[attr="class","shadowsHead"]Even a Woman Can be a Killer
There’s a general belief among the underground that women are worse at murder than men are. They get inflicted by this thing called “emotions” at the last minute. Your job is to train a room of about 10 women how to kill. Good luck. Treat this with professionalism.

The Zhongli found herself in Aries Garse and under contract to train fellow woman in the arts of murder. Most wouldn't feel comfortable taking lessons for such a thing from a girl of Yu-Jie's stature. It went to show why women were oftentimes overlooked when it came to their capacity for delivering death. Most thought of them as weak and feeble creatures who are slaves to their emotions. Though that notion held some validity, it wasn't just true, but also a misconception. Yu-Jie was never raised not knowing this. Jukane - her mother was a powerful and dangerous woman in her own right, something the Zhongli has witnessed. Her ruthless nature is akin to the most cold-hearted of animals.
There weren't many people who knew of Yu-Jie's prowess for murder, in fact, not many got to see her in action as she preferred to keep her assassinations silent and without witnesses. When Yu-Jie attempted to take the job she had gotten a wry, suspenseful look from the woman who was orchestrating this whole event for their group. The rogue imagined it was just a simple gathering of women who were fed up with male dogma. Especially when you were a rogue as a woman, it came with the kind of stigma that was not well received by them. Yu-Jie for sure hated to be underestimated because of gender, which is why this mission resonated with her. Now, Yu-Jie was ambling towards the meet-up location for the training.
Yu-Jie was told that there would possibly be another person taking part to help her refine these fellow female rogues into sharpened weapons, equipped to handle whatever trouble comes their way. The girl didn't plan on teaching them the exact things she was taught at home within the Zhongli Compound, but she could show them some very easy-to-execute moves. Finding herself at the entrance of the building, Yu-Jie would walk in and greet the woman to who she had applied. Yu-Jie thanked her for having her and that she would do her best to get the ladies into tip-top shape. With that said, she was guided into the main room, which did not look like a training room, but instead a room that was obviously repurposed to be used for training. There were roughly ten women of various ages and appearances.
One of the women who was running the operation and had started the all-female rogue group would whisper to Yu-Jie that the other trainer would be arriving shortly and when they did she could go ahead and start. So for the time being, Yu-Jie was stretching. As she did the rogue could feel her muscles being pulled and become activated. Hopefully the extra she was waiting on would not take much longer as she was ready to start. WC: 466 Sayuri

Even as night hung over the thoroughfare, an assortment of lights decorated every block; punctuated by the hustle and bustle of couples and cliques that filled the streets with laughter and chatter. As daylight waned, did the town come to life as casinos and taverns hailed customers with the inviting glow of its interior lights, beckoning them and their coin purses to seek harbor within its venue.
Sayuri had extended her commission on the hansom that had taken her up to The Cursed Forest in The Rogue’s Refuge having completed Lord Grim’s request to conduct an investigation of the premises and unravel the true culprit, who turned out to be a hag that preyed on those in the refuge, stealing their possessions and feasting on their bodies. Thinking about it was enough to make the blood run cold. At least she came to know three other gentlemen on her outing: Lex, Cerberus, and Mania—one of them had even joined her on the ride back to town, providing her an opportunity to gently nudge at the nature of the curious mercury rogue—and when it came time for their departure, he vanished into the crowd of people without ceremony, like a chameleon.
Her reminiscence reminded her that now, having completed her mentorship under Xai, she was alone, and in some moments, the solitude had felt suffocating. But what was she to do? She was now on her way back to The Common Region with not but the company of the carriage driver who wasn’t much for conversation… Although, she still had some spare time before Lord Grim would expect her back. There was a tavern she and Xai used to visit all the time, with a begrudgingly lovable, old wise guy...
“Hey, could you stop at the tavern just up ahead?”
“Ah, that one… The Moonlit Rabbit? Aren’t you a little young for that?” The driver said with a chuckle.
“—I’m old enough to pay you for where I want to go, aren’t I?”
The driver stifled a laugh. “That you are. Twas just curious, y’know?”
The carriage would park just next to The Moonlit Rabbit. Light gleamed from the windows and she could see that the place still had some business, but couldn’t make out that many people from the outside. She got off the carriage and removed enough coins from her main pouch to pay for her trip.
The driver blew out a large puff of smoke into the street as he waited, and happily accepted the coins. “Thanks for the business. Oh, before you go, remind ol’ Harley that he still owes me.” He tapped his cigarette. “Alec Windrow. It’s impolite to keep a gentleman waiting too long for ere’ dues.”
“You could come in and tell him yourself.”
“Nah. Just be a waste of time. ‘Know he ain’t got nothing on him anyhow, so I just want to give him a little nudge in the right direction. That alright, doll?”
“…I’ll be sure to give him the message.”
“Cheers!” He said with a tonal glee before his carriage took off into the streets with a rhythmic trodding.
She turned her back on the main road and faced the tavern, opening the door and stepping into the warmth of the little hole-in-the-wall venue. Familiar lantern lights hung from the ceiling over wooden tables and chairs empty of personage; in fact, the only people gathered in the shop were herself, Harley Tailing standing behind the counter, and a woman with wavy, flowing orange hair sitting across from him. They hadn’t noticed her yet, too busy in their conversation, so she crept up closer.
“So, you see, I’ll have your money soon. It’s just taking a while.” He took some alcohol from behind the counter and poured it into the woman’s glass.
“How much longer is ‘a while’ going to take?”
“Give me about two weeks—nay, a week, tops—and you’ll have your Yul!”
“Listen, Tailing. I don’t have time for a week.”
“Hey! Now don’t go doing that—you know it’s Harley.” His hands stretched onto the counter. “We’ve been in the business for a long time, Val. You know I pay on time. This is just some fickle fortune. Just give me some time, and you’ll have your money plus compensation~”
“You know what happens to businesses that can’t pay their debts around here.” A beat passed, and Val continued. “Three Days, Mr. Tailing. Our lot has given you protection for a while, and it seems you’ve taken our services for granted.”
—Sayuri decided to take a seat by the counter, next to the woman. “Hey Harley,” She waved. “What’s going on?”
“Oh, it’s you, kid!” His face swelled with relief. “It’s great to see you. Tell me, where’s that old crimson devil, huh? Is he with you?”
She shook her head.
“We haven’t been traveling together for a while. Truthfully, I was hoping I might run into him here.”
“Bah! That old coot is probably off somewhere in another town, sticking his nose where it don’t belong.” Noticing the change in topic, Val got up from her seat and began to leave. ”Hey now! We’re not done. We’re going to work something out and leave here square.”
“What is there to work out? You have three days to pay your due, or you’ll pay more in damages.”
“No, no, no. You see, my friend here is a skilled apprentice of one you may know as Xai. She’s an expert—no a maestro in the art of crime—a femme fatale!~”
Val looked Sayuri over. “Really? She doesn’t look like much to me.”
“Looks can be deceiving! In your line of work, I’d say that’s an advantage. Surely, you must have a job where she could prove her mettle.”
“Wait, what are you signing me up for?”
“Well, there is something…” Val considered. “…Provided the girl accepts.”
*
Harley would not get away with this, she stewed. Her memories betrayed her!
She was taken to one of the many gambling casinos in Aries Garse; although this one in particular, the Silver Duchess, was a front for a rogue operation. Apparently it was an all-woman crew that was up and coming in Aries Garse. From her brief conversation with Val, she found out that they offered protection services, low-profile theft, with a dash of property damage thrown into the mix that they cleverly threaten non-paying clients with. Recently, Val had felt a desire to expand into taking on assassination contracts, but a large portion of their fledgling members were divided—If, instead of letting them go, they could keep them on and take on the new high-paying assassination contracts, that would be more than enough to settle Harley’s debt with the group.
“Right through there,” Val gestured for her to take the backroom of the casino.
The room led into some kind of intermediary chamber where another woman immediately greeted her. “You must be the other mentor.” She said, with a certain disinterest. “What’s your body count?”
“Body count?”
The woman sighed. “How many people have you killed?”
“That’s confidential!” Sayuri said, as the woman raised an eyebrow at her. “...What does it matter if I can do the job?”
“…It’s yet to be seen that you can.” The two locked their gaze at each other rather determinedly. “Fine, fine. The other instructor is waiting for you in the main room. Get on with it.” With an acknowledging nod, Sayuri went on into the next room.
The room seemed haphazardly reinforced to use as a training room, with scuffed marks of furniture being moved out of the room, plates and boards newly screwed in, and seemingly nothing too valuable they’d regret to lose. Standing at the forefront of the room was a woman of about her own height, with emerald green hair and a black dress, and at the back of the room was a group of ten women who all seemed to vary in appearance, chattering amongst themselves waiting for the session to start.
How am I going to do this… She thought as she approached the other instructor. “Hi. I’m Sayuri,” she said, extending her hand for a greeting.
—”Hey, I don’t mean to be rude, but you two are our instructors?” One of the women called out from the crowd. “You don’t seem like trained killers at all!”
And another voice called out, inspired by the concern that preceded it. “How am I to learn from someone so young?”
…It incited a cacophony.
“This is what Valerie dragged up?”—”I can’t believe this…”—”This is a waste of time!”—”These girls couldn’t have killed anyone, just look at them!”
It was getting out of control, quickly.
“Hey!” She yelled out to the crowd, but it was lost amongst the concert of their voices. She had no choice. She took out her grimoire, as it glowed to life at her command and turned its pages till it met the one she desired— raising her left hand aloft, and five starlight swords amassed hovering above her. The crowd grew quiet.
“…Have you been disarmed because of our appearance?” Her cloak billowed from the concentration of mana as it focused into her grimoire, the gem fixed on the front cover radiating with a cosmic luster. “That doesn’t determine if someone can kill. It all comes down to magic and…” She dispelled the starlight swords just as quickly as they were summoned, “Determination. There is nothing else.”
She had their attention now.
One of them spoke, a bit mousier than what had been observed from the collaborative tirade. “… I don’t think I could live with myself if I killed someone… How is it possible?”
“It’s the first time—that’s the hardest. Once you’ve done it, hours after, there’s this… wave of disbelief that rushes over you. Taking a life. We’re taught to think of it as being more than it really is,” she began to walk around. “…The truth is, existence is very fragile. A person’s thoughts, dreams, ambitions, relationships, who they are entirely can all be snuffed out in a manner of seconds. Like nothing. And you expect to feel as though you’ve done something so heinous and irrevocable, something that you can never forgive yourself for…”
“…But the most haunting thing about it is the emptiness. Not feeling anything. No guilt, no sadness, no remorse. And after that, if you continue doing it, it becomes numbing. You think nothing of it after a while, it’s just something that you do; or you relish in it, and the adrenaline that you feel in the moment.”
“…How callous! I’m not like that.” The rogue woman who posed the question stated. “Taking a life is more than what you say.”
Those with this perk can reduce the required control it takes to produce extra ammo by -5. At Archmage this will increase to -10.
Description
"Your footwork has improved a great deal, Sayuri… but you’re still green when it comes to a fight. Unfortunately, the day approaches where we’ll soon part ways. I’d like to teach you a spell that’ll help create openings, as well as minimize your own.”
The spellcaster focuses their attention toward a fixed point in space by raising their left hand toward the space they which to appropriate for use of the spell, then by supplying mana through the conduit of the grimoire, the spellcaster's mana begins to take shape and the spell's effect becomes realized.
"Twilight Armiger - Celestial Blades" conjures a floating sword comprised of cosmic light, seventy-seven centimeters in length, that glides through the air to hit its target; after the initial invocation of the spell, the spellcaster must gesture in the direction of the opponent, either with the spellcaster’s hand pointing in the desired direction, or a held object extended forward and toward the target, this action acts as a launching mechanism to direct the shape of the concentrated mana into the desired target. This spell may appropriate use of the ammo rules to create additional starlight swords per 10 control possessed by the spellcaster, although the required control may be reduced by 5 with the perk Artillery Support.
On contact with a susceptible target, the spell deals Junior Rank damage as the formation of the blade disperses into lustrous particles, which manifests as first-degree or minor-second degree burns as the cosmic swords mimic the construction of a star, and weaponize the superheated nature of plasma. The impact of the spell is capable of knocking back the opponent by a Junior Amount of 2 Meters, and additionally 5 meters for every 10 points of power the spellcaster possesses.
“Some people believe certain designations of stars to watch over them. …We’ll be taking that literally for your training today.”

From dawn to noon ,to now Cerberus has found himself a nice haul of raw materials. Making weapons for people seems to be a profitable avenue, that can add to his potential income. Though he is a Noble he doesn’t want to ask for funding from his “Family”, he wants to set an example for his siblings, and Cerberus finds this method satisfying. It was nice of Ravanna tend to his “horse” while he has been away; though most people do want to use a “Broomstick” to get around, the Mana consumption just seems so unnecessary to him. A good “Shire” horse can easily traverse trails and even up steep cliffs given the proper training; due to his size Cerberus could easily spot new areas to explore.
Although he was not “delightfully lost” as he was last time he did enjoy this twilight ride. The road was so quiet like a graveyard that not even the call of “crickets” could pierce it. Though spring is in the air, it was still a bit chilly this far away from the capital and from his home of “Regnum Umbra”. From the map he has, he is deep in the “Forsaken” region, where the “knights” of Clover have very limited power. From the “meetings” with his “Lord”, Cerberus is classified as a “Rogue”, therefore his travels across the kingdom would go mostly unnoticed, so long as he isn’t caught with anything. The “cloak” he wore covered anything that would tip off his “status” except for his “Laurel”. Though it isn’t made of gold, the craftsmanship screams “expensive”; made from their collars and spun with his mana it fits his head perfectly. Keeping his hair in a more central location. His siblings and especially his mother adored how long it has grown, while his Father was proud of his accomplishments. He discussed his particular “Order” from their Lord and couldn’t be more proud; Lord Zaven is a formidable man and extraordinary Mage, serving him is going above and beyond the standards of being a “Hades”. Cerberus had acquired newfound knowledge from his Lord, and a list of families he should be weary of. Among then were two that stood out, “The Zhong’li’s” with their Assassins and many eyes, and the Jaeger’s whose ruler is feared among the underground. Echo Jaeger is someone with a rather interesting history, from his rise to power to his current threshold he has now. The one man who wields “Light” Magic and a dangerous ambition, is still lingering around Clover as a constant reminder.
Crossing him would mean certain death, however his “Lord’s” Orders did not say that Cerberus couldn’t flirt with “death”. Information is the name of the “Game” that Cerberus must play, and one he intends to rule. He will be his Lord’s, ”King of Whispers", and he will do it without spreading a single lie; while Zaven conscripts more pieces on this board Cerberus will remain as an “Observer” in the growing days, eager to answer his “Lord's” call.
Thunder roared over head as he spotted a town in the distance; securing his goods and equipment he pulled his “cloak’s” hood up urging his steed into a gallop. He quickly broke into the towns proper, when rain decided to grace the land, but that didn’t stop the “spirit” of the town. Lights illuminated every inch of the “Town” chasing out every shadow, laughter seemed to pour out of every brick adding to this rich feeling. A chorus of chatter, a chortle of laugher, and merry songs littered the streets from neighboring “Tavens” and delicious, places of “Sin”. Slowing to a humble trot, the gentle rain kissed at his cloak and gloves as he sat under a light. A small voice pierced through the atmosphere, and reached his ever sensitive hears
“‘Allo ,‘oo nee’ your horse looked afta?”
On his right side was a little boy, barely twelve years old; his clothes were….a mess, dirt covered them from boot to hem, but his face was clean. The straw colored hair on his head was plastered with rain while the cap aged cap did what it could to protect him. His coat had definitely seen better days, and he looked like he hasn’t seen a proper meal in a while. Lord Zaven, warned him about how proper he spoke, and not to reveal his last name; thankfully there is a rogue family who create “butlers” for hire and assassinate so he wouldn’t need to alter his appearance. Reaching down the boy took his hand as Cerberus pulled him up to his saddle; following the boys directions they came to a modest sized stable. A large man with an injured leg sat propped up against the wall. Noticing us he struggled to stand up as Cerberus dismounted, hoisting the kid off his large horse. Holding his reins he guided his horse closer~
“Dah, ah found someone!” he said excitedly
“Aye you did lad”, he chuckled
Looking at Cerberus he stood as straight as he could. He looked like he was in his early 30’s, a long beard adorned his face, in contrast to the shine of his bald head. He was about five foot eight inches tall and clearly wasn’t use to looking up at someone; Cerberus noticed the man’s eyes and followed them to his “Grimoire”.
“Wha’ is a Mage doin’, riding a “Shire”?, thought ye were all on broomsticks”, he asked
“My family prefers the companionship of horses over brooms. Fuels the sense of adventure, though brooms do have their uses.”
“Lookin’ like that?, wha’ are ye some sort of servant?”, he questioned
“More or less, I just like dressing like this.”, grins Cerberus. “Can I trust you two to watch over “Dusk” for me?, he is well trained and mild mannered.”
He stared up at Cerberus, eyes narrowing, almost in an attempt to stare into his soul. Meeting his gaze Cerberus smiled, causing the man to visibly flinch, but slowly he began smiling.
“Aye, we’ll look after ‘em. Word of the wise, if ye are goin’ to be ‘round these parts ye need t’ blend in. Ye are the first decent person ‘ave seen in a long time”.
Cerberus figured as much; a good percentage of the Rogue population look like they’re up to no good and or look like “Commoners”. Not owning a proper set of armor or gear more suited for these activities is disturbing, and something he can quickly correct. Handing over the reins he looked for his “purse”; out of habit he never carries all more than three hundred yul on him at any given time. But he doesn’t keep it all in one place ~
“That would be ten yul, lad”
“Right, here is thirty yul; for this excelled conversation”, Cerberus smiled
Both of them looked at him dumbfounded, and possibly in shock; about a minute passed of them staring at him when ~
“T-this is too much lad” he said warily
“Consider it a gift then; do you know of a decent place to lodge?”, Cerberus asked
“Um…da Moonlit Rabbit; the owner is a frien’ of da’s”
“Thank you little one”, dipping his head he took off his pack from “Dusk”, “good night”
Cerberus left the duo in and strolled off into the rain; the downpour only quickened his pace into the gloom. Other people ran from “dry spot” to “dry spot” trying to limit their exposure; in this moment Cerberus was one with his surroundings. Nobody stopped nor batted an eye at the tall man; Cerberus couldn’t detect anyone following him as he made his way further up the street until he saw a rather cute wooden sign with a white rabbit amidst a full moon. Entering the “tavern” caused the soft chime of it’s bell to sing alerting it’s patrons of his arrival; thankfully the denizens that have already found seating were preoccupied with their own lives to notice him. In comparison to the bars, pubs, brothels and taverns he has ventured to this one was surprisingly “clean”. The space had a dull “buzz” of conversation as food and drink were served; gliding over to the “bar” the “barkeeper” was ready for him. She had raven hair colored hair with a small cut on her left cheek, her brown eyes gleaned as she smiled up at him
“Welcome to the Moonlight Rabbit, are you looking for food, drink or a little of both?” she asked
“Saluton (Hello), and u~”, uttered Cerberus
He was about to continue when the womans eyes grew wider; she dipped her head rolling up her left sleeve revealing an impressive goetic tattoo
“Frato!, diru al mi el kiu klano vi estas (Brother tell me what clan are you from)”, she said excitedly
“Klano Hades, nu domo Hades (Clan Hades, well House Hades now)”, he replied
“Ah, le plej nova? (ah the newest one?)”, she pondered?
Raising a finger she quickly turned, grabbing a pitcher and topped off some of the bar patrons.
“You are the only one outside of my mum and dad who can speak it, the Gods have truly blessed us”, she mused
She waved over another bartender to cover her while she came around to him
“Please follow me”
Moving with her Cerberus surveyed the area; out of the corner of his eye he spotted a familiar looking cloaked figure. Feeling for any mana to be sure, a sprig of joy bloomed in his chest~
“*Now why would Sayuri be in a place like this*”, he thought
She guided him towards the kitchen, where several people were preparing meals. Among them was a bald man wearing a worn apron; he wore standard clothes that have seen better days, but all on his arms were familiar Goetic Runes and symbols. Across the counter was a fair skinned woman kneading dough; her raven hair was tied back but on a section were hand carved beads that hid a similar tattoo on her neck.
“Patrino, Patro, ni havas gaston (mother, father, we have a guest)”
Both of them looked up; her father had an impressive scar across his face that barely missed his eyes, giving him a stern look. But Cerberus remembers seeing someone like him before; wiping their hands, and exchanging pleasantries they barrelled towards Cerberus, locking him in an enormous bear hug. He explained his situation and they offered him a room at a reduced price, and what supplies they had for leatherworking. The room was quaint, having the basic needs inside, by morning Cerberus would head home to begin his crafts. Feeling out the area he felt Sayuri’s presence amongst several others; being this far away seeing a friend would be nice.
Coming down the stairs Cerberus noticed that Sayuri was gone, along with the group of people around her
“Looking for that bunch?”
Cerberus turned around to notice “The Mother” the co-owner of this “Tavern”.
“Among them was a friend of mine, I wanted to spend some time with her. Do you have any idea where they could be?” asked Cerberus
“Unfortunately I have a pretty good idea where they went, but you’re going to have to stay quiet until you reach your friend”, she sighed
One of her workers came out with a package; I was asked to put my cloak back on and keep the hood up. Cerberus was given the package and lead outside into the downpour; judging by the sound they seemed to be bottles of ale, or wine. Through the rain he saw several large buildings; if his memory was correct they were called “Casinos”, a breeding ground for the sin of “Greed”. Spine tingling they rounded two corners till they came to a “Service Entrance”;~
“Here in Aries Garse, Rogues are everywhere; your friend has been expected. She is in here, and there is one more; I suggest you do not cause any trouble, get in get out.” ~ she whispered
Nodding his head she knocked on the door; the door opened as three armed women came out. Two of them had their grimoires out preparing spells while the center one stepped closer.
“Oi we weren’t expecting a delivery; wha’s this all ‘bout”
“Some of your people were at our bar, and took care of an unsavory visitor a while back. With supplies all short last week we couldn’t give it to ya then.”, she explained
Smirking they came up to Cerberus; her breath wreaked with alcohol and roasted meats, as well as being in desperate need of a shower. She propped open the lid examining it’s contents with glee~
“This look’s expensive, how’d ya manage this?”~ she questioned “Some Silva brat few miles from here took a wrong turn”, smirked Cerberus. “From what I hear, he pissed himself so bad that he begged for mommy and daddy”
The woman looked at him with interest
“A Silva?!, now that’s the best news I’ve heard all day. Did they catch em’?”, she questioned
“Little blue blood apparently had Illusion Magic and got away, but this was all we got. Rest is picked clean”, sighed Cerberus
“Damn; well then come on in” she grabbed a bottle out of the crate leading the way in. “I need to savor this”
The two others were held the rear as they descended down a short flight of stairs to a small storeroom housing various goods and illicit material.
“Just put it down there”, she points haphazardly.
“ I’ve never been ‘ear mind if I take a small look around?”, asked Cerberus
Their heads snapped towards Cerberus but he held his ground
“Come to think of it, I’ve never heard your voice before. What was your name again?”
One of them attempted to reach for his hood but ~
“I’m sorry but that information is secret, I was sent here to Assist and Observe.”, he said coolly. “When I heard of your operation I came running.” *Well that isn’t a total lie*
All of them oddly enough seemed to relax
“I had a feeling”, she breathed. “Sad they couldn’t send another woman though”
“I was in the area, and the others would be furious if they had to reveal themselves too soon”, he shrugged.
Looking at his escort, who looked beyond lost~
“Please return home, I will be alright”, he asked
Wordlessly she turned around rushing up the stair leaving him in this “Lionesses Den”; he followed them to a small balcony where he could see Sayuri and another person. Grinning, he spotted a worn set of stair leading down; everyone seemed to be entranced or rather intimidated by Sayuri’s magic. He could hear the tail end of Sayuri’s speech which was very moving in it’s own way; however the rebuttal afterwords was…soft, yet understandable.
“Callous?”, questioned Cerberus
All eleven heads whipped towards him; removing his damp cloak he let it drop to the ground.
“My dear, death is as natural as life. It is an “Art-form” it is “Expression” it is just as passionate as “Life”. My friend her may has a different approach to it, however you are correct, there is much more to it. To kill someone is far easier than it appears to be, even my young sisters can do it without the slightest hesitation.”, mused Cerberus. “You do not have to be a “Monster” but it does help; you simply need to be someone who has something they want to “live” for.”, smiled Cerberus
