Suna had thought they were out of danger, after Hans had steered the Red Solaria out of the storm. She thought. The seas were calm once more, and the waves had smoothed out to be just a lulling ebb. Little did she know that they were about to run into more than just a natural enemy of the seas. But at the moment, the elf heard the tell-tale footsteps before she felt the heavy pat on the back, which her slight frame took like a bent reed.
"How ‘re ya enjoying yer lil boat ride, lassie?"
Verona’s voice, though it was not exactly booming, was very close to it. "Er...I’m enjoying the view." She said slowly, a little hesitant but still honest. Truth be told, it was more than she had signed up for. Well, she had not signed up for anything, but Fate certainly had a way of throwing her in the most unique and interesting of situations. Who would have thought that a little curiosity and a fishing competition would ripple out into such a wave of events?
"The view?" Verona nearly doubled over and choked at that response. "Sweetie, if ya want a view, ye should go up to the crow’s nest!" She jerked her chin up at the direction of the ship’s highest vantage point. "Dat is, if ye ain’t scared of heights!"
"No, no, heights are nothing to me." She shook her head and held her chin up proudly at the taunting dare. "Climbing trees is my specialty."
"Aye, a human monkey, in other words." The red-haired woman chortled, then waved her hand at the rigging. "Go ahead! Give a shout if ye see a mermaid or hear a siren." She winked at her before shouting some orders at her crew and making her way towards the wheel, where either the quartermaster or Hans was steering.
So the captain already figured out her magic elements already? Strange, as she has not yet used any of her sound magic yet...there might be more to the piratess then what meets the eye. Regardless, Suna had immediately scrambled over to the main rigging and started climbing up the rope ladders to get to the crow’s nest. The latter really was nothing more than a circular enclosed platform where one could stand or sit in, designed as a watchpost. Oh, but the view from there!
The blue-eyed maiden drank it all in greedily. Instead of the familiar canopies and spread of emerald leaves, she beheld the glimmering azure shades of the sea. Looking down, she spied the crew members moving about in their duties, and gave the dark mage an excited wave. Whether he happened to see it was a different matter, but she was completely captivated and in love at her new favorite spot on the ship.
That storm had left her a little shaken, but she felt all right now, seeing that the danger was past and the crew and boat seemed none the worse for wear. She figured that those types of storms must be a normal occurrence for them. Seeing how quickly they fell back to their usual mannerisms and jolly behavior eased her worries. Perhaps she was too concerned over nothing.
For a few minutes, she just sat there and stared in contentment over the vast expanse of water. It was so peaceful, so quiet up there in her lookout point. From her high vantage point, she felt like she could almost touch the clouds. Almost. Clear eyes strained to see the end of the horizon line, but it just kept going and going. It was sort of like the Forest, although her past home did have its boundaries. The seas were definitely bigger than her childhood territory, though.
But then she spied a dark dot in the distance. "Huh?" She blinked again. No, it was not her imagination. Something was there. Was it land? Or a little island? She doubted there would be any random spots of land in this part of the sea, but then again, she could very likely be wrong. If not land, then what is it? A large flock of seagulls? No, it could not be. Again, there was no land nearby. It would not make sense for a flock of birds to be flying where they had no place to land or rest. A few more moments passed. It was coming closer, and now she could make out the outline of...
"Captain?" She called down. "I spy another ship!"
The redhead seemed to mutter something underneath her breath. "There’s a spyglass ‘neath the seat. Can ye see the flag?"
Suna leapt up from the seat and pulled aside one of the sliding wood pieces to reveal some rope, flags of various colors, and the monoscope. Taking the latter out, she pulled it out and looked through the glass. "It’s black, and has no designs on it!" She called out.
"Sickness, or death on board." Verona put her hands on her hips, her mind seeming to work out their next moves quickly. "Best ta stay away from that one...but let’s wait and see it closer. I’ve a suspicion, but keep us updated, lass!" Then she strode off, perhaps to the direction of where Hans was currently at.
Suna kept the monoscope trained on the approaching ship, but as it came closer, she realized that there was something very wrong with it. "Where’s the crew?" She muttered to herself. "Where is everyone?" She moved the looking glass towards where she assumed the wheel was. "There’s no one steering..." Then she caught a flash of a blade. It was only a second, but she saw it from the corner of her vision, from within a large pile of ropes. A seemingly abandoned ship. That could not be right...that could only mean...
"A surprise attack!" She shouted down from the crow’s nest. "The crew is hiding!"
"Mus’ be that ‘ol dog Killiam Wyd." Verona immediately took charge, and filled out to become larger than life. Or maybe it was just her charismatic aura. "All hands on deck! Git yer arms, men! We’s about ta fight!"
“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
The storm felt like a distant memory at this point, or at least to the pirates aboard this ship. The crew went back to doing the usual while some of them were at work, mopping up the water from that rain. Hans was still up at the wheel, his hands gripping onto each end of it. He watched the Quartermaster bark orders to some of the crew for a bit and then turned his attention away from them and out forward.
With the storm aside, it all felt pleasant now, enough to make the dark mage relax a bit. Steering a ship seems like a lot of work, but the man was getting a hang of it.
Hearing the sounds of seagulls squawking, Hans looked up to the skies which only has a few lingering clouds. He watched as those birds flew past without a care in the world. Two of them even decided to swoop down and try to snag a bite out of the sandwich that a certain bald-headed grumpy pirate was trying to eat. "Ayye, bug off ye feathered pests!" Ol' "Backbreaker" Joe yelled out as he attempted to shoo them away with his free hand...only to cause his sandwich to fall to the ground. A look of sheer disbelief was on the man's face now as he watched his poor sandwich lying there on the floor. He had half a mind to just pick it up and continue eating...but then the seagulls got to it, fighting over the food while another decided to land on the man's hairless head, and began squawking. Crewmates that witnessed this couldn't contain themselves and start to chuckle, Hans snickering a bit as well.
"I swear that guy an' mother nature just don't get along." A feminine voice said, causing Hans to shift his attention to the source. It was the captain of this ship, Verona who was now making her way to the merc but with her eyes still set on Joe. "Verona?" Hans said, causing the piratess to look over to him and shake her head. "That's "Cap'n" ta ya." she said, placing a hand on her hip. "Whether yer one of mine or not, ya still have ta show me some respect while aboard me ship." she added with a wink and a teasing grin. "Hmm, right." was all Hans could think of to say with a light nod. The woman let out a sigh and started to pat the merc on the back.
"Don't be so tense, lad it was only a wee jest! Maybe I need ta get ya a couple more mugs of rum to loosen ye up some." Verona added, laughing a bit. "Aye, but I betcha she wouldn't be too thrilled about that." Verona said, gesturing up at the crow's nest. Hans blinked before looking up to see that Suna was actually up there, appearing to be looking around rather excitingly before looking over to Hans, giving the man a joyful wave! Hans couldn't help, but smile a bit at that, and shyly raised his hand up in return. "That lass is a keeper." Verona said, causing Hans to look over at the piratess' grinning face. He nearly forgot she was there and started blush lightly in embarrassment, quickly placing his hand back on the wheel. "Ya better continue ta treat her right, ya hear?" the captain added. "She may be a tad rough around the edges now, but her spirit be fierce. That lass is gonna go far."
Hans was now looking up at Suna once again who seemed to be occupied again. "Yeah..." The merc isn't much for words, but the look on his face alone was enough for Verona to tell that he took what she said to heart.
Suna then called down to Verona...apparently spying another ship?
"Hm?" With an eyebrow raised, Hans looked over to where Suna was looking and tried to spot this ship as well while the captain spoke to her. Hans was able to see it, but barely. It was so far, but at the pace and direction this ship was going, they would soon approach it.
After getting information on the flag from the elf, Verona gestured for the Quartermaster to come back up and take control of the wheel, Hans giving a nod before backing away from the wheel and walking over to the captain. She wanted to avoid this ship apparently, but keep an eye on it. The ship was drawing closer, and closer with almost everyone aboard Verona's ship remaining quiet, waiting to see what will happen.
Then Suna started to claim that there was no one aboard the ship, causing some of the pirates to talk among themselves. Hans furrowed his brows and continued to eye the seemingly empty ship. The merc was new to the seas...but this right here felt all too familiar. "This isn't right..." Was all Hans would say before slowly bringing his hand over to the handle of his greatsword.
"A surprise attack! The crew is hiding!"
Suna shouted out which was enough for Hans to grip the hilt of his sword and unsheathe it. Verona was ready as well it seems, summoning her grimoire and preparing herself, apparently knowing who might be behind this!
"All hands on deck! Git yer arms, men! We’s about ta fight!"
As Verona said this, the other ship pulled up beside her own, and planks made of wood magic appeared, connecting the two ships together! Then, enemy pirates had risen from their hiding spots with swords in hand, and grimoires as well! With a battle cry, they all ran across the planks with their swords raised up. Verona's crew was prepared as well, wielding similar weapons and grimoires of their own!
A battle has now broken out with the clashing of blades and firing of various magical spells being heard, all while the man in charge of the enemy pirates casually walked down one of the planks. Killiam Wyd is his name....and he's no pushover.
"Bring em all down, men! That wench will not be walking outta this one alive!" he claimed with a cocky laugh. A watery aura surrounded him as his grimoire started to glow. He lifted an approaching member of Verona's crew off of their feet and threw them overboard before continuing his walk.
"Tch, Wyd...." She was now making her way to the opposing captain, looking back at Hans and up to Suna along the way. "Aye get a move on you two! This is your fight as well!" she said with a smirk. Hans was already prepared, but the man nodded and ran over to where some of the fighting was happening!
Four of the enemy pirates had two of Verona's crew backed against a corner! They were about to finish those two until Hans rushed one of the four pirates and bashed them at the back of their head with his sword's hilt, knocking the poor guy clean out! Taken by surprise by this, the remaining three couldn't react in time and another one took a slash to the side from the merc's sword, making him fall over instantly! The remaining two then tried to rush Hans, one firing a blast of fire magic while another fired shards of iron! Hans' grimoire then rose to his side and opened up with a sinister dark glow around it. "Black Hole." is what he said before raising a palm up, summoning a black hole in front of him to absorb those spells! The merc then took advantage of these pirates' shocked reactions to slice them both down with his sword one at a time!
Four of them were down now and those two ally pirates were saved. Verona managed to witness a bit of this and smirked. "Interesting." she said as her eyes shifted to the clovers on the merc's book.
Still, the battle was not over and it continued to rage....Hopefully Suna was doing well on her end.

From up on her lofty perch, Suna could see everything. The vast expanse of sky and sea and everything in between. But now, the momentary calm on the ship had disappeared into a flurry of high tensions and live actions. Even as the other ship was pulling up next to the piratess’ ship, the sound mage had hummed softly underneath her breath, and as the pitch centered, her Celtic harp materialized in front of her. She adjusted it to its proper position, ready to strike at a moment’s notice.
As of late, she had not been using her harp as much as she used to. It was because she was starting to expand on her sound magic, and being able to control it better without use of a conductor. There was still one element of her magic she had yet to master, and the only obstacle to that was herself. But that was something to be dealt with at another time. For now, she had to concentrate on doing her part. Verona had said it was their fight as well as the crew’s. But by golly, would they fight!
As the enemy pirates clambered onto the Red Solaria, the elf’s fingers danced across the strings for her Rallentando spell. As three of the enemies stepped foot onto the wood magic planks in an attempt to board their ship, thick strands of sound magic appeared from underneath their feet, wrapping themselves around their legs and holding them firmly in place. It had been so fast, it had stopped their running momentum. Right before they lost their balance and fell off the side into the water down below, Suna also sapped two individuals of their mana to replenish her own. Their mana tasted so strange and foreign. Almost salty...
"Crow’s nest! Capture the minstrel!"
Apparently her music had been noticed, and for whatever reason, they were now looking up at her in her high and advantageous point. Stopping her music, the elf backed up, out of sight. Already she could feel her platform swaying a little, from someone climbing up to the platform. Her aura leapt to her hand to form her Crescendo ring. She spied a gloved hand coming above the platform railing, then another, and then a curly-haired pirate with a misshapen nose.
Just as he attempted to throw his leg over the railing and lunge for her, she yelped and threw the ring at his face. "Get back!" It burst out and knocked him back...and over the railing. Suna hurried to look over the side, and saw the body down on the deck, unmoving. She dearly hoped she did not kill the man...but at least he was not a problem anymore. But there were more pirates though. They had invaded and swarmed onto their ship quickly.
Her attention was interrupted by yet another pirate climbing his way up to the crow’s nest. Again she formed another ring and threw it down at him. However, this pirate had seemed to be ready for it, because he used his summoned copper sword to block the exploding aura damage. With a leery smirk, he continued his ascent upwards. Like she would let him just climb up here.
Capriccio. This time, she formed her aura into little flint-like arrowheads that hung in midair, right above the ascending enemy. Just as he was about to reach her platform, the female struck quick and accented notes on her harp, making those arrowheads fall down onto the enemy like hail. She saw him try to block them with his sword, but there were just too many of them. They kept raining down on him, obscuring his vision. As he tried to wave them away and block them using his arm, he lost his hold on the rigging. With a shout, he flailed and fell backwards, down to the deck to join his other downed comrade.
Suna winced. It was not a pretty sight, but she needed to focus and keep going. For a brief moment, she searched out for her dark-haired mage. Ah, there he was. He was doing just fine, fighting like the trained mercenary he was. She really did not need to worry about him, since he was more than able to hold his own in a fight, even against multiple enemies. There was Verona as well, who was also locked in an intense sword fight of her own with the enemy captain.
She unsummoned her harp back into her grimoire. Throwing her legs over the side, she dropped down onto the rigging and started to climb down. She would be of more help if she was down there fighting with them. From the corner of her, she saw one of Verona’s men about to be slashed open by an enemy pirate. Immediately her aura swirled into her rapier-like sword Cadenza. Her cry attracted the enemy’s attention, and he had paused to look up at the new attacker. She leapt forward and lunged at the enemy, and thus began her first real sword fight...
Battle Notes: Dealt with three enemy pirates with Rallentando, one with Crescendo, one with Capriccio; seven enemy pirates and captain remaining
- Cast Rallentando, -30 mana - Cast Crescendo, -20 mana - Cast Capriccio, -10 mana - Cast Cadenza, -20 mana - Vampiric Magic [2/2], +20 mana - Quick Charger & IC Regen, +30 mana
Elemental Type: Sound Rank & Spell Type: Senior | Restraining Range & Speed: 80m | 40m/s Mana Cost: 30 | 15 Stats Effected: -10 m/s, -10 mana regen Applicable Perks: Tightly Bound, Vampiric Magic Description: As Suna performs a slow piece, thick strands of sound magic will appear from underneath her target's feet and wrap themselves around their legs to bind and slow movement speed by -10 m/s. Following ammo rules, she may choose to restrain another target for every 30 Control she has. Tightly Bound automatically deals intermediate damage to all those caught in the spell. Restraining magic naturally binds a mage's grimoire and their allotted spell usages by half per post, and this senior spell also interrupts their mana regen by -10. This spell will dissolve when dealt damage equal or above the spell's rank, according to clashing rules.
Elemental Type: Pure Aura Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate | Attack Creation Range & Speed: 40m | 20 m/s Mana Cost: 20 | 10 Stats Effected: +4 Power Applicable Perks: Apex Predator Description: Suna shapes her pure aura into a silver topaz-set ring that may be worn by herself or the target of choice, increasing the wearer's power stat by +4. If the ring is thrown at an enemy, it will burst in a singular aura explosion and deal intermediate damage to its target. Additional targets are buffed with +2 Power. Apex Predator gives an additional +3 Power stack-able buff caps after 5 attacks or +15. Buffed allies must stay within the spell's range, otherwise the ring will dissipate.
Elemental Type: Sound & Pure Aura Rank & Spell Type: Junior | Attack Creation Range & Speed: 10m | 10m/s (AoE) Mana Cost: 10 | 5 Stats Effected: +2 Power Applicable Perks: Apex Predator Description: To activate this attack spell, Suna will strike up a quick series of notes, loud and sharp like the patter of winter hail. Her pure aura will morph into white flint-like arrowheads (2in by 3in) that hangs above the enemy, and her sound will make those arrowheads fall down in an circular area of 10 meters. The density of falling arrowheads will depend on her ability to play in polyphony, a musical texture consisting of two or more simultaneous lines of independent melodies, as opposed to just one dominant melodic voice.
To sustain the barrage, Suna must keep her tempo above vivace (lively and brisk tempo, 156–176 bpm) and play a series of tremolos, which is repeating a specific note or notes as rapidly as possible to produce a quivering effect. Apex Predator gives this spell an additional +3 power stack-able buff caps after 5 attacks or +15 to the enemy. At Suna's current junior level, it cannot be sustained for more than three motifs (three posts, not including the post when the spell is cast); then the piece must be started again from the beginning and the spell must be recast.
This spell is not limited to which instrument she uses, it is only a musical form type.
[Optional] Summoning An Instrument: If Suna does not already have an instrument on hand, she may summon her guzheng by humming a G (392hz). Her guzheng is 64"x12.6" / 162x32cm.
Elemental Type: Pure Aura Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate | Attack Creation Range & Speed: Self Mana Cost: 20 | 10 Stats Effected: +4 Power Applicable Perks: Apex Predator Description: Suna shapes her aura into a lightweight, rapier-like sword that is 45" / 1.1m long, its blade 40" / 1m in length and 1" / 2.5cm in width, weighing 2 lb / 0.9 kg. Its sharp blade is narrow and two-edged, and its handle is embellished with ornate swirling designs and a single indigo crystal for accent. This weapon is able to deal intermediate damage to its opponents, and Apex Predator gives an additional +3 Power stack-able buff caps after 5 attacks or +15. It will dissolve when broken by a higher-tiered spell or weapon.
“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
The enemy pirate's numbers were starting to dwindle, but they were still going strong! Wyd didn't seem all too bothered about this as well. These pirates appeared to be ready to fight even if it costs them their lives. That sort of cockiness can be respected, but it was also foolish.
After taking down some of the pirates on his end, Hans raised his black hole spell into the air, letting it linger there until needed again. "You guys alright?" Hans asked, looking over at the two friendly pirates he had saved. "Argh, tis just a flesh wound. We are still good ta fight!" one of the pirates said as the other nodded in agreement. Giving a nod as well, Hans watched as those two got back to their feet and ran back into the fray! As he continued to watch those two, Hans caught a glimpse of Suna coming down from the crow's nest and lunging at one of the enemy pirates with magical rapier in hand in an attempt to rescue a friendly.
The dark mage took notice of some of the already downed bodies around the elf's area and smirked a little. It was obvious at this point that he didn't need to worry about his sound mage at this point. She's clearly capable of holding her own...which is part of the reason why Hans has fallen for her. Strength is attractive after all, or at least in Hans' eyes.
But then, the merc's dark eyes set upon another one of Wyd's pirates who appeared to summon a bow and arrow made of lightning magic, and it was aimed at Suna! Hans has confidence that the sound mage could react to this attempted sneak attack, but still...he couldn't help but not want to take any chances. He was now sprinting over to where they were, and as he did the merc looked back up at his lingering black hole. With a gesture of his hand, he took control of the spell again, and sent it down in front of the enemy pirate just in time as the lightning arrow was fired! Instead of hitting its intended target, the arrow was broken apart and swallowed by the black hole. The lightning pirate furrowed his brows, confusingly looking at the black hole. Hans once again rose the spell back up to the sky to reveal himself since he was now standing behind it, and with his back towards Suna's.
The lightning mage wasn't finished yet however and started to fire a barrage of lightning bolts at Hans. With both hands gripped tightly onto the hilt of his greatsword, Hans was able to continually swing his blade, slicing through every bolt that came his way! Even though he was able to hit all of them, it still felt like he was barely able to because of how slow his new sword feels, causing the merc to grit his teeth a bit. If he had his katana, Hans would've probably dealt with those bolts in a swifter manor...but there was no point complaining about it. Despite feeling slower, this sword was still stronger, and Hans was able to move fast enough at least. With time, he'll get better at it.
But for now....
The merc's grimoire would begin to glow as well as the blade of his sword. "Flying Chaos Slash." the dark mage uttered before swinging his sword horizontally, forming a slash of darkness that was swiftly sent flying at the lightning pirate, slicing right through him.
As the body fell to the ground, Hans would back up a bit until his back was pressed against Suna's own if she was still there. "You holding up alright?" Hans asked.
Three more enemy pirates then showed up on Hans' end, all ready to cause some trouble, and the merc simply shook his head. If the sound mage was still there, Hans would gently place the back of his head against hers. "Stay alert, and...be careful." Words that Hans didn't really need to tell Suna, but he couldn't help himself.
"Vulpes Corvum." As Hans ran at the approaching trio of pirates, the merc summoned three ravens crafted of darkness. This didn't discourage the three pirates and they all rose up their elemental swords, one made of wood, another plant, and the final one earth. "Percutiens!" Hans yelled out, ordering two of his ravens to fly into two of the pirates, exploding on impact and swiftly taking them down! The merc however didn't launch the final raven and let it continue to linger over his shoulder. Despite seeing his comrades go down so easily, the earth wielding pirate continued forward and swing his earth sword down at Hans...only for it to collide with the blade of Hans' sword, parrying it!
The pirate attempted to swing his sword again...but before it could hit its target, the earth sword had started to crumble, a delay reaction from its impact with Hans' weapon. The pirate's mouth was wide open, looking in pure shock at his now empty hands. Wasting no time, Hans slashed at the guy's chest, sending him to the ground! Exhaling out his nose, Hans looked down at the body before looking out to all the other battles happening. It seems that Verona's crew was taking care of the pirates Hans and Suna weren't dealing with. The battle appears to be going in their favor! The dark mage's attention was now on the captain herself, still in the middle of fighting the enemy captain.
Verona's fog magic collided with Wyd's watery aura, their clashes ending in stalemates each time! "You and that insufferable Smack fellow have been a thorn in me side for too long!" The enemy captain claimed as he swung his sword at Verona, slashing her in the stomach...or so they thought. What he hit was nothing more but a clone, an illusion made of fog that disappeared upon impact. Wyd seemed surprised at first, but not for long. Through some more fog, the real Verona appeared behind Wyd, and attempted to strike him down with her sword, but Wyd was fast thanks to his reinforcement, and turned just in time to clash his sword with her own! "Once I am done with ye, then I'll be goin after Caballero, then none on these seas will be able to stop me from pillaging those Clover trade ships!" The man claimed as he let out a laugh.
"Aye, do ya ever stop flappin yer gums, Wyd?" Verona shook her head, and was just about to strike until a certain someone rushed into the scene...
"Flaming fist!!!"
Backbreaker Joe ran at the enemy captain, using physical reinforcement as well formed from his fire element! Wyd simply caught the incoming fist however in his free hand, then twisted it, causing Joe to groan and grit his teeth in pain, while Wyd had a sadistic grin on his own. "Joe!" Verona yelled out, summoning more of her fog magic...but then a single raven...formed of darkness flew past the woman, and exploded on the enemy captain! "Ngh!" The explosion was enough to do some damage to Wyd and get his grip off of Joe who then fell to a knee, holding his wrist in pain.
"Gaah, who dares....?" Holding a hand to his chest, Wyd looked over to where the raven came from and saw Hans walking his way over with his greatsword resting gently on his shoulder. Both Joe and Verona looked in the same direction as well, the latter giving him a grin followed by a nod. She then looked over to wherever Suna is if she is still within sight, and still kicking ass probably. "Aye, looks like I wasn't wrong letting ye landlubbers aboard me vessel." she claimed before looking back at Wyd, giving him a cocky little look of her own.

The slash is capable of leaving painful cuts and bruises to those struck with it, the dark aura fading away shortly after. The user can follow up with an additional slash every twenty control gained.
Using their grimoire, the user conjures up a raven (an additional can be formed per twenty control gained) made out of darkness that flies idly by them with a length of twenty-six inches and a wingspan of four feet. Upon a spoken command of “Percutiens” or a gesture of their weapon, the user sends the bird flying at their target(s) exploding on impact, dealing blunt damage as well as knocking them back up to four meters (an additional five meters per ten power gained).
Suna had been fairly certain she was not fit for this type of fighting style at all. Why fight melee when one could safely attack from a distance? It was much more efficient and effective when it came to physical exertion and danger, and all of her early spells targeted enemies from a distance. Yet here she was, in the middle of the action, swinging Cadenza like a mad woman.
And maybe she was a little mad, seeing one of Verona’s men about to be struck. She had no allegiance nor loyalty with any group, but in her short time at sea, the red-haired captain and her crew had gained her respect. At the very least, she could do her part and fight alongside them. Clumsily and awkwardly, but fight she did.
Her blade came down on the enemy pirate’s arm, the one that was brandishing the sword. The man howled in pain, and now turned to attack her. She dropped down to a defense guard as the pirate struck out. He was so much taller, and more powerful. His blade also had more reach. She was short, and her rapier-like sword was thin and lightweight. However, she had speed and flexibility on her side.
She jumped back to avoid his swing, then leapt forward to land a strike on his shoulder before jumping back again. Thus did the elf dance lightly around the pirate, landing strikes whenever she sensed an opening and watching out for his heavy swings. She only managed to defeat him when she lunged for his legs, and caused him to fall over. One of Verona’s men quickly jumped on him and tied his hands and legs up, so he would not cause any more trouble.
"You holding up alright?"
She looked up at the familiar voice and nodded. "Aye." During her sword fight with the previous pirate, she had not noticed the lightning bolt that was directed her way. He had saved her royally, as even if she saw the incoming attack, she probably would not have been able to dodge and deal with both the long range and melee attack. True, the sound mage had come a long way from that shy and quiet elf who toppled over after a mere punch. However, she was still learning, and was still a far cry from becoming proficient in this unfamiliar territory of fighting.
"Stay alert, and...be careful."
"You too." Two more enemy pirates were heading her way, stopping her from saying any more. She could feel Hans’ back against hers. A wave of comfort and reassurance swept over her, and she drew strength from it. He got her back, and she got his. Just the way it should be.
The duo both ran towards their targets at the same time. Suna could sense the powerful blasts of dark mana behind her, and wished she could watch her man cut down those enemies. However, she was tied up with pirates of her own. The femme formed her aura into her Crescendo ring, and threw it at the further pirate. It burst in an aura explosion on impact, temporarily knocking him out. She knew she could not fight both enemies at once—she was not that adept on her sword yet, nor was she fast enough on instinctive reflects.
As the pirate closer to her came with a copper staff in hand, she dodged one of his swings. It was too close. The staff had such a wide reach and the deck was not like the wide open areas that she was used to fighting in. These tight quarters required more skill, more precision—something the elf did not yet have. All she could do was dodge and defend, and wait for an opening when the other messed up.
Yes! One of the swings went wide, and before he could recover, Suna jumped forward and slashed at his arm, the one holding the weapon. Then she followed it up with a cut on his side, and only then did he go down. She quickly glanced over at the other downed man nearby, the one she had thrown her aura ring at. It seemed like her spell had effectively knocked out for good. Perhaps she should make more mini ‘bombs’ like that...
The ruckus on the other side of the ship was getting louder and louder. With her side cleared, Suna turned to see the two captains fighting. Verona’s crew was successfully beating back the intruders, and now all the attention was centered at the main battle scene. Like Hans, she watched as the fog and water magic collided. Her eyes widened when she saw Wyd slash out at the redhead...only to have it pass right through! She had not seen many illusions before, and this left her in awe. Furthermore, Verona had appeared behind the cocky male, and was about to go down for the decisive blow. That is, if she was not evenly matched in speed and power.
Jests and banters were exchanged, though Suna was too far away to hear the exact words. The clash of steel filled the air, and the sound mage’s quiet hum went by unnoticed. With Wyd’s crew all taken care of, the elf could safely summon her harp once more. Slender fingers hovering in mid-air, she was just about to play...but something stopped her. Could she possibly try to control her sound without use of a conductive device? Perhaps she had been too dependent on her instruments.
It felt strange, but she could feel the music humming through her blood. Yes, she could do this. She just needed to wait for the right moment. Just when she thought the moment was right, a flaming spell and person came flying towards Wyd. It was that ‘Backbreaker’ Joe, and the only thing being broken right now was his spirit. Wyd had caught his wrist easily before twisting it, making the burly man howl in pain.
Suna sensed it before she saw it. She had felt familiar dark mana gathering before it launched out like a raven towards the enemy captain, exploding in a flurry of mana feathers. Now! From the other side of the ship, the blue-haired elf had drawn her mana together, and just as the dark spell exploded, her sound magic Rallentando rushed out and up, thick strands of mana shooting up and wrapping themselves in their unlucky victim. With Wyd exhausted by the sword fight with Verona and battered down by Hans’ dark spell, it was not difficult to keep him restrained.
Suna advanced as Hans did, careful to keep her restraints on him. The music was playing in her mind, and that was all it took. She was not using her harp this time, yet she was able to use her sound magic. It was a breakthrough for her. Small, but a breakthrough nonetheless.
"Aye, looks like I wasn't wrong letting ye landlubbers aboard me vessel."
Suna only nodded, but still kept her eye on Wyd. The latter’s face was a sight to behold: tomato red, veins bulging out, and his mouth shouting profane obscenities at each of them. The elf frowned, her delicate eyebrows knitting together. She was not about to let him insult anyone on board Verona’s ship, much less the dark mercenary. She let some of her sound magic pour into the talkative mouth, effectively muting and shutting him up for the time being. "What should we do with him?"
Verona only crossed her arms and laughed aloud. "I’ll let ya decide, codfish, since yer the one holding him down right now!"
Suna glanced quickly over at Hans, eyes questioning. Her mind whirled. She was not good at deciding things like this. What would be the best? "We should take him back to be put on trial." She said finally. "And have him repay back what he has stolen."
"I’d ‘ave knocked ‘im out and left ‘im on a deserted island!" The captain smirked down on the struggling but silent water mage. "But yer idea is sound. I bet thar’s a bounty somewhere on this ugly head Killiam Wyd, and we can git dat gold." Her one emerald eye was glittering, perhaps already thinking of claiming the said bounty.
Suna could only give a little sheepish laugh at the praise, and also at the piratess’ single-minded perspective when it came to money. She glanced over to the mercenary, giving him a through run-down to see if he got hurt in any way. It seemed like he had come out unscathed, and she breathed a little sigh of relief. He had been training, and she could feel him getting stronger. She would have to work harder after this on her own skills. But at least in this endeavor, she had made a little progress in her magic. She did, after all, have to keep up with her man.

“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
Thanks to the combined efforts of Verona's crew, and the mage couple, Kiliam's crew were dropping like flies! Not a single one remained up...which leaves the captain himself.
Wyd was going strong in his battle against Verona, but thanks to a surprise attack from the dark mage, the enemy captain was now feeling his strength dwindling. He had a hand painfully on his chest, gritting his teeth as he focused on the approaching mercenary. Despite the hit he had just taken, Wyd wasn't one to give up easily and so he attempted to boost up his physical reinforcement again, the watery aura around him flaring. "Ye think one little cheap shot is goin ta do me in, boy?" The captain said before clenching his free hand into a fist. "Come on then! Let's see if ya can handle me one on one." Kiliam added.
Hans was about to give Kiliam what he wanted, but then the merc perked his head up a bit, sensing a familiar mana approaching quickly from behind. The merc shook his head lightly and smirked. "Don't need to." is all Hans would say, making Kiliam raise an eyebrow, but the captain wouldn't have enough time to respond as strands of sound magic quickly approached the pirate, tying him down and inflicting more damage to his body until he couldn't keep up his spell! As this happened, Hans looked back to the source of this spell, Suna. He took notice of a certain magical instrument not being at her side. Looks like the dark mage wasn't the only one getting stronger, and of course, he wasn't surprised.
"I see you've been practicing." Hans said as she walked up next to her, the both of them now making it to Wyd and the others.
The watery aura around Wyd has diminished and was on one knee, gritting his teeth in pain before blurting out various...insults. He's a stubborn one, even when defeated that's for sure. Luckily, Suna was able to deal with that by just muting the man. A bit frightening...but still better than Hans' alternative of just knocking him out.
Hans quietly listened to the exchange between Verona and Suna about what should be done with the captain. The elf looked questioningly over to the dark mage. "Uhh.." Hans simply rubbed the back of his neck and looked back at Wyd. He certainly had some ideas on what to do with him...but none that he believed Suna would agree with. It seems she was able to figure something out, however. Having him face trial does seem to be the right thing to do...and then Verona mentioned something about a possible bounty.
"Gold...?" he muttered. Hans now had his arms crossed with a similar glittering look in his eyes to Verona's but more subtle. The idea of turning Wyd in himself to cash in was starting to sound...appealing...but then the dark mage looked over back at Suna and quickly brushed those thoughts to the side.
She...would probably not have liked that.
The dark mage took notice of the run-down his lady was giving him and gave he gave a silent nod to assure her that he's fine along with a small smile. He made sure that she was okay too. The sound mage may be a strong healer and has that necklace, but that's not going to stop Hans from worrying.
Hans was now looking around. The members of Verona's crew were doing alright. Some healers were tending to injured crewmates while others were using restraining spells to detain the defeated enemy pirates. The merc's eyes then met with Joe's as he stood up from the ground, holding onto his wrist still. The two men silently watched each other, their faces hard to read. Without a word, Joe simply walked off to get healed most likely.
The ship was now en route back to Raque, but it would be some time before they reached it. Will the crew's journey back be a calm one?
An ominous, distant wail could be heard....way out in the sea...

Alright! Approved! Both of you are awarded 1103 Yul! This took me a lot longer to approve than I'd like to admit, but this has been a fantastic read! A few cute moments from the OTP, and all in all I'm very happy I managed to read through it.
Something to note though! Suna, on the first post, you miscounted your mana by ten! 140-30-20-20-10=60. 20+30=50. 60+50=110. You'd be at 110 instead of 120. This was too small an error to hold against you, but just be careful about this in the future! Never know when it might bite ya in the butt. All in all I'm looking forward to the next installment!
