Elliot had decided that the best place for her to train for a couple of new spells was out in the fringe. Not only was it neutral territory for basically everyone, but it was also a place one could find themselves alone for long periods of time if they so wished to be. In a part of the area that was mostly forest, near a clean supply of running water and plenty of shade, the girl posing as a man would begin her attempts at the two new spells she had devised. The first was the one she felt more important, the creation of wings using her ash magic so that she could obtain flight. Ashen Wings, or so she had title it after coming up with the idea, would be angelic wings made of ash that were attached to the backs of those it affected. That was the plan, but would she be able to figure it out now that she was out here all alone? Being alone was to save her from the embarrassment of failure in the presence of others, and Miss Elliot Woodcock did not take to embarrassment of any kind very well at all. After choosing her specific spot to stand she would begin her attempts, ash billowing out from the grimoire towards her back. What was supposed to be angelic wings, which were supposed to have feathers and at least look a bit graceful, ended up looking like she had attached two scythes made of ash to her body. That would not do, not at all! A wave of her hand across each would dispel the wings before she sat down for a moment.
On the ground Elliot would reach for a small stick and proceed to draw out the wings she was envisioning. It gave her a better way of picturing the wings, rather than just a basic memory, and with that done she would try again. Once more, Ash would come forth and arrange itself in a pattern across her shoulder blades. This time they would, indeed, look as they were intended to be. Rather than looking holy and majestic, however, they looked liked the wings of a fallen or corrupted angel. The ash was dark grey, nearly black for them. A side effect of the magic, she assumed, and with the thought brushed aside she would do an attempt to flap the wings. All that happened was a loud 'boom' as the wings erupted into a burst of ash that blew away rocks and nearly knocked down a smaller tree that was close by. A growl would come from deep within her as she tried once more, the wings forming fine before she again flapped the wings and did a leap of faith. Much to her surprise, Elliot would find herself floating in the air! A success, or at least a partial one! The female would fly about for a few minutes, getting a feel for them so that when it came to an important moment she didn't lose her bearings, before she would land and dispel the transport spell. One down, one more to go.
