[attr="class","frankiescroll"] With the snowmen defeated Frankie finally had gained a little bit of breathing room. Although the powdery constructs had been numerous in number thankfully they were limited in their strength and finite. Griswold had proven to be more then capable in dispatching the lot of them and as the numbers reduced it grew easier for Frankie's golems to see to the residents and their homes, mitigating as much damage as possible. In the end the mad mage felt fairly confident that they had not only saved everyone from potentially being frozen to death, but none had sustained any injuries during the snowmen's assault either. No doubt some basic repairs would need to be carried out once all of this was over, but those should be fairly easy enough to see and he doubted the cost would be significant. A likely appreciated alternative to what could have transpired had the duo not been in the city. Still, things were not likely to be over just yet. Whoever was behind the assault had shown a malicious desire to do harm on the city. They had been defeated twice now and they weren't likely to just slink off.
Just as Frankie was thinking this a voice boomed throughout the city, clearly audible for Frankie and likely Griswold nearby too. "GRRRRR! I shall not have this! This is preposterous! Ridiculous! My Snow? My Army? Well I shall take my revenge. This Holiday shall not be defiled! Let me teach you of the true hymns of Yule!" The voice was the same one which had spoken out prior to the attack of the snow golems and just as Franklin had predicted it was a sign of more to come. The ground shook, a small earthquake sending tremors throughout the city. However, these quakes came not from one focal point, but rather four distinct directions from where Frankie stood. Immediately, the studious mage realized this couldn't be an earthquake. It was obvious that the voice was behind this too, but had it been an earthquake it should have only come from one point. Even as Frankie thought this he could just start to make out the towers as they rose in the city landscape, jutting out above the buildings that were nearby. The Carbon wizard had to bring up a quick mental image of the city even as he watched, attempting to ascertain whether the rise of the towers had resulted in the destruction of any buildings that might have been in their path.
The attack didn't simply end though with the rise of the towers. The ground ceased its shaking as they finished their construction, but within each tower one could just make out a large bell that stood at the peak of each. The bells almost matched something you might see in one of the local churches, used to call parishioners during time of prayer. However, these were much larger in scale and likely not designed for anything the Church would approve of. The towers only remained still for a long second before suddenly each bell moved in tandem. As the bells rocked for the first time the ringing sound they produced seemed to reverberate throughout the entire market square. Frankie was just far enough where he stood that he couldn't fully make out whatever sound they were producing. They might have even been on a frequency he couldn't fully capture with him limited range of hearing unless he drew much closer to the towers. However, a few unfortunate citizens had not been able to escape to a home during all of the chaos and they had been trapped in the market. Whatever sound the bells were producing these citizens could clearly hear them as Frankie could make out agonized shouts that quickly devolved into droning moans.
From his position only one of the towers were within full line of sight that he could make out the citizens who had been effected. Rather than be physically harmed by whatever was being done through the bells the people instead looked physically and perhaps mentally changed. Frankie watched as they shambled around appearing for all intents and purposes to have become the walking dead. For now at least the zombies didn't seem to be attacking each other. However, they were clearly hostile as they moved around smashing the market tables and general area in much the same way that the snowmen had been acting previously. Frankie suspected that they would likely attack any living being other then a zombie who approached as well. Frankie had some limited understanding of the undead at this point, but given all the various forms it could come in he couldn't say with any certainty if the change that had occurred to these people were permanent or not. It was possible that if they destroyed whatever had altered them or the spellcaster who was behind all this then the effects would end and they could be rescued. It was also always possible that if they were captured Frankie could find some way to cure them or see if Healing magic would work. It seemed reckless to attack them unless the pair was given no choice.
"It appears that the person behind all this isn't done with the city just yet! Any theories on the towers? It clearly changed the people, but will we be able to get close to it without it changing us?" Frankie knew without having to do the calculations that he would not likely be of much use against the towers. He could likely send in his golems to destroy them, but he wasn't sure on what the timetable would be for that. If the bells on the towers could change him much like they had the townsfolk then he wasn't going to be able to get anywhere near close enough and that could impact the golems since they could only move so far away from him before they simply went inert. Unlike Griswold he had not developed any sort of Attack Creation magic so there was nothing he could do from a distance that could harm the towers. He could however potentially help in getting the controlled innocent bystanders out of the way of Griswold. "I could potentially create a flying golem you can use to attack if you need to. I also have spells that will not inflict physical harm, but would render the zombie citizens relatively immobile. I'll follow your lead Griswold." Frankie had taken some relative command in the previous engagement against the snowmen, but now that they were dealing with the wellbeing of innocent people he would defer to the more experienced Griswold. Frankie had spells that could drain their mana to put them unconscious or reduce their speed to the point where they couldn't move to intercede. However, he wasn't about to start casting any of those options until he and Griswold were on the same page. Whatever the other man decided on Frankie would go along with it.
Combat Summary
[attr="class","frankiescroll2"]
Notes Same voice is heard from the snowmen attack. Towers rise with bells causing some of the citizenry to turn into zombie like creatures. Frankie comments about the nature of the bells seeing what Griswold thinks and then offers a couple of things he can do to assist while making it clear he will follow Griswold's lead.

Never being the kind that assumed anything was over until it was actually over, the voice booming through the streets of Aries Garse yet again did not come as the kind of surprise it likely should have been. To see that its army had been defeated had clearly angered whoever was behind all of this, but not enough for them to just give up on the whole thing. Acting as if it was somehow trying to save Yule instead of ruining it the way that it was, whatever they were dealing with was clearly delusional. Still, them being delusional was not something that would work in their favor. In fact, them being delusional made them that much harder to figure out and deal with properly, and that was not a good thing. It kept the both of them from getting ahead of this guy, or woman, or whatever the hell it was as they still had no idea.
But the one thing that was clear were the strange towers that had just appeared, and the effect they were seemingly having on the people that got close to them. For once they activated, they fell to the ground and started experiencing spasms and what seemed like full body shut-down before they got back up in a ravenous state. Being quite different from all of the snow that they had been dealing with up until this point, the pattern he believed to have seen with this particular villain had already disappeared. After all, these kinds of “zombies” were being controlled by the tower, and were affected while standing within the range of this tower, and that had nothing to do with snow whatsoever. But watching as some fell to the ground before going berserk while others did not, it did give him a pretty good idea as to how far this area reached.
So as Franklin was more or else drumming up what he saw and the idea that came along with it, Griswold was factoring in the things he saw with the things heard in order to devise some level of a plan. Not quite sure whether all of the people being controlled by the towers or pillars or whatever they were were incapable of being turned back once the towers fell, he did not want to go in with the intention of outright killing everyone yet. But right now, they also had to go around defending those that had not been turned, as they were also in clear and present danger. Besides, if they were to run in the wrong direction and fell into another one of these control zones cast by one of the other towers, that just meant more zombies that needed to be dealt with and defended against.
“Well, this turned into a massive clusterfuck real quick…”
Having no other way to truly put to words what he was feeling, what Franklin said regarding the towers was true. Just because they had their mana skin protecting them, that did not mean that they would be impervious to the effects of the tower, meaning they too might fall under its control. And if that happened, whoever was getting sent in to take over for them was going to be in for a lot of trouble if they had to also face Franklin and Griswold head on. But that gave him an idea. Holding out his hand before firing a bolt of mana into one of the towers closest from where they were. With his shot easily reaching a hundred meters, the exploding projectile caused the tower to collapse, causing a portion of the people that had been taken over to just go limp and drop to the floor.
Not yet knowing whether that was a good or a bad thing, it at the very least meant they had a little bit less to worry about in terms of combatants on the field. Believing it to be best to tend to those that had keeled over at a later point, he turned his attention to some of the controlled that came towards them. With a few swift blows, he took out four separate drones, as it seemed like they were still just civilians at the end of the day, meaning the tower was not giving them any sort of enhancements or snow or ice related capabilities. Again, this seemed odd as it had nothing to do with what they had seen from this opponent up until now. With the amount of people that were still in danger however, he could not risk standing around and pondering on every little detail. Instead, he could just mull it over in his head while on the fly.
“Take your golems and protect the normal people from the ravenous, I’ll focus on destroying all of the pillars from a distance. Once they’re all down, we’re going to track down whoever is causing all of this and get it all over with.”
And with that, he began moving as quickly as he could to get to the next destination. Normally, he would have taken to the rooftops and gone from there, but seeing as how there were people that needed protecting along the way, he was choosing the path of most resistance. Punching out a number of controlled civilians along the way to the next tower, he tried directing the people towards the direction of the tower that had already fallen, believing that to clearly be the best place to escape to as it was furthest from the controlled while being the least likely place for them all to end up getting controlled. And once Franklin deployed his golems, he figured most of the people would be well enough protected by the physically superior constructs standing between them and the berserkers. At least that was his intention, though there was no way of knowing whether that would work out.
Right now, all he could do was to take care of some of the controlled along the way while taking out this next tower, after which there would still be two more of them that needed to take out. So as he punched one of the controlled so hard they knocked into another that stood in his way, he got to fire a clean shot straight at the pillar. Breaking his shot down into various smaller spheres that would converge upon the tower and rip it to shreds in several spots at the same time, the construct weakened and began to crumble down to the ground. Again, just like the first time, the controlled that had been infected by that particular tower suddenly went limp as they fell to the ground like a bunch of dolls, seemingly devoid of life. But refusing to believe that all of these people had just died, he kept himself from the urge to check for a pulse as the needs of the many in this case outweighed the needs of the few.
And as long as those last towers remained in effect, a lot of other people were still going to get injured or even killed because of it, and that would not stand.

Initialized by first making himself glow before firing them, in addition, these projectiles flare up from time to time, allowing them to blind those looking at it for one whole post.
