Augustus was not one to take missions off handedly. In fact, he was not one to actually take any missions at all. The luxury of the Ravencrest family, a part of the Upper Nobility who were based within the walls of the Royal Capital had spoiled him. He need not work for yul, nor did he need to make ends meet. Their family’s business was thriving, and their estate was still passively making income through their numerous business connections. Truly, there was no need for Augustus to even be doing anything else besides his usual Court visits, as well as trying to outmaneuver the Silva family in their dealings within the Royal Court. But, he supposed that he got bored.[break][break]
Even nobles of the highest order get bored sometimes.[break][break]
Augustus shook his head. The problem with his life was that it was too perfect. Too stale. Too boring. His courtly life was marred with debates and other rhetorical arguments that he found himself almost always winning. Days running around with the young ladies in the court had been great, but had also lost its value in Augustus’ life. His next step was either to join the Magic Knights, or to join the Church of Clover. Both were a good choice, and both would give his life a new vigour that was recently lost. But, only one of them would be a good choice. The problem was that making a decision was not easy. His sister held quite a foothold in the Magic Knights, having risen as the Vice Captain of the Crimson Lions. That was her arena, and no matter how much he felt that he could flourish in such a place as the Magic Knights, he knew better to try and step foot into her domain. She had been raised to the perfect Magic Knight, and it showed with her combat skills which were quite legendary, most especially since she was known as the fastest mage in the Clover Kingdom. [break][break]
No, he needed to do something different.[break][break]
He supposed it was why he decided to start taking some missions around the Clover Kingdom. And the reason why he chose to join the Church of Clover.[break][break]
“Deacon of the Royal Capital.” Augustus would whisper to himself, “How quaint.” He shook his head then. Joining had been hard, having to try and convince the Priestess Sierra that he was doing so in good faith was even more. While Augustus might have been known as pious, he was not known to keep away from the vices. Less on the gambling, but quite a bit on women and on alcohol. It was a byproduct of the job, after all. The Royal Court was filled with both, and Augustus, as a healthy young man, could never resist his budding hormones. But he digressed. He was a better person now than he was a few years ago when he first joined the Royal Court. It had been awhile since he indulged himself of the vices, and had only had a handful of trysts recently. The last one was with the Vermillion lady, feisty, but sensual none the less. It had almost broke the Priestess Sierra’s resolve to take him in when she had seen her coming out of the Ravencrest Estate, but he had been saved by his conviction for the most part.[break][break]
“Serving the people, no matter where I go. I suppose I can do that.” Augustus would nod, as he leaned on the gate where the mission had told him to wait. [break][break]
It was simple enough. From what he was told, a merchant needed some protection while he transported some of his goods to the small town that was a few hours away from Sosshi. The Forsaken Region was not a place Augustus frequented, but he had been here before. He knew the dangers that lurk beneath the canopy of the forests, and the ill intent of the people who had turned to the life of crime. The Church of Clover was always listening, and had always seen the hardships that the people in the Forsaken Region had been facing. But it did not excuse them from their blatant disregard of the law. [break][break]
Augustus turned now towards oncoming footsteps. It could either be the partner he was told he would be working with, or the merchant himself. Putting a hand lazily over the satchel that held his grimoire, he turned towards the sound with his trademark smile, and a friendly wave. While he was not a Magic Knight, the symbol of the Church of Clover, the Sigil, was clearly hanging from his neck.[break][break]
Hans found himself sitting in the back of a horse driven wagon, piloted by someone else. The man was taking a little nap with his hand on top of the other on his lap, laying the side of his head against the wall. He was off on yet another job, a common occurrence for someone like Hans. Being a mercenary for hire, Hans found himself on a lot of different missions so long as the price was right. Whether it was good or bad, it did not matter to him. After the loss of his mother then his guardian, Hans had to fend for himself. He never had the luxury of growing up in a loving home nor was able to get whatever he pleased. Part of his childhood was spent in the Diamond Kingdom, living under an abusive father who wanted to mold his only child into a powerful soldier.
Speaking of his father, Hans found himself having another bad dream of his old man, beating him mercilessly. It was as if he were a child again. He went from whipping the boy to using his fists, and then after a few seconds, the man turned towards Hans' mother and the moment he raised his fist, Hans woke up from his brief nightmare with a little gasp, lifting his head up with eyes widened slightly. "Something the matter?" the wagon driver said after hearing the man's gasp. Hans just looked at the driver briefly before turning his head towards the window, watching the people and buildings they rode by. The driver simply shrugged and continued. Almost every time Hans went to sleep, he'd have these dreams of either his wicked father or of the day he lost his mother during that big battle at Aries Garse all those years ago, and to the very kingdom he was born at.
"Stop." Hans said, causing the driver to raise an eyebrow. "You sure? We haven't exactly gotten to your destination yet." the man said, not looking back at the sword wielder once. "I'm aware." Hans plainly said as he continued to look out the window. The driver shrugged once again before stopping. "If that's what you want." The wagon stopped, and Hans jumped out. He walked over to the driver's seat and handed him some yul before walking off.
After a bit of walking, Hans finally came across the gate where he was to meet the tomato merchant he got this job from. As he got closer, Hans took quick notice of the man waving at him. He didn't appear to be said merchant, but then that's when the guy remembered that he wasn't doing this job alone. Although it rarely happens, Hans isn't a stranger to partnering up with folks during jobs since not all of them could be done alone. Once Hans was close enough, he'd take notice of the other guy's necklace. It had the sigil that belongs to the Church of Clover. Other than magic knights, these guys also served the kingdom, following a more religious path. Hans also noticed how well-kept this guy was, most likely a noble the male commoner thought. These didn't really matter to Hans, but it was better to focus on something other then having his mind run wild over the past. "I take it they haven't arrived yet?" Hans asked the man, referring to the merchant. Hans stopped with his hand idly on the hilt of his sword which was in its sheathe strapped to the side of his waist, while his grimoire was in its strap located on the other side. Hans would then hear the sound of horse galloping with the sound of a wagon being drawn. Turning his head, the guy noticed someone one driving on a wagon that was approaching the two with....a mountain of tomatoes safely strapped inside. The merchant looked a bit paranoid, but also relieved to see the two mages.

Augustus would spot the man that was meant to be his partner. In truth, he was still unsure about this mission. It had only been recently that he had joined the Church of Clover, though he had brought it upon himself to be as active as possible. Part of his duties for the Priestess Sierra had been to deliver some documents to the priest that had been situated here in Sosshi. It was simple enough, and he had been able to deliver it within a day by using one of his golems as a transportation of sorts. Sitting on the bat’s head had been fairly common for Augustus had he went through all of these courier type errands that the Priestess Sierra keeps sending him on, though he had not complained once just yet. He had hoped that he would be able to actually start learning the duties of a Priest or Priestess within their own church, but from what the Priestess Sierra had been saying, he would be learning that at a later date. For now, he was to be her glorified errand boy, no matter how much of a hassle it was for Augustus to keep travelling.[break][break]
“No, no the merchant has not arrived yet.” he would answer the man’s question. Young. Not the noble type. Seemed like he was prepared for battle. Augustus already was intrigued by the partner that was assigned to him. Combat was something he was still starting to get used to, so he was still mostly unsure of his skills. Yet, it was something that he had personally wanted to learn more of. It was one of the reasons why he had accepted this mission after all. In truth, this would be possibly his second mission that might involve some combat, the first being the Royal Capital one where he had had to scare away a bear with one of the Green Mantis mages. He was unsure whether going into the dungeon with the two Blue Roses counted, just because he was sure that the Vice Captain of the Blue Roses and one of her companions had been the reason he had not died throughout the encounter. [break][break]
“Name’s Augustus by the way, Augustus Ravencrest,” Augustus held out a hand for the man to shake. He supposed it was only polite, after all. He was unsure whether the young man would reciprocate, though no matter what, he would try to be as cordial as possible. After all, this was a mission, and from what he understood, there were going to be bandits that might attack them. It was better to have a team mate that was on your side, than one that might just stab you in the back.[break][break]
As luck would have it, the merchant was heard cobbling down the street. From what Augustus would gather, the man’s cart was quite full of the product that was described within the mission parameters. Tomatoes.[break][break]
“Good afternoon, sir.” Augustus would wave towards the man who seemed to be nervous as hell. His eyes were beady, and shifted from Augustus to the young man he had been assigned to do the mission with. There was an unspoken word that the man seemed to withhold. Maybe it was due to the fact that Augustus was a Church member, and the young man that was with him was not a Magic Knight. Maybe the man was very afraid, uncertain whether the two were actually escorts for the mission or they were disguised bandits waiting to jump the man. Augustus himself would hold up his hands to placate the merchant.[break][break]
“Augustus Ravencrest, Deacon of the Royal Capital. This here is my companion,” He would gesture to himself first before the young man beside him. “We were both sent here to guard you of any unnecessary interruptions through your journey towards the next town over. Bandits were said to roam these forests and field, yes?” He would ask, though the man seemed to calm down just a little after Augustus’ introduction.[break][break]
“You two boys are goin’ to be me escort? Fine, just make sure ye don’t let the bandits steal or hurt any of my cargo!”[break][break]
The merchant seemed more angry than anything. Augustus was taken aback for a second, before nodding. “Yes, we will both make sure that none of the bandits steal, or harm your tomatoes at all cost. So, shall we get going then?”[break][break]
His companion might talk to the merchant, or he might just follow. All Augustus knew was that he was ready to start and end this particular mission. Combat was not really desired, but he was ready to test out the sword his sister had gifted him fairly recently. Hopefully, it was up to the task in hand to hand combat. His life might just depend on it, after all.
Hans nodded at the man's reply as there was really not much else to add. The man was no stranger to arriving to a job before the person issuing it. He was patient and expected them to be arriving soon, especially with how desperate they come off as judging by the papers they made. If they were too take too long however, Hans will simply just leave. There are plenty of other people out there wanting others to do their work for them so missing out on one job wouldn't hurt.
The commoner focused his attention on the main area of the town which could still be seen from where the two were standing. He watched as people went back and forth with various cargo. This place was certainly a trading town, it was real easy to tell by the structures and the people. There were still some who found time to chat and pal around. There were even children out and about playing, of course not anywhere dangerous. It was pretty peaceful to watch these people do what they do for a living. Hans found himself daydreaming a bit until he heard the voice from the male beside him. He introduced himself as Augustus Ravencrest. "Hm?" A noble? Not just that, but from one of the upper houses in this Kingdom, House Ravencrest. Hans already suspected Augustus of being a noble, but didn't think much about the house.
Hans turned his head back to Augustus, looking at him before noticing the hand extended out to him. "Hans Walker" is all the man said in return, not even lifting a finger to return the handshake. It wasn't because the man was rude, or didn't like the noble for some reason. Hans is just not that much of an open person, and usually keeps a distance from others. This of course isn't his first time turning down handshakes, usually getting a dirty look or even an insult thrown his way, but it never phases him. It was just the way he is.
Noticing Augustus' shift in attention followed by a greeting and similar wave, Hans turned his head in the direction of where his partner was looking. The tomato merchant finally arrived. Hans just let the noble talk to the paranoid merchant, and listened quietly, learning that the blond was more than just a follower of that church, but a Deacon as well. Hans found this a bit interesting. The more he quietly learned of this guy, the more he wondered why he was taking such jobs like this? One could only imagine that he has more important things to do. He then gave his full attention to the tomato merchant, shifting his entire body in his direction. The merchant is a nervous wreck that's for sure. But the idea of him being paranoid over tomatoes of all things was a little puzzling. Then again he might just cherish those things very much, something that Hans could understand.
The moment the Ravencrest man finished speaking, Hans started to walk past him, heading in the direction of the forest they were suppose to travel through. If he remembers correctly, past the forest is another little town which is where this tomato guy goes to trade his goods sometimes. It would make sense that there are bandits lurking around these areas, wanting to steal whatever cargo they could get their hands on. Whether they were close enough to him or not, Hans would enter into the forest if he weren't interrupted, his hand on the hilt of his blade, ready for whatever comes at him.

The lack of handshake by his partner did not deter him. Instead, he forged on as their small group seemed to make their start. From what Augustus knew of the land, he was sure that Sosshi itself should not have had problems with bandits and looters. It was a trading town, and trading towns usually have their own for hire guards. There was also the fact that Sosshi was the home of the Black Bulls, which was interesting in and of itself. Augustus would have thought that the Black Bulls would have taken this mission specifically since it stemmed from their own town, and the fact it concerned one of their citizens. That was usually the case for missions, after all. While it was a free for all, and every single citizen or Magic Knight can take them, the Magic Knight squad that was stationed within a specific town would usually be the first in line to accept the mission. It was less because of the fact that they needed it, but more so because it concerned one of their own. Of course, this only applied to missions that were available to the public. Missions that were for the Magic Knights were strictly their own, and were by far more dangerous than the ones available to the general citizen. He had heard enough stories from his own sister about some of the missions she had had to go through, and that was not mentioning the dungeons she had delved in. No, there was definitely a reason as to why some missions were only available to the Magic Knights.[break][break] “Not talkative, are you?” Augustus would turn to his partner for this mission, and gave him his trademark smile. He was not someone who was used to awkward silences, or at least silence in general. Having grown up with other noble families, silence was something that he was not given, nor did he ever really like it all that much. Talking was important, socializing even more so, and Augustus Ravencrest was known to be one of the best when it comes to socializing, he was born, bred, and trained for it after all. Just like how his sister was trained to be the perfect Magic Knight, he was born to be the best statesman that the Ravencrest would have in this generation. And for the most part, they had done well with Augustus. But, in recent months, he finally decided to follow a different path. A more influential path. “I see you have a sword, however. I am, myself, a beginner, though I am trying my best to learn the art.” Swinging a sword was a little but different from actual sword fighting, and combat wise, he was only mediocre at best, “But, for the most part, I do not mind a good brawl.” He grinned at that. People have said that his punch was quite strong, stronger than the average person or Magic Knight. He supposed that he got that from his own training when he had had the free time. While he was not explicitly trained in combat, Augustus himself knew that he could handle himself in any type of situation. One of which seemed to be brewing just now.[break][break]
“Hey, look.” Augustus pointed out some footprints that seemed to lead off towards the tree line to their right. He was adept enough at hunting to know that footprints were important, even more so when there is an expectation of bandits attacking at any moment’s notice. The footprints numbered about eight, from the pairs that he was able to make out, and they seem to just disappear from the tree line. Even his keen eyes could not see where the footsteps were headed, and he was unsure whether these footsteps were the only group that might be waiting for them. In any case, they needed to be ready. “I count eight pairs. Most likely waiting for us by those tree up front from what these footsteps angle towards.” He would nod subtly at the way the indents were angled. “Fresh too from the looks of it. These bandits are amateurs. They did not even bother covering their tracks. Either that, or they are too confident.” Augustus sighed, subtly unlatching the satchel that carried his grimoire. It had been too long since he found himself in the middle of a combat situation, and truthfully, his blood was pumping and he was ready. The prideful part of him wanted to make sure these bandits would never dare cross his path again, but the more pious part of him wanted to turn them in for reform. None the less, he was going to enjoy this fight no matter what.
As Hans entered the forest, his eyes shifted from left to right as he observed the trees and various other places the bandits could potentially be lurking. The man wanted to stay alert and make sure that no one gets the drop on him or the merchant that was trailing behind the both in his horse drawn wagon.
The moment he heard Augustus' voice again, Hans looked forward before glancing at the noble. "Nope." was all Hans had for a reply. Talking wasn't really the man's thing, partly because he felt it would be a distraction during the mission but also because he was not good at small talk. Hans never had any people to hang around with while he was growing up like friends. He's only had his abusive father, his caring mother, and then his prideful guardian. Hans pretty much just stuck with himself, not wanting to form anymore connections other then temporary ones in the pursue of making money.
However, Hans found himself looking more in his partner's direction, turning his head a bit as the guy started talking about learning how to use a sword. Well...keep practicing. It takes time and patience to learn how to fight efficiently with one." Hans said. He was mostly quoting what his guardian told him years ago since it was him who introduced him to the world of sword fighting and the ability to harness his magic through it. Hans still lives by these words when it comes to using his blade and training with it. He is still no master himself, but he has found using a sword to be a little easier than brawling, not that he is no stranger to that as well.
Just as Augustus took notice of some footprints, Hans looked back to make sure that the merchant was fine. He didn't really need to check since the wagon was close enough to still be heard, but one could never be too careful. The guy still looked as paranoid as ever, looking around all jittery like before looking back at his precious tomatoes. His eyes then locked on to Hans' giving him a failed attempt at a death glare before taking one of his tomatoes...and petting it like some sort of animal. The tomato merchant was definitely a character. It was obvious he loved those tomatoes. They must make him a fortune...or he has some weird thing for the fruit. Regardless, Hans' expression didn't change that much, but he was still a little puzzled by the merchant's behavior.
Hans found himself looking forward yet again, stopping as Augustus spoke about the pair of eight footprints. The blade wielding mage took notice of this as well, seeing that they were being set up for an ambush. "Or they're just idiots." Hans added as he continued to walk, heading in the direction of the tree. His hand was back on the hilt of his blade as he drew closer. Once he made it to around where the prints faded, the man would hear a brief sound of some rope, and in mere seconds, a net that was completely covered in leaves came flying upward, trapping Hans and hanging him up at the tree. "Ngh!" Hans was expecting something to happen when he drew close, but was still thrown off guard by this happening so suddenly.
"We're idiots huh?" With the signaling of their trap being set off, about four bandits descended down from the tree while four more came out of hiding from nearby, each with their grimoires out and swords in hand. "Looks like we caught ourselves a live one, boy!" one of the bandits snickered, causing the others to join in on it as well. "Looks like we got a fancy pants and some free tomatoes as well." they added, looking in the direction of Augustus and the tomato merchant who has now dived into his own mountain of tomatoes, hiding within them while hugging some of them close together. Four of the bandits started to make their way towards Augustus while two of them walked up to the trapped Hans, the remaining two just standing back and watching with sinister grins. The moment those two bandit's drew close, Hans immediately unsheathed his sword and was able to cut himself out with ease, landing feet first right on top of one of the bandits which caused the thief to crash down onto the ground. "Wha-you piece of shit!" the other bandit yelled as he dashed towards Hans, trying to strike him with his sword only for it to clash with the man's blade with the sound being very audible. Hans then put in enough force to push the bandit to the ground just before the other two attempted charging at him!
One of the approaching bandit's grimoire started to glow what appeared to be a boar made out of various fruits with bananas for tusks materialized and started charging alongside its creator. Hans quickly unstrapped his four leafed grimoire, causing the dark colored book to raise to his side and flip to a certain page with an ominous aura surrounding it. The silver blade of his katana was then coated in darkness and as the bandit got close enough, Hans struck him horizontally against the stomach with impressive speed and enough force to send the crook flying back until he hit a tree! There was now a rip in the bandit's shirt with some blood, and residual darkness from Hans' spell quickly disappearing into the air. The boar made of food ended up falling apart in the process before disappearing. Hans was not planning on holding back.

Augustus would chuckle and shake his head, though he kept his comments to himself. He supposed that the man with him was honest enough. Silence was golden, for a lot of the populace. For Augustus, silence was never golden. He learned from when he was younger that silence meant either of two things. The first was that there was nothing to be said. And that was a major problem for any noble in all types of social situations. When silence reigned, it means that people are awkward, and when people are awkward, they will feel less inclined to talk to you again after the moment has passed. Awkwardness stayed within the reaches of a person’s psyche. It was an unconscious reaction, well at least it becomes one, to try and stay away from people who had once been awkward. And that, definitely, brewed problems for any noble that wanted to keep their social status up high. The second, and possibly the worst meaning for silence is brewing anger or resentment. Usually, Augustus would find these in families that did not lash out verbally or physically when they were angered. The Krane family were one of them, poor in both monetary and expression, they seemed to be the most unnerving to deal with in the Upper Nobility circles. Well, he was still surprised they were still considered Upper Nobles after all. But in any case, Augustus knew that his man was silent because of neither of the two reasons. [break][break]
It was a breath of fresh air, truly. Augustus had not ventured out of the Royal Capital much before he became the Deacon of the Royal Capital. He never had needed to. Well, there were the visits to both Raque and the Town of Silva. While Raque had been a headache, having been stopped by the other lower nobility families from expanding the Ravencrest business to the ports, the Town of Silva had been a nightmare. He had been followed day in and day out by the Silva family, and his privacy was basically none existent. But truly, there was a sense of freedom that Augustus felt while travelling, and even doing this job with this young man, and the way he seemed to be uncaring for the world, it was wholly new and very much a breath of fresh air. To just live. Now that was something that Augustus would never experience, sadly enough. The affairs of the Ravencrest family will always be at the forefront of his mind, and would always be calculated with his every step. It was the curse of being a part of the upper nobility, the price he paid for having the luxuries he possessed. [break][break]
“It seems I will be able to practice my skills now.” Augustus would whisper to himself, as his partner seemed to have made his way to investigate the footprints. If it were up to Augustus, then he would have just stayed within the group near the cart, and let the ambush unfold on them. The tactic might have served well in this case, and he could have given his partner the back up he seemed to currently need. But, at the end of the day, hindsight was always too perfect, and Augustus knew that all he could do now was react accordingly. At least, with the safety of their client in mind, which was always the case for him. [break][break]
“We're idiots huh? Looks like we caught ourselves a live one, boy! Looks like we got a fancy pants and some free tomatoes as well.” [break][break]
Augustus would watch as the bandits seemed to have focused on his partner first. Having been caught in the trap made him to be the most vulnerable, and the easiest target. He would shake his head, hand already on his swords as he appeared to slowly draw it out. The six foot broadsword was easily handled by Augustus, who had practiced with the weapon more hours than what was deemed healthy. It was a gift from his sister, after all, the light element sword called Lumiere. [break][break]
Four made their way towards Augustus, and he lost sight of his partner and what he had been doing. He trusted the man, the weapon on him indicated that he at least had some semblance of combat. And the blade would also, funnily enough, help him through his current situation. [break][break]
“Fire mage,” Augustus would grunt, “Just great.” He would glance towards their client, who already seemed to be hiding in between his tomatoes. How odd. That would definitely not serve him well, and Augustus would have advised him to hide, instead, underneath the cart. But he digressed. Augustus supposed this was good for now, since the men were all focused on him at the moment. It would be good to not have to worry about the merchant after all. Plus, the man might also try to protect his tomatoes if the bandits ever got too close, which was a godsend if he did. For now, Augustus levelled his sword at the bandits, while his grimoire had already started flipping pages. [break][break]
“Ey, let me and Ern ‘ere take ‘im. Don’t think e’s goin’ to be ‘ard to take out. Two of us would be ‘nough, ‘ey?” [break][break]
Augustus would not say anything, only watching two of the four bandits approach him with a maniacal grin. They both looked identical. Twins, Augustus imagined. They both had their own grimoires out, with their hands already alight. It seems that they were both fire mages that liked to fight melee, which only suited Augustus well. [break][break]
They both ran at him now, and Augustus quickly pivoted himself to the side. He unlatched his cloak, and threw it into the faces of the two fire mage bandits. They had been stunned just a second, before Augustus quickly took advantage. Lumiere, now drawn and ready, slashed at the first man, before Augustus pummeled him with his fist to the face, knocking him out. [break][break]
The second bandit was still trying to get Augustus’ cloak out of his face, but by the time Augustus had taken out the first twin, the second was already searing his war through the fabric. He took one look at Augustus, before he shouted and threw a punch. Augustus, for his part, dodged left, and slashed at the man, nicking him on the ribs. He then followed it up with an elbow to the back of the head, knocking the bandit down and keeping him out of the fight. [break][break] “So, fancy pants, huh? Let’s see what you both can do then?” Augustus gave the two men his flashy grin, before reaching out with his hands and making the “come here” motion. A taunt, if there was anything like it.
Hans' eyes were still set on the bandit he sent flying. Compared to the other two he clashed with, the third one was in pretty bad shape, but he was still conscious as he started getting up from the tree. When it comes to using spells, Hans still has a lot of work to do. The dark user readied his blade, holding onto the hilt with both hands. Dark Edge, the name of the sword given to Hans by his late guardian. It was a replica of his guardian's own sword except not as durable. Still, Hans has made good use of it over the years when it comes to fending himself or for missions like these. It's probably the only thing he cherishes. Unfortunately, he never managed to hold onto anything that could remind him of his mother, but perhaps he could find something if he ever decides to face his demons and return back to the place he lost her...Aries Garse.
But for now, Hans had other matters to attend to, like these bandits.
The fourth bandit on Hans' end finally decided to jump in to the battle, sprinting towards the sword wielder. His every step crushed whatever leaves or plants he stepped upon, making enough noise for Hans to notice. Quickly, the mercenary turned his attention towards the fourth bandit and his sword clashed with their own just like with the other one previously. The fourth bandit gritted his teeth as he struggled to overpower Hans who kept a more stoic expression. The bandit then attempted to slash at Hans again who simply backed away and took advantage of this to slice at the bandit's arm, causing him to drop his sword and wince. The bandit groaned, holding his hand on the cut left on his wrist. Not wasting anytime, Hans slashed at the injured bandit's throat which caused him to fall to the ground, now gripping his hand around his bleeding neck as he gasped. After a few seconds, the bandit ceased his squirming.
Hans looked down at the body just as the first two bandits he previously attacked got back to their feet. The dark mage was half expecting these two to just run off and abandon the rest of their comrades, but they did quite the opposite. They seemed angry with the loss of one of their own, both glaring menacingly at the mage who was now looking back at them. The first bandit dashed Hans and attempted to pull off a downward slash! Hans shifted his upper body to the side with the blade of the bandit's sword still close enough to cut off a few strands of Hans' hair, but not enough to be noticeable. The bandit prepared a followup attack however, by using his grimoire to summon a piece of salami around the same size as the merc's sword. He smacked the side of Hans' face with it which made the salami wiggle a bit. As comical as that looked, it still did some damage, possibly reinforced or something. It was more evident when Hans tried slashing it, but all it did was collide with the meat, causing Hans' eyes to raise a little. The bandit smirked and started striking at Hans with both the food and sword, but the man was able to keep up with deflecting each attack with the use of his katana.
In all honesty, Hans didn't think that these lowly criminals would put up much of a fight. Their attacks weren't much, but they were still pretty resilient.
The second bandit finally made his move with an attempted sneak attack. Hans managed to catch this from the corner of his eyes and jumped back once more, causing the first bandit to strike the second by mistake. Fortunately for the second bandit it was just the salami that hit him. "Watch where you swing that thing, asshole!" the second bandit yelled before turning his attention to Hans who proceeded to hit the poor bandit in the face with the butt of his katana, leaving him unconscious. "Finished?" Hans now had his sword set back on the first bandit who backed up a bit. The crook was starting to get nervous, but he wasn't ready to back down. The bandit's grimoire flipped to another page and he conjured up five floating carrots with very sharp tips which were all aimed at Hans who prepared himself, clenching on the hilt of Dark Edge harder.
Hans needed to try and finish this up quickly since he wasn't sure how Augustus or the merchant were holding up on their end.

Fear was something that Augustus was not used to. At least, fear in a sense where in his life was in danger. Fear for his safety was never truly something he had to worry about. After all, the Ravencrest family always had a retinue of body guards, as well as their own private security detail where ever they went. It was something that was not known, though it was also something that was truly unnecessary. Augustus himself had never had to have any of his guards nearby, though he was sure that they had tailed him on more than one occasion. It was their job, after all, to keep the Ravencrest family safe, and for them Augustus was most likely the most important person they needed to keep an eye on, aside from Lydia who did not need anyone to actually help her in any case, as well as his own parents, who he was sure had their own security detail when they were going around the Clover Kingdom. But truly, his safety was never an issue what so ever. And while he had been endangered once or twice, most notably during one of his more daring missions that involved a bear and having to scare it away, he had never had to stare death in the eyes before. Nor did he ever want to. He liked fighting, he liked sparring, and he certainly liked pushing himself to the limits with his sword play. However, he certainly did not like having to fight for his life. At least, not when he was barely trained enough to actually fight.[break][break]
Augustus faced off with the other two rogues now, knowing that if he failed, he would most likely either lose his life, or lose his dignity as a nobleman of the Clover Kingdom. Pride was his downfall, but pride also made sure that he never gave up. He was a Ravencrest true and true, and therefore losing was never an option for him. However, he realized that while his initial tactic had worked, he was technically out of options now. His strength had never failed him, nor has his sword ever let him down when in a fight. At least, the few times he has had to use his sword, the light weapon Lumiere, in a fight that is. He trusted his skill to the point where he would be more than happy to engage these bandits in a one on one fight. However, in a two on one, his chances basically plummet. The only saving grace for him, it seems, is that he was able to use the environment and his material possessions to his advantage. He had already lost his cloak to the first two bandits, so the question remains, what should he do now? There were only a handful of options left for him, though he knew that anything he did was a one shot deal. If it failed, it could spell the end for him. And truly, he did not want to see his end just yet. He had only just begun after all.[break][break] “Oi, tha’ fancy pants boy just go’ both Ern an’ Finn! Wha’ should we do now?! Can’t leave ‘em be’ind, can we?”[break][break]
“Don’ be daft, ya idjit! We won’ be leavin’ them be’ind!”[break][break]
“Hey! Are you both going to just stand there? Or are you both going to actually do something?” Augustus would holler at the two, his voice carrying throughout the forest as he held the six foot sword pointed towards the two bandits. Scare tactic was something that can be used, and he knew that it might be one of the few ways he can tilt the fight to his favour. The two men seemed to be more focused on the fact that Augustus was able to defeat two of their comrades in one go, though Augustus would call it beginners luck. At the end of the day, he was sure that he would need the rest of his luck for the next couple of years to come out of this in one piece. Hopefully his plan will work out for the best, since he had little else he could do at this point. It was his curse that he only had one spell in his grimoire, something he knew he would have to rectify sooner or later. For now, he would need to make full use of his very limited resource, as well as his gut feeling. Both are very very limited, and Augustus could not help but internally sigh at his own weakness. “Come on, then! Show me what you both got!” [break][break]
The two bandit would snarl, and one would quickly bring his grimoire out and send what seemed to be a wind type projectile at Augustus. With the trajectory, Augustus could barely just dodge, before using his own spell to start the combat sequence he had in mind. While he himself was limited in terms of what he can do, he knew that his golem could be one of his best assets at this point.[break][break]
“Minyades, go!”[break][break]
The four leaf clover grimoire would light up, well, in Dark shades. The colour black dominated the area around the old tome as mana was poured into it. The spell was cast, and without pause, three dark golems sprang out into existence just in front of Augustus. The man would grin as his bats screeched, and had actually surprised the two men. It had worked well enough for the bear, it should work well enough for these bandits who seemed to have little to no experience with proper combat. The screeches echoed throughout the forest now, as the bats started to attack the wind mage, who seemed too terrified to defend himself. Three enemies certainly was more frightening than just one, especially since the bats were about five feet in size, the same as a short human being. [break][break]
The second bandit would roar in anger, letting his emotions fuel his every move as he charged at Augustus. It seems the loss of his friend’s support had actually affected his combat style, and it seems that the man was more erratic. [break][break]
Augustus took the opening, and quickly parried the man’s physical punch, before side stepping the a small boulder that was sent at him from the side. It had nicked his shirt, and tore it, but he had evaded it in such a way that he was not scratched. [break][break] “Lumiere, guide the way.” Augustus whispered as he slashed twice, the first was blocked by the bandit’s arm, which seemed to have been reinforced with his magic, but the second one caught the bandit on the chest, catching him off guard. Augustus quickly capitalized on this, and punched him straight to the face, forcing him back just a little, but definitely loosening up some teeth in the process.[break][break]
Knocked out, Augustus would turn his attention towards the second bandit, who seemed to have dealt with two of the three Minyades golems, but sustaining damage himself. Without a word, Augustus threw his sword straight and true, and gashed the man’s leg, causing him to kneel. He quickly ran towards the last of the bandits, and kicked him on the chin, sending him back and knocking him out.[break][break]
“Four out of four, ruined my shirt, but definitely not bad.” Augustus would sigh, though he quickly remembered that his team mate was engaging the other four bandits. He would turn to his partner’s direction, quickly grabbing Lumiere as he did so. He was going to help if it was necessary, though he knew his last Minyades golem would probably be of little use.

On Hans' end, two bandits were out of commission, one dead while the other unconscious. The job never specified how the bandits should be taken care of, only that they need to be stopped. Depending on the opportunity presented to him, Hans will either kill or temporarily immobilize his foes. He does not have any problem with killing, not being something that phases him much because of the life he has chosen to take unless it has been specifically stated to be avoided during certain jobs, but he does not go around just murdering others left and right. He is especially against harming children due to growing a soft spot for them.
Two bandits still remained, though the one that was previously struck by one of the man's spells still struggled a bit. The primary threat was the bandit in front of Hans now with three carrot like spears floating, aimed at the merc. With a gesture of his hand, the bandit launched the three magically conjured vegetables at Hans who managed to jump out of the way, but not before getting grazed by two of the sharp carrots, leaving two nice cuts on his left shoulder and ripping part of his sleeve. The carrots all landed on the ground before disappearing shortly after. Hans was now crouched on the ground and used this opportunity to slash at the bandit's ankles with his katana, nearly causing the crook to fall over as he winced and stepped back.
Hans quickly stood back up and was now eyeing the bandit again, waiting for his next move. The bandit seemed very agitated at this point since he was barely able to get hits in and two of his comrades are already beaten. He was just one guy, how could four people have this much of a hard time dealing with a single person!? This is a thought that the bandit had going through his head, furthering his frustration. But before he could strike again, the bandit noticed something from over Hans' shoulder. "Th-the hell are those!?!" the bandit yelled out just as screeching could be heard which scared off any nearby birds that weren't already gone due to the battle. Hans turned his head in that direction as well, but with his sword still aimed at the bandit. He quickly took notice of a few bat like creatures around Augustus. From how they started attacking one of the bandits on his end, it was safe to say this was a spell that belonged to the noble. What really caught Hans' attention was the aura coming from those creatures, and how they looked. It was very similar to his own magic, but used differently. "Is that...?"
The bandit realized that Hans wasn't paying attention anymore and used this as an attempt to rush him, but the merc could hear his rushing footsteps and turned around just in time to meet his blade with his own! A couple of strikes were exchanged, causing the bandit to back up with almost each strike since Hans was starting to overpower him. As another struggle between the two's blades occurred, the second bandit that was still up managed to get back into the battle and tried swinging at Hans who luckily caught this by the corner of his eyes. Hans ducked and rolled out of the way. He got back to his feet and was now in front of the remaining two bandits. "Oi, this is the end of ye, mate!" one of the bandits claimed with confidence. Hans' brows lowered a bit as he focused on these two. This battle had went on for long enough, and it was time to end it.
Placing both hands on the hilt of his sword, Hans faced his blade downwards just as his grimoire flipped a few pages before settling on one. A dark aura once again surrounded his floating book as the silver blade of his katana was coated in darkness again, making it pitch black. The bandits finally noticing that something was up, ran at Hans again but before they could reach him, the merc gently tapped the tip of his weapon against the ground. The gentle touch created a destructive shock wave of darkness that sent the two bandits flying back! It scratched up some of the nearby trees, breaking some branches as well as kicking up some of the soil and leaves on the ground. The two bandits took this attack head on and were now on the ground. One was completely motionless while the other weakly moved his fingers before they finally stopped. With that marks the end of these crooks.

“Huh…” Augustus would whisper to himself as he watched the young man, his partner, battle the last of the bandits that had tried to trap him. Of course, he had been very confident about the fact that his partner would have had an easy time in managing to disentangle himself from the net trap. He had a sword, after all. And Augustus was sure that the weapon was not just for show. However, what had made him stop for a moment to watch was the fact that the young man was using an element very similar to his own. It felt similar, at the very least. He knew that there were elements that were very close to Dark, one of them was the most familiar to most, and that was the Shadow element. It was a version of Dark, yet not as rare nor as powerful in its own right. Of course, Dark element, while very strong, had its innate weaknesses that were more or less a product of its advantages. At the end of the day, an element is only as good as the one who is wielding it, after all. Inherent advantages and disadvantages be damned, a mage can excel no matter what as long as they worked hard.[break][break]
It was then he realized that, after the man had beaten his last opponent, that there were a handful that were actually dead. He closed his eyes for a moment, and gave a sign that blessed the bandit’s passing into the afterlife. No matter a bandit or a noble, one always had the right to pass on peacefully. Judgement for them now was in the hands of the Four Deities, and not in mortal hands. [break][break]
“I suppose we should tie all of those who survived up.” Augustus would start as he made his way to the four downed bandits that he had fought. Another whack to the back of their heads made sure they would not be waking up soon. He then quickly picked up their grimoires, placing them securely tied just to the side of the tomato cart, before grabbing a spare rope that the merchant had on himself. He said no words as he tied the bandits up, one at a time, before latching them securely to a tree nearby. “Once we get to the next town over, we can report them and the authorities will deal with them. Their grimoires will be turned in to the proper authorities as well, and will make sure that they can’t escape these knots.” Augustus would nod now, “The double square has not failed me yet.” [break][break]
“We should be getting to the next town in about half an hour, I think.” The man would look towards the sky now, checking their current status of day, “Still the afternoon, so we should be fine.” Augustus urged their group on. “Let’s get this over with, shall we?”
[break][break] Their journey would end without a hitch, and the incident reported to the proper authorities, who Augustus assumed would deal with the matter. All in all, it had been a successful mission. Though, Augustus would realize that he had not asked the man about his magic and his element, something he vowed to do if they ever crossed paths again.[break][break]

Hans looked at the four motionless bodies that laid around him, making sure that none of them would get up and try a sneak attack. Seems that they were really done for however. The merc exhaled out his nose before taking a small cloth from out of his pocket. He used it to clean the blood off of his blade before sliding it back into its sheathe. Placing the cloth neatly back into his pocket, Hans turned his attention back to Augustus who was able to wrap up on his side.
As Augustus started to talk, Hans looked over at the tomato merchant who finally rose from out of his little tomato fort, causing some of them to fall onto the floor in the process. Panicking a bit, the merchant jumped onto the ground and frantically scooped up all the tomatoes that have fallen and it appeared like he was...whispering to them? Possibly apologizing for nearly putting them in danger. Hans decided not to try and explore that further. All that mattered was the that the merchant is safe as the job demanded. He then looked back at the downed bandits.
"Right.." Hans agreed before walking back towards the bandits he defeated. Upon closer inspection of each, only one of them was still alive. Despite these bandits being crooks, Hans had some respect for them in the fact that neither of them tried to flee from this battle and leave their companions. He also found it stupid that they would continue to fight a losing battle. A fighter must know when to retreat, or at least that's what Hans thinks. The deaths of those three bandits were all on them, not the mercenary which is how he sees it.
The merc went ahead and tied up the one that was still alive and picked up his grimoire. He inspected the front of it, a three leaf with some food related symbols on them. About half of these bandits were using the same element which made Hans wonder if they were related in some way. Maybe they were family? It would help explain why they didn't just abandon each other like a lot of common thieves do. Hans' grimoire floated down into the man's free hand shortly after. He looked at his dark book and the clover that had one more leaf to it than the bandit's. Hans was now glancing at Augustus as he remembered those bat things. Part of him wondered if the noble was like him, if his grimoire was the same. He then slowly shook his head and placed his grimoire back in its strap before walking towards the wagon with the bandit's grimoire. The two might wield the same magic, but that didn't make them the same. The idea of a Deacon using this kind of magic amused Hans a little however.
Hans silently nodded at his partner. It was time to finish this up. The group traveled through the forest without anymore problems. Those were either the only bandits here or others that may have been lurking decided not to try anything after potentially witnessing the defeat of the previous ones. The two mages managed to safely bring the merchant and his precious tomatoes to the next town and the mission was marked as a success.
Once getting his payment, Hans went his separate way, but not before giving the noble another nod, this time a small sign of respect. Even though he didn't say it, Hans wouldn't mind teaming up with this guy again if he has to. Plus, he was still curious about the magic the Ravencrest male possesses.
