Dismissive, sea-green eyes surveyed the passerby begrudgingly. "Tactless sheep", Annelise would silently murmur to herself whilst her expression would shift into an amalgam of hate and callous annoyance. The Devil harbored no love for the Noble region. She detested the privileged flock of dullards and any of their elitist ilk. The town's air reeked of their pungent scent, enough so that Annelise would scoff at the invasive gazes of the random citizens. It was a sickening combination that twisted and churned her stomach. Simply revolting. Annelise was in the Noble region for some paperwork that her Captain tasked her with completing. Mostly because he was a lazy person and she surmised that he knew she hated this town. His coy nature often earned The Devil's ire. The two would often clash, exchanging foul words and expletives before inevitably devolving into attacks being exchanged. In truth she didn't truly dislike him, he allowed Annelise to operate with a level of autonomy that Annelise wouldn't be afforded with another squad. For this, she was thankful because her devilish machinations could come to fruition without the prying eyes of big brother looming over her shoulder.

The cobble streets were packed with business and flooded by people as she followed the road towards the Golden Dawn headquarters. Another place she could live without setting foot in. Even now, she could visualize their pretentious expressions, sizing her up akin to how a predator leers at its prey of choice. The very thought boiled Annelise's blood and fueled her temper like oil doused atop a flame. A heavy sigh would escape the mages parted lips as she buried her hands within her pockets. Since she was on business, Annelise was dressed in her typical attire. Her trademark military hat and green mantis magic knight mantle. Accompanying the look were form-fitting black pants, with matching black combat boots. She wore a dark green, long-sleeved flak jacket that was also form-fitting, and of course, she had her grimoire belted to her person along with her sword. There was also a knife hidden along the inside of her magic knight's mantle. It wouldn't take much longer for her to arrive at the Golden Dawn headquarters. She could see the building from where she stood, it was grandiose in appearance, towering over its pedestrian counterparts. In truth, the Noble region was a beautiful place, but the structures amidst the Golden Dawn headquarters simply paled in comparison.

"Can't you feel it? They all laughing at you, their stares lay naked your secrets and they see you for what you truly are Annelise. A small person playing up their weakness with bravado. I can feel it, like phantom fingers gliding across your back." A deep, long, contemptuous laugh would follow as Annelise brow furrowed in response. There it was again, like a lingering disease, festering in the furthest corners of Annelise's mind. The Devil would spit onto the ground, stopping for a moment as she would slide out of view and into the dimly lit alley nearby. "What are you gonna do about it? Weak little girl, can't you see them pointing at you with tears in their eyes as they snicker and laugh. They can see right through your guise and see the poor orphan you are!" "I demand silence, your incessant provocation is useless. Those pitiful sheep wouldn't dare look me in the eye, lest they find themselves victim to my impeccable knife work." Annelise would brandish the extravagant knife from its resting spot, rolling it between her fingers expertly. The Devil felt ridiculous entertaining the voice in her mind. However, it was getting more difficult by the day to ignore, especially when she was alone. It would poke and poke at her like a bear trying to rob a honey bees nest.

The Shattering had left Annelise this nagging gift - a derisive voice that would taunt her for what she could only imagine being indefinite. Annelise couldn't fathom how such a thing became possible or perhaps it was a trick of her volatile mind finally snapping? This esoteric phenomenon left her with no options in seeking treatment from others. Instead, she was stuck with resolving this problematic issue on her own. Though Annelise could ignore it, not allowing it to be a distraction had become the true issue. Annelise would brandish the knife a final time in a dizzying display before placing it back within its home. "I have no time to waste on you... whoever you may be, tell me what is it that you seek from me?" Snapping, The Devil's voice cracked from anger. Silence pervaded amidst the backdrop of the bustling streets a few meters from the alley. It was a creepy silence that almost made Anne go mad. Was the voice really there she pondered for a brief moment. Unsure of her current reality, she pursed her lips once more to speak but would be interrupted by the mysterious voice. It was familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.
"How could you forget who I am, who we are?"
"We? No more riddles, are you a figment of my imagination or perhaps more? All you do is taunt and sneer at me, if you possessed a physical body I would torment you for fun until you lay broken.
"Perhaps, but could you truly do that to me? The only person you've ever loved?"
It was the first piece of information the strange voice had offered up to Annelise. Her brow would raise as she tried to decipher the hidden intent behind those few words. This was the first back and forth between herself and the mystery voice. She had chosen to ignore it until now, but with this small piece of information, The Devil's curiosity had been piqued.
