At present the Sensory Specialization is used for rudimentary tracking and communication. However, it does not at present allow the ascertaining of more detailed, specific information regarding those picked up by sensory spells. Of course, the capability is entirely present, as Sensory spells can already distinguish between individual mana signatures, it is therefor a given that even between relatives, or individuals of the same magic element, a distinction can still be made, establishing that sensory magic can pick out details based on one's mana signature.
I would like to suggest an expansion on the information that can be gleaned from Sensory Magic.
Information Categories:
Trivial (Information that is fairly rudimentary and should be easier to sense than distinguishing individual mana signatures as it is either a simpler distinction of the signature, or can be derived by changes in the signature's intensity)
- Magic Element
- Grimoire Tier
- Grimoire Rank
- Mana Skin Status
- Health Status
- Height/Weight/ect
Doable (Information that should be fairly reasonable to glean from a mana signature, but would be more complicated to attain)
- Mana level fluctuations (In response to a perk activating or a spell being prepared. This is in regards to simply the activation, not the spell or perk itself that is triggering)
- Medical Health (Mana is shown to dip in response to the body being in peril, feasibly less serious maladies or damage would register as a change. Diseases, curses, or other things that would heavily influence a person's ability to function. This would be a general condition, it would not identify the malady causing the disruption of mana)
- Mood (Mana is shown to respond to peril or emotional state.)
- Total Stats (More specific than say, Grimoire Tier. A more specific gauge of power)
Specialist Territory (Feasible, but likely only possible with either high skill, or a lot of time scanning the subject)
- Mana Flow (Able to tell where in the body mana is being channeled. Or even where outside the body it is being channeled).
- Presence of Curses/Debuffs/Subtle Maladies
- Stat distribution (Highest tier of power gauging.)
- Functional Analysis (Being able to break down how a spell is functioning by how it's mana is manipulated and deployed).
Naturally, the simplest solution would be to have Control/Sensory-based Tiers (as both one's ability to sense, and one's ability to control the spell in order to analyze minute information would be applicable for this kind of spell) for being able to sense these particular levels of detail on a target within specific ranges, with specific categories of information one is able to derive based on Grimoire Rank.
Example:
Junior is capable of Trivial information gathering within 2 meters of a target, increasing by 2 meters per 10 control/sensory beyond a base of 20 required to achieve this level of information gathering in the first place.
Intermediate is capable of Trivial information gathering within 6 meters of a target, increasing by 4 meters per 15 control/sensory beyond a base of 30 required to achieve this level of information gathering.
Senior is capable of Doable information gathering within 6 meters of a target, and Trivial information within 12 meters of a target, increasing by 6 meters per 20 control/sensory beyond a base of 40.
Grand is capable of Doable information gathering within 12 meters of a target, and Trivial information within 24 meters of a target, increasing by 10 meters per 25 contro/sensoryl beyond a base of 50.
Archmage is capable of Specialist Information gathering within 24 meters of a target, Doable information gathering within 36 meters, and Trivial information within 48 meters of a target, increasing by 12 meters per 30 control/sensory beyond the base of 60.
If need be, Perks can be required for high levels, such as Specialist information gathering, OR it could be required that the user have a Sensory-based Trinket equipped in order to achieve such information gathering (If you want a means of further making this a build to be invested in rather than something anyone can just pick up). Values can be adjusted, or requirements can be moved around, but all in all I think that Scanning is an entirely reasonable subsection of Sensory magic to have.
