Is it difficult to leave things behind?

The correct answer would be no.

Yet…

Yes.

Genesis had always prided herself in being direct and straightforward, yet the female assassin found herself with mixed feelings. Her missions were always simple in nature: get in, take out the target, get out. Even her goals were plain and simple. Goal number one: Get more yul. Goal number two: Get more knives. Easy enough, right? Yet, navigating human feelings was anything but simple. Like leaving. Like saying goodbye.

But there would be plenty of time to process it all later, when she was out on the road.

The redhead stuffed all of her personal belongings into a knapsack—she had always preferred to travel light, despite the fact that this journey may prove to be a longer trip. As long as she had her prized blades and a bag of yul, she could cope with anything that may come her way. She carefully cleaned each of her treasures, polishing and buffing their sharp edges until she could see her reflection in them. Every nick and imperfection in those weapons, she remembered how she got them and who inflicted those cuts…they each had a story to tell. But for now, those stories will remain untold.

Gen strapped her trusty dagger Chuchote to her thigh, then sheathed Eclipsed Moon into its crisscross holder and secured it onto her back. Those were the only weapons she had kept from her vast collection of weaponry. She had owned so many beautiful blades, but unfortunately, those she will have to leave behind, since she could only bring so many with her and she had no idea how or where she would be sleeping tomorrow night. Instead, she had made a trip to the royal capital the week before to personally sell them off. Shortswords, machetes, swords, daggers—she had regretfully parted with each one of her beloved blades. But she had learned to let go of many things, and now was one of those times.

It was time to go.

After a moment of hesitation, she pulled on her boots—the same boots that a certain someone had gifted her. A daemon, in fact. His true intentions behind sending her this gift was still unclear, as well as a certain ice mage who had an uncanny aura to the mentioned daemon…but she supposed it was better this way, to let mysteries remain as mysteries. Was it wise for her to bring such a dark piece of history along? Perhaps not, but they were still a good pair of boots nonetheless, and they would be helpful in this next step of her journey.

Right before she left town, the woman made a quick stop at the local bookstore, leaving a book with a "Donation" note on its cover. She was never one for books, but during her therapy period, she had found it a helpful distraction to write down tips and tricks for young assassin wannabes. Who would have thought that she would read a book, much less write one herself? She had only published two copies, however, not even keeping one for herself. One was for the bookstore, and the other copy she had sent to her friend Valo Stark✾. Despite her name being nowhere on the cover or within its contents, she was certain that the Green Mantis would know it was from her. He had shared those hazardous Kikka experiences with her, so he would get the references. She preferred it this way, the anonymous. This was also her parting gift to Clover Kingdom.

Genesis made her way to the edge of the woods, silently enjoying each passing scenery for the last time. It really was a beautiful day, with nary a cloud in the sky. Vitesse D'Argent flashed in the sunlight before the shadow mage tucked the silver necklace underneath her clothes. It was nothing special, just a single dog tag that she always wore around her neck. It was from her late adopted mother, the only link to her already uncertain past. But she was certain about her future, and that was all that mattered.

On the spur of the moment, she stopped at a large tree. With one of her daggers, she started carving on the tree—a simple yet bold G with a vertical slash through it. Only those who knew her would see it and know it was hers. To others, it was simply a random mark on a tree. The femme fatale stepped back and smirked in satisfaction at her handiwork.

Her genesis has ended, and her exodus has begun.
