[attr=class, cyrustext]"So Cyrus... why exactly is it that we haven't trained here before?" Asked the curious spirit Hama, as her partner took his first steps into the strange city of Babel. The sight of the grand tower before them brought to mind the ice spire the two of them had explored several months ago with some other members of the Magic Knights. But what was most evident to the embodiment of sap was the sheer thickness of the mana in the air. The place was positively teeming with magical power, and it made the tiny woman feel alive.
Cyrus was also staring up at the humongous structure that formed the town, and had to concur with his friend; even he, with his practically nonexistent Sensory capabilities could feel the mana around them. It might even be dizzying for the young man, had he not grown accustomed to such things since he first joined the Golden Dawn and began to explore the Clover Kingdom. "Well, from what I hear this place is mostly reserved for studying and the like; I doubt they'd appreciate some Magic Knight running around slinging spells at one another for training. Maybe for meditation training in the future, though!"
The spirit rolled her eyes at the mention of meditation training, a bit disappointed; while she fully acknowledged the importance of their meditation (helping them to synchronize, keeping their minds clear of any distractions, and attempting to expand their thus far limited range of ki sensing), she was still much more fond of more physical, intensive training. She was a spirit of action!
Cyrus chuckled as his companion pouted and pulled out a letter that he had received a couple of days before. "Besides, did you forget? We aren't here to train anyway; we're here so that we can meet Ms. Laguna." He reminded her, stepping to the side on the road so that he wasn't in anybody's way. As he read the letter several people took notice of the boy and his spirit, recognizing him as the Golden Dawn's Vice Captain and being somewhat in awe at his company.
The letter he was reading had been sent by Zarya after he contacted her a couple of weeks ago, having heard of the former member of the Black Bulls through his connections in the Magic Knights, and wanting to meet after hearing about why she left. It would seem that the two of them were kindred spirits, both wanting to investigate and study the differences between the current world and that of it before the Shatter.
There was a problem, however.
The letter Zarya sent had included instructions on how to find her in Babel, where she had set up her research lab, but unfortunately the message was partially damaged in transit; the part with directions to her home was missing, which meant they were essentially going to be looking blindly for her in a city they had never visited with dozens, possibly hundreds of separate floors to search.
A man approached Cyrus, eyeing Hama with a scholarly interest. "Excuse me, sir! You are Cyrus Elwood, Vice Captain of the Golden Dawn, are you not? And you are Hamadryad, the Spirit of Sap, correct? What brings you two to the fine city of Babel?"
Cyrus and Hama both turned their attention to the inquisitive man. "Ah, hello there! Yes, you are correct. Hama and I are here to meet somebody who we have recently made contact with. Actually, I wonder if you might be able to help us. You see sir, this letter was supposed to include directions on how to locate our associate that we'll be meeting, but unfortunately the letter was damaged during delivery so we don't know specifically where to go. Are you familiar with the name Zarya Laguna? She moved here fairly recently, within a month or so."
The man stroked his well-maintained black beard thoughtfully, trying to think of if the name rung any bells. "I'm afraid I can't recall crossing paths with anybody by that name. Ah, but I can tell you something that might help! The fourth level of the tower recently had a number of living quarters for sale; an experiment one of the locals was working on caused some problems, so a lot of people relocated in the aftermath. The plots were cheap for a time, so if your friend only moved here recently that may be your best bet."
Cyrus looked back at the tower, making a mental note of what the man said. He smiled and folded up the letter, stowing it away into his pocket. He gave the man a polite bow, grateful for his assistance. "Thank you for the advice, sir! I'll go check the fourth level right now. I hope that the rest of your day treats you well!"
The man smiled, impressed by the youngster's polite demeanor and attitude. "Ah, think nothing of it! It is a pleasure to be of assistance to one of our kingdom's finest!" He said, waving his hand dismissively. Hama grinned and waved as Cyrus walked away. "Thanks old guy! Your city's really cool!" She called out, displaying her own usual level of politeness.
