★ The Noble Babysitter
This wasn't the first time Fell has been in the town of Silva, his only ever visitation took place not too long ago when he had met rat as he came to know her. Thankfully it was one of the few places Fell had visited so far in the Kingdom otherwise the unfamiliarity of the mission would have been slightly more annoying. Nonetheless Fell had a mission for the first time, too many people would be incredibly disgusted with the mission. Babysit a noble, and while Fell wasn't exactly excited he was fine with being chosen for the mission. After all, he was the newest member of the Crimson Lions and the weakest as well so it was no wonder out of the squad that he was chosen. Fell didn't exactly have a lot of experience with children though, he knew they just wanted to play way...way too much and had an insane amount of energy. But if all it took was entertaining the child for a day Fell would be capable. The main problem was simply that Fell wasn't sure if the noble child would be incredibly rude or not.
Fell approached the building that he had been told to go too and knocked on the door, he was quickly shoved in by someone and put into a room where the door was quickly closed and he was told good luck. The good luck worried Fell but he turned around and locked eyes with the child he assumed he was supposed to be taking care of. About 8 years old the kid wasn't as young as Fell was originally worried he may be after all Fell had no experience with toddlers. The kid walked up to Fell and looked up, as per any 8 years old the kid was vastly shorter than Fell but the face the kid held was almost as if he was the bigger boy of the two.
“Hello, what's your name?”
“Jack, so you're a knight?”
“Yeah, recently became one. Wanna see something cool?” Fell knew the quicker he gained the favor of the kid the easier the day would become as it went on.
“Magic?”
“Oh yeah”
“Ooooooh I like magic.” The kid sat down in front of Fell, his beady eyes expecting something cool.
“Look at your shadow right there” Fell pointed next to the kid who turned and looked at the shadow. Fell manipulated the shadow very minimally, similar to his attack magic he caused the shadow to expand outwards before it went back to normal.
“Oh that's neat, can you do anything else.” The kid spoke clearly not satisfied. Fell remembered, the kid wasn't any commoner and probably had seen things more impressive than that multiple times over. Fell realized if he wanted to actually do anything meaningful hed probably have to actually put effort into it.
“Alright, wanna see a little trick then?”
“Oh yeah.” The kid's face grew a little brighter wanting to see something he had never seen before. Fell Casted his illusion spell, Shadow step, and for a moment the kid would watch as Fell seemingly fell into his own shadow before disappearing. Now the kid looked only at an unmoving shadow. As this took place the kid's face grew in excitement, clearly Fell had done something the boy had never seen before and the kid was entertained.
“That's so cool!” The boy exclaimed looking around he had lost his babysitter. “Where'd you go!” The boy shouted standing up.
“Right here,” Fell said as he tapped the boy on the shoulder, the contact ending the illusion, the shadow on the ground disappearing as Fell and his actual shadow reappeared behind the kid. The boy jumped turning around. Looking back at the floor where Fell had just been he saw the shadow no longer there and Fell now behind him.
“How did you do that, that was cool I haven't seen that before, what kinda magic is it?” The boy asked, his eyes now shining the boy was clearly interested in something he had never seen before.
“Its shadow magic, I can essentially mess with shadows and make them do things. Like, this.” Fell took the shadows of the two individuals in the room and swapped them, making Jacks shadow his and Fell’s shadow Jacks. “In the most basic term, I can form shapes with Shadows and manifest them as well.
“I haven't seen anyone with shadow magic yet...is it rare or something,” The boy asked interested in something new. Fell was thankful the shadow magic was less common in nobleish areas and he had managed to find something to speak to the boy about and entertain him with.
“I'm not sure about rare, but it seems to be less common in the noble areas. Nobles don't really like it from what my mom told me.”
“Why not though it looks so cool.”
“They tend to not like the darker things.”
“Oh.” The kid looked a little disappointed but quickly lightened up again. “So what else can you do mister knight.” Fell was realizing that this kid was going to want something new over and over for the rest of the day, and Fell’s only hope was that his mana could keep up.
“Well, I'm also a little special in that I can do this too,” Fell said and place his hand out, a spark of electricity came up from the hand. Showing to the kid not only could he use the one magic element, but also a second. Though the kid has most likely seen lightning magic before, maybe he had never seen people with two elements.
“Lightning magic!? You can use two elements? That's so cool, I’ve only met one person who could do that before. Can you do anything cool with that?” The boy asked again his eyes gleaming once again he clearly wanted to see the two magics at once. Unluckily for Fell, he hadn't been too used to using both at the same time but he had a trick up his sleeve.
“Well, I can put the lightning magic on shadows like this.” Fell pointed at his shadow on the ground and used lightning magic to trace the shadow on the floor. His lightning magic sitting on top of the shadow and not disappearing by manifesting the shadow as an object that held the lightning. In the end, the trick was something that took some effort, and Fell even had a bead of sweat before he stopped the spell.
“That's neat. So what's it like being a magic knight, have you fought any bad guys yet?” Fell was amazed at how quickly the kid turned from being interested in his magic to his job, the boy's interests switching from one thing to another so quickly. The rest of the day went from Fell showing him magic, to telling him about the Crimson Lions, to Fells past. Of course, there were the boring parts as well, such as Fell having to get the boy food and get him dressed for bed when he left and everything in between. But the mission didn't go as bad as Fell had expected, thankfully his magic and his job had been enough of a way to entertain the boy, and with the kid entertained he seemed to be less demanding than he probably would have been otherwise.
