A girl sat on a large rock which stuck out from the sea along the coast. She wore a water proof greyish white cloak and her two piece emerald bathing suit. Her feet sat in the water kicking against the never ending wave of... waves. Behind her was the beach, something she could walk though since she was only several meters away from where the sand and salt water clashed. She had her hood down as she believed she was the only one on the beach. At least this was true when she briefly looked around. Her hair hung down to her shoulder basking in the clear orange sky. In front of her, the sun getting ready to lie down along the horizon, tired from a long days work of bringing light to the kingdom. This was something she could not relate too... at least not today.
No today, the girl was dwelling on the things that happened recently. She never thought herself to be so weak so useless that her own mother would abandon her. She knew she ran away a lot and she did not always have confidence but... she at least never slacked off. She always was training and fighting and trying to get stronger. She always been practicing her magic while trying to maintain that grace that her family demanded but... it was not good enough. It was all pointless and fruitless. If she did have a father, then she would have been on the streets right now. She would be dead, worthless, and poor.
She did not even know what happened to her siblings. They agreed to join the festival with her which she really wanted so that she would still have her mother's support but in the end, they never appeared. They did not support her. Maybe that was why all of this happened. The very attempt to appease a certain group of Magic Knights was the very thing that void her family... no. That family. It was not hers any more. A tear rolled down her face. It never was hers. They never wanted her. She was never good enough. She never would be good enough. Even if she were to go by Wilhelm and complete forget... that name, it would not change the fact that she was a nobody. She was weak. She was unwanted. She was a failure. Just scum grasping for anything to stick to and not be sent adrift in the chaotic currents of change.
The girl lifted her hands. More tears fell from her face. She clenched her fist before letting go too afraid to hurt her hands. Then she slapped her face. "Worthless. Worthless. Worthless." It was the first curse that marked herself with. "Useless. Useless. Useless." The second curse and truth. "Weak. Weak. Weak." The final truth and seal for the abrupt ritual. Her face was pink. Her cheeks were red. Her powerful hands grew in strength to enact the will of her mother. It was what they were meant to do... yet... even they failed. Here she was, alone on a beach. She could disappear. That's what her mother would want. She could jump into the sea and swim till her body gave out and dove to the deepest depths. She could even cover her self in gems and completely sink deeper. It would be beautiful, the one true thing she could accomplish. She could do all of this, if she was not even a failure at that. She had no honor. She was just a coward.

The port town of Raque; a location that Thaddeus himself had unfortunately known all too well. This was one of the major trading hubs that his father had intended to set him upon when he was younger, so that he could further expand his rudimentary knowledge on trade for the family's sake. This was a town that was filled with rather draining memories for young Thaddeus and a place that he hadn't really wanted to be in. Even with that said though, there had been a rather good reason for him to have been here in this moment. You see, Thaddeus had had been heading off towards the Wilhelm Estate, which he hadn't been to in over eight years. The very thought of stepping into that location had left him filled with a rather uncomfortable feeling. Being here, in this port town of Raque, had been a test so to speak. One that he had been undergoing of his own volition, so that he could determine whether or not he had the courage to head back home and face his family. Little did he know just how much this test was going to impact his future.
The night had been coming to a close as Thaddeus had made his way out towards one of the many beaches of Raque. He had already spent most of his day meandering about throughout the town and interacting with its denizens. For the most part, interacting with the people of Raque had left him feeling a tad more comfortable than he had initially felt upon entering the domain. Tomorrow he had planned to continue this little test of his but for the time being, he had taken the moment to relax.
That being said, the sight that had laid before him as he had entered the beach had been the exact opposite of a relaxing situation. There, sitting upon a large rock that had stuck out from the sea along the coast, had been a young girl who been berating herself. Derogatory words towards herself would spill forth from her lips as she had begun to swat away at her cheeks, almost as though she had been attacking herself in shame and anger. It was admittedly.. a rather cruel sight to have to see.
Who was this girl? And why had she been taking such actions against herself? These were the kinds of thoughts that the young Wilhelm had racing through his mind as he watched the scene from afar. It was almost too much for him to bare to see and as such, he knew that he was going to need to act.
In an attempt to try and dissuade the girl from harming herself any farther, Thaddeus would rush on over towards the large rock and close the distance between the two of them. From there he would stomp his foot on the ground and would allow for his mana to flow freely through his leg. The chosen location for the spell that he had cast had been just ahead of him and as such, a miniature dome of carbon matter would burst forth from the sands of the beach! Although this wasn't it's intended use, Thaddeus would launch himself atop of the miniature carbon dome and propel himself even farther towards the girl that had been beating away at herself. The miniature carbon matter dome had been used as nothing more than a stepping stone, which was a rather different way of going about it than he had been used to.
Given that this was his first time attempting to do as much, Thaddeus would find himself flung just far enough to land at the edge of the large rock. His toes made contact with the stone itself but his balance had been rather off and Thaddeus had almost tumbled backwards, which would have been rather disastrous. Thankfully he had managed to catch himself and would regain his balance in a matter of moments.
With that being said, the young Deacon had found himself standing beside the teenage dwarf. Almost reflexively, he had begun to reach out to place a single hand atop of the girls head. For some strange reason, a fatherly sense of worry had overcome him and this was the action that had felt the best in this instance.
"H-hey now.. What's goin' on, kiddo? Why are you beating yourself up like this? It's not the healthiest thing to do, y'know?" As he spoke, Thaddeus would attempt to put on his most reassuring voice. It wasn't every day that he had dealt with this kind of situation, and honestly he may have been going about the entire thing the wrong way, but at least he was attempting to do something. After all, he couldn't just leave her to struggle alone.

Unfortunately for this coward, she could not even grieve properly. She was suppose to be alone. She was suppose to have the space to scream out to the world free from eyes of the people. But the sound of footsteps, magic, and then a loud thump behind her gave way to yet a new way to experience failure. For this girl failed to realize she was not alone. Other people could hear her and see what she was doing. Other people could see her failure. They could see the truth she was trying to hid. Fear over took her and she froze.
Her mind ran through every tiny detail which her brain stored leading up to this moment. She rapidly envision the cracks, patches of algae, and peoples that lived on the rock. She counted to seeming endless shades of white, brown, and tan in the grains of sand from when she walked to the sand. She recalled the quiet horizon which admired the choir of splashing waves. There was no one. She was so sure of it. Yet now she could feel it. Someone's hand was placed on her unprotected hair. She did not even have the foresight to put her hood up. So now she really wanted jump into the water and swim as far as she could. She was a noble. She was suppose to be a proud noble. She was suppose to be flawless, strong, infallible... no weaknesses. Yet, here she was found to be crying and sad.
She could feel her smile on her face creeping in. It was her unconscious wall to hid her her self from the world. It was pointless to do now, but she could not resist her habits. However there was something she could resist. The girl would attempt to pull away from what she would assume was a man who had his hand on her shoulder and hastily rush to a different edge of the rock. She would then quickly don her hood to hid her face and turned around. "I.. I don't... know... What your talking about! I am clearly doing special training and you are clearly ruining it Mister. How does it feel to be weak, useless, and worthless? Does it hurt to be not wanted or needed? Face it. You failed. You Failed mister. You are a F. A. I. L. U. R. E!"
Tears dripped from the shadows of her hood however her grin was as wide as ever. She put everything she had into smiling because inside, she was in so much pain. Her words, which meant to hurt the man blended her insides. Her legs trembled. Her fist were painfully tight. Then she took a step closer to the edge, letting part of her foot go over. "So stay away! Leave me! Before you mess up more of my training."

As the teen girl would pull away from him and rush on over to a different edge of the rock that they had been standing on, Thaddeus would begin to frown. The pain in his eyes had become rather evident as he had heard the words that she had begun to spew out in a rather worrying tone. He knew that he wasn't crazy and that he had truly seen what he believed himself to have seen. Even if she wasn't willing to admit it, she had clearly been beating up on herself. The words that she had uttered had only been further proof of that.
Rather than attempt to close the distance between the two of them again, Thaddeus would simply take a seat on the stone. His legs would curl up towards his chest and his vestments would crease in the worst of ways. A soft sigh had begun to escape from the young Deacon's lips as he would rest his shoulders upon his knees. After a moment he would speak up. "How does it feel to be weak, useless, and worthless? Kid, I don't know what it is that you have experienced up to this point but I guess that your words have some truth to them. Even if you don't actually mean to be directing them to me.."
Taking a moment to scratch idly at the back of his head, he would allow for his gaze to fall upon the now hooded teen. "Even with that being the case though, you shouldn't really be shouting those kinds of things at people. Or at the very least... You shouldn't be lying to yourself like that. If the actions that you are taking are training than I must be an expert of sorts."
Although he wouldn't speak much on the matter, Thaddeus had acted much like this girl had when he was younger. Everyday had been a constant fight with his father and time and time again he would go on to punish himself. Punish himself for failing the family, for letting his father down, and for running away. Running away from his family as opposed to standing up for himself against the one that had continuously thrown his world into mayhem. Even though he hasn't dwelled on these feelings in years, there are still instances in which he would find himself ruminating on everything that had happened. On just how different his life could have been if he would have stuck things out.
"If you really want me to go than I shall do so. I swear it on my pride as a member of the Church of Gnome. However.. If there is any part of you that wants to address these feeling that are welling up inside of you or even if you just want to let it out... I am here for you. You can lash out however you need to or just vent about the things that are going on. Just... Don't force yourself to smile like that. False happiness will never amount to anything good."

The man would not follow her. In fact, he would stay in the spot he chose to anchor himself even despite the barrage of words the girl assaulted him with. It was not like it was not effective though. The man was frowning clearly realizing his mistake. That was it. That was what she was telling herself. Her wide grin cracked with desperate toxic confidence, the kind one would get for taking candy from a baby and laughing in its face. It was this point she was able to truly recognize the type of person she was dealing with.
The garbs screamed member of the church. His stature gave him only two options. Either he was a well establish young boy or a man with the same accursed genetic lottery ticket that she pulled. Perhaps he was a combination of both but judging by his voice and choice of words which placed him in the higher status of the two, she decided this was the latter. He had dark skin such as herself and dark hair. A piece of her wondered if he was some cousin of hers on her fathers side but there was no way that was possible true. Her father was a Wilhelm after all. Why would such a powerful family not care about her acting like this. Though maybe he did not know but it was not the point.
"Of course there is truth. I sad it, thus it has to be true." The girl lashed out, doing anything to divert from the deep and heavy feeling that swelled in her chest. These small bits of outburst and rage lit the flames which she hoped to ride away from this situation. However the man was not going to let her go so easily. He sliced through her words and attacked that squish soft bit she called a heart. Liar, the newest label she was to add to her list of accomplishments. Her smile shifted so she could brace the heartache. She had to defend herself. She had to say something. She wanted to spit fire but now she was silenced but the man's comments. She was robbed of her fire, robbed of her false confidence, and rob from her own dignity. She had nothing else to give the man. So she pulled back what was left of her and plopped herself along the edge with her back to him. She would not respond to his words, wishing not to give him any more ammo to better open herself up.
At least with her ocean in view, she did not have to worry about anyone looking at her not smiling. At least that part of her was hidden, even if the man already realized it was her true self. She could remain the liar he claim her to be to herself and pretend it was all nothing. But with her wall back down again, she found words sneaking out of her mouth. "Do what you want... Since you don't believe me, I won't continue proving anything else." Though another round of cold tears rolled down her face as she felt this defeat, she would not complain if another warm body decided to keep her company.

Although he had felt badly about the clear effect that his words had had on her, Thaddeus had known that he wasn't wrong. Not in this particular instance anyways. Perhaps he could have been a bit less harsh when it came to speaking with her but at least his words had seemed to have gotten through. "I don't mean to insinuate the fact that I don't believe you.. I can just tell when someone is struggling and choosing to lash out in response. You and I really aren't all that different in that regard. I was a lot like that when I was younger but... thing change. And people change with them." In truth he hadn't been feeling the kindest at the moment, given the way that the teen had turned her back on him once again. Rather than let his feelings get to him though, he would simply take a moment to collect himself before proceeding onward.
A few moments would pass in silence as the Deacon had contemplated the best course of action from here. What would he have wanted someone to say to him all those years ago? Were there really any words that could possibly have meant anything to him when he had gotten like this? Unfortunate as it was, he really couldn't recall. Most of those memories were things that he had tried to keep locked away. Things that he had thought himself better off without. That barrier that had been put in place when it came to these memories... That was his own way of lying to himself. He had been a hypocrite to critique anything that this girl had been saying or doing but that wasn't enough for him to stop caring about her situation. Whatever it was that she had been through.. It was clearly getting to her.
Rather than move closer to the dark skinned teen, Thaddeus would simply pick up a few pebbles that had been scattered about the top of the rock. Slowly but surely he would begin to toss them from hand to hand, trying to keep his inner turmoil in check. "I can't tell you what to do in this instance.. Honestly, I'm not even sure what it is that you have gone through. Even with that being said though, I can't just leave you here to harm yourself. If you would like to talk about whatever it was that triggered these emotions in you, I am willing to listen. Or even if you need something as small as a hug... You don't even have to say the words. Just relax your shoulders if that is something that you would like. It isn't easy to handle these kinds of things alone. Or to handle anything alone, really."

The man would not leave her alone. For better or for worst, she was going to have to deal with his presence. That was unless she gave up her spot and went somewhere else. Of course, there was nothing stopping the man from following her... well, except for her telling him to go away. However, the girl was not going to give him that level of satisfaction or and out to say he tried. If she was a failure for being unable to prevent a lesser stranger see her in her weaken state, then he could come to that realization and experience the same failure she will forever exist as. So when he continued talking, she knew the battle was still on.
While he had successfully one up her, she would switch her tactic. "Got got me Mister. Like a jeweler holding up that 24 Carrot Diamond in front of a young future husband. You read me like a book and realize we are the same. Two short, dark skin people who probably have strong Dwarf heritages in our blood line. We both struggle to accept the truth that we are not good enough for others. We both want to fight for our place but at the end of the day, people don't change. People who don't accept you won't accept you. A failure will always be a failure."
She pulled her knees up so she could bury her face into her thighs. She spoke a little too long and revealed a little more about herself than she wanted. Why was she letting this stranger get so much out of her? Why was doing this all her life, blending just enough to ward people away from her feelings? What made this time so different? How much weaker was she going to make herself out to be?
"I'M NOT HARMING MYSELF!" She protested. Her cheeks warmed up and stung for a bit as if to call her out for her own lies. "Only the weak, no... absolute scum do such things as cutting or things like that. Only a stupid person would take away their beauty only to complain about not being pretty. Thus, I don't need a stranger touching me. I don't need some priest giving some invisible being some spoken word then saying now everything is alright. If I want something, then I will take it. If I'm to weak, then I just train and get stronger. I'm happy to do so. I'm happy to know that people look at me as someone strong. So if you really want to help, then don't look at me as some weak kid. Look at me as the strong Mage that I am. Maybe then I'll forgive m... you... for your rudeness and stuff."
She huffed loudly trying to oversell the idea that she was indeed the more superiors person in this exchange. Even if the man was older and apart of something, she was still stronger person. She was born from someone powerful and thus, she should be treated as such.

A failure will always be a failure. Those were the words that she had chosen to utter after everything that he had said to her? Was that the takeaway that he had given her? Thaddeus hadn't been quite sure if things were really going the way that they should have been on his end but he was doing his best here, even if he wasn't all that good at it. Talking to people... is difficult. "That's.. not really what I mea-" Before he could continue on with what he was saying, he would catch the fact that she had revealed quite a bit of information about herself. Information that she had been keeping from him a moment ago, albeit understandably.
Before he could continue with the thought that had been at the tip of his tongue, the teenage dwarf would shout out at him once more. From her words, it was quite clear to tell that she was in denial. There was power in denial though, if only she could reach out and grab it. At least she was starting to see the path forward, even if she hadn't quite noticed it yet. Perhaps if he had remained by her side for a bit longer than he could get through to her? She hadn't quite sent him away as of yet and that was enough reason for him to stay. Hopefully this wouldn't impact the way that she had seen the Church of Clover. Or those that reside under the Church of Gnome.
Eyes locked onto the back of the teenage dwarfs hooded head, Thaddeus would stop playing with the pebbles and allow for them to hit the rocky surface that he had been sitting on once more. What could he say here that would grab her attention and help her see the light at the end of the tunnel? "...for starters, I am not a Priest but a Deacon. And young lady, it isn't that I see you as some weak kid. I only see you as someone that is hurting and that is looking for help. You may not wish to accept it but even now you haven't sent me away. If you truly didn't wish to hear my words than wouldn't you have cast me out once I had stated that I would leave if you so desired?"
Feeling as though these emotions had begun to take a bit of a toll on him, Thaddeus would proceed to lean back against the surface of the large rock and would allow for his legs to remain bent as he had done as much. A single hand would proceed to run through his dark brown locks as his thoughts had begun to run amok. "You may not see it at this moment but there is power in this weakness that we have chosen to run from. Through experiencing doubt, anxiety, failure and fear, we have managed to learn numerous lessons that can empower us. Everyone is weak at some point in their life. It takes adversity to build oneself up and to become the kind of person that we might aim to be. You wish to be seen as a powerful mage... You could have all the magical power in the world but what would it mean if you didn't have the power to face your own self? Failure breeds success. Take whatever it is that happened and accept it for what it is. Once you have done that, you can face the future and overcome that anxiety. If you think yourself a failure than get on up and try again because eventually, you will succeed."
Although he couldn't quite see much of her at the moment, given the way that he had chosen to lie down, Thaddeus would tilt his neck so that he could try and maintain his gaze on the young dwarf. "Once you are able to be strong on the inside, everything will be so much easier. Those failures will be washed away and you'll be prepared for the next time that they are about to happen. I believe that you can overcome anything if you put your mind to it but to start with, you have to at least try. I acknowledge you as a strong mage, girl. Do you acknowledge yourself as one? Do you have it in you to forgive yourse-... me?"

It was working... at least the girl thought she was turning the man's attempts against him. She hoped she was because trying to winning this interaction was the only thing keeping her thoughts away from the other truth boiling inside her chest. She would not say any right away. It would have been too obvious, a complete one eighty of presentation. It would make the man fully realize the situation and give him the upper hand. Well he kind of already new the situation and had the upper hand but like... the girl still wanted to fight. No, she had to fight. As a... Then their was a sap of confidence.
First, the man corrected her. He was a deacon, not a priest. The girl did not know the difference but she would at least try to remember that part about him. Messing up his title served no purpose to her. After all, he was not insulting her. He was... just in the wrong place when she was not behind her wall. His next set of words retain their sharpness. However, it was something she was prepared to hear. She smirked under her hood but his next set of words were completely disgusting. At least, that's what her mother would have said. Everyone was weak at one point in their life. Failure breeds success. There is no point in being strong if one could not face their own self. It was all lies. People are born strong or weak. Strong people are always strong and weak people are always weak. If he wanted to accept that he was born weak, then that was him. She wanted to accept that she was born strong. She had to be. What her mother said about her. She was going to prove she was wrong.
The girl began to sniffle as she ran through her thoughts. The mans next set of words were even worse. How can one have power in being weak. Sure there was power in appearing weak as a deception. There was power in hiding ones strength to enable another to open doors for you. There was even power in not showing your own self. However, every one of those things involve capitalizing on perceive weakness to turn a predictor into prey or controlling others. It was a power, a strength. There was never weakness in those things. Being weak has nothing to do with any of that. Being weak meant people can walk over you. Being weak meant other people could take advantage of you. Perceiving ones self as being too strong was a weakness. It was the very thing that gave proof to her statement. A weak person would always remain weak.
When it came to adversity and failure. They were not the same. Challenges were only something the strong took part in. Adversity is just another challenge for a strong person to over come and a wall for a weak person to stop at. Failures... Failures were not something that happen ever. But what was failure? Was losing a fight failure? Was not being accepted a failure? Maybe... the strong could experience failure... since she failed her family; or maybe, it was her family that failed her. They failed to realize how strong she was. They failed to capitalize on her talents. They failed to retain a powerful individual. So they thought they were too strong. Thus they were the weak ones. Her smirk suddenly became genuine. The man... while preaching false words, managed to lead her to a truth. That or "god" had a way of talking through people. Though she wish god would be a bit more blunt.
"Nope!" the girl said the a actual chipper tone. She quickly stood up and pulled her arms back. Her fist closed almost giving her a charging like pose. "I won't forgive anyone. You made me realize something Deacon. I am not the failure. It is others who failed. Everyone else failed me and while that might have made things hard for me. It did not change what is true. I am a strong mage. I was born a strong mage. Strong people don't need to ask for forgiveness from those who failed them. They just need to be strong and march forward with their power. I was being weak... but that does not mean I am weak. I just simply let someone who I though was strong pretend to be stronger than me. You made me realize this. Even if you say you are weak... No. I still think your ideology is weakness but it at least made me realize stuff so. Thank you." The girl turned around and gave the man a small bow.
Then the girl took a step backwards and purposefully fell off the cliff. There was water below her so she was safe and prepared. In fact, she wanted to use the water so she could disappear. The last thing she wanted was the man following her and figuring out more about who she was. For at the end of the day, even though he helped her, he did see her in a weak state. He knew she was troubled with stuff and could use that against her. She she really hoped she would never ever see him again. That bow, that thank you was more than enough of an reward. Who knows, maybe she would even give a prayer to god as well.

Even with everything that he had said to try and sway the girl over to a more delicate and positive way of thinking, his words hadn't quite reached their mark. If anything, it was almost as though he had stirred something up in this girl that could have been quite dangerous. From what he could tell, this girl had no rhyme or reason to believe that she had to forgive anyone. Not even herself. That kind of thinking had been rather disastrous for most people, considering the fact that it tended to lead them down a path of destruction against everyone and everything that had ever truly wronged them. Or that they had at the very least believed had wronged them, even if that might not have been the case.
While he hadn't really known much about this girl or her story, the thought of her going out and about and possibly causing a widespread destruction because of the words that he had said had shaken the Deacon to the core. There was no telling what effects these words were going to have on the poor dwarven girl moving forward. The entire ordeal had honestly left him rather conflicted. On one hand, he had somehow managed to help her see a path at the end of the road, even if it hadn't seemed to be an ideal one in Thaddeus' mind. On the other hand though, he might have just given the dwarven lass reason to turn against the populace and focus solely on the fact that she had been stronger than most. With all of those novels that Thaddeus' had used to read in his youth fantasizing this sort of behavior but resulting in the main character turning into what one might essentially consider a villain, this girls future could really end up going in one of two ways. For not only his own sake but the sake of the Clover Kingdom, he had truly hoped that this youth would end up as a hero as opposed to a villain.
Once the young dwarven girl had taken a step backward, off of the large rock and into the waters below, Thaddeus would immediately hop onto his feet and rush on over towards the position in which the girl had just been. His eyes would immediately begin to scan the waters below in hopes of finding the girl and ensuring that she was okay but no matter how hard or for how long he had looked, he simply couldn't locate her. If he had specialized in sensory magics or had even taken on the training of obtaining a scout golem, he likely would have been able to find her with relative ease. Not having either of those things within his arsenal at the moment though, Thaddeus couldn't help but internally panic. 'Please, for the love of the Gnome, tell me that I didn't just create some kind of monster and send her off into the world. Or at the very least, please tell me that she didn't just throw herself into the depths of the waters and drowned!'
Almost as though the Gnome themselves had been answering his prayers, Thaddeus would begin to overhear a soft lapping of waves nearby. It hadn't been the same sound that the waves had usually given off so this had naturally drawn his attention. Upon turning his gaze off in the direction of the source of that particular sound, Thaddeus would just barely make out a body beneath the waves. From what he could tell, the dwarven lass had been moving about beneath the waves and had been okay. Realizing he had been holding his breath in suspense, Thaddeus would sharply inhale. He would than lower himself to the ground and allow for a soft sigh to escape from his lips. This entire situation.. It was a smidge too much for him to be dealing with in these current circumstances. He hadn't even made it to the Wilhelm Estate yet and already he had been this vulnerable. Whatever it is that ends up happening once he arrives within his family's lands, it was going to turn out to be quite interesting. Perhaps.. this vulnerability might come in use once there.
