NPC Information:
Verona de la Rouge, a constant topic of conversation amongst the rich and the poor within Clover, is the infamous robin-hood like piratess who roams the seas always ready to strike. A powerful user of fog-magic and a threat to many Royal and Noble navy ships of Clover (and other kingdoms alike), the red-headed woman has been dubbed “The Fury of the Depths.” She has one visible green eye and skin a shade of deep caramel from the years she’s spent on sea. The ship that she captains, The Red Solaria, is known to be the fastest on the seas and is rumored to be impossible to catch.
Smack Caballero, the famous Crimson Lion knight known to operate the complex battleship, "The Revenge of King Anton", is a force to be reckoned with at sea. Adorning powerful cannons and a strict coat of arms, the crew on the ship is known to be the very best when it comes to combat on water. Captain Caballero is an irregularly tall pale man with, amber eyes and sandy blond hair. The scar on his right cheek makes him recognizable by anyone familiar with the title “The Ruthless Giant.” He is known for his incredible offensive and defensive use of Gold Magic.
Enemies: N/A
Special Conditions: You must pick one of the two ships to go upon. The two are fiercely competitive with one another and would like to have a winner.
Catch at least one fishy big enough to win the competition!
Long blue hair bounced as the elf pulled her companion along. "Come on! I think they said it was around here..." The duo were in the town of Raque, the port town of merchants and traders...and the upcoming fishing competition. "There! There they are! Aren't they pretty?" She waved her hand at the dock, where rows upon rows of boats bobbed in the water. Big and small, grand and plain, boats of every size and shape and style were here. It seemed like all the fishermen of Clover Kingdom were participating in this event. The objective of the competition was simple: catch the biggest fish, and win a large sum of money.
"Ooo, look at that one!" Suna pointed to a certain ship, one that was larger than most of the small fishing boats. "Isn't that the Red Solaria? The one that belongs to that pirate lady?" She gave a little sigh. "She's so cool. I'd love to meet her in person... Hey, can we go closer?" Whether the man followed her or not, the sound mage dropped her hold on him and darted along ahead towards the ship, weaving left and right around curious bystanders who crowded the port area. As she neared the infamous ship, Suna could see the red-headed captain herself, talking to another tall figure.
"You'd ne'er be able to catch up, Smack." The deeply-tanned woman was leaning against one of the barrels, hips boldly cocked and a confident smirk on her lips.
"Yer wanna bet?" Amber eyes flashed as the Crimson Lion knight took out his cigar and spat on the ground. Then he wiped the spittle from his beard with the back of his hand and growled. "Ya don know who yer goin' 'gainst, Ver."
"Nay, I do, 'Ruthless Giant'. My Red Solaria can outspeed your bulky boy any day." The piratess tossed her hair behind her shoulders carelessly. Then her eyes landed on the blue-eyed elf standing by the side, intently watching on. "Even with an extra passenger. Hey sweetie," she now turned to Suna, whose mouth was starting to fall open, "Want a little boat ride? And close your mouth, lil codfish. It's just a ride."
Suna picked her jaw back up from the floor. "Really?" She clapped her hands and almost jumped in joy. "C-Can...can he come along, too?" She looked back to where she assumed the dark mage was, assuming he had caught up with her.
The woman's eyes gleamed, and she threw her head back and burst out in a hearty laugh. "Hear that, Smack? I'm bringin' along two passengers, and we're gonna outspeed you and your crew and bring back the biggest catch!" She waved the duo over. "Step lively, you two! The competition's jus' 'boutta start!"
A bright smile broke out on Suna's face. "Let's go, Hans!" And with that, she bounded up the plank and onto the ship. She could not help but admire the slim and sleek craft, the elegant yet rugged frame that was rumored to be the fastest vessel in all of the surrounding seas. There were some of the crew that cast curious, if not leery, looks at the young femme, but she was too caught up at the ocean view to notice.
"Isn't the ocean so pretty?" She murmured, totally enraptured at the sight of the rolling waves that gently rocked the ship. "Erm, Miss Verona—" Suna started, but was interrupted by the captain.
"Just cap'in, hon."
"Uh, captain, this is my first time on a ship." She admitted. "Is there anything we have to do?"
The lady pirate shook her head. "Me and the crew got it. But keep your eyes peeled! Might need your help later." She winked, then raised her voice. "Time to set sail, men! And don't let that royal brute catch up to us! We need to get to the good fishing spot before they do!"

“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
Once again, Hans was being pulled around another town. It wasn't against his will of course, but he did sort of wish that Suna would slow down. The Clover Kingdom was having another one of its big fishing competitions here in Raque, which meant a lot of fishermen, and of course boats!
The elf finally stopped, and gestured joyfully at the many boats down at the docks. "Yeah, I suppose they are." The merc answered. He himself wouldn't exactly call these boats 'pretty'. He just saw them all as well...boats. They all pretty much work the same way...But he still couldn't help, but to smile a little at how excited Suna was being. Seeing her like this was just too cute, and definitely worth coming out to some fishing competition to see her like this. "I can understand the appeal at least." the man said with a small teasing smirk.
If these various boats were replaced with swords...their roles would most likely have been reversed.
Suna was then at it again with her excitement, pointing over at one ship that really stood out from the rest. The Red Solaria, owned by the famous...or infamous piratess, Verona de la Rogue. Hans looked up at the ship, a bit more amused at it than the rest. He was familiar with that name, and ship since of course word gets around about people like Verona, especially in the places Hans usually hangs around at. He's a bit more surprised about Suna's excitement over her however. "Uh, sure. Didn't expect you to be a fan of pira-." Before he could finish, it seems like the elf was already off, heading towards the docks! Hans looked lost at first, but he started to chuckle lightly and shook his head before following behind.
Unlike Suna, Hans took a bit more time while he walked, looking around at the various boats. He saw many fishermen readying themselves for this competition. Catch the biggest fish, sounds simple enough. Hans of course knew how to fish, something he had to learn to help him survive on his own. The competition itself didn't really appeal to him...but the cash reward had a bit of his attention. But he didn't want to attempt anything since this is suppose to be a day for him and Suna.
Hans finally caught up to Suna, and with an eyebrow raised. The first person he saw besides the elf was none other than the piratess herself, Verona as well as another famous seafarer, Smack Caballero, a Crimson Lion Knight known to watch over the seas, and is probably Verona's biggest rival. It took the merc a second, but he finally noticed that man's ship was docked here as well, The Revenge of King Anton.
The merc didn't catch most of the conversation, and only arrived just as Suna gestured at the dark mage, volunteering him for something he wasn't aware. "Come along....where?" He looked at Suna questionably but immediately faced Verona as she started to laugh, throwing more banter towards Smack's way. "Uh..." Apparently, the couple were now going to board Verona's ship...and take part in all of this. He wanted to ask Suna to make sure he heard all of this correctly, but the elf had started to smile joyfully, telling her man to come on. With that, she darted up to the ship, leaving Hans speechless yet again. "...That girl." the dark mage muttered.
She could be a bit...overexcited at times...but it only made Hans like her more. Surprising, considering he use to find people like that annoying....Guess she really has changed him a little.
With a sigh followed by a small smile, Hans went into the ship right after Suna.
"Mmm, now why does that blue haired lass seem so familiar...?" Smack pondered to himself as he watched the couple and Verona board the ship. Being a Crimson Lion, Smack may have seen or heard about his current vice captain's pupil...but at the moment he was drawing blanks. "Well, whatever. Load up, men! We cannot let Verona n her lackeys get the better of us!" With that, Smack and his crew went aboard his ship as well.
Arriving onto the boat, Hans first looked over at Suna, and of course she was still having the time of her life, but then he immediately took notice of the curious eyes looking their way, that being Verona's crew. Some looked...interestingly towards Suna, while others gave Hans...less friendly glares. The merc did not falter however, being use to these sorts of looks, whether from nobles or other sketchy folks. In fact, he gave a bit of a glare back towards them, shifting his body in a way that the others could see the dark greatsword strapped to his back...but this only further challenged the rugged looking crew members instead of intimidating them.
As Suna and Verona started to talk with each other, Hans was just about to make his way over to them until he heard heavy footsteps coming his way. "Oi, boy." Hans turned around to see a huge, bulky looking bald, bearded male, wearing a typical pirate's attire. The man was definitely over six feet that's for sure. "You think you can just board this ship an act like yer hot stuff?" the man asked, glaring at Hans. "...I'm just here to fish." Apparently.
Hans glared back at the towering man, not budging an inch. The two stared each other down...oozing with silent cockiness....and testosterone.
It was then that Verona called out to her crew as she finished speaking with Suna, causing the large man to turn his attention away from Hans to address her along with the rest of the crew.
"AYE AYE, CAP'N!!"
The crew all said in near union before attending to their duties. The bald guy was just about to do the same before giving Hans one more glance. "Then you betta catch the biggest damn fish out there...or you'll have ta answer ta "Back Breaker" Joe." The man said, pointing at himself before walking off. Hans quietly watched the man walk off before giving a scoff, and looked over to Verona and Suna.
"Once you've found the spot...I'll do the fishing." Hans declared, a blend of confidence while also trying to remain cool as he approached the two women.
Even someone like Hans isn't above silly little manly challenges...when pushed hard enough.

Suna was so caught up talking with the captain, she did not notice the brief but crackling exchange between the mercenary and one of the big burly crewmates. That is, until the red-haired captain bellowed out her orders. She cocked her head a little as she noticed Hans standing there, all tall and proud and cocky. He also seemed...peculiarly determined. What did she miss?
"Once you've found the spot...I'll do the fishing."
Unlike Suna’s surprised facial expression, Verona burst out laughing. "That you will, boy! Only," she waved a hand at her crew, "you’ll ‘ave some stiff competition with my men! But we have plenty of fishing rods for all ‘o us, so it’s ev’ry man or woman for themselves!" Her one green eye shone with a fighter’s spirit. "I’ll be fishin’ myself, so stay on yer toes!"
The elf’s eyes widened even further. She had not expected to actually participate in the fishing competition, but it looked like she would be, after all. The captain did not seem like the type to take ‘no’ for an answer, nor would she want to cross her on that. As the ship quickly pulled away from the port, Suna had to grab onto the sides of the boat to steady herself. She was a forest dweller, not a seafarer. Thus, she had no sea legs to speak of. At least she is not getting seasick, thankfully. That would have been terrible, not to mention embarrassing.
Just like the rumors said—which she could now confirm were not rumors—the Red Solaria was fast. Incredibly fast. The Revenge of King Anton, that enormous battleship which they were competing against, had barely started pulling out of the harbor when they were already well on their way towards the favored fishing spot.
Suna was standing by the side, by the railings, and admiring the vast sea before them. "Wow..." She breathed, gazing down at the waves before her. All those shades of blues and greens fading into black and outlined with whites, it was like a living painting. They were well away from the harbor, the shore but a faint dot in the horizon. But now they were nearing an island of sorts, but did not head towards it. Instead, they sailed past it, a few fathoms out.
"Heave to!" The captain was shouting. Immediately the men stopped whatever they were doing and prepared to let down the anchor. They had apparently arrived at the fishing spot, but was followed closely by the competitor warship. "Step lively, men! That cog is ‘ere! Get out them poles and start fishing!" Then she grumbled underneath her breath. "Would’ve been much easier if we could cast a whole net for a catch..."
The blue-haired elf soon found herself with a fishing rod in her hands and seated next to one of the crewmates. Like the others, he was dressed in the typical pirate fashion, and had a bandana wrapped around his head. However, he looked to be an older man, and paid her no mind. In fact, as soon as he cast his line, promptly laid his head against the rod and fell asleep, snoring away in fitful bursts. Suna, not knowing how fishing works, had jumped up and reeled in at every little wiggle she felt from her line. The other sailors who caught sight of her antics had different reactions.
"Sit still, landlubber! Fish ain’t gonna come bitin’ if yer so nervous!"
"Yer cute. Ar’ ya a cracked Jenny?"
"Don’t move so much, girl! Yer scarin’ away all the fish!"
"Sorry, sorry!" She apologized, ducking her head. She just hoped that Hans was having better luck than her.

“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
Even with Verona's hardy laugh, Hans did not look phased at all! Something about that Joe guy rubbed the merc the wrong way....and now, he felt the need to prove himself. "I just hope that they can all keep up." With him that is. The dark mage was going to have to compete against many sailors in this competition, not just on this ship, but other ships as well...but he seemed more interested in beating that brute of a bald man.
Suna appeared to be surprised both by Hans and the fact that she will be taking part in this as well, but the merc did not notice as he was too busy glaring over at Joe while he and the other crew members prepared the ship and such.
With the boat starting to leave the docks, Hans' body wobbled a bit at the sudden movement, but he managed to catch himself without the need of holding onto something. The merc turned to see how his lady was fairing, and saw that she was hanging on to the side of the ship. A bit concerned, Hans walked over to her side, and placed a hand on the elf's back. "You okay?" He asked, but the woman appeared to be enjoying the view of the ocean more instead of suffering from sea sickness. Hans smiled a little and looked out to the sea as well, slowly rubbing the sound mage's back. "Yeah. It's...nice, and uh...blue....like your eyes." The merc claimed, fumbling a bit with his attempt at flirting. He then cleared his throat, in a feeble attempt to forget how...unsatisfying that was.
The merc should really talk with his heart more.
As the couple continued to look out into the distance, Joe was at another part of the ship, watching the two mages with an eyebrow raised...
As time passed...well not that much considering how fast this ship is, Verona ordered her crew to lower the anchor by an island. This appeared to be their destination, the crew's desired fishing spot. They didn't appear to be the only ones who chose this area as Smack's boat had managed to arrive afterwards, pulling up next to Verona's own with a bit of distance between them. The Crimson Lion seafarer looked confidently over towards his rival's ship with a challenging grin. "Ahoy ye scurvy dog!" Smack yelled out, referring to Verona. "Ya think yer the only one who knows about these here waters!?" The man chuckled before walking back towards his crew. "Prepare the nets, men. That blasted wench and her landlubbers will not make a fool outta me this time."
Once Hans was handed his fishing rod, the dark mage frowned a bit before looking over at Smack's ship. He kinda wished that he had a net instead since he preferred them over fishing rods whenever he needed to fish. Looks like he's going to have to make do with this.
Unfortunately, Hans was unaware of Suna's fishing issues since the man placed himself on the other side of the ship...but it was probably for the best both so he could focus...and for the crew's sake...
Hans placed a bait he got from a nearby bucket and placed it on the hook of the rod. Taking a deep breathe, the man threw the rod back towards him then launched it forward, the line going out far until the hook landed into the water with a little splash made by the bobber. Unlike some of the crew people who were sitting down or talking among themselves while fishing, Hans focused solely on the water in front of him, not taking his eyes off of the bobber. This sort of thing requires patience, something that Hans has a lot of.
Then he heard those familiar footsteps marching towards him...
Joe made his way to Hans' side, and picked up a crew mate who was trying to fish by the collar, and tossed him to the side with a yelp so he could take his place next to the concentrating merc. Hans knew that he was there, but refused to acknowledge him so he could remain focus. "Hmph, you were standing so still, I thought ye were taking a caulk." Joe claimed...but Hans remained silent. The bald man's cocky grin formed into an annoyed frown, and with a scoff he threw his fishing line in as well. "I'm not going to be done in by some scrawny little land dweller. Don't take it too personally once I catch ourselves thee winning fish." Joe claimed...but still not a peep from Hans. "Oi lad, I'm talkin to ya ere!" The man yelled, sounding a lot more aggressive. "I'm fishing..." Hans finally spoke up, not sounding at all phased by the bald man.
"Tch whatever..." With that, Joe's bobber had started to bounce, and with that a huge grin appeared on his face. "Aye, you see that, boy!? I've already gotta bite, and she's a feisty one!" The bald male fought a bit with the fish on the other end, but managed to slowly reel it up, and the result was...
....disappointing.
Appearing completely dumbfounded and left speechless, Joe couldn't get his eyes of his catch. A tiny fish...the tiniest of them all even. Some of the other pirates who caught a look at this couldn't help but crack up a little, but didn't dare break into laughter...or else they'd find themselves getting broken. Joe glared angrily around himself then to Hans who...was still focusing on his own fishing. "Piece of shi-"
Now Hans' bobber started to bounce, and whatever it was...it was no joke.
The bobber fell completely into the water, and more of the line was starting to get pulled down. Suddenly, the merc found himself being jerked forward, the side of the ship stopping him from falling over! The dark mage gritted his teeth as he tried to fight back, putting his muscles to work as he started to slowly move backwards. Both Joe, and the crew members on his side watched dramatically as this struggle continued. The rod appeared to be on the verge of breaking...but with one final pull, Hans was able to win this little tug of war, falling onto his back in the process!
A shadow briefly hovered over the merc before whatever casting it landed hard beside the dark mage, enough to shake the ship a little.
The there it was, some sort of swordfish....but it was stupidly huge...huger than the six foot plus tall Joe.
"Shiver me timbers, look at the size o that!"
"It's bigger than ol Joe!"
"Did this landlubber really reel this in!?"
"This has got to be a winner. Oi, someone get the cap'n!"
As Hans started to get some praise as well as assistance to get back up on his feet, Joe looked on in pure shock, staring down at the bouncing fish before looking over to Hans which then his stare would turn into a glare, his fists balling up....all while Hans managed to glance his way...with a subtle smirk.
"That toothpick lookin bastard..."

A hand on her back. Suna started from her daze and whirled around, then relaxed when her eyes met a pair of familiar ones. "Yes, I’m okay." Her content smile was back on her face, and only grew when she felt his warm hand rubbing her back. "Just admiring the view. I’ve never seen the sea from a ship before. It’s bigger than I thought! It’s kind of like the forest...I can’t see the end of it no matter how high I climb..."
"Yeah. It's...nice, and uh...blue...like your eyes."
If the mercenary was a beginner at flirting, the elf was also a beginner at receiving compliments. "W-We’re in public..." Pink tinged the poor girl’s face, despite her struggle to keep it under control. Not like there was anything wrong or inappropriate with his comment—she just could not think of anything else to say at the moment in response to that. Honestly, a simple ‘thank you’ would have suffice, but for that split second, her brain had drawn a blank. She did, however, managed to keep her tone more under control, though her reddened face gave her real thoughts away.
All this time, the couple was being watched and observed, not just by the bald man, but also by the other crewmates. Some cast furtive glances, some smirked, some openly stared, and one muttered "Get a room, you two." Suna, at least, did not notice those reactions. But now they were fishing, and she had no idea what she was doing. Which was precisely what she should be doing: not doing anything. She tried waiting quietly, but nothing. Not even a nibble.
Suna sighed. She had all the patience in the world when it came to practicing her music, but this? Sitting here for hours on end without moving felt so unproductive. At least, it felt like hours, but it could have been not only half an hour. Unfortunately, patience in one area did not necessarily translate to patience in another area. She should have learned from the dozing man sitting next to her. Honestly, it was quite a feat, and she did not know how he could fall asleep sitting up and leaning against his fishing rod like that. A different type of skill, she supposed.
Thankfully, her restlessness was interrupted by some commotion on the other side of the ship. She twisted her body around to see the big man come over and dispose of the man sitting next to Hans. She would have been concerned, but she knew the dark mage could handle himself in a fight. Besides, there was no place for a woman’s interference when it came to a challenge between two men. At least, that was what she supposed it was. Perhaps they were also competing against each other on landing the biggest fish?
Her guesses were confirmed when the burly sailor started shouting and whatnot about his catch. Until he reeled it in. She giggled as the rest of the crew crackled out a few strangled snorts of laughter. Of course, it would be a death wish if someone actually burst out in raucous laughter at the size of his fish, but still.
Then Hans, who had sat there unperturbed and patient all this time, started reeling in his line. Or rather, the line pulling him down towards the sea. Suna bolted upright to her feet, knocking over her rod in the process, and it hit the man’s shoulder beside her in a chain effect. The old sailor snorted and opened one eye.
"Sorry, sorry!" The female apologized quickly, but her eyes were still on the struggling Hans on the other side of the deck. The disgruntled man only shrugged, grumbled something underneath his breath, and fell back asleep. Hans appeared to be in a tug of war with his catch. Whatever it was, it must be something big, as he seemed to be actually struggling. Suna’s hands were in fists, in a silent chant and prayer that the line would not break.
Then with one final pull, the fish was tugged up and onto the boat! She was not the only one with her mouth gaped open. Even Verona, who had taken up her spot at the head of the ship, was up on her feet and looking down at the flopping swordfish in amazement. It was a hefty one, all right, and the crew was up in spirits about it. There were also whistles of admiration, broken in by enthusiastic clapping from the elf—whose refined behavior stood in stark contrast to the rugged personalities of the crew.
"Well, well..." The red-haired piratess drawled, "I doubt anyone else is gonna reel in a bigger catch than this!" She walked on over to the mercenary and gave him a whooping ‘pat’ on his back. "Ya show promise, laddie! Now," her one emerald eyes glittered. "I do believe ya owe me a part o’ that reward loot! The transportation fee, ye?"
