8 Months Ago:
Smoke and fire reigned supreme in the Royal Capital as the Daemon Malacath escaped from his prison, carrying the former Wizard King Nero along for the ride. Samson and the Prince responded immediately, but Jagen was occupied with other events. Deep within the Palace itself, roots had grown into the stone, spreading and breaking apart the foundation of this grand Palace. This magic, it felt all too familiar.
The red cat walking across Jagen's desk began to stir. A potent magical power warranted their attention, and like that the two disappeared. Finding themselves in the Witches Forest, many hundreds of miles away from the Palace they stood. The same roots that now pierced the Capital could be felt here--it was the Witch Queen's magic. She had freed Malacath/Nero, but why? The Witch Queen had lost just as many Witches as they had Citizens and Knights. The current Queen cooperated with them to the fullest, but a deep pit of distrust made Jagen wonder; Was it all just a ruse?
I was wondering when you'd come to me. It seems that feline of yours has plans of its own. There she was, the beautiful Witch Queen with her flowing hair dark as the night and skin paler than the Moon. The aura emanating from here was not so beautiful--it was dark and corrupted. Jagen and his companion senses great magical power enough to rival if not slightly surpass their own, and they felt Abyss. Pure Abyss. There was no doubt about it, she was a Daemon, one of the three upper Arch-Daemon.
Lilith. It's been you all along. Jagen was now speaking to the one missing Arch-Daemon they could not find. He should have suspected her all along. Admittedly she had grown suspicion. The Crimson Lion Captain Ardere Kasai warned him something was amiss, and so did his Advisor Samson. If only he had pursued what the two told him, but now he knew. It was not too late. Those in the Capital had the power to thwart her plans. Now it was his job to fight her.
Lilith felt the powerful intent from the man standing before her. They were on the outskirts of the Central Forest, just outside the reach of her walls--perfect for a fight. But she did not wish to enact her final plans just yet. She merely had to hold Jagen off until the Capital chaos forced him to retreat. Summoning forth a horde of blazing roots and plants, her Blazing World Tree magic was unlike anything the Wizard King had ever seen. The trees burned with flames hot enough to rival the aforementioned Ardere's flames, but the Wizard King standing before her had Fate on his side. The red cat that leaped onto his shoulders was ready for a fight, and so was he.
Ryoku, Lysander, lend me some of your strength old friends. He whispered to himself as he drew his sword: Joyeuse. It was an elegant broadsword said to be forged by the same flames that Excalibur was forged from. The only difference was the tip of this blade originated from a spear once used to kill an old God, or so the legends said. Holding out his other hand, a shield formed from cloth and fabric, hardening into a material more durable than any metal on Earth. He was once called the Shield of Clover, and today he aimed to make good on that title. Even though he did not have his Sword Lysander, he still had his own strength to call upon.
Don't hold back on me, Wizard King.
The two engaged in a fight that shook the earth beneath their feet. Dozens of blazing branches and trees aimed to kill Jagen, but he swept them away with his sword and shield. With each strike he left a crater in the ground large enough to form a pond or small lake. This was a battle between Titans. Lilith and Jagen were two of the strongest mages that ever fought in this land. If the chaos of the Capital, Kikka, and Raque had not ensued this battle surely would have caught the attention of the entire Kingdom, but it did not.
After hours of combat, Jagen slid across the ground as blood dripped from his brow. Before him stood a powerful woman with branches stretched out across her body, and both had sustained serious wounds. Their battle was soon to reach its Climax, yet they both felt a power surge from the Capital. White flames reached the sky surrounded by powerful Void energy. From all the way here the two could feel Ardere and Malacath clash. Not to mention Salamander's power had awoken. Lilith could now tell the battle was not leaning in her fellow Daemon's favor. This was impossible. The Captain was powerful but she had not expected this. Jagen felt this as well, but he also knew that his subordinate had not fully mastered this power. It was sure to burn him out. To finish her off or go back to his people?
Make your choice wisely. She taunted with a devilish yet enticing smile.
Before Jagen could make his choice, the Witch Queen retreated into the ground, withdrawing her branches.
Shit. I have to get back to the Capital.
His companion was exhausted. He'd need to do this himself.
Once Jagen arrived in the Capital, he found massive destruction and chaos. Ultimately the Knights had won the day and saved the Royal King. Ardere passed out from his overuse of Salamander's power, but Yuurei the Silver Eagle Captain stood by to help him. He told the others that Malacath had teleported him away.
The Wizard King did not tell anyone what he found, except for Samson. Now was not the time for the world to know who the Witch Queen truly was. It would incite war they were not ready for. Kikka still remained shrouded in darkness and Raque would need massive recovery from the flooding. So he held his tongue, for now.
Present Day:
Shortly after the second excursion to Kikka, Jagen was to make an announcement. Everyone suspected the heroes of Kikka would receive medals, but that was not why he called the people of Clover to the Palace. He had a secret to reveal.
Thousands gathered outside the Palace. All who could come did. Samson stood at his side as the Captains stood behind him. Only the white haired man with an eyepatch, his Advisor knew what he was about to reveal. It would shock the world.
Thank you all for coming. I am eternally grateful for the service those in Kikka have provided to us. While it was no easy task, they did succeed and for that I am so proud. The speech started as many suspected, but it was not until his next words that gasps could be heard from a mile away. His voice was projected via a sound mage's spell so that all could hear.
It has been over a year since the Shatter. This day changed the world. What the Arch-Daemon Asmodeus did affected us all. His comrade Aamon has since grown in power as well, but it is the third Arch-Daemon Lilith we have spent so much time looking for. Jagen bit the inside of his cheek. Hiding this secret created a pit of shame in his stomach. The truth is, I have been holding a secret from you all since the Capital attack. I was waiting for Kikka to be retaken and Raque to be rebuilt, as I knew what I am about to tell you will incite calls of war. The crowd began to murmur. What was he talking about?
It is the Witch Queen. She who we have cooperated with for years now has revealed her hand. She is the Arch-Daemon Lilith, and she is responsible for freeing the Daemon that wrought havoc on this Capital last year. Not only that but she let us into the Forest to use us. She's been behind so much more than we know. And I know this will anger you. I feel anger too, and shame for hiding this. I believed I did what was right for this Kingdom, to help us. But now I see that we will have to fight, but we need to be prepared. So I will be holding the Royal Knight Exams once more. The Royal Knights will be called upon to fight the three Arch-Daemon. Therefore I will need three Captains. Ardere. Zaven. Lydia. You will be my three Captains and hold the exams, and then you will each pursue one of the 3 main Arch-Daemon. They have plagued us for so long. Took too many lives. It is our time to take the fight to them, and we will do it right.
The responses were mixed. Many felt anger at their Wizard King for hiding a secret for the past eight months. Even so, hundreds held their fists up and shouted. They shouted for the Royal Knights. It had been years since the Exams had been invoked, but now was the time. It was their time to save this Kingdom once again.
