The smell of toast was wonderfully crisp but Nix didn’t come here just to smell the food.
She came here to make the food.
Gradually as her wisdom upon the subject swelled, strawberries were added to the mixture in the form of desserts.
Losing most interest in making bread when the shortcakes were presented Nix loomed over the delicacies with delight.
Cinnamon was introduced and sprinkled on some deep fried dough, she discovered they tasted most excellent fresh from the stove.
Compared to being cold, it was pretty alright.
Nix thought so at the very least, kneading dough was surprisingly difficult.
Her endeavours to do so highlighting her struggles, they needed five hundred loaves, Nix had only made about three.
Rye bread was dark and too thick too eat for breakfast, white bread was like glue, wholemeal was okay.
There was no particular order in which Nix managed to learn the fundamentals of bakery.
The finer arts of cake decorations were a closely guarded secret, but they shared them with Nix because she pestered them about sweet things.
Meringue was made from egg whites, and were really fluffy before hardened, another thing they made was pavlova which Nix loved.
The fruits were kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, bananas and passion fruit.
Many things that should very well be on a cake, they were there and this made her very happy.
One may have found her gladly eating doughnuts.
There were so many, she couldn’t help herself, they made them here after all.

This request was one of the stranger assignments he'd taken, not because it'd held some weird mystery or magical anomaly. It was strange because Thorne Baldemar, more commonly known as Weed, had the absolute minimal experience when it came to baking, let alone having a hand in the success of a local Lords banquet. Usually he'd not find himself in a situation such as this, and would instead accept jobs that were more suited to his skill set. But the original contractor, for whom he was now standing in, contracted a mild flu and was advised to remain at home. The last thing the chefs needed was an unneeded scandal.

Weed found himself awkwardly replacing the ebony robes of the Black Bulls with an ivory apron of a kitchen hand, and systematically "advised" to maintain the shoulder length hair which dangled atop his shoulders. He pulled the mane into a manageable bun, washing his hand from elbow to fingers as he prepared for the instruction of his temporary superiors. He made it perfectly clear that he could not cook, and as an amputee his ability to multitask in the kitchen was somewhat limited.

The slim Commoner held himself awkwardly as he eased his way into his duties, taking note not to bump into the chefs or their kitchen hands. Despite his inability to bake he could still assist in keeping stations cleaned and restocked, taking away their rubbish to avoid clutter and removing dishes for the same reason.

Weed was no baker, but he was a great worker.

Nix approached one particular man who seemed to be working slowly yet diligently.
They had not been formally acquainted but then again none of the other staff had introduced themselves either.
She relaxed when she saw he was working one handed, he must have been some kind of professional as he quietly went about his tasks in a pensive manner.
Nix grabbed a doughnut, one she had prepared earlier and offered it to the man; Weed, who she only invited to converse by doing so as well as saying, “Hello Mister, my name is Nix Aurora Lenore. I’m a Silver Eagle, what’s your name?”
The witch was unbelievably nosy today, but hoped she came across as a snazzy individual who one might engage in conversation with.
Her black dress being mottled cloudy white hues of varying flour saturations from careless work.
It was interesting to see what went into commoner work when they put their heads down to prepare a feast for a lord.
Nix’s own dinner hadn’t been anything so extravagant, she ate light and delicious things in medium portions throughout the day.
Not because she wasn’t satisfied, just because everything tasted so great and she enjoyed eating doughnuts.
Her hair was fiery red and mislead people to believe she was a Vermillion, rumours such as this she did not discredit, it made her seem more popular.
It was tied in a neat ponytail that tucked into her crown like hat.
