Though she may be knowledgeable in certain areas, Suna was not aware of how much vice captains played a part of their squads. Well, come to think of it, Lydia Ravencrest was certainly something, so it did make sense. As for the Magic Knights training, it seemed like Charles was not of the typical sort. But she was still convinced that he was lazy only as a cover. Why or for what, she did not know, but it was just what she had concluded, and would continue to believe until something drastically proves that idea wrong.
As Charles countered her first attack, Suna could feel the solidness in his block. He was a lot taller than her, and no doubt stronger in terms of physical standards. But where her rapier-like sword lacked in power, she could make up in speed and flexibility. Cadenza flashed in and out towards their target, and managed to make a scratch at the knight’s legs. Her lower position had given her a slight advantage, but instead of going for another swipe, she had stepped back to defense. After all, her intent was not to harm her sparring partner; it was only to get a feel of his style and polish up on her own moves.
She heard his little comment, but did not respond. Her mind was completely engrossed in anticipating his next move. As Suna stepped back, she noticed that Charles had a pattern going on. Whether he knew it was something else, but she would test her theory out. As he struck out his own attack, Suna was prepared. Instead of blocking it, since she knew she probably could not handle the whole weight of his downwards swing, Suna dodged by taking a step to the side, letting the blade woosh by her. He was also pretty fast. If she had been a split second too late, her arm would be sliced through. But now he was aware that his legs were an area he would have to watch out for.
Seeing as he was now wary about his lower body, she would not be able to go for that again unless he dropped his guard there. The elf changed up her movement pattern, now bringing Cadenza up, aiming at slashing across his midsection. Assuming that he would block there, she would attempt to swing her blade back down near his legs, but that was not her true goal. Immediately she brought it back up to jab at his right side. Depending on whether he was aiming to block that one as well, she would leap to the left and now aim to swing at his left side.
Only now did she retreat and put both hands on the handle, sword in the middle and its tip pointed upwards in defense. She had kept her attacking movements small and quick, focusing on certain points while making sure she did not get too close to him. He could easily swipe her out in one move if she was not careful, and he had height and his sword length to his advantage. She had changed her pattern, going through a set of three small feints and one attack—middle, bottom, left, and then right. Now, bright azure eyes glowed as she awaited his next moves.

One of the few people that have been able to see past Charles's lazy personality, the truth is, he was indeed a very lazy guy, but that's not what his entire personality consisted of, Suna was able to see that, which proved that over their past interactions and more importantly today, in this very moment where the two met again. Even after what transpired at Kikka, Suna would be able to tell there was something different about the silver mage, even though his lazy attitude was still around the Black Bull had become more aware of the dangers of the Kingdom and what had to be done in order to keep it safe. [break][break] Suna's rapier was more durable than it looked, the rapiers focused on speed to the point it seemed like one could easily break the blade if he hits it hard enough, but that was no ordinary sword, it was a sword that was made of Suna's magic so it made sense it was more durable than one would expect it to be. Her movements mainly focused on quick attacks, unlike Charles who focused more on precise attacks and counter-attacks whenever he had the chance. After scratching him, Suna decided to back up which was a good decision, it was clear that she figured someone like Charles will realize his weak points and quickly adapt to avoid getting hit. She could've gone for another attack to gain the advantage right there if she desired. [break][break] As he attempted to strike Suna with his sword. She did a rather unusual move, but a reasonable one. Even if the rapier was stronger than it looks there was only so much force it was able to take. Either getting dodging did seem like a more viable and different option for Suna, her small size allowed her to dodge much easier. Charles took a step back dodging the incoming attack from Suna's part if he wasn't careful that could've been bad, even if he had his mana skin protecting him, it would've been better to avoid any injuries at all if he had the chance to. Perhaps Suna wanted to change her movement and make better use of her small size and speed to deliver as many strikes as possible, which will make sense if she did that, but it was still too early for him to assume that she was going for that. For all, he knows she could attack in the same or different way the next time. [break][break] Changing her movement pattern, it was time for Charles to do a bit of change as well. Even though Suna didn't look like much of a combatant, from previous encounters he was able to tell she was able to handle herself in a real fight, this proved that looks can deceive as anyone else would not be convinced the blue-haired wouldn't be able to go on a fight against someone else. She did mention that she trained under Lydia, the Vice-Captain of the Crimson Lions which added more into her experience and abilities, that a civilian wouldn't usually have. The silver mage was aware of this and know that he had to be careful about this. It was possible the Vice-Captain taught her a trick or two to gain the upper-hand in a battle. Charles took a step back from the incoming attack, he considered blocking, but dodging this time seemed like a better option since he blocked the last time, it was possible Suna was going to take advantage of that. The Black Bull later blocked the other incoming attack with his sword, the sound of metal clashing as he blocked said attack. He felt like Suna's attacks were slightly quicker and was being a bit more aggressive than before. The fight was increasing in pace, which started to make things more interesting. [break] Now it was his turn to attack, he had to be precise with his movements, Suna was a small target so it made it a bit hard for him. The best he could do was to do ranged attacks to make it harder for her to counter-attack whenever she blocked him. He had long arms and a long sword so taking advantage of that was necessary in order to gain the upper hand. Charles rushed towards Suna and went for a vertical slash against her, if she blocked or dodged the attack he would later slash horizontally in an attempt to get her in the case she attempted to dodge or carry on attacking if she decided to block. As soon as he finished Charles took a step to the side and ran behind Suna. He knew he had to change up his movement before she found out any other weaknesses on him aside from his feet. [break]
If this was a real battle, she was sure that the silver mage would not be the gentleman that he was right now. She would guess that he knew a bit more than he let on, but was holding back for a reason. But then again, this was just a friendly spar, not meant to draw blood. Goodness, was she really thinking of going that far? Charles was not the only one who had been going through some changes, and it frightened her a little at how quickly she was adapting to fighting...and how she could easily dispatch a mana beast without a second thought now. What was she becoming?
As she had resetted her position, she noticed how fast her sparring partner was adapting and taking in her movements. He was also analyzing her. The faintest of smiles crept on her face, though her concentration was still there. Fair. Swordplay was not all about brute strength and prowess—it was also about skillful manipulation and adaptation to the other’s movements. Her current partner had also changed up his patterns, dodging her feints and blocking her main attack. Smart move. So far, his patterns have been the same, but his method and style has changed.
Ah, now he is going in for the ranged attacks. True, Suna was a smaller target, but it came with its own set of limitations. As he came in with a vertical slash, the elf barely got Cadenza up in time to clash against the other pure aura sword. She could feel her rapier shudder underneath her hands under the sheer force of the swing. Of course, she could always recast the spell, but that took time. Even a split second of distraction could be fatal.
Here Charles went for a horizontal slash, and this time, her sword did break. Her arm also caught the edge of his sword, and the faintest line of red appeared. Suna leaped back safely out of range and held her hands up in surrender. "I concede!" She laughed, and waved away the rest of her aura magic. "Nice moves. You’re getting faster, too." She commented, then glanced down on her arm.
"Let’s get ourselves healed up, hmm?" She knew she scratched him earlier as well, so might as well heal both of them. If he would allow it, she would lay a hand on his arm. "Sorry, but this healing spell only works if I’m in direct contact with the person I’m healing." For the second time that day, Sapphire Heart glowed at her throat, and a soothing aura flowed out of the necklace...

It was clear Charles was holding back, in a real battle the Black Bull would've been more aggressive and even used his sword's special ability in order to gain the upper-hand and corner Suna on several occasions. After all, in a real battle, it was a question of life or death and possibly even other lives at stake. He was fighting with a friend for the sake of practice and even though this type of fighting may not be compared to a real situation where his life will be at risk. It still helped the silver mage in self-control and the correct use of the sword. Holding back was an important aspect he had to learn after all not restraining himself in a situation where he is surrounded by innocent bystanders will result in unnecessary deaths. Something that could've happened in Kikka when he almost murdered those children for the lack of restrainment because of the fact that he fell into an illusion. A lot of time has passed ever since Charles first joined the Magic Knights he learned experienced a lot of things, Suna probably had faced her fair share of dangerous situations before, but it probably wasn't as much as the situations the Black Bull had to go through, the toughest one being Kikka. [break][break] Charles was adapting to her movements and knowing her patterns. Though he wasn't experienced in sword fighting, the silver mage used to focus on the enemy's movements and learn some of their patterns in order to gain the upper hand. He also liked tricking them, but Suna smarter and had some combat experience, not as much as him, but still had some nonetheless. Tricking her would prove to be much difficult, unlike some random thug he could encounter. Plus her height and speed will prove to be more difficult and the lack of experience he had with the sword made things like that much harder to execute. [break][break] Even though the silver mage was adapting quickly to her movements, Suna wasn't falling behind either. She was blocking his attacks, but even so, her weapon was light compared to his and wouldn't be able to resist as much punishment as it focused on light attacks and speed. It's also a magic spell, which meant there was a limit on how much attacks it was able to resist from Charles's part. Eventually, the rapier gave in and broke, of course, is inevitably Charles's sword accidentally injured. The silver mage took a step back as his sword accidentally injured her, though he wasn't expecting her rapier to break like that. At the end of the day, the two were sparring getting injured was inevitable. "My bad! Are you alright? Yeah, I had to focus on other things." The Black Bull later nodded to Suna for the two to get healed up. It was a nice reminder that Suna had healing magic, it was certainly useful knowing that the two were fighting. [break] Charles remained still to allow Suna to heal him. "It's fine, better than nothing." It was better than nothing and he didn't mind at all. A healing spell would've been nice back in Kikka in the earlier stages of the battle, but it was better if the blue-haired elf didn't have to experience the hell it was. Nonetheless, he waited for her to heal up his scratch, which was minor. [break]
Suna was panting slightly as they stopped their spar, a light sheen of perspiration gleaming on her forehead. "Don’t worry about it!" She laughed, and covered the cut on her arm with her other hand, out of sight. Sure, it stung and hurt, but it was nothing compared to the slash she had received from a certain vice captain before. "I’m fine. Really."
Now she moved to heal the silver mage and herself. Like before, light blue puffs of mana appeared around their wounds, hiding it out of sight while the magic did its reparative work. This type of healing was definitely useful, as she was finding out. In essence, it was like a time machine, repairing and restoring bodily injuries back to normal. She much preferred this type of magic, truth be told.
Of course, there was a limit as to how much and how quickly her healing magic could work, but on extreme measures, she was fairly certain it could restore whole legs and arms, provided that she was strong enough. There was also a whispered rumor that if potent and powerful enough, it could even revive the dead. The elf did not know how true that was, but she was a long way from being that skillful and able in terms of healing.
Thankfully, both of their injuries were minor, so the healing process was fairly quick. "And we’re done, I believe." She looked at her own cut, stretching her arm in different angles and trying to feel if there was anything amiss. "Good as new!" Suna glanced over at the young man, critically examining her work. It looked to be completely healed, with no scars. The only mark that anything ever happened there was the small tear in his pants. "Ah, might want to get that mended. Unfortunately, my healing spells do not include repairing clothes!"
Then blue-eyed femme started to do some stretches, targeting her arms and upper body mostly. That was something she had learned from her training with her mentor, and she found that cooling down properly was just as important as warming up when it came to practice and any sort of exercise. She lifted both arms into the air and slowly bent to the side from her waist, exhaling softly as she did so. Then she repeated it on the other side, for several sets.
"So, what have you learned?" Suna inquired, in between her stretches. "After your experiences at...that place, I mean." She had almost mentioned that town’s name, but thought better of it. There was no knowing what kind of deep or painful triggers that name might invoke. "What are you planning to do now?"

Charles didn't show the same type of tiredness, unlike Suna, even though the Black Bull looked like he was about to sleep most of the time. He has grown accustomed to fighting, considering the nature of his job as a Magic Knight it has made him grow a level of resistance. Not to the change the fact that the blue-haired also had to maintain a spell, which could also place a toll on her. At the end of the day, the two seemed to have experienced their fair share of injuries in the past and the injuries they received from sparring were nothing compared to the situations the two had to face before. "Hah... Considering you've found yourself fighting mana beasts before I'd assume you've received worse injuries than this." [break][break] He remained still allowing Suna to heal his minor injury for him. This was the second time he was getting healed by her, which further proved how useful healing magic was. Not a lot of people within his squad had that magic, so this was rather rare for him to see. Healing magic was really a miracle, it allowed injuries that will normally take days or weeks to heal to a few minutes. Though healing magic was able to beyond going to superficial injuries such as scratches, but also capable of healing broken bones. Where it usually would take months for someone with a broken bone to be able to walk again. If Suna specialized herself further into such type of magic, she had the potential to become a great healing mage, as it was a type of magic that wasn't commonly used, but worth investing in. [break][break] "Thanks, and that's fine. I know healing magic is great, but it can't perform miracles like restoring clothing. Anyway, that's one of the reasons why I don't wear anything fancy things as other people do. They wouldn't last a day probably. The silver mage laughed and properly stood up after Suna finished healing him. The place where the scratch was previously located was good as new as if it never occurred in the first place. "Well... I guess it proves that even the strongest members inside the Magic Knight Squads are capable of losing. As I mentioned before... I'm going to have to increase my game if I want to get something done next time. Kikka left me a bad taste in my mouth that I can't seem to get rid of. I'll have to look for solutions." He replied to Suna, even though he wasn't entirely sure about his plans, he had ideas, but nothing definitive yet. The road up ahead a rough one and it was up the Charles if he wanted to face it for the sake of improvement or remain how he currently is. If the highest ranks fell, who will be the one to carry on what they started? [break]
At Charles’ comment about her fighting mana beasts and getting worse injuries than a cut, the elf only nodded and suppressed a giggle. If only he knew of the time when her entire side got slashed open. "Oh, yes. This is nothing, and I’m sure this scratch of yours is also like nothing to you." As she finished up her healing, she stopped the necklace’s ability and waved away any lingering magic. She was finding that it was becoming more and more helpful, and that she could also help out her friends not only in ranged attacks, but also backline healing. But she would have to get more powerful on this, if she was to be of any use to her team.
She laughed when the young man explained his reason for not wearing fancy clothes. "That’s one way to live." She remarked. "Then again, most people aren’t a Magic Knight, so they could afford to worry about their clothes." At least it was a good thing he was not like one of those gaudy and showy people who was all talk and no power.
The talk had taken a turn for the serious when he mentioned the fact that even a strong knight could lose. Though that was the realistic view, Suna knew that if most ordinary citizens knew of that fact, their trust and hope in the Magic Knight squads would suffer. Or perhaps they already did. But she was greatly encouraged when Charles said he was going to work harder. A step towards the right direction, especially for this self-proclaimed ‘lazy’ mage.
"It’s good that you’re looking forward and up, though." Most people would have simply given up and just fallen into a hole of depression...but as for Hans and Charles at least, she did not see that happening to them, and that was a relief. "I’m glad that your will is still pushing you on, and hope you find the solutions and answers soon." She said sincerely.
But now she had just noticed that the sky was starting to grow reddish. Here in the forest, darkness settled quite rapidly, and her house, though nearby, was not close to any other houses, so she would need to hurry home before it became completely dark. "'Tis almost sunset. Best not to be staying out here in the woods after dark, otherwise we’ll meet up with even more mana beasts!" She laughed and patted his arm. "It was a good sword practice today! If your squad base is open to visitors, maybe I’ll go visit you someday?" With that parting, the sound mage would wave her farewell cheerfully before hastening her way home.

Even Suna knew for a fact that this wasn't like him, after surviving the event Charles changed and the blue-haired was able to tell. He was unaware of the situations Suna had faced aside from mana beasts. "In a way, yes... It was not that hard for you to notice." The Black Bull couldn't help but laugh and smile back, she was right, that was nothing like him, which further proved how much he had changed on her eyes. [break][break] "Yep, work can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but it's worth it. Another thing is that I get a good payment, so I don't have to worry about running out of money by buying new clothes." Being a Magic Knight paid quite well, gaining more than a commoner would normally earn, of course, he was responsible and didn't run around on a spending spree, usually he only used it when necessary or when he wanted to it. His life was stable and he never had to worry about not having money thanks to his job. Taking a different turn where Charles stated he was going to be less lazy and work to increase his magical ability, after all, he has to at least do something useful whenever things get rough. "I'll rather not be dead weight the next time, I don't want to have that bittersweet feeling again. He could tell Suna seemed glad about his will to improve, even if for the most part the silver mage just wanted to slack off, the extra effort was needed. Because he was fortunate to have friends and comrades to help him, going through this was less difficult and prevented the Black Bull from falling into a deep depression. [break][break] Charles noticed Suna briefly looking towards the Sun, it was now starting to get dark and the silver mage also noticed that. "Yeah, I'll rather not fight mana beasts in the dark either with my poor sensory. You can, I've seen people who are not part of the squad in the base before, so you coming wouldn't be a problem at all." He replied, certainly not having an issue with her coming to visit him at the base. Every once in a while people who weren't part of the Black Bulls, with that Charles waved back at Suna as she left the place. Since it was getting dark as well it was time for him to head back to the base and try to get some actual rest. [break][break] [Exit] [break]
