For reasons that were believed to be the result of the antics of the local youth, scarecrows have been popping up in the fields in specific bits of farmland. While this was by itself not the worst thing, they seem to move around a lot as the local farmers have reported trespassers around the house by people dressed as scarecrows. When returning to work the fields the next day, the scarecrows in the field seem to have moved into another section of the farmland, though no tracks can be found. When checked out, the scarecrows seem to be just that, men of straw and cloth, although no one dares check them out at night. This is where you come in.

It was “Spooky” season as everyone seemed to call it. The leaves were changing colors and the air was getting colder day by day, signaling that winter was on its way. The crops in the fields were almost ready to be harvested and everyone was getting into the season by decorating the villages and towns with carved pumpkins and fake skeletons. It was a might festive time of the year for all those in the Clover kingdom, but there was as strange undertone for the whole festive attitude because it was also around this time that things that normally never were seen or heard of started to appear, ghosts, werewolves, zombies and more seem to always make their way into the rumor mill around this time period every year and this year was no exception. [break][break]
Though this time it would seem that the rumors centered around living scarecrow or what it probably was, was just a bunch of kids from the nearby area pranking the farmers by moving their scarecrow every night. Though since it was an official request Tokage decided it would be best to go ahead and see what he could find out about the situation and the circumstances surrounding it. Making his way from the Common Region into the Forsaken region had been quite the journey but since he was always moving around the kingdom anyways it wasn’t that big of a deal. Tokage quickly made his way to the town hall of the small village where the request was from, approaching the counter Tokage made himself known to the clerk working there. “Hello I am here about a request about some very active Scarecrows?” Tokage asked with a hint of sarcasm, it sounded ridiculous that these scarecrow were moving on their own. “Ah yes, that would be old Mcdonnell’s farm. Whatever or whoever is doing this has been causing quite a stir with their antics. If you take the main road just outside to the outskirts of the town you will see a large farm that currently has corn in it and a bright red barn behind a two story house with blue siding. When you get there Mcdonnell will inform you more about the situation and other details. Though there is suppose to be another person to help with this request, you can wait here for them or at the house either way we will make sure they get there.” The clerk calmly explained to Tokage.[break][break]
“I’ll just wait here for them then just to keep things simple, No reason to make more work for anyone.” Tokage said with a smile and he went over to the chairs in the hall that were meant for people waiting to be seen by the clerk himself. “Well, now I got nothing to do but wait for whoever my companion will be for this task.” Tokage said to himself as he begun to ponder over the request itself.[break][break]

TL;DR Tokage has arrived at the town hall and got directions to where to go from the clerk for the request. He was informed that there is suppose to be someone else there to help and has chosen to take a sit and wait for their arrival so they can go together to the client.
[attr="class","noahtext"] The jobs were multiplying as never before, it made Noah think that there was something about what Barron Castle, the captain of Green Mantis said at the start of the Spirit Festival. The paranormal activity certainly seemed to rise up, and with that, the nature of the jobs changed too. Whether it was helping lost imps, slaying zombies for fun, or weird scarecrows. The connection to the world of the dead was certainly more present than any other time of the year.[break] Young mage had no objections thought, it was good pay and with winter coming he needed a lot of things to buy. Noah was currently on a broom, flying from Aries Garse where his other job was located at. The Forsaken region certainly seemed to be popular this season, as most of the events happening were located in it. It made sense, he couldn’t imagine anything like this happening in Royal Capital after all. Although, the idea of swarms of zombies flooding through its streets was certainly amusing, at least for Noah. He managed to get this job from a man who stopped him at the Spirit Festival. He wasn’t exactly sure why the man asked Noah to do this job, maybe it was the Golden Dawn mantle, or maybe he tried multiple people and Noah was the stupid one who replied. [break] Either way, here he was, on his way towards the vast lands of the Forsaken region. Holding a paper in his hand with a brief description of the task to perform, he would quickly scan the sheet of paper before landing in a small village located in the middle of nowhere. Noah was certainly getting better with the navigation here, as it wasn’t an unknown territory anymore. Besides that, he knew that there was an extra soft bed waiting for him in the Golden Dawn headquarters after all of this would be done. Noah was directly headed towards the town hall, as it was always the best way to find some information. His walk was rather melancholic, maybe he was overworking himself a little too much, and the view of people barely surviving with very little that they had didn’t help. After reaching the entrance to the giant doors, he saw a young man without any mantle, but it was obvious that he didn’t belong here. [break] Noah would just offer a friendly smile, being a little tired from the road as he spoke. “Hello, my name´s Noah and I believe we are investigating the levitating scarecrows together?” Noah scratched his head, he couldn’t believe what he just said. Even the imps made more sense, but given how things usually went, he was already convinced that it probably wasn’t any ordinary scarecrows, or just some children moving them around to mess with the farmer. Most of the time he would think the exact opposite, but he was also proven wrong quite quickly after each of those times. Hoping the mage would introduce himself, Noah continued. “I apologize if I am late. As far as I know, the description of the job was rather vague. Did you manage to gather any information meanwhile, or should we go in and speak to someone?” Noah had then desperately stretched his back, all that riding on the broom was taking a toll on his body and he didn’t like it. [break] Trying not to look too tired, he quickly added. “Either way, please lead the way. Sorry, I am not in the best condition but I will do my best.” He smiled, and with this, he would just place his broom near the town hall, it wasn’t very likely that anyone would steal it, as it was just an old rugged broom after all. The young mage would just then wait for any further information and follow Tokage accordingly.

It didn’t seem like Tokage was going to have to wait long for his companion for this task, which Tokage always appreciated nothing was worse then sitting and waiting around. At first Tokage didn’t know that the short blonde hair boy was going to be his companion till the clerk directed the mage towards him. From the mage’s mantle Tokage knew he was from the Golden Dawn, which was quite the concidence with Tokage’s half brother being the Captain of that very squad.[break][break]
“Hello, my name´s Noah and I believe we are investigating the levitating scarecrows together?” The newly introduced mage said to Tokage.[break][break]
“Pleasure to meet you, I am Tokage and yes it looks like we will be doing this task together.” Tokage said with a slight smile. Tokage continued after he listen to Noah ask about details and saying Tokage was welcome to lead the way forward. “From what the Clerk told me We need to get on the main road to the outskirts to the Mcdonnell’s farm. It is on the outskirts of town, surrounded by corn and has a two story red barn and the main house is another two story blue house.” Tokage explained as smoothly as possible. “Also it is there we will be getting the rest of the information from the client themselves, so let us be on our way.” Tokage finished as he started to head towards the main road, luckily the town wasn’t a massive one or this kind of traveling might take some time they were able to see which direction to go since the Clerk hadn’t mentioned taking a left or right once you got onto the main road as they could see the building in question in the distance just to their left.[break][break]
“Well at least finding the place will be simple.” Tokage mentioned as he started making his way towards the Mcdonnell farm. “So Noah I see you are a Golden Dawn member.” Tokage would point out Noah’s mantle, “Do you interact with Zaven Blake often?” he would question as they made their way to the client’s place. He was quite curious on what others impression was of his brother and just the general feel of the man, Tokage hadn’t yet been able to interact with Zaven as of yet due to his constant traveling and training. It seemed like their meeting as a family might be held off for quite some time but Tokage wasn’t annoyed or impatient as he would just use this time to strengthen himself and improve his understanding of how Zaven’s “kingdom” actually ran. “By the way I’m just asking to ask, I’ve toyed with the idea of joining the Magic Knights but I missed the last exam so its just up in the air on if I’ll try for next exam.” Tokage mentioned as he realized to suddenly ask about someone’s captain and if someone interacted with them often might come off as strange or suspicious. [break][break]
[attr="class","noahtext"] Noah was caught off guard when the dark mage asked him directly about Zaven Blake and Golden Dawn. He couldn’t blame him, since when he was trying to join the squad, he was also this straight with questions. He just smiled, it looked like some of his fatigue went away, and spoke. “Yeah, I have been actually recruited directly by him. I missed the Magic Knights exams as well and therefore decided to head over to the Shadowlands to the Blake estate. It was actually quite an experience.” He stopped, as he briefly remembered his first encounter with the Shadow of Dawn. “I was there for a month and trained with the captain. Part of the training was also doing some works for Regnum Umbra, as it was founded very recently. It is a beautiful province, gives some sense of hope and peace… But from that moment on we haven’t really talked to each other, I take it he has a lot of things to deal with and I am also trying to rise up in the ranking.” He would just remember as he was walking away from the Shadow Realm, that place really became his home for a month and somehow grew close to his heart. “Are you also aiming for Golden Dawn? I am a very recent recruit so I am really not able to elaborate on the squad itself, met only a couple of people from it so far.” It was nice to know someone who could potentially join the squad, even if he wasn’t really sure what squad was Tokage aiming for. [break] With this talk, Noah has completely managed to miss the fact that they are already at the farm. The sun was slowly setting down, and it seemed just like the right time to arrive. There was already an older man stepping from one foot to another, nervously waiting for two young mages to arrive. “Ah! Here you are finally. Been waiting here for hours.” The man was rather rude, and as Noah was quite used to his behavior, he just sighed. “Hello sir, we are here to examine your problem.” The young mage still wasn’t sure how to address it, levitating scarecrows? It sounded hilarious, however, the man looked like he was about to lose his cool any moment now, and therefore Noah just waited for an answer. [break] “Yes, I know! These damned trespassers think they can toy with me! Well, I will show them! They usually appear at night, over that field.” He pointed at the now harvested field of what were probably potatoes and then continued. “Find those hooligans and kill them for all I care!” With this, the man would just furiously leave two mages on their own, and went back into his house, closing the door really heavily, that it looked like the glass on them would break. Noah, a little hopeless just turned around on Tokage and smiled once again. “I guess this is what we are dealing with.” He then started walking towards the field, to see if there are any suspicious things happening. [break] It in fact looked like an extremely ordinary field, no footsteps, nothing. “If I understand it correctly, these scarecrows are moving during the night, without any signs of footsteps or anything. I don’t know, but it certainly doesn’t seem like a big deal to me at least.” As the farmer was gone, he could speak freely and was curious to see what Tokage thinks of the situation. It was getting dark, and Noah realized that he didn’t have any light source to actually try and grasp what is happening around him. This would make the whole job just more complicated. “Do you have any means of illuminating the field? I stupidly forgot anything that could illuminate the way for us. I have also sensory skills, but they are quite… unpolished at the moment.” Hoping that Tokage would have something, Noah stopped at one scarecrow. Checking it out, it smelled bad, but if it was there the whole day, it was sure full of molds.[break] “I don’t see, hear or feel anything suspicious. This seems like a really good prank on a really good person if I am honest.” Suddenly, he felt something moving around his feet and he jumped, letting a little scream out of his mouth for a brief moment. It was really gloomy right now, so he couldn’t tell what exactly it was. After trying to kick it, he heard a little squeak, it was a little rodent that was making his way over the field, up until Noah´s feet had blocked its way. “Oops, sorry.” He spoke as if the rat understood him. He let it run away while trying to stay alert. Were they going to stay here all night, waiting for something creepy to happen? [break] “What was that?” The gravity mage asked as he heard a terrible squeak, that seemed to come from the same rat that he just encountered, but only like ten meters away. Quickly trying to utilize his sensory, which wasn’t useless if it was a really close direction, Noah had jumped back, turning to Tokage. “There are at least ten mana sources coming our way, I think it´s some weaker mana creatures.” After he finished this, it seemed like he didn’t have to elaborate anymore, as he heard an evil cacophony of cackles, it seemed like ten birds were flying their way, like exactly their way, as if they wanted to attack them. “Do you have the means to protect yourself?” He asked a little worried, just to be ready for the worst scenario, even though he knew that Tokage had at least a sword on him.

It was interesting hearing someone talk about his half brother. Tokage himself had spent some time in Umbra learning about the province and various things about the Blake family as he tried to bridge that gap between the image he grew up with and reality. He was glad that he didn’t come off as weird or suspicious asking about Zaven, he didn’t have time to deal with that misunderstanding. “So you got recruited by the big guy himself that’s pretty impressive he tends to be a stickler for who he chooses from what I understand.” Tokage mentioned as he listened to Noah explain how he came to meet Zaven and how he was recruited into the Golden Dawn. It sounded pretty straight on about his brother from what he himself had experienced when they went through the Dungeon together.[break][break]
“Oh no at least not at the moment I don’t have any desire to join one of the Magic Knight squads.” He replied to the mage’s question. “Maybe some time in the future but at the moment I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do.” Tokage admitted which he found slightly weird since he was sure he had to be older then Noah and yet the younger mage already had basically a set career to work with and on for the foreseeable future. Tokage thought to himself that maybe he would help Zaven with governing Umbra as an advisor or if he got strong enough and rose through the ranks maybe even one of his generals but those were things that were more like wisps of smoke then anything solid.[break][break]
They arrived at the home and the farmer was nervously pacing outside of his home, which Tokage could understand though he was still slightly annoyed by the slight condescending tone the Farmer took on them when they arrived. Noah took the lead on handling the talking so Tokage focused more on the surroundings, form where they stood they could look over a good portion of the field and even at that moment Tokage could see some of the aforementioned Scarecrows and they looked fairly standard, straw hat, cloth sack body some sticks for arms. Nothing that really stood out of the normal. For once Tokage was glad he didn’t have to take the lead on a mission and was fine with the Magic Knight handling all that business cause for some reason he felt that he might have come off as snide if he had to deal with the farmer himself. [break][break]
The sky was getting darker and Noah pointed out that they needed something to illuminate area if they were going to inspect the scarecrows and asked Tokage if he had any way to do so to which the young shengxiao shook his head, “No I don’t sadly. I’m sure if we make good pace we can inspect them all before the final light is gone.” As they went around looking at the scarecrows Tokage wasn’t able to tell anything about the scarecrows besides the fact that they were just regular scarecrows or at least to Tokage they were and it seemed that Noah shared the same sentiment. It seemed that this would just be a wild goose chase with no end when Noah yelped and then apologized to something, Tokage guessed some bug or critter must have touched him but when Noah brought up if he was able to defend himself and how some mana signatures were suddenly coming towards them Tokage was put on the alert. It wasn’t long till he could hear the flapping of wings from what he could tell was from some massive crows whose eyes seemed to shine as bright as the moon itself.[break][break]
“Yes I’ll be able to defend myself.” Tokage assured as he begun to cast his spells. Starting with Mastiff he whistled a low tune and called forth his Golem dog, a large 4 meter in height creature. “You protect me from them.” Tokage issued his command and begun to cast his second spell which was Arrow, lifting his arms as if he was wielding a bow one started to manifest from his grimoire and as he pulled back the arrow of pure darkness begun to form. Tokage hoped that with the low light his magic would be hard to see for the crows and fired two bolts at the crows from his arrow spell. The first one completely missed the Crow but spooked them enough to let Tokage know they didn’t have perfect vision in the dark either. The second arrow caught one of the crows smack in the middle of its chest causing it to fall to the ground dead, it was more luck then anything as Tokage noticed he was going to need to lead these shots quite a bit as the crows were slightly faster then his spells. [break][break]
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll start hitting the more often once I get use to their speed.” Tokage assured Noah as he fully concentrated on the crows circling around them.[break][break]

[attr="class","noahtext"] As the battle unfolded, Noah got instantly surprised by the magic of young Shengxiao. Dark was quite a rare element, and this was the first time he witnessed it in person. It made the young mage regret that the only illumination they had right now was a very faint moon glow, making his magic harder to see. However, there wasn’t much space for admiration, as crows have made their way towards the duo of mages and started attacking. They were most likely regular crows, but something felt off about them. Noah couldn’t grasp what exactly that was and therefore decided to spectate for a while, occasionally jumping to avoid attacks by the birds. [break] Seeing that Tokage already managed to shoot one of them down, it only fortified Noah´s initial assumption – those were indeed just regular crows that could be killed like regular birds. Why were they so vicious though? As far as Noah knew, they weren’t carnivores and hardly confrontational. Yet these crows seemed murderous to say the least. The crows were getting faster, and Noah started to have issues with avoiding their attacks, mostly due to the fact that he couldn’t really see them, and his sensory could help only so much. It was time to end this, as it seemed like holding on for longer could just lead to more trouble. [break] Two of them were surrounded by a flock of the crows, circling around them and occasionally attempting to attack with their claws and pecks. Unfortunately for them, this was the best position Noah could have hoped for. After taking a couple of scratches from the crows, Noah would finally lift his right hand up as an orb of his mana started forming about a meter above him. “Encompassing Presence.” Being formed in a brief moment, the orb radiated with mana, and those with proper sensing skills could see the light grey colour it oozed, filling the area around them with it. Crows started squeaking from agony, as the sound of their bones cracking resonated throughout the field. The orb of Noah´s mana was sucking them in, and it didn’t take too long before the vicious squeaking stopped, signalizing that all of them were dead. Noah calmly deactivated the spell, making all of the corpses fall on the ground, and accidentally letting two of them hit his head, as he obviously didn’t plan this ahead. [break] “Well, this was disgusting.” He said, looking at the pool of dead birds lying on the ground. “But I guess it makes sense? If these crows were the ones moving the scarecrows, it would explain why there were no footprints on the ground. But they certainly weren’t ordinary crows, it almost felt like they were being controlled by someone or something.” Noah shared the information he managed to gather during this short encounter and waited for Tokage to share his. They just had to be alert for the rest of the night now, in case some more of the birds decided to show up and do some shenanigans. [break] [exit]

Elemental Type: Gravity Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate | Attack Creation | Restraining Range & Speed: 40 meters | 10 m/s | AoE 20 meters Mana Cost: 24 | 12 Stats Effected: -5 m/s Speed, Control -5 Applicable Perks: World Binding Description: This spell is activated by Noah pointing his hand onto a place in his sight and saying the name of the spell. After that a small orb of his mana is released onto that place and this orb will attempt to draw in everything within the range of 20 meters that is lighter than 600 lbs and no bigger in size than 6 meters. Due to the sheer force of gravity, anything affected with this spell will take intermediate rank of damage in form of moderate bone cracks or minor breaks, as well as become restrained, having their movement speed and control stat lowered. This spell is invisible, as long as the enemy doesn’t have 30 sensory. This spell can be broken via the according Restraining rules, having lowered durability because of it being an AoE. Based on the ammo rules, Noah can create multiple instances of the orbs as long as he has needed control to do so, however only one of the orbs remains AoE.

Tokage watched as Noah was able to expertly get rid of the rest of the Crows with a single spell. He was feeling a slight pang of jealousy since his magic had yet to get to that point and due to its slow nature he wasn’t sure if he would be able to use it as easily as the other mage seemed to be able to do. It was something he was going to have to work on and research if he was going to continue to grow as a mage himself. “I could see that being the reasoning behind moving the scarecrows though that kind of ability seems wasted on terrorizing a simple farmer.” Tokage agreed with Noah’s assumption and wondered who would go through the trouble of controlling these beasts just to mess with a single family. There had to be something more going on behind the scene that they weren’t being told about, maybe a slighted rival or something. For now Tokage simply sat back and stayed on alert along side Noah for the night in case anymore beasts came to cause any kind of trouble though it looked like luck was on their side for the rest of the night as no others came out of the woods.[break][break]
“We will have to ask more about this to the farmer as soon as we get a chance.” Tokage said as the sun started to come out over the horizon.[break][break]
