He'd been gone for a while. The broken reality had separated him from the country with June, but returning to Clover had been... an interesting explosion of information. Yuurei and Riley were missing. Silas, a man he'd begun to see as a sort of brother, at least a friend, was dead at the hands of a threat that appearently didn't even exist. Something he'd wanted details on from someone that had been there. But there had been a larger issue.
A woman he'd taken interest in, one that had shown like a brilliant ruby caught aflame. With ambition, goals, emotion, was retired away into a noble house. Acting as a noble lady, managing the household. A woman that was stronger in mana than he was. His jaw slowly clenched, head tilting to the side slightly as his gaze trailed over the Vermillion manor before him. The Emily he knew would never of done such a thing. Spoiled and cute, a brat still learning her place in the world.
Someone that had still been recovering from prior loss and failure. Suddenly struck with her country nearly falling, and a man she viewed as an elder brother, dead. It didn't take a genius to figure out what had driven her to this point, but still. His jaw clenched. Emily Vermillion was better than this.
The woman he had asked to be his, that she'd said she'd think about in a fluster swatting at him repeatedly, was better than this. He'd taken years to get back after the world had been sundered. But he'd gotten here as fast as he could, he had no regrets. His hand lifted, pushing the gate open and attracting the attention of several guards that approached. He glanced at them, then shifted his gaze upward toward the window where he felt the familiar ki coming from.
Emily. But the brilliant flame that had once been here life force was now quieter, diminished. Akin to an ember, a dying flame. His own mana began to swirl around him slowly, the soft silver glow overtaking the area. Emily was a sensor. She would feel his magic long before these guards managed to question him.
"Come on, Em," he murmured softly more to himself than anything else, eyes softening.
