The Royal Knight Exams. This might be her one and only chance to assert her status as the family head. Vaile wasn't going to be released any time soon, so it looked as though her opportunity to earn favor with the Blakes was likely to fall through. She couldn't nor wouldn't expect handouts. She wanted to earn favor. She wanted to earn her position after she walked out on her family. Verena felt obligated to do that much, at least.[break][break]
To that end, she was pushing herself harder than she had ever done before. She was training non-stop, doing whatever she could to try to improve as best as she could. Her search for a curse even had been put on hold. It wasn't every day that the Royal Knight exams happened, but it was the first time that she knew that they were being held open to the general public. If that was the case, what other choice did she have than to work harder than she ever had to try to improve her chances of getting in?[break][break]
She had managed to get her hands on only two new types of magic in recent time, but that wasn't enough. She needed more. If she was to realistically have any chance, she needed something rarer. She needed something stronger. She needed the magic of a four-leaf clover grimoire that she could use to make a golem.[break][break]
It wouldn't guarantee that she would perform better than anyone else. She wasn't the strongest mage out there, after all. Not just that, there was still the issue of her own horrific physical constitution. But it would still give her an advantage. It would most certainly catch people off guard. She was positive of that much.[break][break]
...but she only had one person she could rely on for this matter. Suna's boyfriend, Hans Walker. The issue was contacting him. After all, Verena didn't really know anything about him. She didn't know where he lived, his friends. She didn't know how to get ahold of him less she was to go through someone close to him. For something like this, she wished to get ahold of him directly.[break][break]
However, that wouldn't be possible. She ultimately decided to go through Suna to ask if he would be willing to help her train as well as teach him Dark Magic. The place that they would be meeting up at would be the Basin, as it was where she was most comfortable. Truthfully, the Summoner wanted to meet at night, as she felt that would be more appropriate for learning Dark magic; however, she settled for the evening when requesting him.[break][break]
It might have been an assumption on her part, but she imagined that dark magic would be more comfortable in less light. If it was anything like Hans was, it would likely end up being a bit more guarded. It wasn't going to be simple learning this magic if that was the case, frustrating as that was for her to admit. It was going to go beyond just 'befriending' it. She would need to earn its trust, too.[break][break]
The location was different than the picnic area. This was much deeper into the Basin, and she had conjured another golem that would help greet Hans and guide him to her. This golem was ... much different than what he had seen from her so far. In fact, it bore resemblance to Verena herself, if not for the fact "she" was made from cloth. She looked like some sort of cloth doll as a result.[break][break]
Meanwhile, Verena comfortably stood in the palm of an earth golem she conjured up. She was comfortably tracing the outline of its palm, made up of dirt, while she stared off towards the distance. Her sensory was minimal, but the golem crafted would at least be able to inform her when it picked up Hans.[break][break]
Verena was clad in her usual white coat with the star ornaments. Her brown hair was tied into a ponytail to keep it out of her eyes, though she did keep her glasses on regardless -- mostly because she was unaware they were even on her face to begin with. The coat was worn over her dark blue jumpsuit and black dress. Her preferred heeled boots stuck into the golem while she awaited Hans' arrival.[break][break]
They were deep into the Basin for a pretty simple reason. She didn't want to be disturbed. The mana concentration was much denser here, which made it far more difficult for just about anyone. Massive trees loomed over her while she enjoyed the shade. The sun could be seen as its descent cast a massive shadow over the visible world. Birds chirped an occasional howl. The fluttering of wings and the sounds of a gentle breeze here and there rustling the leaves.[break][break]
Yes... this was exactly what she wanted. This was where she was at ease. At peace. There were no people here. There was nothing but the serene state of the natural world. The space was open enough, but it was difficult to get to due to the sheer density of trees in the surrounding area, making it appear closed off.[break][break]
It was the ideal place she had found some time ago -- not even animals or mana beasts would disrupt this place, let alone other people. The fact it was so far away from the populated regions as well as closer to another Kingdom was the perfect defense from having to deal with unwanted visitors. The only person that would be here would be Hans.[break][break]
Of course, there was a possibility Suna came along -- she made it a point that if the elf wanted to come along, she was more than welcome to. However, Verena also acknowledged that she wasn't capable of really visiting or chatting too much with her; she was tunnel-visioned solely on learning this magic, to increase her chances of passing the Royal Knight Exams.[break][break]
...Because she had to.
