[attr=class, cyrustext]Deep within the Forsaken Region, hidden within the ever present shadow of the cliff to its back, an old estate was built long ago. Constructed for and given to a curious family of foreigners by the Clover Kingdom, the intent was to provide these strange people with a place to call their own as a token of gratitude for their contribution during past skirmishes with the Heart Kingdom that they hailed from. But beyond simply thanks, it also served as a precautionary measure; while they had indeed offered the Clover Kingdom help in exchange for citizenship, the family was still not entirely trusted by the natives of the region; after all, if they betrayed their own homeland out of concern for their own safety, why wouldn't they do the same thing again should such an occasion arise?
This was the Elwood estate, where the lowest of the kingdom's nobility made their home. Far from the Royal Capital, where any sort of treachery could potentially prove catastrophic, the grand structure and walls that marked their territory certainly stood out from the wild surroundings if one were able to spot them through the darkness of their natural shroud. A decidedly unnatural shape, but one that seemed on its way to rectifying that, for the walls and courtyard of the estate were overgrown and dilapidated. Indeed, it almost looked as though nobody even lived there, or had for quite some time. Were it not for the lights visible through the old windows, it could very well be a haunted house from how it seemed on the outside. Due to their status among the Clover Kingdom's nobility, the family lacked more than a couple of servants; one butler and one maid for the entirety of the facility. Few members of the family still resided in the estate itself, with the rest making their way into the actual cities of the Kingdom once they had made some money.
At the moment there was one person sitting outside in the courtyard; Cyrus Elwood of the Golden Dawn, who was easily the most prominent member of the family in the present day. The young knight was seated at the edge of the courtyard's central fountain, legs crossed and eyes closed in a meditative position. There was no sound in the air save for the fountain itself, with even his spirit companion Hama making herself scarce. This was not without reason, though; he was training.
Specifically, he was attempting to develop his ability to sense Ki.
The subject of Ki was an area of study that Cyrus had always found interesting since he first discovered it in his preparation to attempt to join the Magic Knights. But when he brought it up to his mentor, Pesha Aeronwy, the former member of the Green Mantis squad advised against him attempting to learn it so early. Thinking back, he had to agree with her decision; at the time, Cyrus did not really know what it was that he wanted to focus on as a wizard. Every topic and branch of magic that he discovered while under her tutelage sparked the young man's interest and curiosity, and as a result he wound up becoming something of a jack of all trades; decent in most areas of magical exertion, but not as talented as other mages his age with his resources would probably be if they focused more. Adding Ki on top of all those different lessons would have only spread his time and effort even thinner than it already was.
That being the case, Cyrus had been getting by on what limited sensory abilities he possessed. Fortunately enough for him, what basic training he had undergone in the field had been sufficient for most tasks he had encountered during his time since becoming a member of the Golden Dawn. Sure more strenuous or hidden things were beyond his abilities, but he was competent enough to not be a burden on those who he worked with while on the job.
But ever since the Shatter, things had changed.
Well, to say things had changed since then would be to put it lightly. He had a sister now. The elders of the Elwood family were kissing up to him now instead of cursing his existence and success (though he had no doubt that they did such things whenever he was not around). He possessed a greater understanding of Healing magic than he did prior to the event, but had no spells or memories of such things as of yet. But distressingly, he also had come to realize that his already meager Sensory abilities had somehow diminished to even less than they had been; in fact, as far as he could tell, he had NO Sensory abilities at all anymore.
Which brings us to the present; with no Sensory abilities to fall back on, and having fought alongside several wizards who possessed the talent, Cyrus decided that now would be the perfect opportunity to try and develop his own grasp of Ki. While he had never actively used it before, he did get the feeling that he was at least sensitive to the power after feeling faint pulls at the edge of his consciousness; like voices calling out from the distance. Hama was eager to help with his training, as was his sister Alexandra. But for the moment he was just attempting to get a feel for the technique, so to speak. There was a family of rabbits that lived in the corner of the courtyard he was aware of, so for the time being he was focusing on trying to sense them. They weren't too far away from his seat at the fountain, so even a novice such as he should be able to detect their presence given enough...
There.
"Hama." He spoke, for the first time in nearly two hours. From the grimoire seated beside him emerged his fairy-like companion, an excited smile on her face. "Did you do it?!" She asked eagerly, bobbing up and down in midair like a normal person might bounce on the balls of their feet when excited. "We'll see. Look over at where the rabbits live; tell me in five seconds how many of them there are out of the burrow right now."
Hama nodded, turning to face the creatures. Cyrus and her both slowly counted down in their minds, in perfect sync. And then...
"Three."
"Three."
Cyrus' smile spread into a wide grin as his eyes finally opened, only to see Hama making the exact same expression back at him. He laughed. "Let's go grab Alexandra!" He told her, standing up from the fountain. "It's time t- wh-whoa!" He started, only to realize too late that his legs had fallen asleep and go tumbling to the ground. Hama couldn't help but laugh at her partner, who winced painfully but managed a strained chuckle. "... time to start phase 2." He finished, resting his head back on the ground.
They could start after his legs woke back up.
