Suna had made her way over to the ‘bosun,’ who was apparently the ship’s caretaker of some sort. The man was standing in a corner and looking down at a pile of rope next to the anchor.
"The quartermaster sent me here to help you?" She said timidly, her voice going up to a question. Her hands were clasped in front of her, the very mark of submission and uncertainty.
The man looked up at her, his expression unreadable. Suna fought the urge to squirm under his gaze. After a few moments of scrutiny, waved her closer.
"Check for wear ‘n tear." He said finally, and crouched down to show her the ropes...literally. That was the only thing she heard from him. The next few moments he only ran through the length of the ropes, silently assessing them and grunting in displeasure when he found a frayed spot. He would mark it and put it aside, presumably to fix them later on.
After a minute or two, the elf got a pretty good idea of what to look for, and started looking through another coil of rope. The two wordlessly worked together, and Suna had to admit, it was quite a relaxing job. All it required was patience and a sharp eye. Who knew when one’s life would depend on this very twisted piece of twine?
Then a shadow fell over her, and the elf snapped up to see the red-haired captain smirking down at her.
"Don’ git too comfortable around ‘im, lass," Verona raised an eyebrow at the boatswain.
"Crookey ‘ere can break ya once ‘e starts having ya swab the decks!" She laughed aloud before leaving to go back to the wheel and see how the mercenary was doing at steering.
Suna cocked her head to the side, wondering at her words. She was not used to hard labor, that much was certain, but has she not undergone brutal training, despite her being weak physically and mentally? She had come out stronger, so this was nothing different. At least, it should not be, right? She would have thought more, if not for the changes in weather.
The sky had begun to grow a little darker, and the waves began to pick up. Suna grabbed onto the side of the boat when it began to rock and shudder more violently. The waves were growing bigger, coming in higher, and she could taste the salty sting of sea spray.
Crookey, the boatswain she was working with, now threw her a coil of rope, the one he had just looked at. She caught it.
"What?" She asked, confusion written all over her face. He made a motion of tying it around his waist, then pointed to the main mast beam.
Oh... Realization dawned on her, and she quickly followed his motions, tying it around her waist before tying the other end to the beam holding the main sail up. Such a considerate act of kindness, since he likely knew she had no sea legs, and would probably just fall over the side of the railing at any sudden motion.
She twisted her head around, searching for the dark mage. Ah, there he was, standing at the wheel with the quartermaster and Verona. He was in good hands, she would not need to worry about him. She threw him a quick smile of encouragement. Whether it was his first time or not, he looked so natural and at ease there, at least from her perspective. Well, he
was a mercenary, so he was bound to have some varying experiences. What else has he done before?
All around her, the pirates were scrambling around with their duties, rushing and shouting at each other. She could hear Verona’s voice somewhere, but the wind was picking up and distorting her words. However, she did catch a few words, something about faith and recruits. But now the rain was beginning to fall in torrents, and it was making the deck very wet and slippery. Darkness was closing in, and she felt a tinge of fear. However, she really did not need to worry, as she was more than capable hands.
Nonetheless, as this was her first time witnessing a storm at sea, it did not stop her from worrying a little. They were at the mercy of the waves, and on more than one occasion, the waves tossed the ship around like a toy sailboat. Suna had stepped to the side, making sure she did not get in the way of anyone. She did not know much about sailing a ship through a storm, but perhaps she could do something about this rain.
The blue-haired femme released her blue aura, forming the semi-circle dome for
Tremolo. However, she did not release any of her sound magic within it, only formed the dome as a ‘shell’ around the ship so it would hold off on the rain. She may not be steering the boat directly, but at least she could help the crew by keeping the rain off their back. Hopefully it would also provide some vision.
As the
Red Solaria was thrashed and battered around by the rough waves, the elf kept her aura dome steady. She did crane her head around to look behind her, at Hans who was controlling the rudder. Whatever Verona was teaching him, it seemed to be working. Even though they were thrown left and right, somehow they were sailing somewhat straight? As much as she could tell, at least, though they could be going in circles and this untrained seafarer knew none the better.
At last, the storm finally began to abate and lessen, and before she knew it, they had sailed out of its turbulent embrace. Suna let out a breath she did not know she had been holding, and dissolved her aura dome. Regardless of whether it actually helped or not, she did not feel like she had been useless. The sea-hardened men around her were muttering as they checked for any damages, and found only a few minor ones. She untied the rope around her waist and smiled gratefully at the boatswain.
"Thank you." He only grunted in response before wrapping the rope up into a neat coil.
Then she heard Verona’s praise to Hans...and then to her. Suna shrugged her shoulders modestly. She honestly did not do much—the dark mage was the one who did the actual steering. Nonetheless, she flashed him up a thumbs up. He did his part well, now if only she could keep up with him…
Upon hearing the captain’s little bet, she could only shake her head a little. Of course, everything was involved in a bet or exchange of sorts, but she supposed that was just the type of life they held. Must find some sort of entertainment while drifting about for days at sea, right? But now they were sailing safely away from the storm, and all was well.
Well, not quite, as they would soon find out...

As her sound ricochets within the confined area, those caught in the spell will suffer intermediate damage by the bouncing sound waves and will have their speed debuffed by -5 m/s, while she is buffed by +4 Power. This AoE spell may follow the specified target. Restraining magic naturally cuts its targets’ allotted spell usages by half. Following ammo rules, she may form another dome for every 30 Control she has, as long as the spell is sustained.
