There was something to be said for the danger of old places with mana surrounding them. As for Waylynn she couldn't be bothered to fear anything on just the words of others but when a whole family simply didn't return of course the magic knights should be involved. It sounded to others like some sort of 'undead' which is why Waylynn had accepted this particular mission, salt was a purifying element and thus more useful against such creatures.

Her spirit companion seemed to be motivated at least having just barely held back from trying to volunteer Waylynn before she got any farther details. Thankfully though she actually wanted to do this so she was currently on her way to the town to talk to the survivor.

The girl was a mess, forget about questioning her; she was barely coherent in the first place. Civilians and especially younger children were in no position to fight mana beasts and as it turned out it was easier to talk to the people in Kiten that were housing her currently. Though all Waylynn got from that was more of the same she had heard from the reports in the first place, ghostly pale figures that wailed in the night and caused terrifying visions. She was left to assume whether the girl’s family had simply been frightened to death or if these creatures had some sort of way to damage the people they caught in their illusions. She held some sympathy for the girl, but she couldn’t tell if making assurances about defeating the banshee would be better or worse for her and so she had left without doing so. If she were inclined to, she would report it once the job was done.

”You should have told her it would be okay, you saw how frightened she was even after all this time passed.” The fairy chirped as they had gotten back on the road and she revealed herself once more.

”And what good would that provide, unless you think I’ll be bringing her family back with me it would be cold comfort. Besides I’d rather not make promises, rather get results first and then move from there.” She brushed off the suggestion that she could have been softer, besides she doubted they were expecting it from a member of the Green Mantis. She checked the sky again, it was still early in the day and it would be when she got to the castle and if she didn’t miss her guess the creatures wouldn’t be active during the day. They shouldn’t be terribly strong if they relied on fear to corner their victims, but she could use her time wisely, after all she didn’t train to make traps for no reason. She was quite sure that she didn’t have a fear for them to exploit in either case.

The castle itself was, well it didn’t exactly look terrible for being abandoned from a bygone era. Still they were ruins, not some full structure that could be considered a grand cathedral such that you might find for the church today. The people hadn’t gone inside from the report but she couldn’t imagine that such entities were just wandering around, and darkened areas with death associated with them would be exactly the kind of place, and the only one that was close enough. She shook the unnecessary thoughts away, there was no need to question if she was on the right track. She would go inside, no sense trying to engage in a more open field, and exploring around yielded little in the way of the entities she had heard of.

The stone was worn away from years of nobody maintaining it, but the interior still held plenty of dark spots and even in the middle of the day the wind howled from rushing through the halls. ”This place is spooky as heck, you sure it doesn’t bother you? Salena questioned her once again, honestly she was starting to think these kinds of things frightened her more than they did Waylynn. ”It’s far more frightening when you’re alone I suppose. Though I don’t know if I’d qualify for that anymore since I have you here.” She was getting better at placating the spirit without letting her run rampant. In fact that did seem to make her puff up a little, how easy. ”Well, I mean of course who could be scared with a great spirit such as myself around.” Well besides the over inflated ego, but that didn’t bother Waylynn much at all, Salt was her element after all.

The white haired mage drew a circle on the ground in front of the door to a room. placing her magic into it as it quickly faded from sight. ”We’ll camp out in this room, since we’re expecting company. I doubt we’ll be ignored and so until they decide to show themselves it’s just up to us to wait here for them.” She set herself down on the floor and pulled out some of her packed food, she took a bite and waited, thinking it would be easy when they arrived. The time it was taking though was obviously grating on her more impulsive companion. Pity it would have been almost bearable without the constant reminder that nothing was happening.

There was another howling of the wind through the halls and for what was probably the fifth time the spirit zipped behind her to hide as if it was somehow going to summon something she couldn’t handle or the wind itself was going to eat her. The whole thing was getting tiresome as it had been going on since before the sun had actually set, now that it had she was just being skittish seemingly for no reason. ”Really now, It was funny the first time but this is-” A horrific wail, far more shrill than the previous winds, reached her ears and interrupted her train of thought. It was joined by another, and then another until it was a cacophony breaching into her ears and deadening all other sound. The fire she lit was gone, the room was dark and the sound just got louder, trying to block it out she covered her ears but that was doing nothing. Fear? No she was mad but she couldn’t hear her own scream over what could only be the creatures screeching, but where were they? She felt it before she saw it, an icy cold claw on her back making her stumble forward, she whirled around and shot a simple spell where she thought it would be. The figure in white shifted to the side, it was hazy but it sunk back into the darkness when she attacked it. Was it a fake? She couldn’t tell, she could barely even think about it.

Another scratch at her side, this time tumbling away brought her into more claws, peeling against her manaskin. This time she swung wildly bringing one of her stronger spells to bear, the large scythe of salt appeared to strike only darkness but she felt it, she was sure it hit something. She underestimated the creatures, they were smarter than she thought, more coordinated and a dozen other things that she couldn’t think of correctly right now. Of course she hadn’t thought of it, if they used illusions they easily saw past her trap once again proving hardly useful in yet another situation. She tried to shake the noise out again but nothing, she simply didn’t have the mastery to shake illusions like this, she could tell something was wrong but there was no way she was going to remove the magic. How many were there? She couldn’t tell there was no indication and they likely wouldn’t give one. But she could work with that, after all she chose this room knowing that it wasn’t big enough to dodge all the way if she unleashed. Not that she could hear herself chant so making a speech to the creatures would be no use. She could still use her spells, that was the important thing.

There was no telling what direction she was shooting, at least not from her perspective, and so she chose one at random lobbing the bomb down so that it would detonate out at her feet and cover the half of the room facing that direction. Still she couldn’t tell if she hit like this, or even if something had happened everything was still dark and the screams were just as loud but no more strikes followed immediately so she felt like it had at least pushed them a bit. She felt the trickle of mana flow back as she tried to recover her manaskin again, it had broken from the attacks just now and she doubted it would recover fully by the time they found their way back to her. This was far more dangerous than she had previously thought.

Description: Waylynn sends a ball of salt forward and then causes it to detonate covering a 20 meter radius Semi-Circle away from Waylynn's position, as long as it doesn't travel out of the 40 meter range of the spell, enemies hit by the resulting burst of salt will take intermediate damage and be knocked back away from the explosion by 4 meters + 5 meters for every ten power Waylynn possesses. Durability is reduced on targets hit reducing the amount debuffed by 1 per additional target and increasing the debuffed amount by 1 for every round the Hex is maintained. This can also suppress or prevent Buffs and Healing may even be reversed if Waylynn has the appropriate power in a clash.
