To activate this attack spell, Suna will strike up a quick series of notes, loud and sharp like the patter of winter hail. Her pure aura will morph into white flint-like arrowheads (2in by 3in) that hangs above the enemy, and her sound will make those arrowheads fall down in an circular area of 10 meters. The density of falling arrowheads will depend on her ability to play in polyphony, a musical texture consisting of two or more simultaneous lines of independent melodies, as opposed to just one dominant melodic voice.
To sustain the barrage, Suna must keep her tempo above vivace (lively and brisk tempo, 156–176 bpm) and play a series of tremolos, which is repeating a specific note or notes as rapidly as possible to produce a quivering effect. Apex Predator gives this spell an additional +3 power stack-able buff caps after 5 attacks or +15 to the enemy. At Suna's current junior level, it cannot be sustained for more than three motifs (three posts, not including the post when the spell is cast); then the piece must be started again from the beginning and the spell must be recast.
This spell is not limited to which instrument she uses, it is only a musical form type.
[Optional] Summoning An Instrument: If Suna does not already have an instrument on hand, she may summon her guzheng by humming a G (392hz). Her guzheng is 64"x12.6" / 162x32cm.
For this attack spell, Suna shapes her aura into spears (ammo) that float stationary next to her until she plays sudden, accented notes, which will then launch themselves out in a cone-shaped area all at once. Each spear is 60in / 152cm in length and 2in / 5cm in width, with the tip being slightly wider 3in / 7.6cm. The maximum number of spears Suna can use is 1 + (Control/5). Apex Predator gives this spell an additional +3 power stack-able buff caps after 5 attacks or +15 to the enemy. This spell does not sustain, as it launches all its spears out at the same time. The more spears she has, the wider the cone.
This attack spell is not limited to which instrument she uses to launch the spears, as the technique is the same.
[Optional] Summoning An Instrument: If Suna does not already have an instrument on hand, she may summon her harp by humming a C (262hz). Her harp is 33"x19"x6" / 83x48x15cm.
To activate this restraining spell, Suna plucks out the melody on her right hand while tampering the full sound by lightly muffling the strings with her left hand, indicating its restraining effects. As the music flows from the instrument, the sound takes the form of a small flowing stream that is 1 meter in width. It snakes towards the enemy and spreads in a circle (1 meter in diameter) beneath each target's feet. When in contact with its target(s), the aura spreads upwards to bind movements and to slow down their speed by -2m/s. This will only affect the first [1 + (Control/5)] targets in contact, one additional target will have their speed debuffed by -1m/s, and any other targets will not be affected.
This binding restraint is an AoE effect. The spell only physically affects the enemy, and cannot restrain any spoken or verbal spell castings of retaliation. Vampiric Magic's mana drain will only be applied to the two targets of Suna's choosing. To sustain the bind, Suna must keep playing in ritenuto, the tempo gradually becoming slower and slower. The slower and calmer her music is, the more effective the bind. Any distractions to her state of mind will affect success of sustaining the spell. The restraints have the health of junior rank spells - if dealt damage that are equal or above the spell's rank, the restraints will dissolve and be dispelled.
This restraining spell is not limited to which instrument she uses, as the technique is the same.
[Optional] Summoning An Instrument: If Suna does not already have an instrument on hand, she may summon her harp by humming a C (262hz). Her harp is 33"x19"x6" / 83x48x15cm.
Tightly Bound: Restraining based spells may now deal damage without the need of an offensive spec. The damage they are capable of dealing is the rank of their spell minus one.
Vampiric Magic: Once per post, a single spell (cast by the wielder of this perk) that comes into contact with magical targets may siphon mana from up to 2 of those in contact with the spell. If more than 2 targets are in contact, then who is siphoned is up to the caster. These can be NPCs and magical creatures as well as players, regardless of if they have a mana pool or not, however, it will not work on your own creations/golems. You will sap a total of 5 mana [+5 mana per target's rank above junior] from each of the 2 targets, and restore your own mana for an equal amount. At grand rank, this may be used twice, by casting two different spells. This perk does not have to be included in the spell itself to be utilized.
While on a mission a few days ago, Suna had met with a youth who had a broom. A flying broom, no less. She was a witch, and she did not even have her own flying broom?
Shameful. Utterly shameful.
Hence why the blue-haired elf was now standing in front of a famous broom maker’s home. Her companion had said he got his broom here, and for the sake of all witches’ and their reputations, she had to acquire a broom for herself. She simply must.
She knocked on the door. Nothing. She knocked harder. Still nothing. She rounded around the house, listening carefully. Her elvish ears perked up when she heard something. It was a harsh, scratchy sound. From what she can guess, it sounded like someone was sanding something. She waited until the sound stopped, then knocked again.
"Eh? Who’s there?" A gruff voice called from inside.
"Uh, hello, sir!" Suna called out, using a little of her sound magic to help her voice carry through the seemingly thick door. "I’m Suna, and I was wondering if you need any help—"
"—finding some blessed magical wood so I can make more brooms, aye?" The door swung open. Suna almost stepped back at the sight of the old broom maker, but stopped herself just in time, controlling her features to something more neutral. The little dwarf was one of the shortest person she had ever seen, standing barely above her waist...and she was a short elf.
"An’ here’s another one." The tone was gruff, but the eyes were kind. "My brooms are in the rage recently," he chuckled out loud, which she had not expected. "I should start charging fer them, I should. I could get a pretty penny now, from all those straplings that are coming fer my creations!"
"I’m sure you could, sir." She had recovered from her surprise and now smiled at the old man. "I met someone recently who had such an expertly crafted broom, I thought that I must get a hold of one with such beautiful craftsmanship." She certainly had a way with words, and now she used a little bit of her sound magic to soften her tone. "He mentioned that he went on a little mission to fetch some special wood for you in exchange for the broom. I was wondering if you still needed more of that special wood?"
"Hmm…" He pulled on his long white beard thoughtfully. "Perhaps I do need some of that magical wood," his eyes twinkled in merriment, "and maybe I don’t!" He seemed to be enjoying himself, teasing her.
I can play this game, too. Suna thought, and her lips pouted like a little child denied candy. "Please, good sir," she coaxed, lacing her words with the tiniest bit more of her sound element. "My reputation is at stake here!" Her hands were held out in desperation, for that was the truth. For the sake of her own dignity. For the sake of her people.
"Your reputation?" He guffawed. "You ain’t no witch, eh?" Then his eyes widened as he stared at Suna’s serious and pleading expression. "Why, lassie, ye is a witch!" He stepped out of the house and circled around her, studying her up and down like she was some sort of oddity. "‘Twixt twelve years since I last made a broom fer a witch!" He nodded to himself, and seemed to have finished his study of her. "Aye, I can make ye one!"
"So...you will make me one?" The old wizened man seemed to have no end in surprises. She thought it was going to be harder, but it seemed like Lady Luck was on her side today.
"Are yer ears worse than mine? Now shoo, shoo!" The old man waved her off, then rubbed his hands together. He looked like some composer who was just struck by a generous dose of muse and could not wait to get started on a new composition. "A proper broom fer a proper witch, aye! Go get that wood and I’ll make ye one that’ll make the Witch Queen jealous, I will! And here, you’ll need this!" He threw her a hatchet, which the elf caught. "Now, be off, lassie! Four pieces, mind ye!"
"Thank you, sir!" Suna had no intentions of catching the attention of the Witch Queen, but she would appreciate a well-made item. The elf walked—nay, skipped—towards the woods. It was a good thing the old broom maker lived on the outskirts of Kikka; his house was close to the forest, and the elf wasted no time in getting there. Her friend had mentioned something about going into the deepest and darkest part in find the magical wood.
"He better not have lied to me," she muttered. She would get more annoyed at the wasted time than at her current situation. It truly was dark, almost suffocating. Was it her imagination that she heard some sort of strange music up ahead? She picked up her pace, following with her astute ears rather than her eyes. As the music got louder, she made out some sort of light ahead.
She swiftly made her way closer and closer to the light, until she stepped into a clearing. The music had reached a harmonious chord before it stopped. Suna had to thank her music for leading her here, for right in front of her was a clearing of trees. One could look at them and know they were not normal trees. They glowed with an inner light.
"Beautiful," she breathed. She walked over and started studying each one closely. This was going to be her future broom, after all! She had to pick one that called to her. And one certainly did, a beautiful slender tree with a smooth and supple shape. Her aura responded in kind, and without a pause, she started chopping away at the chosen one.
About an hour later, a sweaty elf looked down at her feet, down at her hard work. "That should do it!" She wiped away her sweat, then bundled them up with a little bit of her melody line, making it tight and secure so she would not drop them on the way back.
Thankfully, her journey back was uneventful. It seemed like her feet had wings, so eager she was for her reward. Before she knew, she was sitting on the old man’s porch, sipping iced tea and listening to the dwarf work his magic on the wood. A few hours later, she was the proud owner of her very own broom. Actually, she was not sure who was more proud, the broom maker of his creation or the witch of finally owning a broom.
"Thar ye go!" He folded his arms, looking at Suna and his broom like some proud parent. "Take good care of it, hear? Come back anytime, lassie!"
"I will, thank you!" Suna gave a quick bow to the dwarf. He really was a kind soul, and she will definitely make some time to come and visit him in the near future. But for now, she skipped off to a nearby clearing she noticed earlier on her way here. She could not wait to try flying on her new broom! Little did she know how hard it would be...
