June stood there, with her sword in hand, daring any of the rabid beasts to come at her. They snarled and circled hungrily, wary of the barrier surrounding the woman. The petite Magic Knight growled right back and prowled the inner edge of her Protection Orb. She used her sword to slice one of the beasts that wandered too close, cutting deep into its shoulder and neck. It dropped like a stone, collapsing and twitching on the ground as it bled freely.
A few more launched themselves at the barrier, only to squeal before gurgling and thrashing violently as they began to drown. Incensed by this, one beast launched itself at June. She shoved The Bastard forward in a straight motion, piercing the mongrel in a motion that was as much stabbing as it was allowing the beast to fall onto her sword.
She planted one boot on its corpse and pulled to free her bastard sword from the cooling body. The crackling of Bengal's magic cloaking her let her know that the mongrels had tried to hex or curse her. Fortunately, Bengal's magic protected her from the attack.
Shortly after, explosions shook the forest and bright light nearly blinded the young woman. She had been facing away from the brilliant light, but it was still intense enough to make her eyes water and force the petite woman to squint. The Magic Knight turned toward the source of the commotion, toward the intense fight between Bengal and the most deadly opponent of the whole pack. She wasn't able to see what had happened, but the static that washed over her, lifting strands of her hair and making them stand on end, let her know that her fiancé had used something strong.
With June distracted a few more mongrels attempted to launch themselves at her back, only to slam into the Protection Orb and fall to the ground gagging and choking. The petite woman turned to look at the beasts, doing her best to perform a head count. At this rate, as long as Bengal's protection held up, she would be able to whittle away at their numbers a few at a time until there wasn't much left of the pack.
Then, the noblewoman tried to pinpoint Eve's location, but the tall commoner woman was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps she'd elected to ambush stray mongrels from the shadows. A fair tactic given her lack of weaponry. Even with Bengal's magic boosting her abilities, the commoner woman would only be able to take out a few of these enemies at a time.
June refocused on the issue at hand, readying The Bastard to lay into another beast if it came within reach. There was little opportunity to throw herself to the wolves so to speak, especially not now that Bengal was probably on his way towards their location. Despite not knowing the true outcome of that clash, June was confident her lover had come out on top. What sort of monster would be able to survive that kind of explosion?

Bengal panted briefly as he stood in the center of the massive crater. A large chunk of the forest was erased, and with it came the powerful demonic presence. His head slowly lifted, squinting up at the sky as the blood and sweat dripped from his body. Desperately reaching out with his ki, and finding... nothing. Surely that wasn't it? The Arch-Daemon had shifted the entirety of reality. It had turned the entire country on its head. Killed several mages that could rival the Wizard King.
Surely it wasn't over with just that. He hadn't held back, certainly, but he hadn't been at his strongest either. Slowly looking down at his shaking hands, Bengal blinked once slowly. There was nothing. No counter attack, no mana burst, no life signature. He was simply erased in an instant. The massive glowing lion of a man released a slow breath, allowing his spells to mend the damage his own technique had caused. Healing the internal damage as the massive glowing lion-shaped auras around his fists began to fade. Closing his eyes before releasing a careful breath from between his lips.
That was it?
This hadn't been an Arch Daemon. He'd known that. But still, a "simple" Daemon general shouldn't of been so weak. He'd never thought they would be this weak. That meant that him being missing had mattered. That meant he and June would have made a serious difference. He could have helped against the Arch-Daemons. He could have beaten any of the normal Daemon. His teeth slowly clenched. How many of those he cared about could he have saved?
Silas? Yuurei? Riley? His father, his family? There was no way to know. But some would have lived. Slowly the steam flowed from his body, the spells enhancing himself ending aside the spells he had used to enhance his love and Eve. Turning his head to look toward the area they were fighting before flickering forward. Numb.
He could have made a difference.
For now, he shoved the thoughts back. He wanted to at least ensure June and Eve were doing fine. Now that the general was dead, the other pawns would fall easily. No direct orders or control meant they were little more than tainted Mana Beasts. He'd intervene if needed. But he had a feeling the girls would do just fine without him. Further proof they would have made a difference.

Eve waited for her moment, taking a second to clean the tainted blood off her claws and watching the battle unfold. The little bastards couldn’t get through her barrier, which was definitely a good sign, and watched June work, cutting them down like so much grass. It was amazing to see her in action, a living river, killing and drowning the beasts with the same ruthlessness as Nature herself. But that was about when Eve noticed one of them tried to Hex her, and she sprang into action. Bengal’s protection was enough to stop anything ill, but that didn’t mean the creature wouldn’t pay for the audacity of trying with its life.
A blur, Eve shot through the open space from her hiding spot, using a single strong arm and hand to grab the imp by its skull and literally carry it with her until she met a tree, shoving the creature forward and smashing it onto the wood, sending bark flying from the impact. It twitched slightly as it slumped to the ground, and she quickly dashed away, slinking back into the brush. She wasn’t able to hold off multiple opponents like June could with her spells, but she was more than capable of picking them off, and she would continue to do so until they were all dead. Once Eve was certain that they didn’t know where she was again, she moved to where she could see the battlefield clearly and waited for another opportunity to strike.
In the distance, she saw Satori walking away from the area where the forest had exploded a couple of times. It was good to know that he was safe, but she expected no less from the monolith of a man. This was someone who could solo-clear dungeons if the rumors were true, without beaking a sweat. Turning her attention back to the fight before her, she waited for another chance to strike, taking a moment to appreciate June’s form, not only with fighting, but physically. Why not. No one could tell right now, as hidden as she was. She could appreciate a beautiful woman when she saw one.
Weird how she felt that way though. Not something to really focus on at the moment until this was all said and done, then she could unpack what she was feeling, analyze it, and hopefully bring it to a conclusion. Still weird though.

June dispatched the two unfortunate mongrels laying in the snow, gagging as her Protection Orb sought to drown them. A single stabbing motion was enough to go through both beasts, killing them in an instant. It was a kindness to put them out of their misery so quickly instead of leaving the beasts to drown.
The small woman reached through the shield to grab another mongrel by the throat.
A group of them lunged, seeing an opportunity to get at June's exposed limb. The Magic Knight pulled her victim into the bubble and crushed its throat with her magically enhanced grip strength, leaving the trio of mongrels to slam into the shield and let out yelps and squeals as the water the Protection Orb was made of forced its way into their noses, eyes, and ears.
June watched dispassionately as these three started to drown. The warm blood of the one she'd killed with her bare hand barely registered as she dropped the corpse. The Silva looked down at her hand, clawed fingers dripping with dark liquid. Making a face of disgust, she shook her hand, allowing some of the water from Poseidon's Armor to fall off of her hand and replacing it with clean liquid.
The mix of blood and water in the snow froze quickly.
The lightning magic protecting her crackled again as the creatures tried to hex her through the Protection Orb.
June looked up, a distant expression on her face. This was taking far too long for her liking.
Another shield burst into existence next to the one the Magic Knight herself occupied. The appearance of another Protection Orb caused an upset in the creatures which had been circling her and growling, looking to sniff out a weakness.
The second defense creation spell split the remaining mongrels into two groups. A few tried to run through the large sphere of water to regroup with the few on the other side, only to begin drowning themselves.
Quietly, June surveyed the scene around her. Six of the remaining mongrels were choking and struggling to cough up the water that had forced its way into their lungs while the seventh was unaccounted for. Several of them lay dead, either drowned or cut down like grass.
Where had the seventh beast disappeared to? Perhaps it was stalking Eve, whom June had yet to set eyes on through this entire bout. The only reason June knew the woman wasn't simply hiding and doing nothing or long gone was the rate at which these beasts had gone down. A few too many had disappeared a bit too quickly for the Silva to have done it all. This confirmed June's theory that the tall woman had decided to ambush the creatures while they were distracted by June's show display of magic.
"Eve, if you can hear me, make your way into one of these shields or where they'll see you. The faster they run into these Protection Orbs, the more quickly they'll kill themselves!" June called out into the forest, hoping Eve would hear.
The mongrels growled, three of them having recovered. Two seemed to be unconscious while another licked at the face of one of the still beasts, as if trying to rouse it.

Bengal landed with a burst of dirt and the scent of ozone on the air. His hands slowly clenched as he glanced over the area, the few dogs that were left were drowning and struggling. Injured, Eve picking them off bit by bit. Flickering forward Bengal re-appeared a few paces away, a dogs head in each of his hands, the rest crushed under his heels as he slowly straightened. Tossing the two heads to the side and releasing a slow, tired sigh.
"...The general is dead. That should slow, if not outright halt the corruption here." As Bengal stated this his gaze shifted toward Eve in her hiding spot, before then shiting his gaze toward June. She appeared just as tired as he did. This slaughter had given neither of the anything but bloody hands. His eyes closed as a slow sigh passed between his lips. Walking forward he waved Eve to come forward.
"That's all of them," he stated simply. "Thank you, Eve. I know this wasn't the original idea. But I think it'll be good for you." With this he would shift his gaze toward the drowned and crackling bodies from his residual mana. With a final frown, he turned and channeled his mana through his legs and wings. Causing them to burst from his back fully once more as his lips turned downward in distaste at the slaughter. He felt nothing from this revenge.
Only emptiness knowing he had vastly overestimated these daemon's strength. Closing his eyes he heaves a slow breath before straightening as his wings flexed once firmly.
"I'll get in contact with Ardere for the next leyine that's being corrupted. In the meantime, I'll work on the Dungeons and other jobs with you both. It shouldn't take us too long if we're working as a trio. Besides..." His jaw clenched slightly, gaze shifting down briefly to June. "I want to make a difference against these fuckers now." His words were painful, but firm. They could have made a difference last time if they'd been here. Resisted the shattering even a bit. But they hadn't.
Now, they only had one chance to help repair the damage done. The more they killed, the more leylines purged and purified, the better off everything would be. They could only try. Turning his head his wings beat, rising into the air once more. Trusting June to take Eve on her water as he began a slow flight back to town. Matching his loves own speed.

Eve watched as more of the creatures were felled by June’s magic, in awe at the power she possessed with seemingly such a simple spell. They literally couldn’t touch her, and she was cutting them down like twigs. Once more, she was waiting for her moment, but she was alarmed when she reached through her protection to grab a mongrel to crush it’s throat and a bunch of them tried to literally leap at the opportunity. They weren’t successful at all, naturally, which made her smirk in her hiding spot.
Hearing June call her out registered an instantaneous response, the dark-skinned woman bursting from a set of hedges, moving in a blur and catching one mongrel that was licking it’s companion across the stomach with her razor-sharp claws, causing its insides to literally spill out on top of its comrade as it quickly registered it’s final few living moments. Eve was within the second protection orb almost instantly, and without a moment of hesitation, showing June just how much she trusted the woman. She wasn’t sure why, but her instincts said that the silvery-haired woman was someone she could trust with her life, so for the first time, Eve was out in the open, acting as bait.
Her arms were covered in blood, but aside from that, she was unharmed and clean, not a scratch on her. The few she would have gotten from the shrubbery at least had been deflected easily from the spells, and the one knick she had received from a thorn she grabbed had healed very quickly, leaving her skin unmarred. Then suddenly Satori arrived, and with a blur of motion, killed the remaining creatures; Eve quickly glanced around with her golden eyes to verify that they were all indeed dead, and then stood up completely and relaxed a bit.
The danger was over.
“No… thank you. Thank you both. I have been living in a bubble my entire life, the problems I heard about being elsewhere. This was entirely too close to home… and if you hadn’t been here, I am certain that my Father and I would have died when they came across Zendikar. We aren’t safe there. I need to get him somewhere safe… and I need to get a whole lot stronger. If you will have me, I would like to join you once I figure out a way for my father to be moved somewhere he can survive.” Her words were heartfelt and powerful, despite her not speaking overly loud at all.
She could hear the pain in his voice, knew that he was troubled, and wanted to help. She owed him that much. She watched him go, and then walked over to June, wanting to get something off her chest. “I know I’m not someone you know all that well… but I’m also someone who cares. If you ever need someone to talk to, I always have an open ear.” Her eyes were locked onto the small woman, waiting for some kind of confirmation that she had heard them and understood that she was very serious. Eve had been through the pain of losing family, and she had been, essentially, alone, which had made it all that much worse. She wanted to make sure that June understood that she wasn’t alone. Simply knowing that someone was willing to listen should help, or so she hoped.

Before her plan to bait the rest of the creatures into killing themselves could take effect, Bengal returned and finished the fight for them. Slightly annoyed that he hadn't let her finish them off, she sighed and allowed the defense creation spells she had been maintaining to collapse. Water splashed everywhere, mixing with the blood and bits of gore from the fight before it began to freeze over, forming a pink sort of ice.
Ever the spoiled noble, June made sure to maintain Poseidon's Armor until the Protection Orbs were done splashing and freezing before allowing those, too, to fall away. The timing of her release of the spells left her clothing clean. With a bit of brushing and arrangement, the short Silva smoothed her dress. She looked as though she hadn't been fighting at all due to the lack of stains or tears in her clothing.
Next was her sword. June focused for a moment, conjuring water and using it to wipe away the grime on the bastard sword before dropping that to freeze in yet another reddish puddle on the ground. She sheathed The Bastard and checked her boots to make sure nothing had gotten on them. Magic Knight or no, June was still a prissy woman and disliked getting dirty or messy.
The Silver Eagle said nothing in response to Bengal's words. She had nothing to say to the man after what he'd said to her the night before. Instead of replying or acknowledging that something was off, the noblewoman merely massaged her temple for a moment and watched him take to the sky with wings of lightning.
Killing things hadn't made her feel any better, just numb. Even the concern that she felt for her love was dulled. Judging by the blood on his clothes, he'd been hurt. June knew he was likely already healed. That wasn't the worrying part. The fact that he'd been so injured at all was unusual.
June shrugged it off. His fault for being weak, she thought spitefully.
Eve's voice interrupted the Silva's quickly darkening thoughts, earning the commoner a look of annoyance.
"Do not presume that you are but a stranger to me," she replied, eyes narrowing. "If you want a ride home, you should keep such comments to yourself."
With that, the irritable noblewoman summoned River Step. The ice beneath their feet melted rapidly, forming a bloody river around June's feet.
Giving Eve an impatient look, she asked, "Well? Are you going to make me wait?"

Eve narrowed her eyes. She had known that the woman was going through something terrible, something that she herself was familiar with and greatly disliked the idea of anyone going through it… and caught herself in that train of thought. When Lillianna had first past, her mother, she had been bitter and angry with everything, ignoring her father’s kindness and treating him like a pest. Seeing how that felt but from the other person’s perspective left her stunned for a moment, and it took a second for her to collect herself and prepare for the journey ahead, in which time June snapped at her yet again, already having collected up the water necessary for their skyboat. The fact that some of it consisted of the enemies blood didn’t bother Eve all that much; the last time they had traveled this way, none of the water had clung to her skin despite what it looked like.
For a moment, she ran through her options as she stepped inside, knowing she was likely about to rocket forward after Bengal, who had already taken off and was in a mood of his own. He had lost folks too, so that much, made sense… but he had been so passive about it before. Something with his fight with the big-bad must have shaken him a bit, that much was certain, and she would inquire about that later if they continued to work together. For now though, her mind blitzed through options of what she could say to Eve. She tried to think back to when she was still grieving for her mother, and thinking about what might have made a difference. Then something her father told her, that she didn’t appreciate when he said it, but definitely did later on came to mind.
“That offer of an open ear is open. Feel free to use it anytime. Trust me, it helps.” She wasn’t going to dig any further than that, but she remembered when she got low during her own pain-filled months, and how she eventually had taken her father up on his offer to talk. Not because she wanted to, but because she needed to. June would reach that point, and for some reason, based on the reactions with Bengal, she didn’t feel like she could go to him. Maybe June needed someone else, and Eve could fill that role for her when the time came.
Maybe not.
But simply having that offer on the table was reassuring to Eve back then; she knew she had someone in her corner. Eve could do that much for June. Quietly, she rode along. Patience was important.

As soon as Eve set foot on the bloody spell, it began racing back in the direction of the commoner's home town under June's command. She turned so that her back was facing the taller woman, deciding not to bother with a reply. There was no point in arguing with someone beneath her even if there were several rather biting replies that came to mind. Bengal would only get angry and become even more frustrating if she was too harsh with Eve.
Lips pressed together into a harsh line, June tried to focus on guiding River Step towards their destination. The sooner she dropped Eve off, the sooner she could have some time to herself. Time to... the noblewoman wasn't certain what she would do once she was alone as she wished to be. Perhaps she could find a city where she wasn't well known to spend a bit of time. She hadn't gone book shopping in a long time.
It took perhaps a couple of hours to return Eve to her hometown, something that came with a sense of relief. After a curt goodbye, June was already racing away on her magical river, alone and free. The icy demeanor she'd used to contain the mix of numbness and painful emptiness began to crumble as the Magic Knight travelled in an arbitrary direction. Only once she was out of sight and well outside of Bengal's ki range did the short woman allow a few tears to escape.
