It hadn't been that long ago when Mimir was approached by a group of men who needed him to complete a job. Hell, it had only been yesterday if his sense of time wasn't failing him. The men had approached him after hearing his and Big Mo's conversation in the local tavern. They needed a couple of strong guys to go to Hage and gather a debt that needed to be collected. Now, it was rare that Mimir agreed to any type of job involving actual criminal activities, but he was running low on funds and he actually needed some Yul in his pocket. Sure, he had a spare twenty thousand hidden, but his pocket change he had given to Big Mo after losing a bet. He didn't want to be walking around with empty pockets. That meant that he would have to take from people if it came to it. [break][break] A sigh would erupt from his lips as the town of Hage finally appeared into view. It was only the next town over from the previous town that he was in, but combined with a drunken state and tiredness, the walking had gotten to him. Mimir had traveled to the town of Hage before, so he knew his way around it quite a bit. He had already told Big Mo about the job and where to meet him once they both arrived in the town with the demon skull. They would meet in the front of the only church in the town. Speeding up his walk, Mimir would some come face to face with the white wooded building. It was nothing spectacular, but if it was the place where the Clover people praised their gods, then he would respect it. Moving in a quick fashion, he would go to take a seat on the steps leading to the door of the church as he waited for Big Mo.
It was a bright and calm day. Big Mo thinks it was a Saturday. The Sun was high, and occasionally blocked by clouds. Accompanying the warmth of the day was a gentle breeze that tickled Big Mo's cheeks. They had gotten work quick after their stunt in the town before this one. And that was thanks to their luck. In hindsight Big Mo regretted tossing around all that yul, as he was hungry. Hage was known for their pop-potatoes even he knew that. But he had no spare change. What he had was for another emergency the group was faced with. They were to meet at the Church, a agreed upon meet up spot. Big Mo wasn't familiar with Hage, only heard stories of the place, and how good the pop-potatoes of this place were. And in all honestly Big Mo had gotten lost. He was in town in what he felt was the market area due to the amount of people and produce on display. "Sorry to bother you during your shopping. But can you point me in the direction of the Church?"
He had spoken to a Woman and her Child; She was no more than thirty and the Girl had to be no more than five. They didn't exchange words but gave him a warm smile along with pointing him in the right direction. He would return the smile in thanks. It took a couple of minutes but only because Big Mo walks slow. Though he had drank a lot so he was not plague with a hangover. He wondered how the Youth, Goldy, was doing as the lad didn't last that long in their game. And knowing that Big Mo also felt he would be fighting off the effects of a losers curse. Something Big Mo had a lot during his own youth.
He'd find Goldy, sitting on the steps. It was evident on his face that the spirits left a mark on him. He held back laughs, but there was a slight chuckle. With a bit more pep in his step he'd walk over to him. Keeping a few feet of distance he'd begin to speak. "So what all do you know about poor fool with a debt?"
He stroked his beard as he awaited a response, Goldy was youthful and full of vigor. It was only right that he would take the lead during their job. Big Mo would assist in anyway he could. Collecting a debt was simple and shouldn't prove to be something that'd be so taxing. But Big Mo would do anything to fulfill this job, as only certain matters will he go against.
A smirk would appear across his face as he saw the old man beginning to approach. From how the sun was placed in the sky, he was right on time. Nodding towards him as a greeting, Mimir would listen to what the man had to say and reply "I just known that he lives on the outskirts of Hage. A small house on Nomotato Farm if I remember correctly. As I recall, Nomotato Farm is only east of here about a ten minute walk. The day is slowly fading, so how about we hurry along and get the gold from this guy. The employers don't care how it's done as long as we get what they need." With a small shuffle, Mimir would arise from his spot on the steps and begin his walk towards the outskirts of Hage, not paying attention if Big Mo followed or not.
At the moment he was his regular self. Not some drunken teenager that talked all night about nonsense. To Big Mo he may seem arrogant in this new state, but he didn't care. He didn't like being at a single place for long and he would rather find the target before nightfall. This town was the home of a Magic Knight facility and he would rather not encounter them on their roguish adventures. "Old Man, do you know what Magic Knights occupy this area? I hadn't seen them the last time I was here and it seems like they aren't roaming around here today either. Wouldn't want them to catch eyesight of our criminal mischief." said Mimir. He wasn't scared, he could care less about encountering a few magic knights. However, when they were roaming the lands where they were based it peaked his interest quite a bit. Maybe they would encounter them?
Big Mo would just nob his head in agreement, he did want to make this quick. He'd follow the Young Man's lead, keeping a few feet behind him. Big Mo enjoyed watching the sky as he walked, and taking in as much as he could of nature was a past time of his. His mind would stroll for a moment as he looked at the sky, as he spotted a Magic Knight. It could've been Goldy mentioning them that caused the small cameo, or just coincidence. The green robe let him know he was part of the Mantis, or whatever they were called. But the direction and speed they went let Big Mo know they were going somewhere in a hurry. As it was only a brief moment seeing him or her on that broomstick, but he noticed them nonetheless. At the moment this wasn't nothing more than noticing something for later. They were collecting a debt so Magic Knights more than likely won't get involved unless the methods used were extreme. But, even that could be avoid if handled correctly.
But all thoughts would be interrupted once his tummy would grumble, which came at the end of their journey. "I suppose that is the farm up ahead. I will check the fields, you head up to the house. Those that owe others will weasel away quick if they know they might be caught. Be careful Goldy, and know we just want his yul. Not his life."
It seemed the path the were on broke into two. One leading to the lone home, that had a barn attached, and the other to the fields that Big Mo wanted to go check out. Big Mo was heading to the field more so because he smelt the aroma of pop-potatoes, not in search of the Farmer. He had worked in farms at times in his life, at this time of day most wouldn't be in the field unless gathering something for dinner. Unless forced to not go Big Mo would make it to the field in just under five minutes, there he would spot the Woman and Child he had saw in town earlier. "Fate is such a cruel thing."
Upon arrival to the house Mimir would do as instructed. As he moved, a field of gravity would erupt from his body covering a distance of forty meters at a quick speed. He saw the smokey field take affect and knew that anyone in it would begin to feel its effects. Slowly their mana would be taken from their being and their speed would slowly come to a halt. He hoped the old man knew how to carry himself because in this field Mimir was the only predator and what was a predator without its pray? Mimir moved towards the house with great swiftness, noting that anyone with not so much mana would be unable to see the gravity field that had surrounded the farm.
Within moments he would come face to face with the door that led into the house. With a slight kick it would rip from the hinges and he would barge in unannounced. Surveying the area, he would see that the kitchen, living room, and dining area was empty leaving only the bedroom to be checked. He could hear a painful moan coming from it and smirked in response. Making his way towards the bedroom, Mimir would open the door and see a man on the floor slowly crawling. "A weak man like yourself wouldn't last a minute in my field of play. Tell me where the debt is you owe those men and I may spare your life." said Mimir, his red eyes gleaming as the light protruding through the window bounced off of them. The man would slowly raise his hand and point towards a dresser. Following his hand, Mimir would go to search the dresser and found a sack of gold in a drawer. Smiling with triumph, he would make his way back towards the man and deliver a devastating kick to his face, knocking him out cold almost instantly. At the same moment he would end his spell and make his way back out of the house.
"I got the gold! Lets go!" announced Mimir with a scream, hoping that his words would travel with the wind to wherever Big Mo was located. He would begin his descent from the farm and back towards town to find the people who were looking for the debt, hopefully with Big Mo in tail. Obtaining the debt had been quite easy and he would rather begin travel to another town before the man woke up and alerted the Magic Knights of the events that had transpired.
"Oh, hey Mister!" The Little Girl from before walked over to him, patting her head he gave her a quick smile. He liked the child, as she was loved by the mana just like him and Goldy. His attention was then on the Mother, and that basket full of pop-potatoes. They looked fresh and delicious. He eyed them for a clean few minutes before turning his attention to the Mother. The Daughter was given the basket and went away; to find some more pop-potatoes to pluck from the ground. This was fine with Big Mo. He preferred only Adults talk about matters of debts. He sat on the ground, wanting to relax his feet for a few minutes. He knew there was going to be only a few minutes to accomplish what he wanted.
"I don't suppose you are asking for directions." She stood nervous, and a few feet away. Big Mo could tell just from the stance she took this wasn't the first time she was having to speak with criminals due to her husband. This world wasn't fair. If it was this field would have more than just these pop-potatoes. And those clothes wouldn't be patched up.
"Not at all, as your husband is more than likely in the house with my comrade. Or do I have to take that child to draw him out?" Big Mo spoke with nothing but the truth. Mentioning the daughter allowed him to see the fierceness in her eyes. Despite knowing she could not defeat him she'd probably put up a fight. And if she did, this simply collection could turn to a murder quickly.
"He is in the house." Luck seemed to be on her side, as that meant this ordeal would end without the innocent drawn out. But that didn't mean they would not be taking any further. He wanted to know a few things until he got some signal that the job was complete and the yul was collected.
"Then relax, and give up that worried look. Your Husband won't be killed, hopefully." Big Mo would use his magic to influence the ground, slightly, causing a pop-potato to spring up in front of him. Unlike other folk he didn't mind his vegetables not cooked, so he took a bite out of the pop-potato.
"Then what do you want? Why don't you go in there with your friend and rob us, like the others!" He felt the pain in her voice, as she was tired of this stuff. Understandable, but that energy should've been used on someone else. It meant nothing to Big Mo, but he did understand.
"No, that is not my purpose. Your Husband dealt with criminals and I am using this to get close to those fiends. I just want you to tell me as much as you can about who offered you this loan." She spoke about everything that she knew. Big Mo listened and when she finished he'd hear Goldy call out to him. Standing up he'd walk over to her, taking out his emergency yul. He'd give her some of it. "Take care of that Child. And report this incident to the Magic Knights, include me as well. Tell them the Knight Killer and his Monk friend mentioned they are heading to Sosshi. "
He didn't walk slow to catch up to Goldy, and when he did he'd speak. "That was fast my Goldy, where do they want us to drop it off?"
As quickly as the Mimir had began walking would Big Mo catch up to him. The Old Man complimented him on his speed finishing their job and asked about where they were going to meet their employers. For a minute or so he would ignore the old man because his mind was travelling to places other than the place they currently was. He couldn't help but wonder why the Magic Knights didn't roam around Hage as they did other towns. If they had a base of operations here why didn't they patrol it like any other criminal stoppers. His hand would soon travel to his hairless chin, pandering on the events that had transpired today as well as the events that may happen in the near future.
"Near the middle of the town is yet another tavern. The men said they would be waiting it in for a day's time until we arrived to give them their gold. That is one of the reasons I wanted to get finished so quickly. Sure, if they left we would have the gold for ourselves, but their payout could be ten times the amount that I have in my hands right now." said Mimir as he tossed the bag of gold up in the air and playing with it like a small ball. He could just take the gold and put it in his pockets. After all, he already said he needed some pocket change. His stash he had hidden away wasn't near Hage and it would take some time before he came across it again. Letting out a sigh, he would simply continue to their destination.
"The middle of town, that is bold. You do the exchange, alone. In a week meet me in Aries Garse. JP's Gambling Hall. It would be best to not be seen together while in Hage." Big Mo didn't understand their Employer, even the job was strange. He wouldn't complain about it, they needed work. And since they weren't Magic Knights this was the best route to get their name out there. Regardless, they did commit a crime and if they Magic Knights were serious they'd be on the look out for them. So, after he spoke he would take a sharp right. Walking between to buildings for a few minutes he'd end up on another dirt road. He knew where his cart was, it was by the Rusty Inn.
With the job down and trust being quickly established there was no need to be stuck together right now. Unless something came up they'd meet soon. Big Mo would find his cart. He'd pat the horse before getting on. Getting it moving at a normal pace. No real reason to act in a hurry and draw more attention, or any for that matter. He had two stops, that is why he told Goldy a week. "I wonder how strong Goldy can become." Despite not commenting on it. Big Mo had felt the spell Goldy had created, that Child truly was blessed by the mana. To Big Mo he'd be his greatest ally, but to their foes he felt bad for.
He'd explain what he went to do when they'd meet back up. However Big Mo would stop thinking about Goldy, but rather on somethings he had learned. What he learned from the Farmer's wife was that her Husband, from time to time, borrowed money from the Eclipsed Ravens. A group he wasn't able to get too much information about, other than their name. He knew someone that'd be able to get him some details, he just had to go see her.
