We see pretty consistently in canon that mages are able to cast spells without a grimoire. Usually, these are weaker spells such as a small fireball and flavor stuff, but we do see more powerful mages manage some other quirks like Mereoleona and all of them have shown Physical Reinforcement of various level's without using a grimoire.
Following this line of thought, I figured a minor little adjustment wouldn't be bad in allowing Grimoireless Casting. Would be pretty simple to implement by adding a little line to spell rules, basically.
Grimoireless Casting
Characters are able to cast spells of two ranks lower than their own at will without having to activate their grimoire. (ie. A Senior mage can cast Junior spells without activating their Grimoire.) Grimoireless casting adds +5m/s to the speed of the spell due to the book not having to activate, but requires twice the normal control to cast the spell.
Doesn't even technically need this much, could just be a "You can cast spells 2 ranks lower than your own without a grimoire activating" for fun flavor, tbh. It just gives a general guideline then for IC interactions. But, I thought adding a minor mechanical benefit could be fun for some added combat options.
