It had been a little over a year since the last magic knight exams, and though the wounds were far from healed in the town of Kikka things seemed calm... at least on the surface. The Blue Rose captain couldn't help but think back to the Flower Blossom Fete and at some of the terrible things that had happened. It was supposed to be a time of peace and celebrating and for the most part it was but there were still issues with the water being a different colour, tainted or even bloody creating a panic for those who lived in Raque during the invasion of the archdaemoness Serena. Then there was the petting zoo stampede which had caused people to get injured, a building blowing up, decorations being vandalized in several ways, and the egg hunt being littered with rotten eggs to name a few of the problems that had happened.
It was as if the celebration had been targetted, although no one had been killed which she was thankful for. She knew so many problems happening in such a short time couldn't be a coincidence but believed the puppet master behind it didn't want death or want destruction. No. She suspected that it was quite personal, that whoever it was intended to make the crack in trust between the magic knights and civilian populace worse. She believed it had been mitigated thanks to the magic knights and brave civilians who worked together to keep the peace but she could only surmise that this was a warning shot and worse was yet to come. She put forward a report to the Wizard King's office letting them know what had happened and her suspicions. Outside of that, she attempted to not dwell on it but rather continue to help fix the strained relationship created by Kikka.
Like the year before she arrived early and had taken the same route, she had the year before, walking past the still dormant house of Charlotte and her family. The victims that had been tragically killed by the people of the town while they had been shrouded in shadow. The family had been targeted because the daughter Nanami had been 'saved', in fact, she was the first child to die in the events and from her investigations the only one that had been killed by the archdaemon Sven. His wraith-wielding daughter took pity on her and took her as one of her own, the people didn't know this and so turned their anger towards the family as they believed them working for the daemons and because they couldn't take their anger out on the cause it was aimed at the next best thing.
She still held the deed to the house and still intended to hand it over to Valo Stark when they next saw each other. Looking at the house today, silent of love or laughter that it should still be held within its walls hurt her on a deep level, one day soon she hoped it would return but that decision belonged to Valo alone. She began walking once more seeing people getting ready to sign up for the exams and wondered how many would pass the expectations of the captains or if there would be issues like within the last two exams. She was hoping this one would indeed go smoothly but only time would tell on that front. Making her way to her chair she didn't honestly know if two of the seats would remain empty due to the ongoing events but she would know soon enough.
Eventually, the time had come and the participants had filed into the exam grounds, standing she would look at them with a smile. "Good morning everyone." she said her voice was elegant, yet it still held authority and strength within it. "My name is Alyssa Lilygate and I will be the one welcoming all prospecting magic knights to the exams this time." She watched each of them as she spoke "As you know we've are now dealing with archaemon royalty. The first of which the archdaemon Aamon has been defeated by captain Kasai and his group of royal knights, but the threat is far from over." She informed them. "I will not lie and say this is going to be easy or that everyone will pass, but, that shouldn't stop you from giving your all as it is a calling that has brought you all here to protect your home, families and friends." she said to them all, it was truly respectable in her eyes.
"With that out of the way, I will now let you know what we are going to be doing this time around." she said her hand moving to a group of nearby magic knights of varying squads and ranks "We want to see what your magic can do individually. For those who require it, you are able to request five magic knights to help you in this task." she then pointed to the unusual green and blue walkway that seemed to lead to a door that had only been seen in the exams last year, it still looked completely out of place. "Next you will need to find at least one other person to take on the trial of attrition, this is a unique dungeon made by the wizard king himself and will put more than your magic to the test from what was seen last year." she informed them then moved both her hands to them "Your last test is not mandatory..." she paused for a second as she thought about how to word it.
"It is more if you want to show off a little more while having a bit of fun; it will allow you to show what you can do in a situation where your opponent will hit back. You will be able to fight against each other, if that doesn't tickle your fancy you can challenge a vice-captain or captain, whether they will accept is completely up to them however so please bear this in mind." she informed them "Now the welcomes are done and the tasks are explained, the rules are all that are left." she said bringing her hands back to her sides "These are quite simple and should be a common-sense thing." she said with a warm tone not believing anyone would be stupid enough to try anything with so many eyes watching, but last year had proven her wrong. "First of all, no killing this is against the law and will end up with you being arrested on the spot." that was just the law of the land.
"The second rule is no maiming or attempting to maim another, by this we mean nothing that could leave permanent life-changing damage. Yes, we do have healers that can undo such damage on standby but it doesn't take away the severity of such actions. This will get you instantly disqualified, this is an exam and those you would be fighting against are potential squadmates and allies in the future so should be treated as such." she took a silent breath remembering how Echo attempted to blind Sol in last year's exams though she had said the exact same thing. It had ended with Lydia and Valo stepping in to prevent the blow from landing and his disqualification. The redhead likely felt humiliated but that was on him for taking it too far. "With this all this said, I wish everyone good luck in their trials." with everything said that was needed she sat down wondering how the examinees would take everything that was said to them.
