Amelia took a deep breath as she found herself surrounded by some thieves, they were still hidden around her but as she was on her knees taking a sip from a small lake in front of her she acted normal as usual as she finished her drink, they were shifting around her and she could tell as she could hear the gasps of air of more than one person at random times and she smelled types of perfume and cologne's.
"Is there something I can help you gentlemen with..?" Amelia said as she took another sip of water, she was wearing a oversized book bag that was packed with various items of monsters, loot she found along her way through the clover kingdom in the recent month, on the way to sell it all off for coin in her pocket to continue her journey, a journey that now had her crossing paths with the nasty sort of thieves.
One laughed and spoke up, "Yeah, everything you got, and maybe that fine body after~! Oh wait are you old enough? Shit I guess just the goods would do~!" Suddenly she could hear the sound of laughing coming from all around her, maybe 2-3 different voices, so four total? She could probably run and try to separate and then ambush them one at a time and take them out. "I don't think so, I have business in Sosshi that I need this for, I heard they hire fools looking for easy money for hard labor, might want to try there." Amelia answered back.
"Tch! Bitch! Now this is personal!" The bandit said as he whistled and Amelia found herself surrounded from the land side of the lake, so what did she do? Well she preferred not to use her magic unless she had to but this one was a little to tough without it, Amelia often kept her grimore close to her, so close yet nobody could see it until today as she lifted her brown fur coat to reveal a dark purple looking grimoire, Osseia Combat: Wild Garden..!" Amelia said as she swiftly turned around touching the ground with her right hand sending a wave of her mana through the ground as her grimoire floated and flipped through pages, moments later rose thorns grew out of the ground slashing against the thugs as she made a immediate dash for it through the forest. She didn't think help would come so she have to handle this herself.
Slowly but surely, a black figure made its way through the woodlands near Sosshi. This close to the Black Bulls base, it wasn’t entirely uncommon to encounter a member of the squad, though this far in the woods, most people did not come often, and for good reason. Over the past year alone, they had been forced to deal with a minotaur, a glade of dryads that did not look kindly to humans cutting down their trees, a trio of werewolves and a bunch of lesser threats such as wolves and bears. Because of this fact, Griswold patrolled the area roughly once a month, knowing that one day, this place would be where he would build his farm. Allowing the poorest people in the region to find work wherever he could offer it, tending to orchards or farm animals, it also allowed him to look after the region itself to the best of his abilities.
After all, there were more things in this world than just monetary gain and whatever the hell humans needed. It was why he employed scare tactics to fend off wolves and bears, often times giving them a thorough thrashing to assert dominance and allow them to keep them from venturing too far from their territories and getting too close to people. In the case of the dryads, he had even gone as far as to choose their side over that of the people, letting them know that their glade, which was incredibly deep inside of the woodlands and hidden from regular sight, was now forbidden ground. Using his elven tongue to speak to the incarnates of nature, they let him know that the next time people got around, they would kill them, which Griswold could only hope would never happen. But by patrolling as often as he did, he could see to it that people did not venture through the area.
On his latest patrol, he had found a large monstrosity that had likely ventured far enough down from the Fringe to the north, killing various loggers in a skirmish while being gravely injured. With the pain of a logging axe stuck in its back driving it insane, it had done a huge number on a portion of the forest, destroying trees left and right, as well as killing an entire pack of wolves out of sheer anger. Because of this, killing it was required as sending it on its way would not work for him, as it would put a great deal of people in danger, as well as allowing it to go about killing man and beast alike in some other location. Besides, with the wounds it had sustained, putting it down had been a kindness. Leaving the body in the woods for the beasts and birds to feed on, he had taken the head and hung it off of the side of his saddle on a large hook.
Trophies like these were required, as not every commoner or peasant would believe a haunting tale of a monster in the woods without seeing proof. And without proof, most would also not be willing to pay any bounty money, which was among the kind of currency he required if his dream of a farm was to ever become a reality.
After the fight, the forest had become a rather serene place, as even the birds had stopped singing for a while in the aftermath. This, paired with his incredibly fine-tuned sense of hearing allowed him to pick up on people not to far from here. In a normal situation, he would have rode around them, though part of what he managed to pick up seemed like it stemmed from an unfriendly situation. Besides, given how they were still fairly far from the main road, he had to make sure people knew not to stick around here. So, as he and Nuck, his black stallion, made their way over to them, the decrease in distance allowed him to get a better idea of what the conversation was about. Halting his horse and leaving it by a large oak tree, Griswold began approaching the group of people on foot. With how loud they were, he was not surprised no one noticed his gradual approach.
Once a bunch of large thorns broke through the earth and made their way over to those that were planning to assault her, she made a run for the treeline. As she did, she ran straight past him, heading over to where Nuck was waiting for Griswold to return, the head of the monster yet hanging from the saddle and blood still dripping down and into the soil. By the time the men made their way around the attacking rose bush, they ran into the forest after her, at which point Griswold emerged from behind a tree thick enough to hide his form. Always doing his best to contain his mana so as to not freak people out, when one of the men bumped right into him before falling flat on his ass, Griswold’s mana seeped out for a moment. But in that moment, all of the people in their neck of the woods were made aware of him.
Knowing a good deal of the people who lived near Sosshi, as well as a large majority of the people within the forsaken region, these guys were all new faces he had never once seen before in his life. And judging by the things they had said, it seemed like they were bad news. To say that something needed to be done about them was simple enough as it was, he just needed to decide upon the severity of their punishment.
“You know, you really shouldn’t be out here. Not long ago, a monster killed an entire pack of wolves, as well as a group of loggers not far from here. I’d recommend staying near the main roads once you make your way back from here. But before I let you lot leave, I’d like to inquire as to where it is that you’re all from?”
"I shouldn't have stopped for water..!" Amelia thought to herself as she heard the various footsteps of feet crunching grass, the creaking of wood as something exerted pressure down onto it, Amelia had such perception of her surroundings but even so it didn't help much since she was already surrounded. "Unfair fight, what are my advantages? Whose emotional weakness can I exploit to get out of this?" Such questions popped into Amelia head as she wore a fake mask of calmness by continuing to drink the water even thought she was getting pressed from four different sides.
Luckily she didn't have to identify anyone as one stepped up to her, assumingly the leader Amelia thought. And that's when she started playing a mental game. At first glance she knew exactly why they were there, she knew beforehand thieves were common in this part, she hadn't been caught before now and she realized she had built up this idea she was safe by herself, but there was a first time for everything she supposed. In any case the leader being a rather short male only a inch or two higher than her, his big loud attitude that seemed to want to impress or make the others around him laugh was easy to see. His olive skin looked clear but his big pot belly revealed his piggish nature, insult this type of guy even a little and he usually went off the rails Amelia learned in a similar situation, if she could just make a opening for herself she could run and pick them off, that was her plan anyway.
So Amelia started speaking but she knew the undertone was rude, disrespectful in nature and like a fly being lead into a trap the guy fell for it at her mentioning in a subtle way that he was a fool, because Amelia was about to make a fool of him! Angry at her the guy called for all the man that had been around in the shadows of the forest to come out, she was being pinched down and behind her there was nothing but water and she couldn't just run over three or four people. Within her magics distance now since they got closer Amelia kneeled to the ground as she flipped her coat enough to allow her Grimoire to slid out of its holster and float into the air just as she coursed her mana through the ground activating her first and only spell, Wild Garden!
The vines charged forward towards the thieves and some of them stopped but the leader who fell into a sort of rage, heading first into the vines as they stopped and burst out of the ground, "Now!" Amelia screamed at herself as she took a dash for it towards the treeline, she thought about how she was going to split them up but before she could even do so she realized she was heading towards a trio of scents that she found odd, one of them was very close by, a second one further into the distance, a black shadow of sorts. Closer, the black figure a horse, looking back towards the area she came from past the brush she could see a male dressed in what looked like magic knight attire, she had almost slid to a stop to warn him but at the same time a deep scent hit her senses and for a split moment the air around her was filled with an almost crimson like mist and she felt a odd sensation that made her tremble, was she afraid..?"
Trying to control her breathing she looked sideways at a horse that was just looking back at her, a black horse, attached to it however was the head of a monster that was still actively bleeding, spots of blood seeable from the way they came, she stared at the head of the creature then back at the horse, then back in the direction of the man not too far up ahead. There was many things she didn't understand about this encounter, but one thing for certain was that he was strong, it would be better to stick to his side for now, he attempted to help her so she couldn't just leave him right?
Wrong. Returning to the man she was hit with a almost impossible amount of mana force coming from him, like being suffocated or something she felt stifled but it was only for a moment or two. However looking at the thieves one of them pissed his pants and the other felt sick, one of them was hiding it well and the leader? He looked like he just stepped on someone's toes he knew he shouldn't have done it too. "Sir..~ We are from the common region, that girl took our money and we just wanted it back, can't you let us go? Were not a threat or anything..' the guy said almost begging the man to do. Amelia arriving, "That's a lie! I worked hard for almost a month killing monsters to get this stuff, you're the thieves!" Amelia argued back although she was suppose to be quiet, "oops sorry, Amelia by the way. Thanks for the help, i'll be leaving now~!"
