[attr="class","julienglassscroll"] Julien lifted a hand, shading his eyes from the glaring sun. The bright blue of the autumn sky seemed to mock him with its promise of good weather for the afternoon. He said nothing, tired eyes looked out across the market street. Bustling people went about their day, boots hitting the pavement, carts tucking along with their usual business. The cries of the barter and trade were distracting enough. But perhaps none was more of a burden than the presence of his partner. [break][break] They were supposed to be working together, but it was easy to assume that his partner would hardly take any initiative towards getting this job done. Julien didn’t think much of it. [break][break] Perhaps there wasn’t anything to think about at all. After all, Julien himself did not like to put forth the danger of thought. He didn’t have time or effort to question why. It was not his position to do so. And yet, resentment was a thought that he quietly still accepted. The use of such feelings, however, were simply reprimanded if they ever were to surface. So instead of acting upon it, he did remain silent about his own relatively reprehensible emotions. [break][break] It was easier to put on a facade, to play pretend. He could do away with the immediate instinct that begged him to resist against whatever force of the day that was there to make his life some immeasurable hell. [break][break] More silent thoughts irked him, musings that provoked the idea that being alive, in and of itself, was already hellish enough. [break][break] “Quickly find Mrs. Snugglepuff before it’s too late!” [break][break] Too late for what? To be taken up as some street cat that some dirt orphan would find and a meal for themselves? The whining tone of the lady noble who had begged them with such a pleading tone and dangled so much coin in their faces still echoed in his mind. [break][break]
They were looking for a pet, an accessory that a spoiled rich girl liked to have at her side because cute things were what shallow people liked to have at their side to flaunt their status. [break][break]
It was hardly a wonder why the cat would have run away.

Honestly, the mission itself was incredibly beneath him. It had been asked of him by the captain personally to participate in, but Michail wasn't going to do it by himself. The Ravencrest would comply, but not quite in the same manner that the captain asked of him. There was nothing barring him from bringing another member of the Silver Eagles, and thus he nabbed his personal favorite dog. For what better way was there to find a cat than using a subservient dog?
Julien Reinsberg-Blake. He knew a bit about him, of course. Unwanted by the Reinsbergs, given to the Blakes, but kept the name all the same. He was unflinchingly loyal to those who had status. It was laughable. He was nothing more than a glorified assistant--no, even less than that. Of the Silver Eagles, Michail enjoyed this one the most. Because he knew better than anyone his place in the world. He wasn't a true Blake; he was a Reinsberg before that, after all.
Prior to the start of the mission, the Ravencrest had approached Julian, who was his senior in age and likely even within the Silver Eagles as a result. "I'll do the talking," he explained. "You can do the actual searching. Even if you're a Blake, your blood is that of the Reinsbergs. You'd only cause more damage if you spoke to the woman."
The two arrived at the woman's home, where she explained the details. "Mrs. Snugglepuff" was the name of the cat, apparently. The woman explained the details at hand for the mission in question, as well as a description of the cat. This was definitely beneath him. Michail nodded his head at the end.
"Of course, Miss. We will definitely bring Mrs. Snugglepuff back home to you posthaste," he said with sincerity in his words at the end of it all before the two left the home. At least she had a genuine love for her feline. The fact was obvious with a name as wonderful as that.
"Reinsberg," Michail said with venom in his words as he addressed Julien. "I'd suggest we--and by we, I mean you--take a look near some of the restaurants in the area. Felines are social creatures and so it might have taken a shine to an area where they've eaten. Of course, I'll come along with you. It'd complicate things if one or the other was missing."

[break][break]
There was nothing to say about such words. Because in the end, they were the right ones.
[break][break]
Julien remained quiet, silently accepting that it was simply his role in this job and he would do it. He kept his eyes downward, careful to ensure that his hair covered the burn scar that marred his forehead. Damage would be done if he spoke to the woman, even more would likely be done if she set eyes on him. It was just the way of things, it was how that world worked.
[break][break]
"Reinsberg,"
[break][break]
He was called out by his first last name. Julien raised his eyes only slightly, acknowledging what the Ravencrest said with a simple nod of his head. The Ravencrest enjoyed talking, though venom was the only tone he used. He spoke of a plan, Julien knew they had to follow it because it was the royal’s plan, so no other actions would be taken against it.
[break][break]
The restaurants made sense. Julien bowed in respect or rather subservient compliance, and then went ahead to walking where said restaurants were. It was a small street lined with them. And as Julien looked around, the autumn day didn’t seem to belittle any patrons. Julien was not particularly favorable or not of the weather, it was simply another facet of his general disinterest. He had a job, he would do it because it was asked of him.
[break][break]
There wasn’t a need to think about anything else.
[break][break]
He looked around, another part of him rather clueless on how to search for an animal. Sure he could understand wiping out mana beasts or troublesome vermin, but this was a cat. A pet. Something that somebody inheritably cared about despite its deft inability to apparently take care of itself.
[break][break]
Why did people care about pets? Even if it wasn’t his place to wonder, he still had to think about why in the world it mattered. Companionship was marked as belittling in the long run.
[break][break]
And so, he continued to survey the area. Rather unsure of what he was supposed to be looking for. Sighing to himself, he eventually made his way to a waiter. His cold stare probably was unwelcoming to the employee, but the Magic Knight robe would catch the man’s attention.
[break][break]
“Have you seen a cat around here? A pet cat, not an obvious stray.” Julien inquired, his tone showing the same level of warmth as his piercing red eyes. It made sense in Julien’s mind to ask a local, someone who frequented the area, and who likely would have taken notice of an animal who didn’t appear as if it thrived on the streets.

Michail was glad to have such an obedient and compliant comrade in the form of Julien. He was one who understood his place. Even if he was "Nobility", it wasn't because of his blood. Neither Blake nor Reinsberg, Julien had no place he belonged other than at the bottom. He wasn't a figure to respect. Michail had no problem working alongside him, and he still had a degree of respect for his abilities as he was still able to make it into the Magic Knights but to say that he respected Julien as a person--to say that he even thought of Julien as a person--was wrong.
The Reinsbergs were just problem children who were lucky to inherit nobility based on the decision of a past king. Given the history of kings in Clover though, it meant very little, and as such there was little reason to acknowledge the status of the Reinsbergs as far as the blonde was concerned.
Was that unfair of him? To make this assessment of one who was his senior in life, even if just barely? Who was his senior within the Magic Knights? Perhaps, but Julien was one who was accustomed to the unfairness and inequality that life offered. Who was he to treat him any differently? Michail was just fulfilling the role that life asked of the brown-haired male; to treat him as he so deserved, and that was all to it.
There was no point in addressing him in a friendly manner, Michail realized. There was no point in acknowledging the name given to him at birth, as that name meant very little to his parents, clearly. And he was very clearly unwanted by the Blakes at this point in his life, too. So if he wasn't "Julien", and he wasn't a "Blake", Reinsberg was the only aspect of his identity left to address him by.
Though Michail had Julien search, the young Ravencrest still followed along. In the same way one shouldn't allow their pet to run unattended, Michail felt it best to supervise Julien. It was important that he maintain sight on this eyesore for the betterment of the people around here. He looked more like a rabid dog than a Silver Eagle, and it was Michail's duty to see to it that there wasn't a scene caused a result of his involvement.
As they moved about, surveying the area and trying to find a restaurant, Julien stumbled upon a local with whom he thought to inquire about the whereabouts.
Michail felt it best to add to the description. "The cat is orange and white--quite well-fed," he added on, politely implying that the cat in question was a chonker.
"Hm..." the figure said, placing a hand under his chin as he tapped his feet. It was clear he was in thought.
"Oh, yeah. I think I saw a cat rummage through some trash earlier that meets that description. It was causing a bit of a scene earlier. The owners chased it off. I think it went... thataway?" he said, pointing towards the direction of a park not too far away. Michail would immediately recognize the area. The park itself wasn't too large, but it was large enough. Still, if it was a big cat, it probably wanted food.
Thus, the designated picnic grounds were the spot to be. "Reinsberg, follow behind me," he ordered as they moved to the park at the Ravencrest's command.
The park itself wasn't anything special, despite being in the noble realm. Lush grass that offered comfort upon being stepped on, as well as tall trees that towered above. The picnicking was in the center part of the park and thus, the two made their move towards it.

[attr="class","julienglassscroll"] The conversation was soon easily led by the Ravencrest. Julien turned only slightly, allowing Michail to address the man as he wished. In the end, this was a rather simple job. There shouldn’t have been too much trouble in regards to finishing it, or really, discourse between the two knights assigned to it. [break][break] But to say that Julien felt no resentment at all was something of a misnomer. Michail was simply quote ‘putting him in his place.’ In short, there was nothing to feel resentment for. [break][break] But words, however true, still stung with spite, even if his mask of indifference still plastered his face. [break][break] The waiter gave the direction of the park, being the last place said animal was seen. Mrs. Snugglepuff, well-fed, a light term for its actual size and almost deplorable extra weight. Julien still didn’t understand pets in that sense, other than the fact they all just happened to be living accessories to the nobles who doted upon them. [break][break] When they arrived at the park, the green space was a rather well-kept area, some pathways led about, neatly trimmed lawns and bushes. And really, no cat in sight. [break][break] Julien began scanning the area, reaching out with what little sensory ability he did have. Unfortunately, said ability seemed to just be weak enough to be unable to detect any nearby signatures of mana besides his own and the Ravencrests. Would a cat even have any mana either? That was something he was rather unaware of. [break][break] Spotting a nearby garbage bin, Julien went off to approach it. Nothing about the can seemed out of place, even freshly changed by whatever greenskeeper was around. [break][break] Looking down, Julien then spotted soft impressions on the dirt. Paw tracks? Was he really becoming some sort of tracker now? How… ambiguous. [break][break] “Pawprints.” Julien alerted Michail before simply following the trail to further back into some trees.

The park itself seemed relatively normal; at the very least, there didn't seem to be any irregularities. And why would there be? It was just a cat that had left its home. Still, Michail had the same initial impression as Julien upon seeing the sight. Or perhaps, in his own world view, it would be accurate to say that the Reinsberg had arrived at the same conclusion that he himself had upon examining the park.
The truth was, however, Michail had no idea where to even begin searching for the cat here. He was just going to stick with the tried-and-true method of asking around and seeing where that got him. The idea of even approaching a trash can wouldn't have even registered in the Ravencrest's mind, but perhaps a mutual affinity drew Julien to it. Michail laughed out loud to the joke he thought of in his own little head as he approached the man, only for him to point out paw prints.
How curious, Michail felt as he knelt down to examine it. "Mm..." he mused as he looked at the photograph, comparing the pawprints to the cat in question. "It goes without saying that I am no expert when it comes to animals and the like, but if I was to guess based on this photograph, the size of the paw prints does roughly match up to the size of the cat. The fact that there are prints to begin within this terrain is proof of a more... larger house cat, at least."
Though he spoke, it wasn't for Julien. It wasn't for anyone. The Ravencrest simply loved the sound of his own voice. Of course, there was also the matter that he just simply did better when vocalizing his thoughts, a habit he was relatively known for by those who had been around him. He might have been a fool to some, but he was no idiot.
"Might you check behind the trees? Unfortunately, I have too much of a presence," Michail "admitted"--he simply had no aptitude for stealth. From his clothes to his hair to his very existence--he had no future as an Azure Deer, that was for sure.

[attr="class","julienglassscroll"] It was the usual amount of monologue that the Ravencrest spoke aloud to affirm that yes, the paw prints had most likely come from the culprit of the missing cat. Julien said nothing but nodded in return because he had come to the same conclusion as well, he just didn’t need to speak it out loud. [break][break] But whatever served the Ravencrest’s ego, he supposed. The young upper noble did like to hear the sound of his own voice, Julien had been in the presence of him to know that much for certain. [break][break] So Julien followed along with the pawprints, keeping his gaze downwards as he quietly walked through the more wooded area of the park. [break][break] "Might you check behind the trees? Unfortunately, I have too much of a presence," [break][break] “Yes,” Julien gave a simple nod to the Ravencrest, only internally raising a brow at what the youth truly meant. Perhaps Michail recognized his own penchant for attracting attention and wishing it upon himself, which made him more self-aware than most others would give him credit for. Regardless, he still did so, which ruefully took any other any admiration one could hold for the young noble. [break][break] Julien was silent because he often did the very opposite of what the Ravencrest did because he preferred things that way and there was no reason for him to draw attention to himself. Looking around the bushes, Julien noticed the pawprints led directly around a tree with a small hollow underneath its roots. Julien looked closer, kneeling down at the hole before hearing a hsssing noise erupt from the dark. [break][break] The poor Reinsberg hardly had time to react, and instead was caught off balance by a flash of fur that came rushing out of the hole. The cat bounded away, straight past Julien, and instead, came right by the Ravencrest! [break][break] Shaking himself from the ground, Julien looked back at the hole the cat had rushed out of. [break][break] “Oh…” Julien softly sounded, startled at what he found in the burrow… [break][break] [break][break] Julien had come out from the trees, with his normal open shirt slipped off his back. It made his arms more visible, but his mantle was still covering most of his upper chest and back. Looking around for Michail and hopefully the Mrs. Snugglepuff in tow, in his arms Julien held three small kittens, black, white, and orange. His face was remarkably neutral regarding the small animals he held in his arms, though they all seemed to be quite comfortable with him, with purrs sounding out from receiving the Knight’s warmth. [break][break] Of course, it was now more obvious to Julien as to why the Mrs. Snugglepuff had run off, he just hoped that its owner would come to understand as well.
