Gaius laid down in the grass, this open field at the edge of the slums making for quite a nice spot to both relax and train. Dangerous, of course, with other kids with the same idea throwing their spells around, but that was life. While he lay there, Gaius could feel the ground beneath him, the quivers and trembles through it made by footsteps, impacts of spells, and tunnel dwellers beneath the surface. And yet, more than that, there was the depth. Just as one could look at the vast sky and know limitlessness in its infinite wake, one could touch the surface and know unfathomable strength, an immovability that dwarfed man’s capacity to realize.
The young elf with this affinity with the earthen surface beneath him sat up at this moment, perhaps considering it soon time to meet up with his fellow elven brethren. Before he would go, however, Gaius wished to deepen his relationship with the earth. One might even call it a romantic relation with Mother Earth. Spreading out his arms, he sent his magic throughout the earth to embrace it, both on its surface and seep down to its core. He couldn’t reach so far, but even being a few dozen meters closer to the heart of his beloved ground made the elf feel all the more enticed by it.
Quite quickly did two ruffians who were fighting with swords make their way over to Gaius’s proximity. He didn’t particularly mind that they stepped upon the face of the earth without any regard for her blessings, for this divine floor which she provided to them to live upon, but what he could not forgive was these ignorant fools interrupting and distracting from Gaius’s own personal time to meditate on the earth and his worship of her element. With this stone-cold fury expanding within him, ready to burst forth like a volcanic eruption, Gaius’s grimoire glowed brightly and opened to a particular page, seeing that certain requirements to unlock a spell had come together.
“Underworld Gate,” Gaius muttered, reading the words for the first time from his page and channelling his mana through their instruction. Suddenly the ground trembled, the two teens that had trespassed upon his ground feeling it as well and stopping their activity. The soil and stones seemed to open up beneath them, sucking them into the depths quite quickly until only their head showed. At this point, Gaius was simply jealous that the two had been embraced by the earth in such a way, wishing and reminding himself that he must experience it as well later on. He would then continue to walk up to these ruffians and explain to them their primary fault.
“While I’m not so borish to say something like ‘this was my area’, which would be something of slavery or butchery of the earth itself by proclaiming parts of it as ‘owned’, I do hope you understand that if you’re going to be fooling around, you should mind your surroundings. In the future, I hope you learn this.”
“Scre-” Before the boy could get out the swear, Gaius had the earth pull him under, waiting a few seconds before bringing him back up, a new fear in his eyes. “S-sorry.”
With everybody on the same page, Gaius smiled sweetly and unearthed the people from the waist up, telling them to dig themselves out. With his mood significantly improved with this small bit of torture play, the elf considered now how he was going to make it to his friend’s event at this rate, having wasted some time on lecturing and messing with the local kids. He considered that he had just been able to move bodies through the earth via his magic, so perhaps, he thinks, he might be able to do the same with a primary function to act as transportation.
To pull such a thing off, he required to modify Underworld Gate some bit, in that it was too fixed to an area. He required the earth to move around himself and thus focused the manipulated area to only his local position, and attempted thus, but that only decreased the area he could move through. Considering this, he examined the issue and realized the issue: he could manipulate the earth, but not himself in relation to it. Instead of moving himself through an area of earth, he changed his through process to create a vehicle of earth that might move within itself. As this design had begun to shape itself into a fruitful form in his mind, his grimoire began to glow once more, a second spell within only minutes after the first.
“Land Shark,” Gaius stated, realizing the spell through his words and channeling magic into the design the grimoire provided. Soil and stone gathered in a large body, hardening into something defined and contrasting from the earth from which it was made. Ah, in such a way has the earth and he created something together, of both their origin, in a likeness to birthing a child. This thought greatly comforted the concerning terraphiliac as he began to carefully refine the shape of their baby, a great shark of earthen quality that seemed to ripple the earth apart around it, as if it were liquid. Its skin was rough and had a certain rough and moving quality to it, making it function like a drill to manipulate ground it passed through.
With this, the shark opened its mouth and revealed a particularly compensating area in which Gaius might enter, which he went on to do. With an understanding of the topography of the area, Gaius moved the shark through the earth toward the location where he was intent to meet his comrade. The ride was, all things considered, fairly smooth and as he rode he began to understand the various capabilities of this shark he had made. While not necessary now, it was possible to form and create tunnels through the earth to provide covert routes hidden from the surface. It was helpful utility, but not necessary at this given time.
