive, and you didn’t trust anyone unless you had the strength to deal with them. It had been quite some time since she had last gave that privilege to someone and that person had taken off on some “training” expedition. That was how she got her “noble” last name of Tiberius, that was years ago though and she was still working on trying to make it to the point of where she stood on top of the criminal underworld or had enough strength to be a major player.

Finishing up her daily tasks around the shoddy home she got ready for whatever new task she would be sent on for the day. She was no better than a common merc with how she lived but it was something she was good at. At least she could use Golems to help back her up in any dire situation, the access to such a useful magic had been what allowed her to live so long and take on more difficult jobs on her own. Rivi made her way to the local tavern after locking up her place, the tavern had its typical customers, the drunks, degenerates, wanderers and vagabonds. She approached the bar and nodded to the barkeep behind the counter, she had been doing various tasks for this place for quite sometime and had a reputation that allowed her to do pretty much whatever she wanted to whoever she wanted in this establishment. Well to a certain extent that is, no reason to be to reckless in the place she got her jobs from. The keep approached Rivi after finishing up with another customer, “Well don’t you look like a ray of sunshine.” The keep said while cleaning out a old cup before filling it with some shoddy ale and placing it in front of Rivi. “And you look like shit that I threw up last night after drinking this here pisswater.” Rivi retorted as naturally as someone talking to a family member.

“Now, now you knew the type of drink we have here and still chose to take part in it.” The keep said with a huff, he knew the quality of his drink wasn’t the best but here in this area it was the best he was going to get without paying way above the standard price. “Now if you are done insulting the good graces given to you I got a task for you to do.” The keep said as he eyed the customers, he knew none of them would flap their gums to anyone but he didn’t get this far in life without being cautious anyways. Rivi gulped down a large portion of her drink and with a grimace looked at the keep, “I’m sure I could go on but I don’t want to cause you to have a stroke in your age.” The keep rolled his eyes at the young woman, “Davidson out on the edge of town, the farmer.” Rivi nodded, he was a regular enough customer of the tavern she knew enough of the man. He tended to borrow more then he should and that gave her an idea of what the task was going to be about. “Well he is late and someone needs to check up on him and make sure he gets the help he needs to be on time.” The keep said to Rivi shaking his head. Rivi smiled and finished off her drink, “Well we are all friends here it would be cruddy of me to not make sure our friend didn’t get the help he needs.” With that acceptance of the task she got up from her stool and made her way towards Davidson’s home.

After some much needed walking but greatly disliked exercise Rivi arrived at Davidson’s farm, it was a basic cattle farm and the cows out in the field looked at her with their weirdly deadpan eyes. Cows always seemed to be staring into your soul whenever you came by like they just knew how shit you were and pitied you. Rivi promptly flipped the majestic bird at the herd and went to the front door and loudly knocked on the door, she could hear someone moving around in there and just like she figured she could hear someone cursing coming from one of the side windows. “Davidson come on now don’t make me chase you, you know how much I dislike having to work harder then I need too.” Rivi called out to the farmer as she rounded the corner catching sight of the man as he picked himself off the ground and had that look of a child being caught with their hand in the cookie jar. “Come on Rivi anyway you could just let me get away?” Davidson said as he said at the blonde haired mage, he already knew the answer before she said it but he hoped that luck would be on his side. “Come now Davidson, you know I can’t do that. My rep would take a plunge if I couldn’t catch your scrawny ass.” Rivi replied shrugging her shoulders, “Now are you gonna run or we going to do this civil?” She said as she counted down the seconds before the farmer would make his escape.

“I’m sorry Rivi, you know how this is gonna go.” Davidson said as he was already turning his back on the mage and sprinting for the nearby woods. Rivi didn’t hold it against the man, he had a reputation of being a quick runner and flighty as hell when it came to danger. It just annoyed her that she was gonna have to chase him down. “Remember Davidson you chose this.” Rivi yelled at the farmers back as her grimoire opened up and her spell activated. A blood mixed with shadow golem slowly formed from the ground, it stood at a height of 6 meters and was shaped like one of the gargoyle statues would you typically see on some churches. She pointed at the fleeing man’s back and issued a simple command, “Fetch.” The Golem took off quickly easily outpacing the man and tackled him to the ground, it slowly dragged the struggling man back to its master and plopped him down in front of her. “Now Davidson, we have finished with the annoying part of this interaction. We will now be moving on to the part where I get the money that is owed and tell ya to stop being such an idiot when it comes to borrowing money.” Rivi said as she lit up a cigarette. “But I don’t got it Rivi or I would have paid it back already.” Davidson tried to explain. “Shh, shh now don’t be tainting my ears with that drabble Davidson. I see your herd is doing well this year and I know you just sold off quite a few bulls.” Rivi said as she took a long drag, “Why do you think you were able to get away with taking so long?” Smiling Rivi looked at the farmer and the farmer hung his head in defeat. “Alright, fine. I’ll show ya where it is.” With Rivi and the golem in tow Davidson led them to where he hid his most valuable stuff, giving the owed money to Rivi. “There now we are all done here right?” Davidson said with a sigh. “Yeah Davidson we are all good here, try not to let it happen again ok? Next time they might send someone that won’t be as kind as I was.” Rivi said with a wave as she had the golem carry the money back to the tavern.

They entered the tavern and dropped the money off to the keep, “Alright old man, Davidson got the help he needed and he should be all squared away.” Rivi said to the old man and once he was done counting the amount to make sure it was all that was owed he nodded to the young woman. “Glad to see you can at least do your jobs right.” He said with a hint of sarcasm. “Yeah well you know me, got to do something besides drinking your piss poor ale. Anyways you know where to deposit the money, see ya.” Rivi said as she dismissed her golem and made her way home.

I see why you were a bit proud of this post. Even at the hour I read this (almost 1 AM), it was smooth. Everything flowed nicely and it was a fun little read. I enjoyed this!

Approved. 892 yul rewarded due to rogue and all that! Also an additional 4 Infamy. +3 for extortion/blackmail and +1 for Simple Assault. In this case, using the golem (one that is twice as big as the average adult male) to tackle the man is bound to cause some, albeit minor injuries. Nothing major but enough to count.
