[attr="class","boxas"] Genesis Fantôme La Poste Genesis inhaled deeply, breathing in the cool evening air. In. Out. In. Out. She stood alone on the outskirts of town, away from civilization, away from prying eyes. It was just her and her shadows amidst the quiet stillness of the night. Just the way she liked it. Her shadows followed behind the sauntering figure. When the sun is high in the sky, they are small. When the sun is low, her shadows grow in size. Sometimes, they even multiply among themselves, casting three shades on the same place. They can be shifting and moving with her, or utterly and completely still. They were predictable and consistent to her control. They were her ever present companions, the only constant thing she can rely on. That, and her own honed skills. Her situational judgment and process was the only thing she needed to work on. The bracelet on her wrist shone as it caught on to the rays of moonlight. Though it may have been given to her from a daemon, Genesis found that she had no problems using it. At first, she had wondered if those gifts might possibly work against her, like a double-edged sword. So far, she had not seen anything of the like, but was still wary. She had discovered that it had three abilities, two of which she had actually used. Now she called upon one of them. Ending Solitude. The femme tapped the gemstone on her bracelet three times. Like the first time she ‘accidently’ discovered it, mist began to pour out of it. Even at night, the purplish tones of the smoke could be detected. It formed a dense and thick area, much like one of her shadow spells. Once the mist dissipated and cleared out, there her golem stood, cold and ethereal in all its terrible beauty. The amethyst hues of the dragon golem glowed in an unearthly light. In this moonlit clearing, it looked like something straight out of a fairytale. It was a rare thing for this redhead to smile. However, this was the one thing that always got to her. It was an aerial weapon, this dragon. Gossamer yet mortally deadly, it was the perfect addition to her arsenal. Tonight, its owner aimed to discover more of its abilities, and what she could make it do. The redhead approached it and rubbed its maw. It may only be a creation of her own doing, and could only live as long as she did, but it was similar to her shadow creations. They would never betray her. She swung her legs up and over unto its back, her slender frame fitting perfectly between the base of its neck and where its butterfly-like wings sprouted from. “Beauté.” She patted the side of its neck in an almost affectionate manner. As affectionate as a shunned individual could be, that is. “Allons-y. Let’s go.” With that, they took off. Using her mana tether, she commanded it to flap its wings and lift itself up from the ground. “Plus haute. Higher.” She urged. Once in the air, there was only the rush of wings and wind. It was intoxicating. For a few brief moments, she allowed herself to enjoy the moment. The female mage and her dragon golem soared higher, up to the point where she could not see her own shadows anymore. They had fallen behind her, overpowered by the light of the moon. Even her worries fell away behind her. Yet, astride on her transport, she did not feel any unease or uncertainty. Here up high among the clouds, she could be totally and completely herself in all her bare vulnerability. She was free. But now, training. Genesis turned her golem towards the Fringe. It was a neutral territory among the kingdoms. Though mostly a wasteland, there were various parts where the terrain changes. It can vary from deserts to tundras, from forests to lakes. Now, from her bird’s eye view, she saw a mountain range up ahead, and she steered towards it. There will be plenty of flying mana beasts there. She had no doubt her golem could handle a fight on the ground. The question was, could its owner handle aerial combat? As they neared the rocky crags, she spotted a pair of flying figures. Perfect. She rounded towards it, and upon catching their attention, they made a beeline for the shadow mage and her dragon. Using her Poignards spell, Genesis shaped her shadows into a dagger, but just one for now. These blades were much longer and larger than her usual knives, thus giving her more reach and area of attack. Now, the red-haired femme tightened her knee grip. “Here they come...” She murmured, grey eyes shining in anticipation. And indeed they did. The two giant vulture-like beasts came rushing at the duo, beaks wide open and claws outstretched. Their wingspan was impressive, and their flight was almost soundless. Fearsome, but so was the shadow mage and her beast. “La grève. Strike.” Genesis commanded, and her dragon golem shot its own legs and claws forward, striking the one that was closest to them. The creature screeched as those claws scraped across its back, but it was not deterred. The other attacker came swooping in, its sharp beak outreached, aiming for the rider. The redhead swung her shadow dagger up, attempting to slash across the incoming beak. But instead, it swerved at the last moment, and she ended up only nicking one of its wings. In doing so, she momentarily lost her concentration on controlling the dragon, and it also ducked with her movements. She quickly righted herself and reestablished the mana contact. She needed to work on keeping her movements and her golem control separate. This was the first time she was attempting this, and with real enemies. However, she found that she learned the best when it came to the real thing, hence why she was here in the first place. Now the smaller vulture creature came swooping in, this time feet first. Genesis struck out, and her blade slashed through those dangerous talons. One moment she was striking out, and the next, she was falling. The other vulture had taken advantage of her shift of focus, and knocked her off balance from her seat. “Dive!” On command, the amethyst being dove after her. She managed to grab onto its neck and pull herself back into position. “Float!” Those wings spread out, and their falling descent slowed to a glide. Genesis breathed out a sigh of relief. As long as her golem did not suffer from a critical strike on the wings, they would be all right. Concentration was crucial here, as she was swiftly learning. A few more moments and she would have definitely crashed down into the forest canopy below. “Encore une fois. One more time...” She muttered, tightening her grip around her dagger. The two flying predators seemed to have watched the fall with amusement, if they had any emotions to speak of. “Haut! Up!” Now they were climbing back up in altitude, back to where the two creatures were cackling their heads off. At least, that was what Genesis imagined them. She leapt up to stand on its back, bending her knees slightly and balancing on it like she did with all her training sessions on logs. “Attaque!” The dragon swooped in after the two birds of prey. The shadow mage now formed another shadow dagger in her other hand, dually equipped. Just like before, one came in first, but this time, she had an eye out for the second one. The first one came, and she slashed out at it with her right blade. However, at the same time, she also brought up her other arm, tip upwards, and caught the attacker straight on its underbelly. The screech of pain was loud and terrible. It echoed and bounced off the rocky walls besides them, and Genesis had to stop herself from putting her hands over her ears. The vulture did not fall, but it did flap its wings and retreat back to wherever it lived. The other followed suit, but with an enraged cry that promised revenge if she ever came back. With the two flying beasts out of the picture, the night was silent and still again. “Bon travail. Good job.” She patted the dragon golem’s side. Though it was still only a creature under her bidding, it did not mean she treated it less than how she would treat a horse. Thanks to the bracelet, she will no longer have to travel by horseback anymore, not when she could fly. It had been a brief but insightful battle, but the fae could feel her connection with the golem being strengthened. She was still getting used to controlling and learning how to use it with her fightstyle. However, she knew this was just the beginning. Who knew how much more she could hone herself with this dragon golem by her side? They could make a frightful pair indeed. That would require more training, but for now, she felt more prepared and ready for whatever laid ahead.
